reastie hahaha at A and her glasses, its so funny what they pick up Grin Good for you re: potty, it is a pain now having to think how near the nearest toilet is when we go anywhere, no accidents so far but watch her have one on the plane Wink She also likes to time having a poo with when we've just started eating Hmm A knows her alphabet but the ABC song, so she can sing that and LMNOP comes out as "memememopeeeee"
I didn't think IWBU re: dummy. The same mum also started talking loudly about how she had to go to work, you know in a kind of showing off way, so don't know if she had 'something to prove' iykwim.

Ledkr · 02/07/2013 21:40

960? I wouldn't bother working if it was that much!
Dh has dills or my dil for 25 a day.
Dh just had a car accident he's ok but car damaged unusable.

americanexpat · 02/07/2013 21:51

Blimy, I'm thinking we're getting a bargain on nursery fees. Shock Even when L was under 1, I think we paid 750 pounds or so. They don't do free nursery places here but they don't start school until age 5 and the schools here have started pre-kindergarten which is 4 half days per week during the school year and free.

Ponyo - Shock I can't believe that other mum, doesn't she know how to judge silently? You should've employed the standard MN response: "Did you mean to be so rude?"

I'm not in any rush to potty train but the last couple of months, he's been uses the toilet 2-3 times a day at nursery and I'm wondering if they're judging me for not potty training sooner. Confused I know it's a stupid reason. Blush

ILovePonyo · 02/07/2013 21:56

Oh no ledkr glad your dh is ok, how horrible for him. Hope you get whatever needs to be done with the car sorted as easily as poss.
Yes agree that £960 is ridiculous, I am lucky that I love my job, If I hated it I'd be tempted to sack it off until A is older. Plus we are managing to live frugally Grin I just keep thinking that eventually we'll have a bit more cash again and be able to buy nice things/pay to go on holiday ourselves!

American I know, I don't mind the judging but she didn't have to do it out loud Grin Wink Btw that's not a stupid reason about nursery, I felt the same about A's and thought they were thinking I should be doing it sooner, her room leader (who I'm not that keen on) seemed a bit smug when A was fully trained Hmm

wigglesrock · 03/07/2013 06:27

ledkr hope dh is ok, not too shaken up.

reastie yup, homework from reception/P1 Smile Not reams of it and none at weekend. Olivia would have 1 or 2 reading books a week and a wee exercise to do in her book depending on the topic they were doing - eg cut out things you do in the sun/ rain and stick them in your book or circle the pictures that begin with "ch". Strangely they don't do spellings until the 3rd year.

americanexpat that's not a silly reason to start re the nursery. Anna knows her nappies are being sacked soon, but when we talk about it she says "not yet Manny please" Shock . I'm not going to argue with her, she scares me

ponyo Am so Envy of the holiday, you will have so much fun with A. Oh and never worry about the plane, remember A just needs to be slightly better behaved than the worst behaved child Wink We are actually having a nosy at booking next years holiday. I want it booked and paid for, so there's no chance of not getting away.

Am saving Luther for tonight, we watched This is 40 last night, I can find Judd Apatow a bit hit and miss, but I really really liked it. God that means it's because I'm that age doesn't it? Hmm

Ps yes we are up early!

I have not changed my name to Manny, it's supposed to read Mammy. Fgs you'd think autocorrect would be able to read my mind Smile

OP posts:
Ledkr · 03/07/2013 07:07

Early here too Hmm can't complain though due to previous years of comparable sleeplessness.
Dh is ok but in praying they don't write it off cis it's such low mileage with FSH and so reliable.
I hope the courtesy car isn't too embarrassing.
Ella is off on her taster day to secondary school!
I can't believe my little girl is so grown up.
I am so proud if her she is gorgeous and so kind and I'm loving seeing her mothers feistiness emerge in her attitudes to injustice etc. long may it continue.
Off for my pre op today. Will have to drive the bloody camper Hmm unless my Ferrari arrives before.

