chasing I got some from asda, they were really cheap too!
I just gave S 3 cubes,1 sweet potato, 1 carrot and 1 parsnip and she ate the lot. I was steaming broccoli and cauliflower so after she had her puree I gave her some broccoli to nom on, she got it EVERYWHERE! She had a taste but not sure she swallowed any, she enjoyed playing with it though.

ChasingDaisy · 13/05/2013 14:43

Babies are great aren't they? Such fun little people. I luffs mine.

fruit I was wearing a freshly washed jumper yesterday and found bits of broccoli on it Hmm

StuntNun · 13/05/2013 14:44

Asda have the apron bibs Chasing. I have studied immunology, have a history of allergies, DH has an allergy to seafood and DS1's corneas and eyelids used to swell up when his hayfever was bad. Suffice to say I'm well informed on allergy issues. It was still bloody terrifying though. As BigPig says there are two types of allergic reaction - the 'mild one' of rash, hives, lips swelling, sneezing, itching, coughing can be treated with antihistamines so long as they are given inmediately. There's no point giving them once the reaction has finished. If you have hayfever then you'll know that you really have to take the antihistamines in advance, once your eyes are streaming they don't have any effect. This is because antihistamines only stop the release of histamine. Once it's been released then it will continue to cause a reaction. The other reaction is anaphylaxis and this needs to be treated as soon as possible with an injection of adrenalin (also called epinephrine, it's the same thing). If the reaction is severe and the person is having difficulty breathing then it is a medical emergency that requires immediate treatment. This kind of reaction isn't that common, peanut allergy and beestings are likely causes.

Apparently 90% of children grow out of egg allergy by the age of 5 so there's a good chance J will be fine eventually.

chasing you have just put me off giving her broccoli again ha! It doesn't puree very well does it, or is that just me? It seemed really dry, the same with the cauliflower. I can't see those going down very well. I'll have to mix it well with the lovely creamy sweet potato think I like eating sweet potato puree more than S

ChasingDaisy · 13/05/2013 15:02

fruit I didn't find it pureed well either. Not that it matters as O won't touch them anyway Hmm The only finger food he hasn't liked the taste of so far is carrots. Going to make some sweet potato chips this week to see if he likes them.

Meeting my neighbour and her 8 month old on Friday. They are doing BLW so will be after lots of tips!

Stunt you know your stuff. I am convinced that O will have an allergy of some kind so know what to look out for now.

FatimaLovesBread · 13/05/2013 15:10

Ahhh so annoyed.

Bought a nursing bra from Bravissimo the week before going on hol. Splashed out as I needed a smaller back size. Got fitted etc and came home with a 30GG. Thought I'd save it for the holiday, went to put it on one night and it just didn't feel right. Had room in the back and underarm and space in the cups. I'm going to try it on again and see if it feels the same. If I'm not happy can I take it back? I'd snapped the label off before putting it on thinking it was fine. It's still got the Panache label on but not the Bravissimo one. How quickly will I need to return it because my nearest shop is in Leeds and I don't go that often, will have to make a special trip.

Even more annoying, MIL bought me some TOMs for my birthday. I've got two plain pairs in size four that I've worn to death, she bought me a 'university' pair so I told her to order size 4 thinking they'll fit the same. Shoes arrived, shit weather so I just put them in my cupboard until better weather. Took them on holiday and guess what, they don't fit. They're tiny. I thought my feet might be swollen from the heat but tried again and they are ridiculously small. Don't know whether to try exchange them without a receipt or not. Suppose I could see if someone will buy them?
Arghh so annoyed I didn't try them on atraight away

On another note there's been a man in a British Gas can sat outside my house for 45 mins. Obviously between jobs, fair enough but he's been sat with the engine on the whole time. It's starting to piss me off.

Grin

Fruit, my DS2 used to ask for 'orange mush' (sweet potato puree) for dinner for months after he was on to proper solid food.

I have started an egg allergy thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/breast_and_bottle_feeding/1754910-My-breastfed-baby-is-allergic-to-egg-do-I-need-to-stop-eating-eggs if anyone fancies sticking their oar in contributing.

Hey Stunt if he's not reacted to egg in BM I would keep on with it as a way of gently introducing - but if you find he's unsettled or having sleep issues it could be he's been reacting to egg for a while? Intolerances and allergies can cause stomach cramps, itchyness in the throat and other symptoms which can lead to poor sleeping. From memory (quite likely to be wrong apologies if so!) didn't you struggle with sleep training J?- I wonder if he's been reacting to egg? I'd maybe eliminate and see what happens - or the cruel way seemingly favoured by some quarters on MN but NOT recommended by dieticians eat a lot and see if he reacts badly Shock Shock Shock

fruitpastilles · 13/05/2013 16:37

Eeewwww 'orange mush' = orange vom Hmm

fruitpastilles · 13/05/2013 16:38

As demonstrated just by my lovely daughter!

Pikz · 13/05/2013 16:44

I having a brag post as proper chuffed with self and with DP away for week no adults to talk to/brag at.

I have managed to get LO to do 3 hour long naps in his cot!! Putting him in sleeping bag seems to be key.

I have managed to change our super king bed on my own! Get 3 loads on washing out on line, dry, filed and put away. Make shortbread, make purée, have lunch. Tidy house from top to bottom and when he wakes from nap we shall go food shopping.

I feel ace today getting so much done. Partly posting this for when tomorrow is maybe shite and I can remind myself of my brilliant Monday.

