reastie No the Bieber is not loved by the girls. In fact Sofia also took down her One Direction posters a few weeks ago Shock They like a mix of music, Olivia still loves dance music, Calvin Harris still owns her heart Hmm Think I'll miss the 1D love, it was very funny watching Liv wind Sofia up about them. She constantly called the Bum Direction I know I shouldn't laugh

Sofia joined a soccer club after school, so think this will be the new "thing" Confused

Anna is a non stop chatterbox albeit with a very strange accent. She sounds like a German speaker speaking English - it's very precise with strange verb placements.

Deliaskis hope you're happier with the nursery.

Quiet enough weekend planned here, Mr W working and I'm minding my niece so it'll be lovely and quiet Hmm

PS reastie Tesco have money off Little Mermaid toys!

No news as had to rearrange the appointment as I started to bleed again. So sick of being in pain now. On the plus side I finally have my own place again. I signed for the keys on friday. Hopefully will be ready to move in fully in 2 weeks. My dp has been amazing, he's been back from Bristol to help with childcare and now he's helping me decorate. He's also been looking after me when I wobble or am in pain. I even got a cooked breakfast this morning.

Freya too, is fiercely independent. Sometimes there is no telling her. She's settled into nursery well though, I'm a bit sad she doesn't miss me but the amount of college work I have to do, I don't have time to think about it too much.

blizy · 15/09/2013 22:59

Ponyo, I,watch adventure time with the after school kids, it's ace!

blizy · 16/09/2013 08:28

Flustered, I'm so glad you have support in RL, your dp sounds like a keeper. When is your appointment?

Big waves to delia, I'm glad you and the Claudinator are well.

I am grinning at the talking toddlers, they are so funny.
I had a cap weekend, wasn't feeling the best emotionally, mil was admitted to hospital with a Suspected heart attack (it was jut a virus thankfully). And dh left for yesterday afternoon, that's him away until Friday.

Wiggs, my appointment is 23rd October, I'm pooping myself!
Right I better go, got to get ready for mindees.

americanexpat · 16/09/2013 16:55

wiggles - Grin at Anna. I remember the exact moment I realised with horror that L would have the local (Sconnie) accent instead of my very generic accent. But he seems to have developed a New Jersey accent instead. Confused

blizy - I hope your MIL is better soon. Are you close to your target BMI for the appointment?

L woke on Saturday saying he wanted to wear underpants. 3 pairs of wet pants and 90 minutes later, he was back in a diaper. He's acting like he's ready, likes to use the potty, but always has accidents when he's wearing pants. Even if he's gone to the loo 5 minutes before, he'll still have an accident. Is that a sign that he's not able to physically control his bladder yet?

Reastie · 18/09/2013 18:43

Hey all,

Question to those with LOs who have dropped naps - did they moan incredibly all afternoon and appear really tired like they needed their nap initially? Alice been refusing to nap for nearly 2 weeks after lunch. We sit quietly after lunch so she has a rest but is then bad mooded ALL AFTERNOON and practically falling asleep in her dinner and it's tantrums a'hoy from mid afternoon onwards. She then gets a second wind of energy after dinner Hmm and doesn't always go to sleep in the evening easily. And she doesn't blinking sleep longer at night so it's not like there's any positive points to losing her nap .

american I don't know re: your question, sorry. Are you persevering? I knwo the GF book says first couple of days or so it's to be expected they'll miss the loo most times and then they should 'get' it

Blizy what a worry re: MIL. Is she recovering OK?

Flustered saw the decorating piccies of your new place. Looks really nice. Are Freya and Tom excited about the move?

Wiggles Grin at bum direction I still think of them as one erection

ledkr how's the recovery from op going?

Just to get this off my chest and let the moan out and then I'll feel better. I'm very glad PIL are helping out with childcare as my parents are on holiday this week but they are driving me crazy leaving mess everywhere in the house. I leave it tidy ish and come back and there's mud and grass on the dining room floor where they must have been in there with wellies Confused and all the toys are left out and little things like the ham is left open in the fridge not covered so everything in the fridge smells of ham (DH and I are veggie, ham is Alices') . I know I'm being silly and OTT but it's just my pet peeve to have to tidy up toys and mess they leave. I'll get over it but it helps to moan Blush

wigglesrock · 18/09/2013 19:56

reastie Brew nothing is more annoying than other people in your house. The ham thing would irritate me and you know how lax I am Blush I'm strangely obsessive about opened food in the fridge.

