March 2013: Smiles, sleep & excellent feeding.....the thread of wishful thinking!

Well we may as well start the thread on a positive note before the grumbling about the little darlings begins!!!

Ahhh im awake and ds is asleep. He went to sleep at 7PM and woke at 1 for a feed. He was stirring so went to make him a feed and hes fast asleep now. I didnt expect ds to sleep from 7 but he must have been tired from the busy day we had.

I cant remember who is going to cornwall (ive never recovered my baby brain) but im jealous . Thats a lovely part of the country. We went devon last year. Was amazing. No holiday for us this year. We are struggling with finances so i would rather make sure i have a long maternity leave if we can stretch dh's income.

Well night went really well. Just one wake for a feed at 2.30 then straight back to sleep. Of course he is now wide awake at 6 having a very loud and in depth conversation with himself. I think it's time to consider moving him into his own room next door. I must get a mattress sorted for the cot. Might as well go have a shower seeing as I'm wide awake. How do men manage to sleep through it all?

There is only on pink bear I'm afraid Eco. I can see this causing us no end of trouble in the future, as honestly the tiddler is besotted.

Eig - an accountant in banking... blimey, how are you going to fit that round a baby? It was the 60 hr weeks that persuaded me to get out in the end. Where are you? I was GS.

Not much to report here as mini-worse is asleep and has been since 10pm. I however have been awake since 4am... the joys of being an incredibly light sleeper with both a snorer (DH) and a snorter (mini-worse) in the room.

Enjoy your holidays everyone. I'm off to Devon in a week, but unfortunately only for a few days. It would have been longer but our plans clashed with my parents plans to come and stay with us. That isn't as inconsiderate of them as it might sound - they live overseas, so it's not like they can pop by any time.

No holidays for us this year, but since it seems a lot of you are coming to our neck if the woods for yours, maybe staycationing isn't too bad! Worse, whereabouts in Devon are you staying? Again, there might be an option to have a coffee and chat about tiddlers and how they fit (or not!) with careers in finance if you fancied it...

Hey all. pudnat I completely feel for you. You have to be sensible, being hospitalized when ebf means mini pud needs top ups, it may even mean he is better on formula. The work involved in doing both must be totally knackering and you do need to think of your health too, if only because mini pud needs his mummy around.

worse without outing myself imam a partner in a big four accounting firm. I've worked on some deals for GS as i specialise in M&A. So yes very used to the long hours. Thinking about what I do now I have two but had agreed to six months off, may consider a change of role.

Speaking of accountants. Where is wingd ? Hope she is ok, hasn't seen her post for a while and she was poorly??

leni a friend of mine was also at a Stephen fry thing, said it was great. I tried to get mini eig to take a bottle at 3am but not having any of it. Just worried about doing a big transition to formula and me going back to work a the sane time might be a bit much for mini eig ( and me).... Going to mull over my plans, with no thrush the feeding is actually very easy, just very limiting as while we can bf out and about mini eig feeds better in the quiet at home ....

Ah, you're all talking about the wrong end of Cornwall. I only know the area around Redruth, much further west. And I'm guessing no one's likely to be coming to Hull for a holiday and a coffee any time soon.

zig they sleep through it because their brain registers the noise then blocks it out because it's not relevant. Women can do the same thing, with practice. This morning I fed DD when she started shouting at 5.45, then told the man he was on duty and went back to sleep. When she started shouting again at 7.30, he was up and getting her breakfast before I'd even woken up. And I just managed to sleep through her being quite shouty all morning.

Planning to go to the hippy vegetarian cafe for lunch today. Will take a camera, and if I find any excellent colourful coats with pointy hoods, plonko, I shall take a picture for you and you can see what you think.

DH always looks after little one if she wakes after 4am until he goesd to work at 8:30 ish and only hand her to me if she needs feeding so this means I can have totally switched off sleep then. He also looks after her every evening after we do bathtime together until she falls asleep. I find it essential to be able to that swtiched off time!

Sympathise with those of you going to back to long working hour jobs. Till recently worked as a lawyer in magic circle in the City but now work from home - similar crazy hours but will always be around for the little one and will be able to ebf so works really will.

DD has decided that she will now only nap in her cot at home or in the sling and absolutely no where else!

So- clearly it has taken dd only one day to my nap extending plan. Having been cruelly conned into a nap of nearly 2 hours yesterday, today, despite obvious screamy exhaustion, she is not even GOING to sleep, just in case I try to pull a fast one.

Can someone pinch me? DS has been napping for almost two hours. This hasn't happened since he was a newborn! I'm slightly in shock and not sure what to do with myself.

Wing glad to hear you're ok, was worried you'd flounced. I know what you mean, enjoy your tiny person.

Stormy oh yes ta! Dp will hate it but I think DS will look so cute. Perfect for the colder months too - and it seems to go from brilliant sunshine to bitter cold in these there hills. Probably wont be holidaying near hull but as a kid I spent many a day trip in Whitby, Scarborough and Bridlington (I presume it was particularly stormy there when you last visited). I'd love to take DS up there for days out when he's a bit bigger.

Eig we're also doing Florida in either January or February. Which part are you visiting?

Mad naps all round - DD had a two and a quarter hour one this morning. Then she woke up, had some milk, we went out, she fell asleep in the buggy, and just woke up now. So she's had less than an hour awake of the past four. They've got rid of the hippy baby clothes, plonko, alas.

The Brid in my name is not actually a reference to Bridlington. It's my actual name. And Stormy is because before the twenty week scan DD was known as Stormageddon.

Ah my bump was known as Zippy. I actually struggled to call him by his real name for ages after he was born.

Yeah, 12 week jabs done and mini eig clearly loves the boob as is now 5.8 kg despite being ill and throwing up! Yeah. So happy. Lets hope she is ok after these jabs and we have a restful day and night!

rainbow was it hard giving up? Magic circle lawyer is no easy job though and probably harder than mine to balance. Sounds like you have the perfect set up though. I have you to thank for my new addiction to chamomile tea. Can't get enough of the stuff!

Hmmm glad your LO's are having good naps. Mine is the opposite today. He just cant seem to settle. When he tries to settle he starts crying with his eyes closed.

Eig not that hard to give up in the end. I got so so sick of the unpredictable hours and eating all my meals in the office. My office mate and I often joked how we spent way more time together than with our respective husbands. I saw how badly treated women who had kids were there and decided I didn't want to be faced with the same thing when my time came so as soon as a suitable job came up I went for it! I do miss the prestige of it a bit I guess but I love love love working from home and the flexibility it offers. And yay for chamomille tea!

Today been having debate with my grandma and dad about whether ebf babies need additional water. They don't seem to believe me that breastmilk contains 88per cent water and that feeding dd additional weater would mess up my supply. Apparently she cries because she is desperately thirsty despite the hundreds of wet nappies! She pretty much only cried when she is tired which seems to be a lot at the moment because she is clearly having a growth spurt. Sometimes could do without 'advice'!!!

Rainbow that's my favourite one too. DM, MIL, grandparents, aunties all feel this is necessary & can't quite get their heads round the idea it might not be!
