Thought I'd take the liberty of starting a new thread since the last one filled. So mark your places, get comfy and prepare for a few sleepless nights!

In particular we think of Empress and little Sam - hoping and praying he's coming home! :)

Welcome bracken! If you look at the start of this thread we have links inc to our Facebook group xx

Trishstar · 06/06/2013 13:09

Hubby has come back from work and already vomited again! Sent him to bed and me and Hunter are in the lounge (bought all his nappy changing things in here plus spare clothes

Really hope H doesn't get it x

LikeCandy · 06/06/2013 14:35

Welcome bracken I also have crazy letdown (once when I was feeding BabyCandy in a cafe I sprayed the arm of a guy at the next table, he didnt notice...) and leak like a tap, I'm using little lamb reusable breast pads and they're great!

trish glad you're feeling better, I'd think that H would have already got/had it if he was going to? I think most infectious tummy bugs have quite short 12/48hrs incubation period. May be worth phoning your HV to find out what to do if he does get it, in case it happens over the weekend?

sneezy sorry but your DDs reason for being upset made me giggle, I hope you're still managing to make the most of today despite the exhaustion!

ratbagcatbag · 06/06/2013 14:49

Argh, boos definitely got my cold, upset all night aschoking and gurgling. :( got some saline spray and children's olbas even though she's a week too young. Had around two hours sleep so feel awful, I was getting used to my three hours uninterrupted. I suppose on the bright side, it's not reflux, that's under co trol, it's a perfectly normal if not exhausting cold.

Sneezy, that's so cute, I often want to dream about certain celebs, but no matter how much I tell myself this before I shut my eyes,it never works Grin

usernamegoeshere · 06/06/2013 15:06

Finally got baby user to take nap but OH still refusing, is anyone else finding they turned into a complete control freak?

trish glad you feel better and am sorry for those with colds!

Welcome brack

I'm dreading immunisations but I believe only a minority of babies have very bad reactions so keeping my fingers crossed we don't. Is there any research/suggested benefit to distracting & being super playful during the jab to how they feel after? Or is cuddling & super sympathetic fine?

HadALittleFaithBaby · 06/06/2013 16:31

Trish hopefully H won't get it. Am I right in thinking you still give him some breast milk? If so that will help with his immunity.

The nurse at the hospital got me to feed Faithlet when she had her heel prick because suckling is a natural painkiller. Reckon I'll do that again if its ok with the nurse - she has here booked for Tuesday.

Becs yes he still has ebm and goes to boob too xx

Teapig · 06/06/2013 19:34

Crikey I'm behind. I keep reading but somehow never get time to post and then can't remember who said what.

Welcome brack.

trish and ratbag I hope you're feeling better and your little ones don't pick up the colds.

mamma I hope your birth debrief goes well.

Good news here - Teapiglet's rash has virtually gone. I'm thrilled she has her lovely complexion back after two weeks of such a severe rash.

I'm aiming to get Teapiglet down at 8pm tonight though I expect she'll have other ideas.

Jo1984uk · 06/06/2013 19:44

Welcome bracken, how did it go today at the clinic? Sofia also had her hips scanned, all was fine thankfully. She didn't mind it too much either.

Likecandy I was looking at those little lamb breast pads the other day, was thinking they might leak but I take it they are pretty good? Do they stay in place well? Hehe that's hilarious, I have been worried about that happening.. Especially when feeding somewhere crowded!

I spoke to the useless Gp today about her reaction. She suggested that she didn't want to be touched ''as she probably thought I was going to jab her'.. Really?!? Hmm.. Not because she had aches and pains then, I do worry sometimes!

Jo1984uk · 06/06/2013 19:52

Teapig I'm aiming for 8.30 Smile thing is she hasn't really slept this afternoon and I have been trying to get her off to sleep since 3.30 and she finally fell asleep at 7. Think bed time will end up being a bit late tonight!!

brackengirl · 06/06/2013 20:25

Clinic went ok thanks, E's hips are fine although waiting in a hot room for an hour with about 20 other restless babies, all who have to be stripped and manipulated wasn't that pleasant.

