Thought we should get a new thread before the night shift Wink

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SpottyTeacakes · 27/04/2013 15:14

Ok the first one says this:

Fluoroquinolones have traditionally not been used in infants because of concern about adverse effects on the infants' developing joints. However, recent studies indicate little risk.[1][2] The calcium in milk might prevent absorption of the small amounts of fluoroquinolones in milk,[3] but insufficient data exist to prove or disprove this assertion. Short-term use of moxifloxacin is acceptable in nursing mothers. However, it is preferable to use an alternate drug for which safety information is available.

It does offed suitable alternatives so if you wanted to it might be worth asking your GP when you get back.

The second one says:

With maternal intravenous and oral therapy, breastfed infants receive metronidazole in doses that are less than those used to treat infections in infants, although the active metabolite adds to the total infant exposure. Plasma levels of the drug and metabolite are measurable, but less than maternal plasma levels. Case reports of candidal infections and diarrhea have been reported, and a comparative trial suggested that oral and rectal colonization with Candida might be more common in infants exposed to metronidazole.

So that one seems to be ok.

Part of me thinks 'well the doctors know ski is breastfeeding of course they would find a suitable alternative if they could' but unfortunately the other part of me knows this isn't always the case....

WLmum · 27/04/2013 16:29

ski try fenugreek tablets too - I've always found they help boost my supply.
DH was only gone for an hour and then everyone came to watch me shower - hmmm.

Stacks · 27/04/2013 16:42

I'm so fed up of being shouted at. I spend my whole day trying to keep T occupied. He repays me by shouting at me whatever I do. I've tried goig for a walk, his playmat, I've tried walking round, nappy free time, singing, rhymes, toys on the sofa. Still just shouting. It's not sad, he's not in pain, he's just demanding something. His dad will come home and he'll just smile at him.

Stacks · 27/04/2013 17:13

He's shouting and whining at me just now, even while sucking on boob. It just feels like I can't do anything right by him. :( FIL was over today as DH is out, T typically well behaved while he was here, monster since he's left. Does anyone else feel like their LO is bored of their company?

Ski you should be able to keep some supply at least till you get home, then I'd suggest a call to LLL or a specialist (a HV at least) for advice. Hope it all turns out ok.

barbeasty your night almost exactly mirrors mine :( I hope you get a break sometime. I've started just sleeping with DS from his bedtime 7/8pm as I'm so tired. DH gave me extra time in bed this morning though.

Seconds like you, if I get 10 minutes without DS I tidy something up that's been bothering me for hours/days/weeks because its not been done. My DH needs training to do more housework I think.

I'm going to talk to DH about being stressed/tired/PND. I think it's made worse by being jealous of him and his spare time. Weekdays his DS "shift" is around 5-8pm, though usually shorter. All the rest of the time is his own or work, and his only housework is the dishes. Then weekends he takes DS while I tidy, periodically giving him back so he can take a break. Mornings are a great time for me to get some time off, as DS feeds when he wakes up, then is happy for 1-2hrs, naps for an hour, wakes up happy, then wants fed. However DH is terrible at mornings. I can't ask him to do both weekend days as then he doesn't get a lay in at all. I'm also generally wide awake by the time DH gets up with DS, so I rarely get to sleep. Just lay in bed listening to them downstairs criticising DH in my head.

Barbeasty · 27/04/2013 17:42

I do get 2 hours on a Sunday, when DH takes both DC (and his mum) to church. But as you say, it's spent on jobs- usually getting the lunch on so we eat before going for DD's swimming lesson.

Although last week DD had fiddles with the fridge's temperature dial and frozen the chicken, so I decided to leave the pit of a house and sit in the sun for an hour.

We didn't make it to gap (good for my bank balance!) But did spend the John Lewis vouchers I got for my birthday. A new 4 slice toaster, and a lighter weight cardigan for summer. I live the high life!

Also got a Sophie la giraffe teether for A. He chewed it briefly, then very carefully reached for the cable of my phone charger and that went in his mouth instead.

SkiBunnnnny · 27/04/2013 17:44

Thanks Spotty, tbh I didn't really find anyone v helpful about breastfeeding while I was in there...

SpottyTeacakes · 27/04/2013 17:50

That's a shame ski. According to my app these are alternatives:

Levofloxacin, Nitrofurantoin, Norfloxacin, Trimethoprim

ISpyPlumPie · 27/04/2013 20:16

Well I wasn't able to resist the Baby Gap sale so we went to the Trafford Centre this afternoon. Spent more than I should Blush but managed to get a few nice things for both boys. Went to Giraffe for tea too - N definitely seemed to be eyeing up the food!

Ski - great news about coming home. Annoying that they've not been more helpful about meds/bf though.

WLmum · 27/04/2013 21:38

Thanks for your support today ladies, having had a little respite I am now back from the brink! DH got a couple of garden jobs done so I feel a bit better about that (how I long to have time to do some nice planty gardening) albeit while I took all 3 dds to town to buy dd1 a spring coat - mission failed, none to be found, tried h&m, next, bhs, debenhams and primark, last week tried m&s and tesco!

halestone · 27/04/2013 23:56

will not mention baby gap sale is online as well

Stacks sorry your having a shitty day, if it helps H screams and shouts at me but i think it could be developmental as shes only recently started doing it as much. Its like shes experimenting with her voice.

