Oh spotty we feel your pain at this end. Couldn't get O to sleep till 10.30 despite him being obviously tired, and he's been awake to feed at least 3 times since then.
Even dh was getting a bit despairing earlier and he's normally got the patience of a saint when it comes to ds. Roll on the end of sleep regression.
How's the duct? I remember having the same as you last time - hot breast pads and massage for 36 hours cleared it in the end.

Pidj sounds like a great day! We have both been making the most of the sun today larking about on walks and now a little pink of face would you believe it..

Well last night I fed DS in the bedroom at 7 and he was asleep by 7.07, he woke as I was eating at 7.30 so I fed while I ate, then after I came upstairs with him and got him to bed at 8.30 and he stayed Shock we came to bed at 10.15 and he didn't stir until 11.15 for a feed, went straight back down at 11.45ish and just woke at 4.15!! Such a good boy tonight.

Sorry DS is not behaving so well spotty i read on kellymom yesterday there is a growth spurt at 4 months, could that explain it? it explains why I'd suddenly started spraying across the room again !

I don't know this has been going on for three weeks now. Fifth night feed now Sad

Spotty, it's so weird. You'd been getting such terrible sleep, then it all seemed to come good for you (much better than C's been) and now you've got a proper regression on your hands. I hope it ends soon for you.

Ditto willyou and utopian.

Very decent night here. We have been dream feeding v early (9pm) as C had been waking then. Last night we started trying to move it again. Seemed to work - she had 9.30pm feed then next woke at 3.15am! Hasn't slept that long in a month. Up again now - I think she's brewing a poo.

Miraculously we had a good night here. She refused to feed last night & was very unsettled, took almost two hours for her to settle into her cot, but somehow SOMEHOW she slept through until 7 as normal. She wasn't very happy when she got up, which is unusual, but think that might be because she had a dirty nappy & she's probably hungry!

Spotty Hope the duct is clearing up?

Spotty I hope your duct is clearing and that you get the chance for a nap or decent night's sleep soon!

Weejo FX that little one feels much better today.

Well, despite being a rather sleepy baby this weekend T has had some incredibly good nights! Usually sleeping 21:30 ish until about 3 am.

I'd like to start making his bedtime earlier... It did move back to almost 8pm but then when the clock changes it seemed to upset his rhythm and now it is back at 9pm ish... How much and how often can I move his bedtime forward? Ideally I think I would like it to be around 8pm that he is in bed asleep so that DP and I can have some time together. Although on the other hand I don't want to sacrifice too much solid sleep...

Aaaannnd T seemed really snuffly overnight. Woke himself (and us) up because he was coughing and having trouble breathing through his nose :( what can I do to help him?
He is fine now- fast asleep in bed Hmm

The Little Mister has had a terrible cold too for the last few days.

We have found raising the end of the cot up a little with a couple of books helps, as does baby Olbas Oil and regular Calpol.

It's frustrating though as really there is not much you can do to help them. It's horrid :(

I second fods advice, you could try a nasal aspirator but I've never tried one so no feedback.

Report
WeeJo08 · 15/04/2013 09:12

Nutella I second the nasal aspirator advice from WLMum - C had a cold a while back & remained a bit snotty so we have one from then. It worked pretty well, a bit hard to get the hang of at first. But (TMI alert) I found that I used it to suck the Big Bad Bogey (or Triple B) to near the front of her nose & then swooped in with a muslin to wipe the Triple B out. It did seem to help. I would also advise raising the end of the cot. I guess that old gravity thingy does have its uses sometimes though it didn't frickin help me during labour Grin

MaMaPo · 15/04/2013 09:35

Nutella, re moving bedtime, could you post what your bedtime timings and routines are, and what sort of naps T has? C used to be a solid 8.30pm bedtime baby and I accidentally stumbled onto the fact that she's just as able to go to bed at 7pm (and gain an extra 90min sleep per day!).

Belated happy birthday for barbeasty and hales.

IsThat DS learned to scream a couple of weeks ago. He brings his arms up and bends in the middle to get as much force (and volume) behind his screech. Luckily he's not done it much recently. Hope your LO gets bored of it soon.

Spotty giggle-grats! It's adorable isn't it? T giggles at times, but it seems random as to what will make him laugh. He seems sort of ticklish though, and likes the "round and round the garden, like a teddy bear" rhyme/tickle. He anticipates the tickle too which is funny.
Hope your blocked duct clears soon, has LO started doing a lazy latch or something which might be causing it?
We've had weeks of awful sleep here too, he's been improving every night for the last 3, so I'm hoping this is the end of it. He's got his jabs tomorrow though, and this started just after his last jabs :(

Honey I'm sure there's nothing wrong with D. My nephew was 'late' to laugh, and when he did start he used to jam his fist as far into his mouth as he could to try not to laugh!

