Roll up, roll up, it's the Dec 11 new thread.
Prepare to be upgraded (if you can catch them!)

I think I've told you before that we do football training every Sunday. "Diddikicks" We really enjoy it. Every week the toddlers get a bit better at following the instructions, recognising colours and scoring goals. Smile
We've got friends coming over for a BBQ in about an hour. So the sun has just "done one", and it's starting to rain...

Figgygal · 04/08/2013 17:51

I'd like to take DS to footie training but there's no local classes at a time that suits do going to keep up swimming lessons on a Friday for now Ali's footie strip is adorable

SevenReasonsToSmile · 04/08/2013 20:34

peril little football training sounds so cute!

figgy how dare you post on my tread and not wave at me :o. Plus I am so NBU, Peter what's his name is too old and dull, David Tennant was a seriously hot who.

SevenReasonsToSmile · 04/08/2013 20:39

thread

Meant to say I think I'm finally getting on top of the clutter. I had an epiphany when DD2 arrived that now I have three children I should act like a grown up and have a tidy house. The dining table is now free of junk, it wasn't so bad we couldn't eat at it but it constantly had a line of stuff running along the middle of it. I also have three boxes of books for the local lifeboat book sale this week, plus loads of CDs to charity shop, I realised we still had all the CDs but no CD player as I just use my iPhone and DH has an iPod with a huge memory for everything else.

Figgygal · 04/08/2013 20:57

Seven I hadn't noticed it was your thread Grin but yes u are wrong capaldi is amazing!!

Aethelfleda · 04/08/2013 21:16

Well done, seven! we had a de-cluttering weekend too, making a good dent in the girls' bedroom pits.....

DD1 is busy having a tantrum cos she wants to keep reading way past her bedtime. Pushy parent, me (not).....

Sorry, I'm with figgy here seven, PC is amaaaaaaaaaaaazing. I loved him in the Crow Road years ago, and will be on tenterhooks to see what he's like as the Doctor. But there tends to be a glorious six week period when there's both Match of the Day and Doctor Who on a Saturday, and I'm counting it down...

I'm currently clutching a gin after a 7 hour trip back from up N; I'd gone up after work on Friday, whilst we're in the middle of an office move AND two colleagues were leaving...and now this journey back. Plus my commute increases by 50% from tomorrow- partially the reason for the move- so not great Sad

I love the sound of Diddikicks peril, we'll really have to get DS going on some of these things when we move. Mind you, given his build and throwing ability, I think DS will be more suited to rugby or cricket!

How's it going Gary, are you and DS2 OK? Hope to see some picks- PM me a link or something!

Aethelfleda · 05/08/2013 08:38

Took the DDs to Despicable Me2 yesterday. It was v funny: they are now running around house quoting "banana" and "bottom:hee hee hee" and giggling a lot.! Our 20 month olds are too young for this, but give it a year!

hinkyhonk · 05/08/2013 11:37

hello all - am surfacing from masses of boxes but just had another query about speaking. DS2 is not speaking at all - no mummy, daddy or any other sound not even approaching it. he can follow quite complex instructions and his hearing has been tested to death after he had meningitis so i feel fairly happy that he can hear ok.

but when do i start to worry or push for a slt referral. ds1 had about 20+ words by now and i read on here of all the others his age chatting away its making me feel rather nervous as he doesn't seem to be showing any signs of any words.

Figgygal · 05/08/2013 11:50

Aethel we went to see despicable me 2 yesterday too left DS with GPs and nipped to local volunteer run cinema love the minions!!

Hop DS is slowly starting to talk now he nowhere near where HVs would say he could be but we prob have 10-15words now plus all his animal noises and cars= vroom, boat= chug chug, train= choo choo it's coming very slowly maybe speak to HV about a referral if by end of month still no progress?

Xiaoxiong · 05/08/2013 14:52

Well, a piece of good news: I don't have gestational diabetes, thank goodness, apparently I just grow big babies Hmm

hinky I've no advice I'm afraid, other than to say if I were you I would be nervous too and probably asking for a referral if only to eliminate issues. Our neighbours' son (also a younger brother with an earlier speaking older brother) isn't speaking more than a few words at 2.5yrs and has been given all clear by specialists - they think he just is later than most, but of course every kid is different.

mopsytop · 05/08/2013 16:56

Hi all!

congrats Gary ... lovely news.

I am on way home from Italy so won't namecheck but just to say I had a FAB time! Was roasting. We ate loads, sunbathed, swam in the sea and, of course, attended the wedding which was totally amazing, in a gorgeous location outdoors in the hills with super views and ridiculously copious and fabulous food. We were eating from about 6 until midnight! I am dying dying dying to see Minimopsy though. Five days is SO long. There were loads of babies at the wedding on Saturday and I was missing her SO much!

QueenofClean · 06/08/2013 06:50

Well Darcie loved seeing Wicked yesterday...shattered now tho.

PerilousStiletto · 06/08/2013 07:53

By the by, northern mentioned The Crow Road, the TV prog, did you read it? (Iain banks) I read it when I was still at 6th form, and it was that book that taught me how to write. He jumps forward and back in time, across generations, but one chapter links perfectly to the other. This taught me the importance of flow. Smile Thank you Mr Banks, recently departed of this Earth.
Also departed of this Earth (see what I did there?! So desperately) was DH's niece this weekend. She came to spend a day/night with us to play with BOi. I could've killed her. I don't think she looked up from her mobile once. Totally departed from reality. (See, desperate linkage). Even when my BOi repeated her name at the first try and was adorably calling to her all the time to show her all the things in the garden, she was oblivious. Grrrr! Kids. I should've confiscated the fecking thing! (She's 14.)