She's now screaming though and has just thrown up impressively over DH after we tried to give her gripewater; and I can hear DD1 singing "Happy birthday to you" upstairs as well when she should be asleep so don't think we'll be relaxing any time soon...

LikeCandy · 06/06/2013 20:45

Jo there's nothing to hold them in place, but as long as your bra isn't baggy they stay pretty well put. They do fold up a bit when I'm shuffling my bra around to get the cu

LikeCandy · 06/06/2013 20:47

...ps up and down, but they straighten out easily. They have never leaked through but I did manage to leak around them when I put a pair on back to front (there is a label to say which way round) the front is def the absorbent side!
I was using at least 6 lansinoh pads a day so it's going to be a saving too.
I paid £6 for 6 pairs I think.
Also use little lamb nappies :)

LikeCandy · 06/06/2013 20:50

Damn my fat fingers! Posting too soon!
Anyway Jo here's the half price link! £6 for 5 pairs
I'm going to order some more, free postage too!

Mama1980 · 06/06/2013 21:00

Trish, fingers crossed that h avoids it! X
Welcome bracken
Glad teapiglets rash has gone Smile
Thanks for all the good good thoughts. It is much appreciated. Thanks
Well the de brief was actually ok it was strange though to hear all these things I just don't remember. I found it easier to hear about my treatment than Alex's. I hate the thought that he was resuscitated again and again and I wasn't there with him Hmm
On a lighter note I got a serious fit of the giggles when they talked all seriously about how I went into dic after delivery and arrested 3 times- I kept just thinking of tv episodes of er when they always seem to bounce about when they shock people, not appropriate i know I think the dr was concerned I was going into hysteria the more I tired to explain the more confused he looked Blush luckily the midwife had a sense of humour.
I don't need to go back I need to go forward.
It all seems like a bit of a dream really, (non functioning legs aside Grin)

Dd bless her was worried all day. So We've had a huge takeaway pizza order for dinner, ds1 is asleep and Alex guzzling on the boob as usual so I'm gonna watch a movie with her and snuggle.

HaveIGotPoosForYou · 06/06/2013 21:27

Got the immunisations tomorrow eeekkk.

She seems nonplussed, except she seems really clingy to Mummy today, didn't fancy having a rest with Granny today which is not normally like her. It's like she knows or something :)

Someone recommended I give her Calpol about an hour before she gets her jabs, is this a good idea or not - have no clue with these kind of things!

Welcome, bracken Glad that all is OK with the hips!

usernamegoeshere · 06/06/2013 21:27

mama it's so scary to think what you both went through, amazing that you both had such positive outcomes.

Well first night with cot,it's right next to me and I'm pretty much kissing good bye any sleep for next 6 months. She is exhausted but refusing to do anything but cry in it.

HadALittleFaithBaby · 06/06/2013 22:01

Argh one step backwards tonight. Just taken 2 1/2 hours to settle her.

Mama I'm glad it's done. Like you say, time to put it to bed and move forward.

birdbrain21 · 06/06/2013 22:02

mama glad it went okay. I know what you mean about when they give people a shock on tv I can't imagine nhs personnel finding anything funny though most of them don't have a sense of humour!

bracken welcome glad your little girls hips are okay

baby bird has her injections on Tuesday, and my grandparents are coming to visit on weds as they've not seen her for ages but now you've made me nervous that she's going to be bad tempered Hmm any tips on how to make injections less traumatic?!

dysgu if it really is a noticable hole from the injections keep an eye on it, I have a 'hole' in my thigh from an injection when I was a baby that got infected...

LikeCandy · 06/06/2013 22:47

To everyone worrying about jabs can I reassure you that not all babies react in any way! If anything babycandy was more placid than usual for a cou

LikeCandy · 06/06/2013 22:50

Aurgh! My fat fingers again!

