Thought I'd take the liberty of starting a new thread since the last one filled. So mark your places, get comfy and prepare for a few sleepless nights!

In particular we think of Empress and little Sam - hoping and praying he's coming home! :)

Jo, Lucy was terrible for three to four days after jabs, screaming, unsettled etc. I gave her calpol which made a massive difference.

Ring nhs direct if not happy, I figured I flt off after whooping cough etc, then a tiny baby will:(

wishfulthinking1 · 05/06/2013 20:28

Jo, definitely call nhs direct if you're worried- it's what the service is there for and I'm sure it'll put your mind at rest xxx

All fine here- busy couple of days seeing friends / baby groups. Peter has slept loads in the daytime since Sunday- only for 2 hour bursts- he just doesn't stay awake for long between them! But when he's awake he's alert and smiley- still not fussed on toys / books / play gym etc but by the time he's woken up, had a feed, had a stretch, nappy changed he'd yawning again!

Very jealous of all the sleep lots of you are having. Some of my NCT girls are getting 6 hours + a night- if I get 2 and a half hours ago I'm lucky! Ah well, guess all baby's are different! Ons day ill have more than 2 hours sleep in a row again!!! X

Jo1984uk · 05/06/2013 21:01

Thank u for all your replies, I managed to get her to feed by standing up with her and swaying side to side.. Have just spent the last 3 hours walking up and down hallway with her, now it'd dp's turn, it's so hard hearing her cry like that Sad

Dysgu · 05/06/2013 21:28

Glad you managed to get her to feed Jo - Evan had his second set of jabs today and has been a sad little thing ever since. I gave him Calpol this evening and he has finally settled in his basket.

I am always interested to read how other mums dislike their baby's having jabs. I don't recall ever being upset about any of mine having them - and I do tend to get upset if my kids are upset as they get older. I do wonder if it has anything to do with all the tests and needles my kids have had to have in their early days. I think the worst one was when they used to test DD1's eyes by clamping them open - I hated that but have never been a fan of eyes (and my girls practically live at the eye clinic).

Jo1984uk · 05/06/2013 21:37

Thank u Dysgu, aww bless him.. Glad he has settled in his basket for u. Those tests on your daughter sound awful, I suppose the jabs seem like nothing in comparison.

She is feeding again now and her eyes are starting to get heavy.. However she has just had her first poo of the day (usually in number 3 or 4 by now!) so I am going to have to change her which she will not be happy about!

Trishstar · 05/06/2013 21:37

Nicky I know what you mean! After watching all the things H had done in SCBU the injections weren't that bad! Xx

HadALittleFaithBaby · 05/06/2013 21:57

Ah Jo, poor little thing! Hope she settles soon.

We've had a mixed time settling Faithlet. She fell asleep after her bottle at 7.15. I think she would have stayed asleep but the damn reflux caused her to regurgitate and wake up! Then had ages feeding her and a couple of transfer fails because she was obviously still uncomfy. Been having trouble because she hates the gaviscon. Tried it in the bottle but it blocks the teat. Finally hit on adding a drop of gripe water to it and she took the lot, fed for 5 minutes and then settled! Definitely 2 steps forward, 1 back this parenting lark!

Not saying I 'enjoy' the DCs having jabs (and they are a bit harder as they get older as they know what is coming) and I would not want to be the nurse jabbing tiny babies...

Also hope you are feeling better now - it is so hard being ill when you have DCs and is good that your DH can/would take the day off to look after H.

Jo well done on getting her to sleep and it is just typical bad luck that now she needs changing. Evan will not let a dirty nappy stay on whereas I am sure DD2 would happily wallow in her own poo at the same age Hmm

And we had Evan weighed today 11lb 14oz - he is getting really chunky! He is on the 9th centile for other babies the same age as him (12 weeks tomorrow) and the 75th for other 6 week olds (which is what he should be).

He has his (repeat) 6 week check next Wednesday and should do much better!

Dysgu · 05/06/2013 22:01

Faith did you add the gripe water to the bottle? We have a real hard time settling Evan at night because of the reflux and wind - might have to try that (rather than the 30-45 minutes he needs to be kept upright before going back into his tilted basket).

