liliana she gets a running commentary (trust me, it wouldn't win me any friends) ie. "and now I'm washing a knife, yes I am, now a fork, and now look at daddys dirty plate he forgot to wash up, naughty daddy" etc. Poor child.

More calpol has been given in the hopes it helps her sleep. Dh and dsd have gone out for curry . I haven't had a proper curry for so long

At baby group, they have things like silicone cupcake moulds, silicone basters and spatulas. The babies seem to love them. Also clear drinks bottles with water and glitter inside. Cheap and cheerful and bloody good distractions

PetiteRaleuse · 06/03/2013 19:04

I keep meaning to do a first aid course but they are expensive round here and not very common. Kirrin if you could do one that could reassure your a little? I do have a first aid book which has reassured me - it's called When Your Child is Ill - I have pretty much memorised it, and it is far less scary than google when your child is ill.

Choking is a real hazard and things like blackberries as VQ said, anything round that can block the airway is dangerous. Grapes and nuts are the obvious ones to be super careful with. With DD1 when I gave her something that was a little bigger than usual I made exaggerated chewing motions, to turn chewing into a game. She could chew by about eight or nine months, but she needed to be watched and encouraged. As she still does. I never leave her to eat anything without supervision, even easy stuff.

ValiumQueen · 06/03/2013 19:06

sweetpea it may just be that he was brewing a poo. He has plenty of time to work on his social skills. I am quite shy, but my girls are so confident it is scary.

DS is entertained by life in this house. He goes in his bouncer after food, bounces like a nutter, then goes on his mat, then goes wherever I am, for example in the kitchen and washes me cook or wash up. I talk to him all the time and make sure he gets plenty of eye contact. He has tummy time in the evening when he will not get pounced on. He likes my TV thankfully, if it is just me and him.

misslaughalot · 06/03/2013 19:10

sweetpea I'm exactly the same re a dummy. We haven't used one yet either but I've wondered also if one might help her sleep for longer. I'm determined only to use one as a very last resort though, and have stood firm so far despite MIL's best efforts

Lily311 · 06/03/2013 19:17

PR, I did a first aid course at 8 month pregnant. It was a refresher as I need to renew mine every 3 years for work. It was around £70 but just saw at my gp that they do it for free now. Grrr.

I take DD swimming, to playgroup and baby massage, we are out twice a day, our fav activity is browsing in Asda or Tesco. At home she loves her cot mobile, happy to stay there for 30 min. Than bouncer, playgym, etc but mainly sitting on me and chewing my hands. Quite boring, I talk to her all the time. Her look sometimes says just shut up though.

Passmethecrisps · 06/03/2013 19:32

I am an incessant blether as well. And a singer of nonsense. We will be starting baby massage on Monday, we tried baby signing today - won't be doing that again - but will try book bugs next week. I like the people at a Wednesday toddler group so we sometimes go to that and Friday is baby sensory. I try to get out the house every day just to remind her that the sky exists. I wander up to sainsbury's usually which is 5 minutes from my house. In the house she sits on me nomming my hands, sits in her bouncer nomming her own hands or a toy or she lies on her play mat. In the afternoons I tend to take her around with me in the bouncer and she watches while I do things.

DH has been desperate to take her swimming so that will be exciting for her.

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 06/03/2013 19:41

Ah PR I feel your pain with the dummy weaning. DD (just 2) is obsessed with hers. She goes to bed with all of them. About 16. Ever since she was tiny she needed one in each hand, one in her mouth, and a few spares, hovering around. Up until she was 2 she had them a lot, but one day I just decided got a backbone that she could have them at bedtime only. She asked for them for 3 days, then gave up. Now she says "bye dummies" in the morning and voluntarily puts them in her drawer. It's also made bedtime easier as she is grateful to have them so tolerates being in her own bed.

DS likes a dummy too, but perhaps not as much. Who knows.

Before I had kids, I was one of those, "my child will never have a dummy" types. Now, I'm just hoping they wont have one when they leave home Grin

Lily welcome and Thanks. You are amazing. I will try and be nicer to my DH.

Detective so pleased that semi-normal service has resumed.

horsey love the pics, thanks.

On the feeding front, I havent seen a HV since about day 10. Dont go to clinic, havent been at home when they've called. Cant be arsed. very bad mother, coupled with second child, I have no time to go, syndrome emoticon. Am sure DS has much, much more formula than recommended. I havent had him weighed for about 6 weeks, so dont know where he is, but he's growing and generally content, and that's good enough for me.

pikz feet printing cards sounds like fun. We did feet and hands at 12 weeks, because that's when we had done DD's and I wanted to compare. At the same time we also did everyone's hand print on a piece of paper, mine, DH's, DD's and DS's. and I framed it and hung it in the kitchen.