Anna hasn't napped in so long, it's hard to remember but I do recall a grumpiness aura - more than usual anyway Hmm and yes, no nap didn't improve the length of her night time "sleep", she just closed her eyes for 1 hour less a day!

americanexpat Grin re Ls accent. I lived in central Africa between 16 months and almost 5 years of age and I still have a strange accent when I say certain words. Words like eight, date, fate etc, I sound completely different.

When we first put A in pants, she wet through them very quickly, I put them away. Left it about 3 weeks - she asked again. So we put her in pants again - she just weed in them about 4 times in 2 hours, I just changed her, then she just got it about 2 hours later. She asked for the potty and hasn't looked back since. I know its easy to say but don't feel rushed xx

We have painted our downstairs. Our living room, dining room, kitchen etc is all open plan so a change was needed. Everywhere but the kitchen is now blue Smile. Mr W can barely move phnar phnar

MizK · 19/09/2013 13:32

blizy hows MIL?

reastie Oooh I feel your pain re dropping the nap. C stopped a couple of months or so ago - she has sadly only just stopped being a complete exhausted nightmare all afternoon. She found it a real struggle to get through, what I found helped was allowing her to miss the nap without a fuss but shifting bedtime to half an hour earlier. This seemed to work as otherwise she was overtired and a wreck at bedtime. She is still a grumpy dragon just not entirely from tiredness!

wiggles I think youre right abut potty training. When theyre ready they certainly let you know!

Hello to everybody else, sorry its a quick one but got tons to do. Starting uni next week finally and C is starting full-time nursery, eeek! So I feel bad skiving on the laptop when I should be bonding with my baby! She's doing puzzles though and gets mad if I help her - she's oddly good at jigsaws?!

americanexpat · 19/09/2013 14:10

wiggles - we left it, because everyone always says they just "get it" when they're ready so I assumed he wasn't ready - but maybe we need to persevere a bit longer. He's been asking for underpants a lot lately so I think we'll have a crack at it again on Saturday.

reastie - I think I would be annoyed as well but mostly because it's enough work to tidy up after the three of us, I don't need any more mess.

I think L is getting ready to drop his nap too. [weep] I didn't push a nap last Saturday and he went to bed with a bit of rocking before 7:30. DH let him fall asleep in the car late Sunday afternoon and it was a nightmare getting him to bed.

MizK - good luck with uni. I sometimes feel guilty about L at nursery full-time but he really enjoys it.

Deliaskis · 24/09/2013 14:11

Hi ladies, just a quick hello as at work. Am Shock at all the babies (hmmm...they're not really babies are they?) dropping naps, I am dreading when Claudia does, yikes, nightmare. I am sure she will want a quick catch-up sleep at a really inappropriate time like when I put her tea on the table or something.

DH is going away Sunday for a week with work so I have a busy week doing all the drop-offs and pick-ups every day. My parents are away too so it's a bit more frantic with extra nursery (getting in later and have to still give tea as nursery tea is more of a snack).

Looking for warm proper snow suit for C this winter as we're going skiing in March. Want a really nice cosy warm and cute one but am Hmm about some of the prices.

Have ordered her a trunki though for hols next month, it will probably be mostly annoying but I'm hoping it will help her have fun at the airport.

By the time DH gets back we'll only be just under a week till we go away so yippee!

Potty training done really, well not really potty, she seems to prefer big toilet, and she's been dry/clean for about 10 days so I'm hoping that unless she's ill/upset or whatever then we have mostly cracked it.

american we had mostly accidents day one, and then day two she did manage a few successes but still sometimes stood there weeing on the floor and looking a bit perplexed. She basically got it after that though, we started about 3 weeks ago, and she's been dry for about 10 days, so I guess it was a week and a half, but nursery was a bit tricky.

