kayz mil was a teacher too - must be some weird immunity they have Hmm

Vagolajahooli · 12/06/2013 09:36

There is a random thing where some people just seem to have ready made immunity. I worked with a couple of nurses in paeds who had never had pox. But your DH is right now she is older her immune system is weaker. But if she is offering, in fact insisting and you need it, may as well. Glad the poxclin is working out, it's expensive but effective and easy to apply. Bummer last night was a bit crap again for her. Hope you get some rest soon.

I'm girding my loins for this afternoon, its a half day so pick up is at 12:15ur, ds2 has a friend over & ds1 is going to a friends house. I drop ds2's friend home at 14:15 then straight to swimming for ds2, will have a little run at the dunes near ds2's swimming lessons. The at 15:30after swimming it's straight to ds1's mates house to pick him up then whizz as fast as lightening on the bike to basketball for ds1 over near the other beach. Then finally home from bball at 17:15 to cook tea. Crikey, I'm tired just thinking about it.

Hey Rubes how are your drastic measures going, are you still off the plonk? If you are while dealing with the pox, you're amazing. I've been keeping off the carbs but with all the rushing around with the boys activities and the recent occasional sunshine I've been having a cheeky little alcoholic cordial (squash) drink some afternoons. There is a tropical cordial here that if I make it up with sparkling water it tastes like passiona, then I add martini rosso and pimms with ice and fruit. Aah it's delish and mt little afternoon evil. Mmmm.

Artichook · 12/06/2013 09:53

I'm exhausted reading about your day Veg. But then I am exhausted reading about anything. DS' is waking more and more often at night. He was going 4-5 hours now it is often less than 2. I've forgotten all the tricks for encouraging them to go longer. Half the time I think he wakes himself up with farts and then just demands a feed because he is awake. Its hard with three kids: I have to do drop off and pick-ups at 9am, 12 noon and 3.30pm so there is no time to sleep when he sleeps as his day time naps are in the pram as I run about. YAWN.

Rubena · 12/06/2013 10:10

Vag I'm not quite at drastic measures but I should be. Have cut the plonk way back although I did crack last night and had a glass and a half of Wine but otherwise have been very low carbing and trying to still get out with the dog even if just half an hour.
Your day does sound packed!

Arti I'm more tired hearing your day too.
The nursery asked me to confirm dds pattern for using grant funded sessions next term that I've been on waiting list for preferred days and I nearly swapped them to 5 days of 8-1 but then realized how cocked up having to do a pick up for dd at 1 would be then have to get ds at 3.15 for 5 days, so I'm staying with my plan of 2 or 3 days 8-4 and then have her home the other 2 if that makes sense. So, I really feel for you but at least he might be easier to manage later if he's used to napping in the buggy like lady's two were always out and about. It's nice not to be tied to managing your day around a baby who only naps at home in its own cot etc.

JamInMyWellies · 12/06/2013 10:16

Blimey vag, I would say with all that rushing about you need huge amounts of cake.

Arti sorry you are knackered I am so not looking forward to that part.

Rubes hope DD is better for you today.

I am gutted went out on my bike this morning for a quick cycle first time since before half term, and it was horrible. The midwife and all my friends have told me I am stupid to go out on the road in a bike because of the risks if I fall off but I am determined to keep my fitness up. And anyway it felt all wrong was worrying all the time about cars and my ridiculously huge already bump was super uncomfortable while riding. Sad I will have to stick with swimming which is such a bore.

spotofcheerfulness · 12/06/2013 10:16

Hello everyone! Sorry for absence, am in middle of swotting for second interview for job (the third at the same place!) and preparing presentation so just lurking, but after tomorrow will be back with Wine and [tea] and Biscuit to make friends again Grin.

spotofcheerfulness · 12/06/2013 10:16

erm, that should have been Brew

Artichook · 12/06/2013 10:17

That is really sensible re your DD's hours Rubes. We were not given a choice about nursery hours. Its a 15 minute walk one way to the school/nursery so basically I walk 1.5 hours a day going back and forth (that is without factoring in DD1's clubs which require dropping her different places after school).

Re low carbing: it worked so well for me last year that I want to do it now but I have to be careful as I am BFing. I thought I might just cut out refined carbs and try and centre my meals around carbs like quinoa, oats, brown rice, lentils etc. Do you consider those low carb? Do you think I could loose weight by sticking to them? Its all a bit hard as I am also dairy free at the moment so I do not want to eliminate too much.

Artichook · 12/06/2013 10:19

Ha, ha Spot. You clearly have Wine on the mind. Good luck for the interview.

Sorry to hear about the cycle Jam. Could you cycle off road with some sort of bump support? Or switch to fast walking?

