Hi there,

thanks for the weights info.. it's funny how all babies have growth spurts at different times but then again, I guess all babies are different in every way, just the books make it seem like they'll do everything to schedule

as for my weight - ARGH! I don't know what I weighed before I had him, I'm just going by my clothes and at the moment, I only have a few things that fit me... Keep just wearing the same outfits and am avoiding mirrors like the plague! and this heat is madness - I am feeling sorry for women who are due July babies - must be nightmare!

Oh, Mummyplonk, thanks for your info. Got DS booked in with cranial osteopath on wednesday so fingers crossed it helps him

Asur · 03/07/2006 16:32

Me again, forgot to answer mummyplonk's question about routine... We're into a vague routine. DS feeds about every 3hrs which is good. He is fab during the night though, he sleeps from about 9/10pm till 2/3am which is great - gives me a nice stretch of sleep. As for bathing, I had hoped to get that into the bedtime routine but it's just a case of when I can be bothered as he doesn't enjoy it as much as I thought he would. Have discovered he LOVES having a shower with DH - looks very cute

SAHMof1 · 04/07/2006 14:33

Lovecloud I know what you mean about feeling fat. I walked past the local pub the other day on the way to the shops, DS was at home with DH, so I was alone, and someone sitting outside the pub in the beer garden started shouting at me ?I see you baby, shaking that ass?. There was no-one else around except me, him and his mates. I felt so humiliated and hurt, but I carried on, got my shopping and walked calmly home back passed them. DH just said ?they?re morons? and ?you're gorgeous? and other nice platitudes, but it really didn?t make me feel any better! So I ate a bar of chocolate and some biscuits, and made myself feel guilty too! I love my baby, but hate myself at the mo.

Mummyplonk we don?t really have a routine in the day-time. DS feeds rather irregularly, and sometimes sleeps in the morning and is active in the afternoon, and sometimes visa versa. But nights are more settled. He will feed at around 11pm/12am, sleep until around 4am, and then sleep until around 7/8am.

SAHMof1 · 04/07/2006 14:35

Ooopps - should read ?walked calmly home back past? not ?passed?!

nikki48023506 · 04/07/2006 18:50

we are just about settling into a routine now. As DD loves her bath, I try to bath her at the same time every night (9pm works for us as DS has gone to bed and is well settled by then). she always has her last feed just after then and tends to drop off with persuasion by 10pm. She sleeps then until at least 5 and feeds again, usually waking in the morning between 7 and 8. I try to put her down for a big sleep in the morning and work her feeds round that. I don't remember feeling this relaxed or organised with DS - I'm not sure if this was because he was more unsettled or I was!

I know every one tells you not to rock baby to sleep, but this is the only way I can get her off. Does anyone have any tips as to how to get her to sleep otherwise? It is only when I am trying to get her to sleep for bedtime that I have the difficulty - she goes back to sleep on her own after early morning feed. Any suggetions please?!!!

thebecster · 05/07/2006 17:50

DEFINITELY agreed on the 'feeling fat' thing - I've lost loads of weight in the past 3 weeks but I'm still 2 stone over my usual weight and I hate it, hate it, hate it. I have nothing to wear but refuse to spend too much money on 'fat' clothes so am buying cheap & nasty stuff which doesn't improve morale much.

We have no routine . But Oliver is a bit young - just 3 and a half weeks. Does that let me off the hook? He feeds hourly during the day and three hourly at night. He does usually have a nap around lunchtime. And we always give him his bath at 10pm with dimmed lights etc. Maybe there's the beginnings of a routine there...

Speaking of birthweights... I need to rant about this - apologies in advance for a long post! I had a real battle with the community midwife. She wouldn't discharge Oliver to the baby clinic 'cos she said he hadn't regained his birthweight and might be 'failure to thrive'. PAH! I could tell he was heavier just by picking him up and he's definitely thriving. She kept saying I should put him on formula. Eventually after two weeks her wonky scales agreed with me that he was at his birthweight and we got discharged. She asked if I had put him on formula and I said no - she said 'I knew you wouldn't, you're that type' Huh??? I didn't dignify that comment with a response! Anyway I took him to the baby clinic last week and he was a full POUND over his birthweight according to their scales. So had he gained a full pound in three days? I think not. Silly moo and her silly wonky scales. Hmph. Rant over

Hope all's well with you all & your little ones!

