Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
HoneyMumandSon · 02/04/2013 16:30

Thanks everyone- I think because he isn't usually sicky at all whenever he is I panic!

PurplePidjin · 02/04/2013 16:43

Nutella, adjust the waist band first to set the height. You should be taking a lot of the weight on your hips. Then put him in and sling the straps across your shoulders and plug them into opposite sides - left shoulder to right boob and vice versa - and pull really tight :)

itsMYNutella · 02/04/2013 16:48

Thanks Honey, Spotty & Pidj*! I hadn't thought about crossing the straps but that's a really good idea!
I also hadn't thought of checking YouTube Grin

itsMYNutella · 02/04/2013 16:51

Hahaha. Just seen my auto correct changed sicky to sucky Grin. DS is definitely a sucky baby Wink he really loves breakfast/elevenses/lunch/afternoon tea/dinner/ supper etc etc etc

itsMYNutella · 02/04/2013 16:53

Since we haven't chosen what to invest in yet, the other option is an emeibaby see here DP quite likes the look of that one

SpottyTeacakes · 02/04/2013 17:00

I told dp I'd mash the potatoes for my fish cakes but he did it anyway and added butter now the mash is too loose and they won't shape/stay together. So I'm upstairs crying feeding ds HmmSad

SpottyTeacakes · 02/04/2013 17:03

I think I prefer the look of the Manduca nutella

MyDaydream · 02/04/2013 17:21

Spotty that sucks he's ruined your mash. DP doesn't help in the kitchen because whenever he steps foot in there it results in me cooking my own food because he messed up, or me catching him just before the ruining moment and asking what he's doing. Much easier (and cleaner) to ban him from entering.
We switched E to SMA comfort milk and it seems to have turned his poo into a British racing green colour. It doesn't seem to be bothering him and he's a lot happier after food.

Barbeasty · 02/04/2013 18:09

Nutella I think you can put the waist belt bit a lot higher than you'd think too. I've seen someone suggest that it can go almost under the ribs. I really liked it when I tried it, especially the crossed straps, but I managed to get a barely used Boba for less.

Also can't remember how they work for newborns. Would that put the baby up any higher?

interwebmum · 02/04/2013 18:54

Hello ladies,
I haven't been on to have a look for a while. I hope you don't mind me popping in for a quick question.

At 3 months A was gurgling and making cute little cooing noises. she was also very smiley. Now at almost 4 months she is making a weird gutteral grunting/growley noise and thrashing about alot. She's seems to get bored and frustrated really quickly and I'm constantly having to think up new ways to entertain her. It's really doing my head in! Is this normal?? She spends the majority of her waking time drooling, trashing, wriggling and growling! Help!

SpottyTeacakes · 02/04/2013 18:56

Sorry interweb but I think the next few posts are going to read 'yep same here!'. I think they are frustrated because they want to be able to do things that they can't.

interwebmum · 02/04/2013 19:26

No, that's made me feel better actually. I've got very little experience with babies (until having my own) and nobody around to compare with so I tend to get stressed out more than I probably need to. It's just really exhausting trying to change her nappy, get her dressed or have a cuddle when she's constantly wriggling and making that bloody noise! Gah! She's like a mini wrestler with attitude. Confused

halestone · 02/04/2013 19:42

Honey H is sick after formula thinks it because they take too much for their bellies too handle.

Spotty i hope your ok i know its probably too late but could u add plain flour to the mash to soak up the butter? Or a mustard powder?

Interweb same here and i think our LO's were born on the same day (7th??) my DD bangs her feet with such a force on the floor that i'm sure it must hurt. I've resorted to putting my quilt folded up on the floor downstairs with loads of toys around her and she grabs them plays with it throws it out of her reach and gets the next nearest one to her and repeat haha Grin

Nutella sorry i can't help with the carrier i have no clue but i've been thinking about getting one so read what you wrote with interest.

MaMaPo · 02/04/2013 20:12

Interweb yep, same here! C is really quick to boredom and frustration, she doesn't want whatever she has, whether it's her playmat, standing up, over my shoulder, some toys, lying on her front - they all seem to infuriate her. She's constantly trying to roll over and getting very frustrated. Thankfully she spent most of today asleep - sounds terrible, but it was nicer than trying to constantly reinvent the wheel to keep her happy!

Nutella, we have the Ergobaby carrier which is similar to the manduca. Been using it since C was about 5 days old and it has been fantastic. It has grown well with her and we anticipate being able to use it for ages yet. It fits me and my husband well (he's 6 foot 3) and we can both carry her for ages without getting sore or tired. I really recommend it.

Man I'm exhausted tonight. Husband's been out for a haircut (yay! Only been 4 months) and is bringing home Chinese. So lazy.