Ledkr · 03/07/2013 07:08

Luther was as ever, unrealistic and hard to follow but by god he's fit isn't he?

americanexpat · 03/07/2013 18:22

ledkr - x-post with you yesterday, glad your DH is ok!

Ponyo - is A trained at night too? L is always soaked in the morning, sometimes he does a poo right after waking so I'm wondering if we should keep him in a nappy at night for a while then straight to the toilet in the morning.

Reastie · 03/07/2013 18:35

ledkr oh no. Glad your dh is ok but Sad . what courtesy car did you get? Just as well you've got that camper. Hope the pre op went ok.

Manny wiggles and ledkr would you recommend Luther as a series to watch if not an Idris fancier?

DH and I are talking about whether to send Alice to the private preschool (which goes up to 18 years (not the nursery obv, they have a school attached!) ) and potentially private pre school too. We think we could just afford it at a stretch but mean no saving/home improvements/nice holidays etc. Place where she's likely to get a place school wise is awful - lots of problems and everyone seems to avoid unless they have no option. It would make me rest easy from now onwards that she has somewhere good to go to school and we are doing the best thing for her in the long term (assuming she settles in the nursery, if not we'll think of something else) but it's a hard decision. We have very competitive 11+ system here and I've been researching into it and early years education seems so important to long term values/work ethics/enjoyment of learning. I wonder if this is the right thing to do for Alice in the long term even if it will be a bit rubbish money wise in the short term. Hmm that was really dull wasn't it

Anyone else watching Wimbledon? I'm glued to my seat!

blizy · 03/07/2013 20:06

Ledkr. I'm glad dh is ok, he must have got such a fright. How did the pre op go? I Love the way you talk about your dc , Ella sounds like an amazing girl.

Reastie, I enjoyed Luther last night and I'm not an idris fan. The tennis was fab!
I had my programme with. Personal trainer at the gym today, man did she punish me!

Reastie · 03/07/2013 21:03

Ohh blizy what did she get you to do? (might shamelessly copy her ideas for myself!). Well done you, the weight will fall off the amount of effort you're putting in.

ILovePonyo · 03/07/2013 21:11

Haha I was just putting A's nappy on for bed and she said "I have a winky" and told me a little boy at nursery has one. I said no, she's got a foo, and she thought about it then said "maybe, when I older, I have a winky" GrinGrin

American as above, A wears a nappy for bed but she's pretty much dry, it was amazing really she went from having completely soaked nappies to dry literally overnight, however we've got 2 packs of nappies to use up so she's having a nappy in bed for now! Sometimes she'll take it off in the night Nd she'll Usually so a little wee so I'm in no rush to get her in pants at night.

Reastie my advice is go with your gut instinct Grin and yes thinking more long term is a good idea too.

Blizy go you, I want to hear more about what workout you did?!

Wiggles love your analogy (correct word?) of A not being the most annoying child on the plane, maybe I'll have to pinch a baby to make it cry if A is acting up/being loud (joke!)

Inspired by another thread I'm starting reading pet cemetery by Stephen king on my kindle tonight, spooky Shock

Ledkr · 03/07/2013 21:13

reastie I'd do without the luxuries if my only option was a crap school. I have always lived near amazing schools as I bought my house at the right time and the schools just went from strength to strength and now get better ofsteds than some of the private schools.
People are clamouring and lying to get their kids in here even temporarily rent houses etc. and they are literally on my doorstep.
blizy you go girlfriend Grin

americanexpat · 03/07/2013 22:30

reastie - I'm with ledkr, if your only choice is a rubbish school then you should make the financial sacrifice and go private.

Ponyo - I wandered over to the potty training board and several posters said that you can't potty train at night, they just start doing it when they're ready. Does she wear a nappy during her nap at nursery?