Mandymoo · 06/07/2006 13:13

Thebecster - and at your midwife's comment - what a cheek! Glad Oliver is doing so well and good for you for standing your ground!!

Imafairy · 06/07/2006 14:56

Hi ladies - haven't been on this thread much since DS2 was born...........
Just had the HV around to do a PND 'test' - she started talking to me about it and I just burst into tears - I really don't think I'm depressed, just still hormonal and tired (and fed up with being fat) but she was trying to convince me I was. She's gone now but I had to come onto here for some sanity!
Thebecster I am totally with you on the buying cheap nasty clothes - I thought that May was a great time to have a baby, but in hindsight I reckon we should have tried for March, to give me a few months to shed the pounds before exposing my flesh to the masses. I have managed to fit into a couple of pairs of trousers and a few skirts, but my stomach is still horrendous, so I've had to buy lots of cheap 'fat' tops. And I don't know quite how it's happening, but I swear that I am getting new fat on my sides and across my back (caught a glimpse of myself from behind in a changing room mirror today - not an attractive sight....)
We have a bit of a routine going - DS2 goes to bed at about 7, we wake him at 11 for a feed, and he's managing to sleep till 6-ish. Daytime is pretty much tied in around his feeds, so it's not too bad all in all (thanks to the help of "She who cannot be named"!!! )
DH is away tonight so I am having my first full night on my own with the two boys - fingers crossed they both sleep!!!

Asur · 07/07/2006 11:16

nikki - we have to rock DS to sleep also. He really doesn't seem to like sleeping so we really have to force it. We tried putting him in his crib and letting him fall asleep himself but he could literally cry for hours and still stay awake... We're just sticking with the rocking and hoping that he will gradually get the hang of sleeping when he's older (fingers crossed!)

Did you actually do that PND test thing, Imafairy? I wouldn't trust it, I reckon you know yourself if you are feeling depressed or if it is just hormones/lack of sleep. I may be cynical but I think HV's get a bonus or something if they diagnose PND - they seem desperate to find it. I personally don't see a HV (she came once and I said she shouldn't bother again) but from other people's experiences, it seems that's all they look for. I am very cynical of the medical profession though

So, my sister babysat on Wednesday night - she thought it would be nice for DH and myself to go out for the evening as it's both our birthdays plus our 1st anniversary this week. We went to the cinema, had a meal then we couldn't think of anything else to do. We ended up going to Sainsbury's! It's been so long since we've had time out together that we couldn't remember what we used to do! Very sad but I have to say I did enjoy going around a supermarket without rushing home to feed a baby!

louismummy · 07/07/2006 15:32

the only problem at buying cheap clothes is that sometimes they can look worse.. i have put on weight since about 3 weeks... too many cream teas mmmmm.
ds1 is going well, had scan results he doen't need chemo, so thats a relief. has to go for weekly blood tests to check his tumour markers keep dropping. have a lovely weekend everyone

angelsfield · 07/07/2006 23:19

Hi, I wondered whether I could join your thread? My dd was due in May but was born 12 weeks early on Feb 2nd. She's doing really well, thank God! So she's 5 months now but should only be about 8/9 weeks. Would love to chat (when I get a chance! ) Plus it would be reassuring to see what babies are up to that arrived around the time she was due!

sniff · 08/07/2006 14:50

Hi all sorry its taken me so long to post its all go this end Grace is feeding constantly still and bringing most of it back!! I am going to se Dr on Monday about baby gaiscon she has started smiling a bit though

the boys have taken to her well but i must admit to feeling a bit sad fr them because I seem to have Grace all the time and no time to play with them so I have booked DS2 a place at a nursery for 1 afternoon a week so he gets chance to play to

Hope everyone is doing well will start to read to catch up now

dizzybint · 08/07/2006 16:28

Can i join too? i've been a lurker on this site for months now, got loads of useful info so thought i'd better start sharing too. dd was born may 22nd so she's 7 weeks on monday. dh had 6 weeks paternity leave which was flippin marvellous. i've just come to the end of my first 'alone' week and it went really well. i'm breastfeeding and it's just fantastic, she was born 8lb 14oz and 2 weeks ago was 11 lb 3oz. can't wait for her to weighed again on tuesday.