HadALittleFaithBaby · 05/06/2013 22:10

Dsygu we add gripe water to the bottle without problems but she will happily take it from a syringe in the day. The gaviscon has to be made up with 15ml of cooled boiled water. She hates the taste and its a battle to get it down her. I mix it in an egg cup and tonight I added a tiny drop of gripe water to the made up gaviscon and she took the lot! Way forward I think. She only really needs the gaviscon in the evening, reflux doesn't seem to bother her in the day or overnight.

OP posts:
Dysgu · 05/06/2013 22:35

E is happy to take most things by syringe - even the smell of his vit drops make me heave but he is happy! The reflux doesn't bother us in the day - he just sicks it up and is then happy! It is the nights that are harder, perhaps because we want to sleep but are happy to hold him all day Smile

Jo1984uk · 05/06/2013 22:57

Dysgu it sounds like he is doing brilliantly Smile How much did he weigh when he was born?

Tweet, welcome Smile just read back a few pages.. Sounds like your little one is just like Sofia during the day, the only way she will sleep soundly is in your arms or in her close caboo carrier.

After Sofia had been changed I put her back on the boob which she accepted again. I then put her over my shoulder to wind her and she was massively sick everywhere Sad the first time she has been really sick. It must have helped get feel better though. She is settled in her basket but I'm so paranoid to go to sleep. I feel like its her first night home all over again, feel like I should be watching her all the time. Am so tired though!!

HaveIGotPoosForYou · 05/06/2013 23:31

Really worried about Hollie getting her jabs on Friday - I hope she is OK. I can't stand to hear her upset, Daddy is a calming influence and even Granny (My Mum) gets really upset! Horrible to see her like it, but I know they are going to possibly help her, so I am glad she is going to get them done. Atleast her Daddy isn't working Friday, so don't have to take her in alone just incase Mummy cries her eyes out, not baby for moral support.

Dysgu · 06/06/2013 00:02

Jo he was exactly 5lb when he was born at 34 weeks. He is on prescription milk aimed to help him gain weight which means he can cope with sicking it up and rarely finishing a bottle... He has done well today though and had 24oz - we are usually lucky to get 20oz inside him each day.

He is a compact little chunk and has just started wearing his 0-3 clothes.

Now that Sofia has been sick she will hopefully be feeling better. Evan sicks up throughout the night and his sleeping bag is soaked in the morning but none of it seems to bother him too much. I hope you have a settled night.

HaveI I am sure the nurses are used to mums crying when babies have their jabs. I hope it goes all right for you all.

BonaDea · 06/06/2013 03:21

Have I got poos- I know everyone likes to thrash and wail about how awful the immunisations are about how upset they were, but genuinely they were fine! DS upset for a moment, over v quickly and he was a teeny bit out of sorts for the day. Your LO will be just fine. Smile

Jo1984uk · 06/06/2013 07:11

Dysgu it sounds like he has done really well with his weight gain Smile Also meant to say thanks for what u said about Evan in the night- I was really scared about what might happen if she was sick in her sleep as she's not a sicky baby so it's something I have never had to deal with before.. Reading that made me feel so much better, it's amazing what their little bodies deal with. Hope he starts to keep more of it down bless him.

Have I, Bona is right- most babies are absolutely fine after the jabs, many of my friends have said their child either had no side effects or were just a bit upset throughout the day.

I'm going to have a chat with my Gp about her reaction to it.. Am pleased to say she is much better today.. Not 100% but hopefully with lots of cuddles she will be feeling better in no time. Another day of not putting her down Smile may have to get the caboo sling out...

Maracca jacks will have to wait til next week, was looking forward to a bit of singing lol

SneezySnatcher · 06/06/2013 08:53

Aargh! It's Sod's law that the night H sleeps beautifully is the night DD decides not to Sad

H slept from 7-12, very quick feed and then 12.10-6.

DD (3yo) on the other hand, slept from 7-12 and then was awake until 4. She was upset because she wanted to dream of Alex and Marty from Madagascar but not Melman or Gloria Hmm

We had to be up early as we're going to Durham to Adventure Valley (farm/adventure playground) so I'm shattered.

Hope everyone else had better nights!!!

