Roll up, roll up, it's the Dec 11 new thread.
Prepare to be upgraded (if you can catch them!)

When Christopher Lloyd reveals himself to be a toon, with his mad, crazy eyes...scariest moment of my childhood right there (other than the start of Ghostbusters, with the one in the library).

Hurrah for a better yesterday Northen!

Hop no experience on the mirena but my youngest sister was a coil failure. My other sister is on the implant (aahhh!! my sister is old enough to be having sex) & thinks it's amazing (she reacts badly to the pill).
We're currently discussing contraceptive options for after this baby, vasectomies have cropped up Sad

Glad counselling went well Oi, even if you don't stay together, it's much better for BOi.

What's everyone upto this weekend?
DH is having DS tomorrow & I'm having a day/night away from them. Maybe the last before this one arrives

mopsytop · 19/07/2013 10:49

I'm graduating!

Minimopsy vommed this morning though. Will be gutted if she and Mr. Mopsy can't come. But only one vomit and no repeats so far... fingers crossed!

OiMissus · 19/07/2013 11:06

Congratulations Mopsy!! Grin

OiMissus · 19/07/2013 11:07

I'm with you there with the heat hop.
It's incredibly frustrating!

Aethelfleda · 19/07/2013 12:59

Yay mopsy for graduation!

hop, Mirena are the coils with a teeny amount of progesterone in them (a tiny fraction of what's in the implant). They work much much more reliably than the standard coil as most ladies stop ovulating
(so only a few periods a year) and they are waaay lighter (which is why I like mine!) the only downer is that you can spot lightly for up to 6 months on and off when they are first in. Your GP can give you a leaflet or google the Family Planning Association website to view it online.

SevenReasonsToSmile · 19/07/2013 16:38

Congratulations mopsy! I take it you'll be enjoying a rather large Wine tonight then?!

oi that's really shitty of DH to accuse you of having an affair.

queen the cake making sounds exciting! Is it just as a hobby or are you hoping to take it further? I've recently decided I want to start making fancy cakes as a business, obviously not for a good few months yet though as I have zero free time at the moment! I'd have to decorate them mostly in the evenings but I reckon I could make it work working from home whilst home-educating.

Hope everyone is coping ok with the heat. DD2 hates it and has been pretty miserable. Things have been pretty tough but there has been a bit of an improvement in her feeds the last couple of days, fingers crossed it lasts. I don't need to worry too much about contraception as my sex drive is down to almost zero. DH will have a vasectomy at some point, if I could guarantee a healthy easy boy I'd have another baby, but no way would I risk having another as difficult as DD2 has been the last few weeks, I honestly don't think our marriage would survive it.

QueenofClean · 19/07/2013 17:41

Hop - Between my girls I had a copper coil. I can't have hormone type contraception screws me right up. It worked well for me.

Seven...is a hobby now but would like it to turn into a little business from home. my thank you cakes went down a treat at school today and people couldn't believe that i`d done them as they looked fancy shop brought Grin

janey223 · 20/07/2013 13:48

Hop I have the implant and I hate it! I've put on a mountain of weight which won't shift and get an average of 2 periods a month. I've had it nearly a year now, and want it out but always end up too busy when I manage to find a daytime babysitter urg!

Best part is I never have sex! Send your supplier over and see if I still work though?

I've been busy finishing project spare room, it looks great! Wish I could share photos from my phone :( the transformation is amazing and it came in at £135!

Now onto the rest of the house! Trip to homebase this weekend for my laminate, I was considering Lino as you get lovely ones and they are textured but laminate wears better and landlord has agreed to get someone in to fit it GrinThey have the one I love but couldn't afford on sale and its a 15% off event so I'm excited! Must order my curtains, they're £50 from tesco but £30 on eBay so I'm going to get them from tesco to check I like them then order from eBay Wink! Then just to find someone who'll put up my gorgeous chandelier I acquired on freecycle and put my old one into the spare room, vinyl my horid colour wood bed white and buy new bedding and mattress phew. Then onto the bathroom, arg.

QueenofClean · 20/07/2013 18:11

It's been one of those poxy days today :(

DH is on a stag day...paintballing & curry. Darcie has been excellent apart from the odd repeating herself. Sky on the other hand has done me in today and I know longer have any patience with her today :( just want to scream.