...ple of days. A little grumpy but nothing else.
I hope you all have the same experience :)

Trishstar · 07/06/2013 00:17

Mama you both remain an inspiration to us all!!

Hubby is banished to the sofa tonight just to be extra careful! Tho he hasn't vomited since just before 1pm, so hopefully he is on the mend. I still don't feel 100% myself but lots better!
Hunter remains ok so far. Weird being in bed on my own tho!

Fed H at 10.30pm and got surprise poop #2 of the day (he usually does one or none) and he was asleep by 11.30pm so let's see how long tonight (6.5 hours last night) as his last 2 bottles were 7oz

Have to say we are continuing to love Ewan the sheep, normally if H falls asleep on us and we transfer to crib he wakes up, but we just pop Ewan on, put dummy back in and rock the crib gently and he's back off in a matter of minutes (not always but 95% of the time).

Thanks for the feedback today on fb re: FF

Night all x

Teapig · 07/06/2013 01:25

jo I hope you were more successful with the 8.30pm bedtime than we were. DD went down around 8.30pm (in moses basket in dark end of sitting room) and woke at 9pm. She went down properly around 10pm and then woke at 12.45am so not the 4 hour stint I was hoping for. I think it may be time to invest in Ewan the dream sheep. It's funny because she had some good naps in the day so I was expecting a good night, ho hum.

mama it's amazing how far you and Alex have come. I'm glad the debrief went well and you saw the lighter side.

It's DDs 6 week check tomorrow with the GP followed by baby massage. I can sense that one or both will be the scene of a major meltdown.

AmberLav · 07/06/2013 01:30

HaveI - my nurse told me that giving calpol before is bad, but I can't entirely remember why! Think it reduced the effectiveness of the injection?

I don't recall DS having much of a reaction, other than the initial wail, so I didn't have to give him calpol after either.

Baby E had so many blood tests after she was born, and 2 lumbar punctures, and wailed so much then, that I know the injections will be a breeze, as I know the nurse is very kind, unlike the mean paeds team! But we have 2 weeks still to go to the first immunisation.

Cor blimey Mama, you went through a lot! But you are doing so well now, and I think it's healthy to not want to dwell on the more scary bits of what happened to you both. It does all seem a bit ER when you consider how well you are both doing now!

edinfirst · 07/06/2013 01:40

Hi all
Loving keeping up with developments (and cute photos!) here and on FB. Not posted for a while as things here have swung between nightmarish (too hectic to post) and fabulous (too busy basking in my own glory ;)). Yesterday was definitely on the nightmarish side, so just looking for some reassurance from those who are a few weeks ahead of me that 'this too shall pass'. The short version is that DS has been feeding every hour and a half during the day for about a week. I was ok with this as we have had some issues with milk supply and growth rate, and because I was getting a bit of respite during longer spells at night and the odd daytime nap (although not many). Yesterday, however, the wee man only slept for 7 hours out of 24! He did also have tiny catnaps after about half of the feeds (say another 3 hours in bursts of half an hour) but by last night was completely strung out and massively overtired. He is only five weeks so I wouldn't expect him to self settle yet, and up to now has mostly gone to sleep on my chest (trying to break the association of this being after a feed but at night it is) and after half an hour I've transferred him to his cot or pram, but yesterday as soon as I moved him he was wide awake (the way he was in the first week!) and wouldn't be soothed to sleep any other way. DH gave him a bottle/cuddle at 8 and he finally dropped off. He woke up screaming at 1 but is not that interested in feeding (still digesting formula (?) as he took loads and hasn't had it for about a week) so I am a wee bit anxious that the screaming was just because he couldn't get back to sleep without another cuddle. Please reassure me that I'm not creating a monster and that this is just another phase (he is five and a half weeks so could this be a six week growth spurt?)