Dx

Reastie · 25/09/2013 14:18

delia we have a lovely snowsuit from jojo - their polarfleece one, although, yes, it was pricey (I picked it up last year half price in their sale [smug]) I don't have all the matching glove/hat/scarf/welly warmer accessories oh no Blush . They are on ebay alot and there's a fb group specialising in second hand jojo stuff (I can fb you the link for it if you like). I love the trunkis and they seem quite popular with the children. If I were taking Alice on a plane (which as you know I'm not Sad ), I'd be very tempted.

I'm a bit nervous about potty training - since our failed attempt she has refused to sit on the potty and gets upset when i mention it Confused

Ohh wiggles how are you enjoying your lovely painted house?

Mizk hope you're enjoying uni/Cass is settled at nursery.

wigglesrock · 26/09/2013 10:09

deliaskis hope your week without dh is going ok? Trunkis are supposed to be great if the adults outnumber the kids, I think they can be awkward if you need to carry the child and pull the trunki yourself Smile

reastie I am enjoying my newly painted downstairs Smile , it has given Mr W lots of excuses to go to IKEA and faff about in the lighting dept, Anna and I perused the cafe!

All good here, Sofia & Olivia are well settled back to school and Anna and I are getting our groove back, which basically entails doing not much in the morning and then running around like eejits picking the girls up and "helping" with homework. Sofia does netball, football and Irish dancing after school, thankfully in the school so she's not finishing until 4pm. She has also taken to writing poems in bed, don't worry I'm being supportive and not at all eye rollery its killing me. There is a tinge of the Philip Larkins about them Shock

Grannyapple · 26/09/2013 11:56

Ha ha wiggs..love it re: your girls & their romanticism...& your tolerance of it Grin

Has anyone heard how ledkr is recovering now?

Re: potty training...N will happily go on potty at hone & occasionally says he needs a poo just as we are about to put him down for a nap (1st thought it was a delaying tactic but he does poo/wee in potty each time)...but point blank refuses at nursery...so not pushing it at the mo...

Right off to clean/faff around this house & pretend to be productive whilst madam is sleeping!

Reastie · 26/09/2013 12:38

wiggles she hasn't been writing things along the lines of Larkins' 'this be the verse' is she?! Grin

flusteredmumto2 · 26/09/2013 16:21

Freyas nursery encourages naps so she still has one but is no where near potty training. She sometimes asks but thats as far as it goes. Will move first then encourage more. Moving day tomorrow, it was supposed to be tuesday but the stupid sod I am ended up in hospital last week and was only discharged yesterday. I had a severe asthma attack and they were unable to stabilise my breathing. Still feel grotty but can't put moving off any longer. My mum and sisters are doing my head in and I'm sick of my stuff going missing. I have 3 esseys due next week but hopefully I can get extensions as I have been in hospital. Thankfully dp is home this weekend and I can't wait. He's been so worried but I just need a hug. Cancer tests on Monday but I've been too busy to stress out. Just want them done now! Sorry for the quick post. Freya is being especially whingy

americanexpat · 26/09/2013 16:52

flustered - poor you, I saw you were in hospital. I hope things are looking up soon. xx

L is very close to dropping his nap. He's still having one at nursery and not going to bed until nearly 9, but he seems fine and not overly tired so we're leaving it for now. He's not having one at the weekend though and he's in bed for 7. Grin I feel like it'd be too much of a rush to get him into bed at 7 on a weeknight so we're letting him stay up later.

Potty training. Hmm We tried again last Saturday and he will not tell us when he needs the toilet. Even with regular trips to the loo, he'll squeeze out a few drops and say he's finished, but 5 minutes later he'll have an accident. DH put him back in a nappy while I was having a nap instead of trying to persevere. He uses the toilet a lot at nursery but still needs a nappy. Do we just keep encouraging him to use the toilet while wearing a nappy?

blizy · 03/10/2013 17:49

Very quiet here these days. I hope everyone is doing well.

ScoobyWho · 03/10/2013 20:20

Never panic tis I Le Wigg. I name changed for a thread and can't change back on my phone, I will return in my usual guise when I find the energy to wind up the laptop Blush

blizy I know, how you doing? Your appt is in a few weeks isn't it?

MizK hope you've settled into college well!