WL hope you manage to get some sleep tonight.

Seconds i find that i initially planned loads for my matleave but have come to the conclusion its never going to get done now.

Well tonight has been interesting, i tried H with some mushy peas. Lets just say she devoured them and kept pulling the spoon into her mouth quicker. Also and i can't believe i'm saying this i put her in her cot at 11, she woke at 11:35 and i brought her into my bed, gave her, her teddy's and she has just fell asleep. Just as i started typing this post out she fell asleep, not sure how long it will last but i havn't rocked her to sleep. Wow

halestone · 28/04/2013 00:00

I forgot to say i'm glad your coming out of hospital Ski Grin

Secondsop · 28/04/2013 01:09

Tried the banana test on z. He did manage to grasp it and put it in his open mouth! But didn't really know what to do with it apart from sort of squish it. He only managed one grasp. He'll be there soon enough though, I am sure!

Right, i'd better check out this baby gap online sale then.

SkiBunnnnny · 28/04/2013 03:27

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've been trying to pump every 3 hours today but am getting very little :( probably doesn't help that I'm not eating very much either. Probably won't be able to do much tomorrow with all the travelling but will get on the pumping and fenugreek etc and hopefully build supply back up by the time I'm safe to feed again.

Had a bit a weepy moment because he smells different on formula, is that weird?

PurplePidjin · 28/04/2013 03:36
Brew
SkiBunnnnny · 28/04/2013 03:40

Yes, stacks, I do sometimes feel like LO gets bored of my company. I'm scared when we get home he's going to be even worse as he's had so many people around him for the last week.

MaMaPo · 28/04/2013 05:13

2nd night feed. We were at a wedding so I've had a bit to drink. Can't work our if I'm tipsy or hungover. Either way, I know I'm exhausted!

Will catch up properly later when my eyes have uncrossed.

IsThatTrue · 28/04/2013 08:36

Sorry I've been missing, got engrossed in the 'cheeky friends' thread.

Yesterday was the first day DS has shown any interest in food. He watched us eating intently! I'm not pushing it though.

DS met his great aunt and uncle yesterday who are over from Sweden. They loved him and he was such a good boy all day! Not so much last night though Hmm

Urgh posted too soon:

Welcome to new people (forgot your name sorry)

Sorry to hear you've been poorly ski I hope your supply isn't affected and you can bf LO soon.

stacks I had pnd with ds1 and the midwives referred me to a top psychiatric hospital when I was pg with ds2 but as I was ok I just got a letter stating they knew about me and if I needed help in the future not to hesitate. So I suppose it just gave me a quick pass to the services. But I've had no problems this time. and they only knew about it as I told them, they didn't check my notes

I hope every one else and their babies are doing ok!

WLmum · 28/04/2013 08:45

ski not weird. I'd be sad too. I'm sure you will be able reestablish supply particular when he's feeding from you again but I guess it will take a bit if work. Re the fenugreek, you have to take quite a kit - until you smell of maple syrup! I took 3 tablets 3 times a day.

itsMYNutella · 28/04/2013 09:39

Hope you all have sunny weather like we do here!!

Ski please please try not to get too upset and stressed about your supply (it won't help) try to stay relaxed and if you can get your ABs changed - like spotty says so that you can feed again sooner and spend less time pumping. Grin

Most important is a healthy mummy!! Hope you feel better really soon! I've had keyhole surgery and it is a much faster recovery than fully opening you up; but sadly it still takes a while. Be kind to yourself, you're obviously a fantastic mother to care so much. X

DS had a cough all week that sadly got worse so we were back to the dr on Friday and now have a nebuliser for him. I think his cough is sounding looser and he slept a bit better last night so I really hope he gets better this week. He has been poorly for two weeks now - feels like an age.

FriendofDorothy · 28/04/2013 11:08

Also to improve your milk supply eat oats, porridge and stuff. Make sure you are eating enough in general. I found when I reduced my calories my milk supply reduced.

Secondsop · 28/04/2013 16:44

ski I've had keyhole surgery for an ovarian cyst and full cut-her-open surgery for appendicitis and it took me much less time to recover from keyhole as the incisions are so tiny; I never even found one of them as it was in a crease. So hopefully you'll be feeling better very soon.

halestone · 28/04/2013 18:50

I am loving weaning this morning i was crying with laughter at her. I had mashed up spaghetti hoops, she hated them. She pulled her face and when i tried again to see if she'd like them, she pursed her lips so i couldn't put the spoon in her mouth. She did it everytime i put the spoon anywhere near her hahaha Grin

WLmum · 28/04/2013 20:04

Bless her hales she certainly knows what she likes and doesn't - wonder if that'll be true for everything as she grows up! Watch out for stuff like spaghetti hoops and baked beans, they can have quite high salt and sugar levels. You can buy tiny pasta shapes and add a bit of puréed veg loosened with milk for sauce. I'm really looking forward to weaning but also sad as it'll be the end of an era. I am also looking forward to all the nights out DH owes me once she's off the boob!

halestone · 28/04/2013 21:47

We only have reduced salt everything due to my dad having kidney problems. I didn't think to check the sugar though, thank you Grin For tea she had mashed potatoes/garden peas, that was a huge success. I'm only giving her a tiny tiny amount, more so that she can try different flavours and so that i can gently teach her to associate the high chair with food time.