SevenReasonsToSmile · 06/08/2013 09:19

peril when my brother and SIL visit with their DCs my 14yo neice is constantly on her phone the entire time. The oddest thing is she posts on fb about what a great time she's having here visiting family.

I've been looking on the law pages website, you can search for previous court cases for specific crimes, it names the defendents as well. I've looked at cases for possessing an indecent image of a child as far back as 2010, every single one resulted in a custodial sentence (presuming BIL is found guilty of course). MIL is still adamant he'll get community service and nobody will ever find out Hmm

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 06/08/2013 10:44

Seven if he gets convicted, wont he end up on the sex offenders register anyway, and have to declare it for work?

Congrats gary! Can't believe all the new babies that are here/on their way.

I only ever watch DrWho when it was David Tennant, as he's so yummy.

HAd a quiet weekend, went to a wedding on Sunday and while were out DS vommed on the babysitter (my good friend), she as a star though and cleaned him up and distracted him with youtube, and caught most of the sick in the potty! She said was payback for the times she puked on our carpet when we were students. DS seems fine now though.

Have husband's side of the family coming up in a couple of weeks, then the week after I've got my sister and all fiver of her DCs staying over a long weekend. Should be bedlam but good fun, the older boys are going to camp in the garden. Need to go shopping though as I'll be cooking for 10 for five days!

Xiaoxiong · 06/08/2013 12:08

Yay queen, glad she had a great time!

peril I love the books he wrote as Iain M Banks - ie. the scifi ones. The non-scifi are just always so dark and I couldn't deal with them Blush Maybe I shouldn't have started with the Wasp Factory...

mopsy so glad you had a good time and hope your reunion with minimopsy was lovely - absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that Grin

seven sounds like your MIL is in serious denial. How is your DH dealing with it all? I remember you saying he didn't want customers to find out and hassle him but I guess there's also potential for a serious family rift if BIL is found guilty and MIL is adamant that there's been a miscarriage of justice.

hop eek cooking for 10 for 5 days! I hope they're contributing to the cost. We regularly have at least that many to feed at our summer place in the States (where we can't go this year as I am too far along to fly, boo hoo) and rely a lot on pasta, thai curry, pasta, huge bowl of noodles, more pasta...

northern how's the commute so far? Getting lots of reading done I bet. In the 18 months or so when I was doing my 3 hour commute I read so many books, it amazes me to look at my Kindle sometimes and see how much I got through.

SevenReasonsToSmile · 06/08/2013 12:33

hop I don't really know anything about the register but guess he be on it as he has been before.

xiao things are fine at the moment, MIL is completely brushing it under the carpet, remember we only found out because SS phoned to ask if he has contact with the DCs, she didn't tell us so I strongly suspect even SIL doesn't know, BIL doesn't know we know, and I don't even think she knows that I know. I'm trying to be a good wife and support DH whilst keeping my mouth shut, but I'm sure that wont be possible when the shit inevitably hits the fan. I've lost all respect for MIL though, DH always said BIL always came first and couldn't put a foot wrong but I really thought something this big would have shifted her priorities. I don't want to make it a big deal but I'm not sure I'm even happy with her having photos of the DC's tbh, I don't want BIL seeing pictures of them and potentially thinking of them in that way.

hop wow 5 DC's! I second loads of pasta, and maybe a big roast though not in this heat

mopsy glad you had a good time.

faffin how's the building work going ?

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 06/08/2013 12:36

They're only here for a few days so not really worried about cost, hardly ever get to see my sister as she lives waaaay on the other side of the country. She's bringing all five of them on a five hour train journey, plus luggage, think she deserves a medal!

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 06/08/2013 12:37

Are we taking suggestions on the new thread name?

Figgygal · 06/08/2013 13:28

Oh I am rubbish with thread names sorry.

QOC glad you enjoyed Wicked i saw it earlier in the year and it was good but weirdly i enjoyed jersey boys more which i had to be dragged to kicking and screaming by my mum. Am taking her to see ghost when she visits in September as part of her 60th bday present looking forward to a good blub!!

DS teeth are coming through squint it is the same bottom ones that i have crooked but feeling bad and that it is related to the fact he still on bottles for milk i need to break that habit!! When can they stop having milk altogether? Just spoke to the HV about his digestive "distress" the CM is worried that when he poos he strains so much his head is going to explode...thankfully he loves his fruit and veg so more wholemeal bread and back to weetabix for him. Oh and they suggested if he has to have a biscuit to give him fig rolls which is a great idea as i keep eating his biscotti but you couldnt pay me to eat a fig roll Smile. If anyone has any ideas about baby constipation will gladly receive them here too.

Xiaoxiong · 06/08/2013 13:30

Speaking of pasta, we just had gorgeous pasta for lunch which took 3 minutes and DS LOVED - fresh tortellini with fresh corn, tomatoes, torn basil and a dollop of ricotta on top. Big success and although it's amazing with fresh corn I bet it will be fine with frozen corn when it's not summer time.

Oh and a new website discovery: store.imaginechildhood.com. I am massively holding myself back from buying every single thing. The books in particular are wonderful.

Xiaoxiong · 06/08/2013 13:35

Figgy we give DS watered down orange juice in the mornings mixed with vitamin drops - that seems to keep him regular but he also eats a ton of fruit which probably helps too - apricots and nectarines currently firm favourites.

And to think, just a few months ago I was bellyaching all over this thread about how DS wouldn't eat anything at all!! Now he'll eat his bodyweight in fruit, salmon/tuna/mackerel, peas, corn, avocado and even capers and olives without even blinking.

mopsytop · 06/08/2013 13:51

figgy, maybe also try some prunes whizzed up with watered down orange juice? if all.else fails I find lactullse.sorts it eventually. I was giving her 10ml twice a day before it worked though.

mopsytop · 06/08/2013 13:51

lactulose even
