Hi all thought i'd say a bit about DD and myself. She is nearly 12 weeks and is the most chilled baby you've ever met. She hardly cries - she shouts at you to get attention. She has the most infectious smile and thinks daddy's bed head in the morning is really funny!! She has her last feed at 8pm and then sleeps through til 6 - 7 am!!! wow I love sleeping!!!! She has just started sqealing at me, neighbour thought it was cats fighting ha ha ha!!!
DS loves her to bits, he's 4.5 and is always kissing her and trying to be 'helpful' but love him it's often more of a hinderance!!

PS Hockeymum, where abouts in Cardiff do you live?

hockeymum · 16/08/2006 19:53

Oh just realised its you tron from the meet up post! I live in Rhiwbina - Not far off Junction 32 of M4. Where are you?

tron · 17/08/2006 08:22

I'm in St Athan, used to live in Caerphilly til met hubby and we bought a house here

sniff · 18/08/2006 11:15

Sorry I dont post much either I think it is because most of us have more than one and because it summer hols as well still september will soon be upon is again unfortunatly

Grace is great now 11 pounds and she is 11 weeks old today I can t believe how quickly it is going

lillli · 20/08/2006 10:49

Hello everyone,
Can I join? i have 3 children, two boys aged 8 and 11 and DD who was born on the 29th May. I live in the wilds of North Lincolnshire and would love to talk babies - most people I know have children the same ages as DS1 and 2! DD is a little sweetie, very good natured, happy and smiley. She rarely cries, but grunts and shouts a lot! Looking forward to meeting some new people.

hockeymum · 21/08/2006 08:59

Hi Lillli, welcome! Wow, thats some age gap! Is it a shock to get back to baby stuff and bad nights after so long away from it all?

sniff · 21/08/2006 09:09

How did the christening go did it all go to plan

hockeymum · 21/08/2006 11:23

Thanks sniff, yes, was just logging on again to post about it now little man is having a nap.

It was a lovely day, it all went really well, he was so well behaved gurgling and smiling away at everyone, dd was fabulous too, she wanted to stand "on the stage" and say a prayer for him which was very cute. DS then slept for a couple of hours when we got home so we all got to eat together without holding a little one which was lovely. It was reasonably sunny too, so we all got to sit outside and chill out.

I'm really happy, having now dedicated my last ever child, I feel like we had a lovely day to celebrate him and enjoy his arrival (I was a bit too spaced out after the birth to enjoy the visitors so it was lovely to have another day where people wanted to see him).

Now, what shall I do with the huge platters of left over food and 6 cakes!!!

asur · 21/08/2006 13:16

Glad to hear everything went so well with the dedication Hockeymum

Am very jealous of all these babies that sleep so well, especially Tron's DD DS still won't go more than 3hrs without a feed! Guess it could be worse though (that's what I'm telling myself anyway!)

So, I took DS swimming on Friday... I was totally prepared to only be in the water for about 10-15mins but we were there for just over an hour and only got out coz DH and I were getting bored! DS LOVED it which is great Only thing is, he's now learnt the art of splashing which has made bathtime much more messy!

Snozcumber · 21/08/2006 18:41

Hiya lillli,
Your DD and mine share their b'day.
Your dedication sounds like a lovely thing to do hockeymom.
I need to share my excitement, have just booked a 2 1/2 week holiday in England to see all my family and friends who haven't met dd2 yet. Everybody is really eager to see her (and dd1 of course) it makes me feel great that she is special to that many people not just us!
Have also been looking at all the exciting things I can do with dd1 that are just not available where we live, so am going to take her to the zoo for the first time.

Ooh I'm so excited!

hockeymum · 21/08/2006 19:31

Where do you live Snozcumber? Sounds far away!

Snozcumber · 21/08/2006 22:13

Isle of Man, not too far away just feels it sometimes!
Only lived here 2 years so all my family and all my old friends live on the mainland.
Get to see friends in dribs and drabs, but you can never see enough of your friends especially with a little baby around.
Guess thats why I spend so much time lurking on here

lillli · 22/08/2006 10:27

It was a bit of a shock being pregnant - let alone the rest! Lovely though as we always wanted another baby. The biggest shock is the lack of freedom I think - can't just grab the children and run now, babies take more organisation. It is lovely though as DS1 and 2 were so involved in the pregnancy and are wonderful now she is here. There is no jealousy and they are so helpful.