Weejo I hope LO is feeling better, and your Dad and Grannie.

Nutella I hope LO feels better soon. T has had a sniffly nose for maybe 6 weeks :( Luckily it doesn't seem to bother him too much. I hope it's not an allergy to our cats like me.

Just got around to trying out the MAM breast pump and I really like it. Comparing to a Tommee Tipiee one my sister gave me. On a practical front it's nice and easy to take apart, and the handle section is completely separate from the milk area, so doesn't need sterilising. The bottle it comes with is 'self sterilising' which is cool - it all folds up into itself, then you pop it in the microwave. It's also anti colic.

The pump has a nice small cup (I'm now apparently a FF cup size, but found the larger cup on the TT too big for me) and is comfortable to use. There's a valve on the pump too, so you can have a softer suction action which I found made expressing much more comfortable. You can see the milk leaving the nipple, so I could see when the flow was reducing and tried changing the suction level/massaging breast to get a little more out.

I got about 2oz in 10 minutes. For a first time expressing I think that's not too bad. I used the breast DS hasn't fed from this morning. I hope that'll be ok and I won't starve him, I fed him before he slept at about 9 so he shouldn't be hungry for a little while. I'm trying not to worry too much about it though. How long does it take to make more milk? Fingers crossed I've not broken things!

Report
MaMaPo · 15/04/2013 10:25

Stacks, that seems like a good start in terms of volume of milk expressed. I rarely worry about C going hungry when I'm expressing - I tend to try to express after she's fed, or on the breast she hasn't had, but when I've expressed first and then she's fed I don't think she's ever gone hungry. I figure all the compressions I do are pretty inefficient, but she's very good at getting all the milk she needs! Speaking of which, 2h40 since her last feed, her grizzling is now telling me something!

Nutella I think they say 10 mins a day.

After a chat at 3, a bottle at 4 and playtime til 5:30 I was exhausted when J woke at 7, so I popped him in next to me and we slept til 9:15 Shock. Today I will be ensuring he naps to prevent him crashing out early and being awake all night. I don't care if I have to walk a marathon with the pram!

Cake, tea and hugs spotty it's so hard when they're like that. If he's screaming anyway can you pop him down on his mat for a minute while you take a few deep breaths?

It's ok I'm calm now Blush I'm just feeding him again as I know it will keep him quiet Blush

Dd was such a breeze in comparison to ds four hourly feeds scheduled naps and happy to be left on her own.

I've already had a mealtesers bar, two chocolate croissants and a slice of banana cake this morning is it ok to have a chocolate muffin too?!

(Sorry for mememe Blush)

Stacks · 15/04/2013 11:35

Spotty. You should definitely have a muffin!

After 10 weeks of trying unsuccessfully to get DS take a dummy, he took a MAM 0-2m 'extra small' dummy straight away just now! And he's keeping it in himself. I always wondered if the other dummies were too big as they made him gag - even though they were 0-3m size. Ofc he could just be enjoying chewing it because of his teeth.

I now need to leave the house to buy cake. Spotty, you've inspired me! It must be doubly tricky with a difficult/challenging second child after an easy one. But then again, at least you know it isn't anything you've done or not done, it's just temperament. Hang in there. And do put him down and go for a hot shower next time it gets too much - 5 minutes of screaming won't do him any harm, and it might do you some good.

Little C nicely gave me a sleep in this morning - after waking at 5 for a feed and not going back to sleep because of oncoming poo, I put her down for a nap at 8am and fell asleep myself. Lovely husband snuck out of the house to work and she didn't wake until 9.30am! Best sleep-in I've had for ages. She's asleep again now and I am resolutely not doing housework, though I have resolved to do some spring cleaning. There is loads of crap in this house that we won't want in Australia, so I might as well clear it out now and live in a tidy house for once!

Things that make C giggle include the word 'zip', tickling her shoulders and biting her chin. She's a weird kid.

Yay for giggles Honey and Spotty.

Hope your blocked duct has gone Spotty.

Hope your LO is better today Weejo.

I am so hungover its not funny. No drinking since last February and yesterday went out and was rotten Confused DP was a star though he looked after H while i was out did all the night feed and took her downstairs so i could sleep Grin but i havn't leaked at all my breasts don't even feel full. So i'm guessing i've lost my supply and H is now a FF baby. So stupid question alert how do i feed her during the night? Do i get her out the cot and do it or leave her in it?