Am just trying to get her to sleep, as she's not napped today and she's hot & teething. Once she's down I can eat my dinner and then finish decorating my cakes and breathe!

SevenReasonsToSmile · 20/07/2013 20:35

queen Eva was the same the other day, missed her nap and just screamed horribly at the slightest thing that didn't go her way. Glad Darcie has been good, how has she been lately since the diagnosis, is it easier now you know she's not just being a stroppy madam playing up? I bought a book last week 'start a cake business from home', seems good what I've read so far. I'll see who it's written by if you're interested when I don't have a baby on my lap.

janey glad to hear about the spare room success and other general home improvements. There's a December '11 Facebook group, you could put pics on there if you want to show off your fancy new spare room

Talking of which I should probably post a couple of new kitchen related pics as most of the work is now done. Floor tiles will be finished this week, then grouting, painting, kick boards and odd jobs left. I ordered curtains yesterday, we had to buy made to measure as its a huge but not massively tall window above the sink, cost me £94! Shock

I had more formula related problems today. I went to pick up DD2s Nutramigen from the chemist and it turned out the useless surgery had done the prescription for LF formula for DD1 instead Hmm. I had to call the ooh doctor for an emergency prescription, then go 8 miles to collect prescription, then another 6 miles to a chemist that actually had a tin in stock. Also there's a festival on locally this weekend, some nutter long-haired hippy type walked straight into my parents house, said sorry when confronted and left again.

QueenofClean · 20/07/2013 21:12

Seven that would be good if you can let me know about that book.

Darcie behaviour been brilliant for last 8 weeks. Her relationship with DH is much better as he has finally listened to me a better understanding of ASD.

The girls are in bed so peaceful house now.

QueenofClean · 20/07/2013 21:13

Seven which Nutramigen is Eva on? Sky on Nutramigen AA

mopsytop · 20/07/2013 21:37

I am a doctor! woohoo.

Hope you're all having a great weekend. Unfortunately Minimopsy got a bug which Mr. Mopsy caught. Luckily though she was OK to come today and he only started vomiting a couple of hours after lunch! So we had a lovely time until then
Feel so bad for him. Rotten bug ... he has a temp too and feels awful. He seems to have got a worse dose than minim. I bloody hope I don't get it too.

SevenReasonsToSmile · 20/07/2013 22:57

Congrats DrMopsy! Hope they're both better soon.

queen the book is by Alison McNicol. It's Beatrice on Nutramigen 1, what's the difference? We're still in a 2 week trial, seems to be helping but it's still a long way from perfect.

Has anyone seen the bra fitting thread? I've learnt that you're meant to do the cup measurement leaning forwards not just standing upright. It makes mine 2" bigger, from 38D to 38E apparently, now i want to go bra shopping!

And has anyone else tried the new pimms? It's blackberry and elderflower, and is really rather nice.

QueenofClean · 21/07/2013 07:06

Congrats Dr Mopsy. Hope you don't catch the bug.

Seven Nutramigen AA has the CMP broken right down till there is basically nothing left but the amino acids.

CheungFun · 21/07/2013 08:02

Hello everyone :)

Flowers DrMopsy well done! Hoping you manage to evade to bug!

I'm glad things are improving Seven, sounds like it's been really hard going.

Well done on the decorating front Janey always feels so good to see a room done how you want it to be :)

I've booked my driving test... Eek! It's at the end of August! DH took me out driving in his car for the first time yesterday, he was brilliant, very very calm and patient. His car feels so different to drive compared to my instructors car, despite being the same make and model, so I stalled a lot! Hopefully next time will be better! I really think driving with DH will help my confidence a lot though, he's much calmer than my instructor!

I think DS is teething again, it's been taking up to 1.5 hours to settle him down to sleep at night for the last few nights. We gave him some calpol last night and that seemed to help.