The holiday sounds great Snozcumber. 29/5 is a good birthdate. (smile)

I haven't been brave enough to take DD swimming yet Asur - to be honest it is more the thought of taking 3 of them (although DS1 swims better then me, he will still want attention!) DD loves water though so I must brave it.

pamirka · 22/08/2006 13:55

Ooooooooooops... DD was born on 20th May, not the 6th as I said before! 6th was her EDD so she was clearly very happy inside having waited for 2 weeks! I avoided induction though; she came just as they were threatening it!

Hope you're all well.

sniff · 22/08/2006 21:24

hi lilli i have a boy of 8 and boy 2.8 and baby grace trouble is i only have 2 arms

hockeymum · 23/08/2006 15:18

Exciting couple of days with little Theo this week.

  1. He turned 4 months on Monday adn rolled over back to front and then front to back (he's been trying this for about a month but keeps getting his arm stuck - hes finally worked it out now!)

  2. He has 4 teeth all through today 2 side ones on top and 2 front ones at the bottom

  3. He started on his first foods yesterday, babyrice with formula (yummy) he seems to like it!

So, I've been quite enjoying myself keeping busy and having fun with my lovely boy.

sniff · 23/08/2006 18:09

wow he is keeping himself busy how was he with his teeth did they come through easily

is he enjoying the first taste of solids it reminds me I must go and buy all that weaning stuff again cant wait

and rolling over do you think this means he will be a quick mover and walk early grace is making no attempt just kicks about a lot

hockeymum · 23/08/2006 19:11

sniff - my friends with babies dont stop telling me how much of a slow roller he is! apparently theirs all did it at 3 months! he was 4 months on Monday. DD never rolled over (well, she did but only after she could shuffle around on her bottom - she never crawled but started walking just before her first birthday)

Teeth have been a bit of a pain in the backside for me (pain in the mouth for him) he has had fevers, tons of dribbling and lots of gnawing on his hand and bottle and screaming) still, only another 16 teeth to go (help me!!). Also, he has started to get really startled by loud noises (usually ones his sister and her friends make!) and he gets really upset!

Other than that he is a dream baby, so happy and cute and gorgeous. I want him to stay this way forever (minus the teething obviously)! my last baby (SOB)

squidgeymiller · 23/08/2006 22:40

ok, sorry I haven't been on for ages, been v busy with dd and dh having been in hospital for a knee op.

DD will be 15 wks on Saturday and hasn't rolled / got any teeth yet - I didn't think she was behind until I read your post Hockeymum (don't take that the wrong way !)

She's been very dribbly with loads of lumpy sick for the last few weeks so HV says she's definitely teething, but no sign of any teeth coming through yet. My best friends have a 6 mnth old who has no teeth yet so thought it was OK that no teeth had come through, but now I'm worried if Theo has 4 (!)

She isn't rolling over yet but if I help her roll onto her side she'll roll herself back (not sure if that counts!). However, if I give her my fingers to hold onto she'll pull herself up from lying to standing and stand up on her own (obviously clinging onto my fingers but not really getting much support from them). I don't let her do this for long, but it's difficult to stop her from standing as she'll pretty much stand as much as she can - if I'm sitting down and burping her she'll put her feet down and stand on my lap and push herself off from my chest. I know there's the old wives tale that says it makes babies bowlegged, but apparently recent research says this is not the case, so I'm not too worried, although still not letting her do it too much, just in case! She's also shuffling herself up her changing table on her back, which is amusing to watch but doesn't get her anywhere fast (makes changing her nappy fun though if she manages to get her foot down on her clean nappy, coz she can send it shooting off the end of the table from underneath her!!).

Am really worried that she's behind developmentally now (sorry, haven't had / got time to read all the posts that I've missed since I was last on, so apologies if anybody else is at the same stage / said this already)

Sorry it's a long post, and probably not v coherent!

squidgeymiller · 23/08/2006 23:08

sorry, just read a bit more of the thread....

one of the most wonderful things about DD is when I smile at her and tell her how clever / beautiful (etc) she is, she holds her hands in front of her and does a full body coy grin (she kind of puts her head to one side and shrugs like a shy schoolgirl).

