Hi everyone, things have been a bit hectic since ds was born, so there has been little time to post - 2 days out of hospital and dd developed chicken pox, and by the time she recovered, ds had it - a very long saga, but in short at 18 days old it meant we had to spend the week in hospital whilst he was given antibiotics etc by way of IV - not a happy experience. But he seems fine now, and we were the ward's interesting case of the week as apparently it is very rare for babies so young to have it...

squidgeymiller · 07/06/2006 16:06

Nightmare Crumpet - hope all is OK now with both kids?

I'm enjoying a bit of peace and quiet today as DD was feeding almost constantly yesterday (I mean every half hour ALL DAY) and then wouldn't sleep because of the heat (caused a bit of panic as she went a bit floppy, but HV says everything is fine). The good news is that she's very sleepy today - think she must still be digesting the HUGE amount of milk she had yesterday! Grin

Will wake her for a feed in a bit as it has been a long time now and she does sleep a lot at night, but am just enjoying having 5 mins to myself at the mo - I know, very selfish!!

Hope all are OK and coping with the heat - it is lovely but has knackered me!
x

excellent hockeymum regards waterbabies, louis just loves it. ollie starts his course on 26 june can't wait. ps you will swim him underwater at the first go!!! just keep smiling at him it will be great.

WinkyGirl · 08/06/2006 07:52

SAHMof1 and Mandymoo - thanks for encouragement. Still feeling very low and anxious most of the day. DD is 12 days old now. Am really hoping the feeling will pass soon. Dr and Midwife being supportive and am on Sepia (homeopathic rememdy) but finding life hard. Keep wanting to run back to hospital!
Did a thread on the depression page and had lots of lovely advice.
DD is lovely and doing fine despite her Mum being a mess. I just want to feel better and really enjoy her...

helsi · 08/06/2006 08:08

Morning all,

Well Charlotte is doing fine. She is now 5 weeks old and weighs 10lb 6oz. She was 8lb 13oz at birth!! She is always eating and has been on hingrier baby milk for 2 weeks.

hockeymum · 08/06/2006 20:11

louismummy and SAHMof1 (sorry keep wanting to type AbiGilby) yes it is the waterbabies course. We went today and he absolutely loved every minute. It was in a really warm hydro pool which helped (body temp). He smiled a lot and cooed all the time, neither of which he has done much of yet. He wasnt too happy about the swimming underwater business, he had the funniest look on his face and kept spitting, but he didnt cry and chilled out again straight away.

We had lots of fun and I'd recommend it to anyone.

I'm finding it much easier to be in a routine now, taking dd to nursery school with theo in the pushchair and I feel much more in control now. It really does get better after the 6 week mark!

Hope you are all getting on well and not finding your little ones too grumpy in this heat!

SAHMof1 · 12/06/2006 09:32

My DS is soooo not coping with the heat. He has been really grizzly for the last three days. Isn’t it just far too hot? He’s been just lying in his nappy and feeding every hour, just for comfort I suspect. Thankfully today is cooler, but this summer’s going to be a scorcher, isn’t it?

squidgeymiller · 12/06/2006 13:52

DD has also been knocked for 6 by the weather the last few days. I've ended up buying a clip fan to attach to her pram for when we're out - as she completely flakes out otherwise!

Well, today is my first day completely alone with DD (I've been really lucky - DH had 2 weeks off work, then my Mum came for a week, DH took the next Monday off as I was sick all night Sunday and then he was ill for 2 days, taking us to Wednesday, when my sister arrived!! Smile) and I'm coping pretty well. Was dressed by 8.30 and had even managed to get breakfast by 10!!! Shock

DD is asleep at the moment and I've managed to get most things I need to done (including having lunch - which is a shocker, usually she wakes up as soon as the first morsel of food gets within inches of my mouth!!)

I know I really should be able to do all this stuff already, considering she is 4 weeks old, but I have been spoiled and therefore still feel pretty smug with myself. I may even reward myself with an ice cream and then a snooze on the sofa!!

Scrub that - she's beginning to wake up - she must have sensed the ice cream!

louismummy · 12/06/2006 14:58

sm don't you just hate that. when your starving about to eat and they wake up....

squidgeymiller · 12/06/2006 16:10

I know, nightmare!! and hv says most important thing is diet and rest - what a laugh!!!

Asur · 13/06/2006 09:28

Hi ladies,

I haven't had a chance to post for ages as DS is a bit of a handful (to put it nicely) I've managed to kinda keep up to date with reading all your posts though (he lets me read then usually shouts when I try to write anything...)