Reastie you look fab in the FB pic and so is the kitchen Grin

All good here, seem to have spent the past few weeks in a blur of school stuff, pick ups and homework! Had curriculum evenings for both girls earlier this week - I needed help to understand the explanatory notes for Sofias Blush

Anna is doing great, a touch on the demanding side understatement of the year so far She has discovered the word "boring" - thanks Peppa Hmm Anything she doesn't want to do is "boring" - she informed me this morning that "sleeping is boring"!

Deliaskis · 06/10/2013 14:47

Hi folks, just checking in to say hi. Actually one of my reasons for coming here was to try and find out what's happening with the not-babies-anymore's naps, and I see Claudia isn't the only one to be a bit hit and miss with it these days. If she's at my Mum's or nursery she has one consistently and it's quite long, if she's at home and it's just me then she has one, if she's at home and Daddy is here then it tends to go a bit haywire as he always starts an 'exciting' job like painting the back fence, at nap time, and then C wants to help of course. And no naps at all at Nanna's. I guess she naps 3-4 days in a week. A bit Shock as I was banking on my hour of quiet in the middle of the weekend days for a bit longer, but it does at least make going out for the day a bit more straightforward. She doesn't seem bad when she doesn't nap, not really grumpy or anything.

DH is back now from his travels and being a bit grumpy TBH. I think it's easy sometimes when you're away working, even though you're working hard, you kind of get used to being able to have a shower/go to the loo/eat/drink/sleep more on your own terms and that's not the case with a 2yr old is it?

Had a letter from nursery to say C is moving up to the next room in November - yikes!

Hope all well and having a nice weekend.

Dx

americanexpat · 07/10/2013 14:51

L is in that very difficult phase where he still needs a nap but if he has one, he's awake until 9pm. He's still having a nap at nursery (so our quiet evenings are no longer) but we try to skip them at the weekend (and he's grumpy as hell). Sometimes he gets 15 minutes in the car and it makes him a bit less grumpy.

americanexpat · 07/10/2013 17:04

I also meant to ask what everyone is giving the babies toddlers for Christmas? I have an Ikea train set in the back of the cupboard that I was going to give him but DH thinks we should wait until his birthday.

wigglesrock · 07/10/2013 20:26

americanexpat we have a list of stuff that Anna would like for Christmas / birthday :
a toy cash register
etchasketch
toy food - she still loves her Ikea kitchen Smile
a new blackboard (Ikea) Smile

She really really loves toy figures, Playsets especially Peppa Pig
dressing up costumes

I love the Ikea trainset, Olivia had it.

I got Sofias Christmas present today - the huddl. She has wanted a tablet of her very own for aaaagges, everyone in her class has one, everyone Mummy Hmm
She is running for bloody Student Council this week - she's feckin' 8! It's all very serious, I worry for the school. She's a very scary hybrid of Reese Witherspoon in Election and a hint of Eva Peron - ruthlessly ambitious. She is my mothers grandchild Wink

Reastie · 09/10/2013 19:00

Hello,

delia alice has given up her nap for a few weeks now. First 2 - 3 weeks were awful - falling asleep in her dinner and tantrums on and off alot in afternoons where she was tired. We got ot the point of filling her on chocolate to give her a sugar rush to get her through till bed time Blush . She then seems to have a second burst of energy and jumps on the bed practically until she collapses to sleep! It's a bit better now though

american Alice is getting plastic tat a play supermarket for her main christmas pressie and we have some dress up stuff/books/busy book/toy food for her kitchen etc as well. Her copy of the wiggles christmas dvd arrived this morning for her . Am debating asking DParents to get her a mini micro scooter, any good??

americanexpat · 10/10/2013 16:30

Interesting about the scooter, I suppose I still see that type of toy as "too big" for him but I'm always astonished at what he's capable of. We discussed getting him a climbing frame for the back garden but that's not exactly ideal for Christmas since we live in a snowy climate. Hmm We could put it in the basement but we'd have to disassemble and reassemble to move it in the spring.

wiggles - S sounds very intense. Grin Good luck to her. Are you hoping she doesn't win?

Ledkr · 10/10/2013 19:51

Hi all I lost you.
I'm all recovered and back at work, feel much better.
D has been hit and miss with naps but still has one mostly.
She's gone full circle with sleep and can't wait to get to bed, she asks to go and also asks for a nap even at nursery.
Dh farted yesterday and she called him pooh pooh daddy!