Also that she just lies in the bath completely relaxed, only supported by her head in my hand, her body completely under the water and just gazes at me with a smile on her face.

She just constantly melts my heart!

hockeymum · 24/08/2006 08:34

squidgymiller - she sounds gorgeous! like a proper girlygirl!

With the rolling, I only meant it as all my friends were going on about how forward their babies were rolling and that they didnt think Theo was early (when I bragged to them about it) obv. I think Theo is early because dd never bothered doing it at all and it didnt stop her being gorgeous! I dont think there is any definite age for rolling over though, its not a milestone or anything.

Theo doesnt really do the feet thing so much, pushing himself up etc. DD did that instead. I think they are just all different and do things at different ages, there are no medals to be won for say, like my friends dd rolling at 2 1/2 months and walking at 9 months! it doesnt make her a better baby, it just makes it harder sooner for her mum to look after her! I actively dont want Theo to crawl early because I'll have to babyproof the house sooner! with dd I was desperate she did things as early as possible as I thought it might reflect well on me. That was so silly of me because they are all different and all gorgeous. Yes, Theo has 4 teeth but he's not any better than his cousin who was still teethless with a big gorgeous gummy grin at 14 months! teeth are just a physical growth thing, they have no super powers (sadly - that would be fun). Hope I didnt come across braggy, it was just an interesting week when he did things new. He'll probably be horrendously late with something else like talking and it'll be me asking worried questions on here!

Oh and no hurry with the teeth babies, every old lady or elderly relative that asks about teeth and hears he has them now says "oh, some children are early, they're meant to be the difficult ones, did you know adolf Hitler was born with teeth" I mean, what do they think my gorgeous ds is - a monster! The thing I'm learning most quickly about motherhood is that no matter when your child does things, a whole group of people will say its too early or too late or it means this or it means that. You will never be allowed to be just right!

And the just right time to do things is when your baby does them - ignore ages and ignore everyone elses comments (oh and remind me of that next time I come on here all upset by something)

squidgeymiller · 24/08/2006 10:25

Hi Hockeymum - didn't mean it to sound like that! No you didn't sound braggy at all. I was just more shocked than anything as I hadn't even considered that she might be behind until I read your post. I know she'll do all these things when she's ready, and I know she's developing all the time (ie the standing thing) so I'm really not worried.
Didn't mean that you'd panicked me or anything .

How are you feeding Theo? Are you still BF and if so, how are you getting on with the teeth?

Imafairy · 24/08/2006 11:25

Squidgy - DS2 is fourteen weeks today, has no interest in rolling, no sign of any teeth, and is doing lots of spewing everywhere too!!! He's a very social baby, which is great because he gives out lots of smiles, however it does mean that he craves company all the time, and yells as soon as he can't see someone.
Have just remembered that this time 14 weeks ago DS1 was off nursery with chickenpox, and I was trying to hide the fact that I was in labour from him!!!!

hockeymum · 24/08/2006 11:56

wow I'mafairy - I had no idea ds had chickenpox when you were in labour! what a handful. Isnt it good that time passes and you forget these things!

Squidgymiller - not bfeeding. My milk never came in with Theo (not sure if this was due to the elective section or the illness whilst I was pregnant) but it never happened so he is bottle fed. But I did breastfeed dd until she was 16 months (just morning and night at that age, but it suddenly gets easier so i carried on till that age) and she had loads of teeth by then. I really didnt find it a problem with bfeeding because they dont use their teeth iykwim. When she was cutting a tooth she very occasionally used to bite a little bit but was so shocked when I shouted at her she didnt do it again!

Imafairy · 24/08/2006 13:23

ooh yes Hockeymum, it was definitely very 'interesting'. Bless him, DS kept walking around after me saying things like "why are you having a bath mummy? is it bedtime?" and when I was doing some panting said "are you going to sneeze". Thank the lord for Playhouse Disney and Bob The Builder DVDs I say!!!!!!
It also meant my two DSs didn't meet till DS2 was about 4 days old as we were worried about infection! Ah well, at least I'll never forget that he had the pox!!!