I have to laugh about the eating thing though - how do they know when we're about to eat?! Very strange... My HV asked me if I was eating 3 full meals a day - yeah, right!! I don't actually think I managed that before having him nevermind now! I kindly told her she didn't need to come back; she'll just annoy me asking stupid questions like that! :)

Well, DS is sleeping in his pram so I think I'll take the chance to go to the shops with him, when he's awake he just screams when shopping - typical bloke! Grin

thebecster · 14/06/2006 18:21

FINALLY! I can join you on this thread - thought I'd never get here!! Oliver was born on 8th June at 3:48am, weighing 7lb 9oz. I stayed in hospital until Monday and haven't managed to go on the net until today. TBH the idea of sitting on a chair at the computer didn't appeal (5 tears, one of them a deep 3rd degree - ouch!)
The labour was super-quick - within 4 hours of arriving at hospital I had got my little bundle of joy. I had a waterbirth, which was wonderful. I didn't actually need any pain relief for the birth... But used about 10 tanks of gas&air for the stitches Grin I'm feeling really good, it's just so nice not to be sick any more, and even though I wake every 3 hours or so for feeds, I'm getting loads more sleep than I did when I was pregnant.

It's good to see that you're all doing so well. Totally agree on the 'baby brain' - I couldn't remember my own home phone number today, had to ask my husband... Must go, dinner's ready.

louismummy · 14/06/2006 18:48

congrats becster.... love the name btw!!! take it easy...

squidgeymiller · 15/06/2006 12:45

Wow, glad you finally made it becster!

sniff · 16/06/2006 16:07

Hi all its nicew to catch up on the babies Grace is lovely but feeding all the time we are still not in any kind of routine yet but she is only two weeks old so I suppose we will get there of back home tommorrow to visit my mom so she gets a long ride in the car hope she makes it and we dont have to feed at the services!!!

hockeymum · 17/06/2006 06:55

Oh TheBecster, I'm so glad he's finally here and stopped making you feel so sick!!! I've been posting on the antenatal thread for you so you didn't feel lonely! Congratulations! and Welcome to the postnatal thread at last. Isn't it great not to be sick anymore?!!

Asur · 17/06/2006 20:40

Congrats to TheBecster. Does that mean everyone has now moved to this thread or is there anyone still holding their May babies in?

SAHMof1 I kinda laughed a little when I read about you melting plastic when sterilising on the hob but I have just done the exact same thing! I can't believe it - added 'new pot' to my shopping list for tomorrow! I guess I can't blame babybrain though as I remember doing something similar a few years ago! Just have a mind like a sieve! Blush Might add 'extra-loud timer' to the list too!

I have to ask, is anybody else realising that a shower is a total luxury? DH was has been off work for the last couple of days and I've managed a full shower every morning and I've realised how much I took them for granted before DS arrived! Might just be me being totally disorganised with baby though! :) I still don't really feel like I've got a routine and DS is 5weeks old today - is this normal?

thebecster · 18/06/2006 18:08

Showers are DEFINITELY a luxury - our boiler has packed in today Angry - talk about your perfect timing! At least we don't need heating in this weather, but hot water would be good...

Thanks for the welcome - it's so good to 'see' you all again. And hockeymum, you're so right, it's just amazing not to feel sick any more - I keep cleaning my teeth just because I can finally clean them without throwing up, and it seems like such a luxury! I didn't appreciate these little things...

PS Louismummy - ditto :) !

louismummy · 18/06/2006 20:21

can everyone send some positive vibes for my ds1 who is having his testicle removed tomorrow at jimmy's, because it is cancerous.

WinkyGirl · 18/06/2006 20:50

louismummy will be thinking of you and your family tomorrow

Hope it goes well

Winkygirl xx

sniff · 20/06/2006 18:56

louismummy sending all my love and positive vibes for your little boy I hope he is out of hospital very soon x x x

squidgeymiller · 20/06/2006 21:31

Hope everything went well for your DS1 Louismummy and that the recovery is quick!

Asur - yes I know exactly what you mean about a shower being a luxury - my hair is permanently tied back and I feel bad for asking DH to keep an eye on DD while I grab a quick shower at the weekends. Am having to have a VERY QUIET bath when DD is asleep during the week (when I don't fall asleep as soon as she's in bed!) to stop me from smelling like an old badger!

What does everyone think about bottle vs breastfeeding? I'm still solely breastfeeding DD and was planning to do so for quite a while, but I'm coming up against friends and family who tell me not to be so silly and that I have to have a life as well, and that I should at least express so that she can also be bottle fed. This is all coming up because of a birthday party we've been invited to - DD will be nearly 7 weeks and everyone says I'm being stupid for saying that me being able to go will depend on DD.

This is my first child and I'm trying to do everything right. I know expressing is fine and I have got a pump etc, but when is a good time to start trying to give her a bottle? I've read various books and the opinions vary.

Please, please give me your thoughts (or at least ammo against my friends and family who think I'm being daft!).

Thanks Blush x

louismummy · 21/06/2006 08:50

thanks everyone surgery went well.
as regards reeding, you need to do what is right for you. last time i expresssed and ds took to the bottle well i got complacent and didn't for a week or 2 around 8-10 weeks then he wouldn't when i wanted to start weening at20 weeks but after about 3-4 days he started to take a bottle.hth