DS is finally calling me 'Mama' Grin and I'm 99% sure he has said his first word 'car'! Despite not having many words spoken yet, he definitely understands a lot and there is a lot of pointing going on. He has been getting very excited about planes and helicopters, we've been getting a lot flying quite low near us lately.

mopsytop · 21/07/2013 08:48

I've the bug too. And minim vommed all over me early this morning. Not a cheerful family :(

NorthernChinchilla · 21/07/2013 10:56

Hurrah for DrMopsy but booooooo to all the bugs that are visited upon her and her family!

Just waiting for people - first time buyers - who viewed the house yesterday and are coming back for a second viewing. I'm showing them round

Aethelfleda · 21/07/2013 14:43

Good luck northern, give us feedback and hope they make a good offer!

Good luck with the driving test cheung!

It's getting hot again..., i'm in the middle of building a willow screen (mounting pre-bought panels) so that the manky fence on the side of our patio can be transformed into a bee-yoo-tiful sitting area with climbing trellis flowers. Optimist, me....,,

OP posts:
CheungFun · 21/07/2013 18:46

Oh good luck Northern! We have had 17 viewings now and 1 measly offer :( Got 2 more viewings in the pipeline so fingers crossed for us both!

Thanks Aethel! I'd try Clematis for growing up the trellis,, ours has been going strong 2 years now and it's pretty hardy but has the most beautiful flowers! They like lots of sun.

mopsytop · 21/07/2013 19:09

Hope viewing goes well Northern !

Well we all appear to have stooped vomiting. Must be 24 hour bug. We still feel rotten though. Fingers crossed we will feel better tomorrow!

NorthernChinchilla · 21/07/2013 19:38

We've had lots of viewings now, including two Thursday, three or four Saturday, this second viewing and another one coming tomorrow. DP is grumpy about having to keep the house so tidy!

Viewing was horrible actually. First-time buyer is actually a girl who looked about 18 (maybe up to 20/21) who came round with her parents- who are blatantly buying it for their princess her- and partner. Dad was unsmiling, arms folded the entire time- only time he spoke to me was to ask if we had an indemnity for the loft. They went round knocking on the walls for Chrissake.

They then drove off in about £70k of pimped-out top-of-the-range black shiny Range Rover....
Loft conversion is not advertised as a bedroom, and so we're not going to bargain on price over that- I have a feeling they'll put in a silly offer and/or try to knock us down.
Ugh.

So sympathies to you too Cheung, it's miserable this isn't it?

Hope you feel better soon mopsy, how grim for it to strike you down when you're Doctor-ing Sad

Making soup for dinner and then bed, the combined stress of work and housey stuff making me feel ill.

CheungFun · 21/07/2013 19:58

Hope it is a 24 hour thing Mopsy, it's too hot to be ill!

Northern yes completely agree! It's horrible being in limbo and not knowing what's going to happen!

I've just had a nose on Zoopla and there are only 3 other 2 bedroom flats for sale in our area and in our price range give or take £5k. There are another 2 flats for sale but these are another £50k higher and would be a different type of buyer. Last time I looked we were in competition with another 8! And we have our own private garden too...honestly I may have rose tinted glasses, but I love our flat!

Aethelfleda · 21/07/2013 20:09

northern, you don't have to personally like the buyers, but if they make you a rubbish offer, just stick to your guns, say sweetly "you'll have to do better than that" and if they don't go up then just say no. People with the money for pimped up range rovers often get that way because they are constantly cut-throat and far meaner than someone with less money IYSWIM. It's more stressful if you accept a low offer and then they try to stiff you by lowering their offer even more after the survey. Hope the stress improves, hopefully with a surprise offer (our end buyer made a surprise second viewing five weeks after they viewed after another house they had their eye on went. We went with their offer 5k below our desired floor price as they had a full chain and were ready to proceed. Still wonder if we'd have got more by holding off, but it meant we could move on, and got us our present house.) once it's over with you won't want to don't have to do it again for ages!!!

OP posts:
NorthernChinchilla · 21/07/2013 22:14

Oh indeed aethel, it's a case of "you see that number, that range between £x 000 and £y 000 that we're selling for? THAT'S what we're selling for. Yes, I know you're a first time buyer, but most importantly I'm not a mug and I've dealt with far tougher people that you."
My problem is I look like a three year old hippy- people invariably goggle when I tell them my job, as I really don't look the part- and so still don't get taken seriously.

Grin