CMac · 09/07/2006 21:45

Hi all - was wondering if any of your little ones eyes have changed colour yet, and if so when did it happen? DS still has blue eyes but they're pretty dark and i'm sure they're going to go brown. He's 6 weeks already and I'd thought it would have happened by now.

dizzybint · 10/07/2006 19:40

my hv said it can take a year or even longer.

Mandymoo · 12/07/2006 21:51

hello!

Cant believe Tom is almost 10 weeks old! He's doing well, is 13 lbs, has had first jabs and is feedig well.

Doesnt seem to like sleeping in the day much but sleeps from 7pm - midnight then wakes once or twice for feeds in the night but goes straight back to sleep.

He is smiling lots - that first smile he gives me when he wakes in the morning makes my heart melt!

DD is a brilliant big sister and is so good with him - feel very warm inside when i see the two of them together although i know that will all change when he starts getting in her way!

Had my check last week and my BP is high - havent had it checked since having Tom so not sure if its been consistently high or whether it was me just rushing about on the day. Have to see GP again next week and have another test. It was 140/98.

Anyway, hope all you guys are well and will catch up with your news again soon XX

tron · 13/07/2006 18:24

Can I join, Erin was born 27th May 12 days late and has been laid back ever since. Is baby number 2, Ewan is 4.5

Asur · 13/07/2006 18:30

Hamish got his first jabs yesterday also. He was really good even though it meant seeing the HV again - that woman really irritates me, she actually tried to convince me to get him weighed as otherwise I "wouldn't know if he's putting on weight and is healthy" Apparently the fact that he's growing out of his clothes and perfectly happy aren't good indicators of that! Sorry for rant but she really annoys me. Apparently next jabs are done by nurse so I won't need to see her again

He is doing really well though - he got his first tooth last week! I've said for 2 weeks that he was teething and no-one believed but now they do! It's weird though, it's his canine that's appeared, I always thought it was the front ones that came in first.. Maybe he just likes being different

So had a serious conversation with DH last night about when to have next baby... I'm not broody but kinda feel it would be best to have another baby while we're still in baby mode and still have all the stuff - am I mad?! I'm not thinking about TTC now, we were speaking about just stopping contraception when DS is about 6months... Now I'm writing this I think I am mad. Is it just hormones?

Asur · 13/07/2006 18:32

congrats on Erin, Tron. (your post only appeared after I posted mine!)

littleducks · 13/07/2006 19:18

Can i join please? i had a baby girl Aliyah on 11th of May but am new to mumsnet.

WinkyGirl · 13/07/2006 20:37

Asur - we are the same! We cannot wait to have a second baby but my doctor has recommended that I wait until DD is six months and then we'll start trying. My brother and I were only 19 months apart and are really close. I know a short gap doesnt guarantee they will be close but hopefully it will help!
I'm quite surprised I feel like this because I had a bad labour experience and terrible hormones post birth...But DD is fairly easy apart from screaming most of the evening with colic.

sniff · 15/07/2006 05:37

Hi all Grace is six weeks old and we are finally in a routine and she is still amazing!!!

Mandymoo DD doesnt sleep in the the day much either but it has been really hot so she has been feeding a lot

Hockeymom how are you feeling is your hip better now I cant believe she thinks its your fault I hope things have been resolved there

Its great to come on here and read about all the babies I will post more now I am more organised I promise

Asur · 15/07/2006 17:38

thanks WinkyGirl - glad it's not just me... I had a pretty bad labour too; I'm starting to wonder if that's why I want another baby - might be a better experience and make me forget the bad one... Who knows, maybe I am just broody

Is anybody else having problems dressing their lo's in this heat? I have all these adorable little outfits that I really want to put DS in but it's so hot that most of the time, he ends up just wearing a vest in the house and a little rompersuit when we go out... think i'll be putting a lot of "never worn" outfits on ebay

gypsykream · 16/07/2006 16:56

Hello to you all. Is it ok if I finally get my act together and join, my DS was born on 17th May, first baby, and just loving every minute! I too am thinking about another baby.....I did think I was the only wierd person out there...it's good to know I am not alone

Clothes - nightmare I too have loads of lovely outfits and am miffed about weather as I can't put him in them.....maybe for the next one??!!

louismummy · 16/07/2006 21:08

or take them back and swap them for the next size, most shops do this i had to for loads of ds clothes because he had grown out of them before i recieved them! hth