ILovePonyo · 03/07/2013 23:05

American um, I don't know Blush I don't put a nappy on her for naps at the weekend though and she's been ok. To be honest her bladder control is better than mine! I don't see what's wrong with leaving a nappy on overnight for quite a while though really? Are you planning on starting tomo?

Am shattered off to bed, night all Smile

ILovePonyo · 06/07/2013 22:58

Hello all, me again! Grin

Just a quick post before bed, we took A to a big park with a farm/rides/etc etc today, had a lovely day. She is funny though, there was a bit with water shooting out of the ground and all the kids were running through it, I could see A wanted to go in but she said "no, too many children" Grin then would wander around the edge and only go in when it was nearly empty.
Me and dp were saying she is quite happy watching other children but not one to get involved, definitely happy to watch from the sidelines.
Nothing wrong with it of course but I am getting 'the guilt' that she might be lonely growing up and thinking that I should be having another Hmm
Me and dp both said we were similar as kids though and both happy in our own company.
Anyway hope everyone has enjoyed the sunshine, am shattered and its my turn to get up at 6.30 with the pest Grin so night all!

ILovePonyo · 06/07/2013 22:59

Just realised I've said I'm shattered in my last 2 posts, I need to start going to bed earlier!

Reastie · 07/07/2013 06:33

ponyo hope you're now less shattered Grin . FWIW Alice is the same (although she's an only child too of course...), if there are lots of children she's go all shy and nervous and not join in but if it's quiet and just her or a few children she'll love their company and can be quite outgoing Confused . I worry it's an only child thing too, but to be fair I also worry it's because I don't take her to things much where she gets involved with lots of children together (like nursery) that much, but it makes me feel better that you do and Anya is still like that. Personally I think it's a good thing to be happy in your own company it makes for easier parenting at times! as well as being sociable. I remember loving going to playgrounds where there were no other children when I was younger and always feeling disappointed if there were stacks of kids there that's probably just me isn't it .

We now have a makeshift kitchen dining room in the playroom ready for kitchen works. We are now living from microwave meals for the next month. Great!

wigglesrock · 07/07/2013 08:32

ponyo Both Sofia and Anna are like that, Sofia especially wasn't a fan of places filled with other kids - she was even wobbly at birthday parties. Even after I had Liv, she was the same. She just liked to do things on her own terms.

She's a hugely sociable child now, but still likes time by herself. Anna is the same, in toddler group, she likes to play by herself with the toys. Right now we're upstairs - she's throwing zoo figures down the stairs of a toy house whilst sitting on her rocking moose Hmm what am I rearing Grin

reastie embrace the ready meals Smile am cheerfully whistling "welcome to my world"

I think you may have been looking for jellies - of the shoe variety - my Sainsburys has the them.

americanexpat did you try the toilet training?

blizy how's the gym going?

OP posts:
Ledkr · 07/07/2013 09:56

D also observes a lot and she is supremely confident. It's their age I think.
We are camping. Couple of girlfriends and our kids.
It's really lovely and I'm so enjoying the sunshine.
Currently lay on my air bed reading the paper and drinking coffee whilst dilly occasionally jumps on me.
I feel like a nervous wreck!

Reastie · 07/07/2013 10:38

Thanks for the jelly shoe mention wiggles . My problem is Alice's feet as so wide they won't fit her. Have tried Next, Tesco, Sainsburys, Mothercare etc and no luck in them fitting her. Ended up getting blinking expensive waterproof type jesus sandals from clarks

ledkr sounds fab.

I'm just choosing clothes for my holiday next week. ladies, I am wearing a pair of size 14 jeans [proud]

Ledkr · 07/07/2013 20:38

Well done reastie that's amazing. I remember you making lots if excuses not to lose weight but now look at you!

Reastie · 07/07/2013 20:59

Ledkr they weren't excuses, they were very plausible reasons Grin Wink . I'm nearing 6 stone now!

Reastie · 07/07/2013 21:00

as in 6 stone loss, not actually weighing 6 stone Shock