Rubena · 12/06/2013 10:51

Yes they didn't technically give me a choice. Well they offered a few options and turned down my initial request, but this actually works well as I can drop dd off at nursery for 8 ish or a bit after then ds starts school at 840 about 15 min from her nursery so I just do a little round trip but only the once, then pick ds up at 315 and dd straight after as long as its by 4pm. The other 2 days I can just walk with dd to ds school ) about 10 min - so 20 I guess taking her.
Ah with really low carb I don't do any even good carbs, but I reckon cutting out the refined carbs will help and is a good start while bf. i think refined carbs are bad anytime.
I'm hardly taking it seriously if I'm still having a little Wine however!
I don't eat carbs only drink them Grin

Good luck Spot!!

Rubena · 12/06/2013 10:53

Jam I hate cycling on the road when I'm not pregnant! Using a bike trailer feels a little more solid. I like swimming tho but hate all the faff with drying hair etc and all that.

Rubena · 12/06/2013 10:58

Yes jam power walking is pretty my h as good as slow jogging. And as long as you get / keep your heart rate at around 70% of max that's best for fat burning anyway.

Pox question: when its said they are suppose to crust over does that mean they all need to? What I mean is dd is covered, but only about a handful are sort of messy sores the others are just red bumps that look to be less red than yesterday. Will they come back up until they scab or go down and that will be it?

DeidreBarlow · 12/06/2013 12:52

Oh my lord vag, I could not rush about like that without carbs!! I'm trying to low carb but I'm not that good at it...shred going well but I think I'm retaining waterBlush. I read that if can happen if you really overwork new muscles as you retain water while they healConfused. Anyway I seem a bit less wobbly

Rubes I waited till all pox had scabbed over/ dried up. It took about 6/7 days with DS but only about 4 with DD as she only had a few!

DeidreBarlow · 12/06/2013 12:54

I tried to rude DHs bike the other day, I'd actually forgotten how and was wobbling everywhere!! The shame, I got the hang of it again but cycling is not for me...I hate dealing with traffic. So jam in your condition I can understand the worry.

Rubena · 12/06/2013 13:37

Deids, they say to drink more water to combat fluid retention. Also, squeezing lemon or lime or a tiny bit of juice (I mean tiny) is actually better as that tiny bit of carbohydrate in it will mean your body will absorb it better than pure water, of which which more tends to go straight back out. Gotta sip it too rather than down it even if dehydrated.

Not sure who I think I am - some kind of nutritionist or something Hmm

DeidreBarlow · 12/06/2013 14:44

Thanks, that does make sense! Grin I

Honsandrevels · 12/06/2013 16:52

Just a quick pox question (sorry for my lack of proper catch up, that's my plan for tonight).

Dd2 had a awful temp until this morn but that's now fine and no spots. Anyone know how long from first illness to spots appearing? Everything I've read says 'shortly' which is very non specific!

Rubena · 12/06/2013 17:17

Hmm don't recall exactly with dd hons but she had a cold right before (the night before) and has had a cough for ages so it all blended in. She was a little hot Sunday night but no massive temp. She also had a few spots here and there which we thought might be just a different virus or possible pox, then in the morning (monday) she was covered and no question.

beans37 · 12/06/2013 17:19

Rubes, my GP said 5 days from when the first spot appeared, regardless of scabbing etc.
hons, I'm afraid I don't know about from first illness. My two both got the pox and then were ill!

Man I'm tired today. And grumpy and horrible and wish DH wasn't going to be in tonight because I can't be arsed to speak to him.

Rubena · 12/06/2013 17:25

Thanks beans. Do you mean from 5 days regardless, they aren't contagious?

beans37 · 12/06/2013 17:32

That's what the man said, and I interpreted it literally for both!

Rubena · 12/06/2013 17:35

Thanks. Brilliant shell be going to nursery Monday then. Bet ds has it by then! Need a day to get stuff done!!

Mckayz · 12/06/2013 17:53

Rubes, my doctor said that 5 day rule thing is rubbish and that all the spots have to be crusted over before they can go out. Everyone seems to have different ideas though. My friend was told the 5 day thing and nursery refused to take her DS.

Rubena · 12/06/2013 18:03

Hmm ok - well anyway I am taking ds to preschool tomorrow so I will beg if they will have her after 8 days-- ask what their procedure is.
dh doesn't know squat about the pox it seems Hmm
JJaaaaaaaaaaaay !!! Confused

right, better get sorted for this big boy school meeting Grin

Mckayz · 12/06/2013 20:41

I've been sat upstairs for an hour and 40 minutes trying to get DD to sleep. I know I'll crack before she does. Sad