Clarella · 02/04/2013 20:15

interweb - yep ;)

with reference to last night's do we feed these 2 hourly wakings - at my nct gathering mum's reported similar (bf and ff) and the consensus was that they probably need the calories so yes go with the flow if you can cope! which leads to cosleeping - bf is usually more successful for cosleeping mums simply as they get more sleep. however thats a personal choice and a sids thing.

a mum who knows a neonatal specialist said they often recommend that boys are weaned between 4- 6 mo as often need the calories more, despite who guidelines. I feel like g is literally sucking the life out of me (esp with new tongue!) at moment! I've lost another inch on my hips in a week, even with all the Easter pigging out!

found a lovely timeline of bf actually - will post - u loose most weight between 4-6 months :) excuse to eat more!! (healthy stuff of course ;) )

interwebmum · 02/04/2013 20:29

Ahh, bless you kind ladies. We are normal again, hurray.
Halestone, yep 7th December too.

PurplePidjin · 02/04/2013 20:48

I always feed at night, it never occurred to me not to. If he doesn't latch, he gets plonked back in his crib - he soon changes his mind!

That said, he's been chomping on my finger when i do the calgel so i shoved a dummy in and instant calm - first time he's taken one. He just settled himself on my chest, and successful transfer to crib we shall see what happens when he wakes up...

MaMaPo · 02/04/2013 21:04

I've only not fed at night once or twice, when she fed loads in the day and resettled with patting/dummy. Her feeding is so erratic at the moment that I'll keep feeding her up at night.

FriendofDorothy · 02/04/2013 21:16

I always feed at night if he wakes up.

We have a Connecta carrier. Fantastic to use, easy to put on and fits both me and my husband.

ISpyPlumPie · 02/04/2013 21:28

Hi everyone. Back from the wedding now and just catching up.
N was a dream the whole time. Despite still furiously hand-chewing, he slept through both journeys and most of the service! The rest of the time he loved all of the attention he was getting - he does seem to be a generally happy little soul.

Barbeasty - thanks for the belly button tips. We've not got a topical ab, so will ask the doctor about it on Friday (earliest appt available from today - they must have got rid of the target for appt waiting times Hmm). It does seem much better again, but I just want to see if we can prevent it happening in future.

Mydaydream - that does sound spectacularly unhelpful. You'd like to think a service offering support doesn't actually create more problems. I really hope it can be sorted for you.

Mama - your trip sounds fantastic - am quite Envy. Looking back, I do wish I'd travelled a bit more before I had any real commitments but at the time I was focused on studying and starting a career. Still, having lots of fun planning the adventures we can have exploring the world with the boys (just need to work out how to pay for it Grin).

itsMYNutella · 02/04/2013 21:55

T has been a bit unsettled today but hasn't been sucking his fist as much as he has the last few days Hmm I don't think we're teething... But it's great to have you all here and be able to read your tips!

Thanks everyone for the carrier tips! I have to give the Manduca back tomorrow but will try all the advice suggested before I hand it over.
There are several brands here that are popular and I see them often. You can also get an ergo but they don't seem as common... The prices are all similar too so that isn't a major factor in the decision.
What bothers me about the manduca is that his legs are not long enough for it yet and he doesn't seem very cosy in it, there is an extra sort of flap that you button small babies into but he ends up sitting a bit funny in it...

Before I forget - I came across the emeibaby while buying a jacket insert at the same shop. It is a small new business startup and I'm really impressed with the product. I bought a waterproof jacket insert that zips into my jacket so i can carry DS all cosy and out of the wind. We also bought a zip adaptor for DP's jacket so we can use the same insert for either jacket; it is such a great and simple system! I know you can make a jacket insert yourself (if you have the skills and a sewing machine) but I'm not that practical. I promised the man I would recommend his product (Kumja is their business/product name) on here :)

EggsMichelle · 03/04/2013 03:13

Nutella I love the idea of that jacket insert, could have done with one during this epic snow.

F was born 6th and has the same frustration and boredom. And this sleep regression is doing my head in, awake every hour, and now he won't go back to sleep. I haven't been feeding on every wake cause we ff and most of the time a cuddle puts him straight back to sleep, but starting to think he is hungry so should be feeding him. Bought hungry baby formula today, 8 6oz bottles is starting to get silly.

SkiBunnnnny · 03/04/2013 03:14

That's a great link clarella! So much good info.

LO definitely seems easily bored and frustrated at the moment as well. Although, he just rolled over for the first time in a while and obviously scared himself as he started screaming! Poor wee mite.

SeymoreBunnies · 03/04/2013 07:14

Well I did get a break last night, DS slept from 7:30-12:30-3:45-6:45 which is absolutely brilliant for him so must be down to his cold

Very excited, we've just booked a trip to New Zealand next month! BIL is working there at the mo so the DCs are v excited about spending time with their uncle!

clarella not sure about losing weight but I'm definitely eating a lot more at the moment!!