Big hugs to all Thanks

fruitpastilles · 13/05/2013 17:29

Sophiathesnowfairy · 13/05/2013 18:08

Great job pikz and so you should be smug. Grin

kirrinIsland · 13/05/2013 18:18

wow pikz You're having a great day :) Whats the secret?

Welcome back fatima Glad you had a good holiday.

Thanks for the allergy advice bplp I'm not sure I'd have known what to do in stunt's position, I probably would have gone to A&E Blush

A small rant if I may? I wHited in all bloody morning for the plumber - he rang again at 12 so say he'd be about an hour, and then at one to say he couldn't come after all -grrr. He did say he could come tomorrow between 8 and 10; but seeing as that's what he said yesterday I told him to shove it no thanks. Called someone else and they were here 2 hours later.

BigPigLittlePig · 13/05/2013 18:22

Broken fanjo is fixable peeps - turns out the scar tissue is slow to heal and oversensitive, because of a lack of oestrogen due to breast feeding. So I have a 2 month course of oestrogen pessaries to see if that helps.

Pikz nice one! I cleaned the shower plug out today. Suffice it to say, 6 months of post-pregnancy hair loss had made it truely revolting.
Fruit orange vom - blurgh.

F has had weetabix for breakfast, pear for lunch, and sweet potato for tea. All enjoyed, all caused sufficient mess.

I wonder how madams bacon roll and coffee went!?

MsJupiterJones · 13/05/2013 18:23

Stunt so is it a good idea to keep some antihistamine around? Or is it not something we should give without advice? I presume you can get it in liquid form. Feel a bit stupid on this subject, the paed asked us if there were any allergies in the family and we both said no, so he said, no asthma or hayfever? I was like... oh yeah I have hayfever. DH was like, oh yeah and my sister has asthma and severe cat allergy. Blush

L had blood tests for allergies but apparently they can only diagnose anaphylactic reactions and then not conclusively. Helpful. We are meant to be testing him on dairy & other stuff but I am feeling quite nervous about it.

Chasing we've been giving toast & bagels since 6 months, he loves them. Porridge fingers is a popular BLW breakfast & you can add fruit purée or bits. Tried for the first time this morning but rejected amid meltdown. It's 3tbsp normal oats and 3tbsp ebm or formula. 2 mins in microwave or 10-15 in oven.

StuntNun · 13/05/2013 19:20

Afaik antihistamine is a very safe drug JJ. You can buy it over the counter in liquid form but I imagine the dosing would be for children 3+. I know I feel reassured at having it in the house in case of any other adverse reactions.

Hallo ladies and gentleman peepers.

Weird weather day today.

pikz you are on fire woman! Go girl! Have some Wine

Apart from P's CMPI there are no allergies in our family. I am asthmatic but not allergic asmathic. And I m allergic to nail varnish. We had scrambled eggs this morning and it was only the fact that it had a splash of milk in that made me not hand some over.

Oh! Actually stunt did J not have egg noodles yesterday? Even though he might not have eaten any it does suggest his allergy must be on the milder side? Ya think?

I ventured into TK MAXX today to check out the gro bags. Never been in there before. I got a nice pink butterfly design. There was a tantalising pussy cat design but it was 1 tog. Might go back and get it for summer and visits to the grandparents as they heat their houses like greenhouses

ChasingDaisy · 13/05/2013 19:39

Thanks JJ he is 6 months in 2 weeks so will start with toast with purees on then.

Can I just say how awesome this quiche is for weaning advice. There is a real sense of all being in it together. I love seeing pics and reading everyone's stories about it and I have found lots of food inspiration. How do mums manage without this quiche?!

Passmethecrisps · 13/05/2013 19:46

Toast and purée is a great idea. I put some banana on some toast earlier and have some dry. Dry won out actually. She sooked on that for ages.

I totally agree chasing. I love hearing about what others are doing and people trying things they would never have done before.

TheDetective · 13/05/2013 20:16

O has been on top form today.

I feel almost human again! Grin

He's been wonderful. Happy, playing, just awesome. I'll smooth over the stealing my glasses off my face repeatedly and pulling everyones hair out Grin.

I started ironing during O's nap this afternoon, and had a massive fuck off pile to get through. Took me 3 fucking hours! But for the hour and a half O was awake, he just happily rolled around the floor, his play mat, and playing with his toys! He was giggling at himself! He seemed to like the sound of the steam iron too which I suppose helped! I didn't have to stop to pick him up or do anything for him the whole time Shock. This evening he has been sat up, slightly supported with a cushion, and he was made up as he was able to reach out for all the little toys in front of him and pick them up. He was so chuffed it was very cute!

He went down for 2 naps today, and has been awake since 3.30. Put him to bed late as dinner was late bloody DP so he has just gone at 7.45. That's a really long stretch for O. And he didn't whine or whinge! At bed time he took his bottle, went straight to sleep, and straight in the moses basket which I've put in the cot. Figured it's a better transition than the pram! No rocking or white noise required.

I wonder if the regression is fucking the fuck off back where it came from? PLEEEEEEEEEEEEASE?!

He's in the swaddle I had ordered from Amazon. It's much better for him. He seems very happy in it. I am keeping my fingers firmly crossed for better things!!

TheDetective · 13/05/2013 20:17

Can I check - lentils. Ok for under 6 months? Could google, but quiche knows best Grin.

Passmethecrisps · 13/05/2013 20:19

Fingers crossed det! Sounds like a lovely day.