Mama1980 · 06/06/2013 09:50

Jo glad baby is better :) but talking to the go sounds good I think x
Sorry for the me me post but I have my birth de brief at 1pm and am getting very nervous, not sure why....... The drs want to go over everything that happened I've put it off but they feel its important we talk it through now everything has calmed down. I also think. Need to know exactly what happened, I mean I want to but I don't iykwim.......

Mama1980 · 06/06/2013 09:50

Hope you're ok sneezy and have a good day despite being exhausted! X

Trishstar · 06/06/2013 10:01

Sneezy I know it wasn't good that your dd was awake but her reason made me smile'!

Bec hope the de brief is ok xx as much as it can be x

HadALittleFaithBaby · 06/06/2013 10:09

Mama I guess in some ways you just want to put it behind you but I guess after everything that's happened it might help. I bet they can use Alex as an example as well. Not many babies with odds like his come out the other side, let alone thrive like Alex has. Just focus on how far he's come :)

jo I'm glad she settled. I hope you can have a chilled day.

Sorry you had a rough night sneezy. I can't imagine having two!

Trish how are you feeling? I hope a bit better.

Not quite such a good night - after taking ages to settle she woke to feed at 2 and it took me over an hour to feed and settle her, only for her to wake again at 5. Then from 6 we had lots of groaning - giant poo! Course then she wouldn't settle. Ah well the cleaner is coming for the first time today, can't wait to have a really clean house again! :)

Feeling better not 100% yet but hubby has got it now Hmm how likely is it that H will get it? And when? As I was feeling ill on Tuesday and was looking after him, would it have showed by now?

Dysgu · 06/06/2013 10:28

Jo hope you had a settled-ish night and that Sofia keeps improving. Evan seems to have got over his jabs from yesterday but does have a noticeable 'hole' in one of his legs.

Mama I hope your debrief goes well and is not too stressful for you having to go over everything again. I can see why it could be useful for you, especially to get any answers to any questions you might have, but I would worry about knowing all the details. Hopefully you and Alex are far enough removed from the birth now that today will be really positive for you.

Sneezy hope you have a smooth day. I can empathise with you - we so often have to resettle one of the DDs in the night, often caused by Evan waking them but we also have our fair share of odd reasons. I did smile at your DD's reason for being awake Smile

Evan is sleeping on me right now but we will be going for a drive to the other side of the island to pick up a bag of clothes I have bought off a local site ready for when he moves up to 3-6 size. The way he is going, I don't think it will be too long...

Jo1984uk · 06/06/2013 11:36

Sneezy H did very well with his sleep Smile I also had to laugh at what your dd said about the reason why she did not want to sleep!! Adventure Valley sounds fun, can't wait to take Sofia places like that Smile

Mama thank u Smile I was so scared as her screaming was so intense Sad Good luck with today.

Hadalittle lets hope for a better night tonight Smile Sofia also likes to wake up super early straining!

Trish glad ur feeling better, fingers crossed H won't catch it now

Dysgu we had quite a good night, she went down at about 11pm and woke at 2 for a feed, then back to sleep til 6. Not her usual pattern at all, I was awake at the times she usually feeds. I did keep accidently waking her during the night as I kept putting my hand on her chest to make sure she was ok. I'm glad Evan is ok after his jabs, I have read the second ones do not have such a strong effect on them. She is still super sleepy today though..

Sat here on the bed with her while I attempt to make her Daddy a fathers day card on funky pigeon Smile

brackengirl · 06/06/2013 12:12

Hi, hope it will be ok for me to join you, my DD2 was born on 22nd April by ELCS. She's doing well and is able to settle herself at night which is amazing as DD1 (2.5) took ages to learn that and was a pro at being put down sound asleep and pinging her eyes open straight away!

I'm BF and it's going well although I have a supersensitive let down- it hurts when it happens and I can hit the bedroom wall with spray! I also have let downs when I hold any child, think about feeding or if DDs do anything cute, I think I'll be wearing breast pads forever! DD2 struggles with it so have to lean back and take her off when it's at its worse.

We are off to be checked at the clicky hips clinic today, I had them as a baby so it's precautionary. Not looking forward to it as last time with DD1 it was heaving and DD2 hates being undressed at the best of times.

Have been reading the thread and you all seem really supportive, I'm looking forward to hearing everyone's news as our gorgeous babies grow!