Oh yeah, and it is sweary Wednesday. Hope everyone has a fucking awesome night's sleep.

gardenpixie32 · 06/03/2013 19:45

We go for walks, baby massage, swimming. I sing to them a lot, which they find entertaining. They go on their play mat, play ring, Jumperoo, bouncy chair.

The days are pretty monotonous but they don't seem to notice. Feeling fed up today, no particular reason, just fed up. Going to have a very early night, am thinking 8:30pm.

Oh and Glenda, I gave the girls a stick of cucumber today. I was really surprised at how well they did. Both gnawed at it and managed to get the soft bits off! They will be 23 weeks in 3 days. I wont give anything but cucumber and will try them on BLW at 26 weeks and see how they do.

Welcome lily :)

PetiteRaleuse · 06/03/2013 19:51

LO will be weighed tomorrow for the first time since January, then she won't be weighed again, serious illness excepted, until her 6/7 month visit. We have six obligatory weigh ins between birth and 2 years - this will be her 4th. We have six obligatory thorough checks then a bonus of 500 euros at 2 after the 6th. Since the first two take place before they leave hospital it ensures we get the babies checked a few more times. It's complicated but it works. We don't have hvs or post natal mw checks.

Lily311 · 06/03/2013 20:00

Does the Jumperoo worth its price? I don't have a car and all the used ones on gumtree/preloved are far away. Ebay is mostly pick up only and the ones that have postage usually cost only £10 less than new on Amazon.

ValiumQueen · 06/03/2013 20:04

pr you get given money? That is quite a bit!

ValiumQueen · 06/03/2013 20:07

DD2 had a jumperoo. Fucking huge thing it was, and she hated it! Was pleased to see it go. I find the baby bjorn bouncer is all I need, and all I have room for. DS goes in his bumbo but is still not a fan, and he still gets stuck.

YellowWellies · 06/03/2013 20:12

lily I might be able to get you a jumperoo - a pal has given me her old one and we already have one. Its boxed up and she warned that she had no idea if all the bits are there but I'll pull it out of the loft for you when we move house if you can wait til 5th April.

sweetpea1112 · 06/03/2013 20:21

How much support does a bumbo give? O has reasonable head control but can still be a bit wobbly. Also looking at the mamas & papas version. Anyone tried it?

BigPigLittlePig · 06/03/2013 20:22

F fell asleep on me after calpol/feed at 7....I put her in her cot half an hour ago and she's still there, sparko. I'm going to have a dreadful night, to make up for the lack of a feeding frenzy, aren't I??? She's only fed perhaps 5 times today - usually she'd have at least twice as much Sad

Sorry for being a bit me, me, me today, but having F poorly is so very sad - you wish you could take it all away from them.

Lilliana · 06/03/2013 20:27

sweet i think we might be! I have the same feelings as you about dummies too. Don't worry about o at groups. L was the same the first week and has slowly got more confident each week and now loves lying / sitting watching all the other babies and playing. Keep at it, O will get there

kissyfur · 06/03/2013 20:28

Tha

kirrinIsland · 06/03/2013 20:30

VQ Those sort of scary stories are where my fear comes from. I think it's manageable, and to be fair, DD1 will eat pretty much anything now.
A first aid course is a great idea PR I'll look into that.

N rolled today! She mostly spends her days watching DD1 and me just doing stuff. I feel a bit guilty that DD1 spent her babyhood at under 1s and breast feeding groups, but N will spend hers watching DD1 trampolining and such like, but that's the price you pay for being the second born!

PetiteRaleuse · 06/03/2013 20:34

Yes VQ but we get less family allowance that kind of thing. We have six obligatory medicals during pregnancy including a trip to the dentist, and once they are done we get 500?. We get another 500? for giving birth and then 500? when the baby is two if we do the six obligatory check ups. We get a monthly allowance too, but I don't know much it is Blush

it's the Luxembourg system which we are allowed to take advantage of if we work in Lux. It means though we don't get family allowance in France, or any of the childcare discounts they get here. If you work in Lux you have to get Lux allowances. It gets complicated if one partner works in Lux and the other in France, but that's not the case with us.

It sounds generous and it is really, but things even out. We don't have hvs, or surestart, or the 15 hours frer childcare that you guys get until the Tories wreck everything

If we lived in Lux it would be massively more generous, but rent and house prices are double.

daisychain76 · 06/03/2013 20:34

Hello lily and barefoot. Tried to catch up but. my head is spinning with work. l miss maternity leave!

I often feel l don?t do enouggh with H. We do yoga and l try to do a bit of massage at night, buut other than that he just sort of comes along for the ride! I also feel bad l don?t have any friends with babies in RL, so no little playmates his own age. Having said all that he?s a very sociable, happy little chap, so its obviously not affecting him at the moment.

Oh and he slept 5 hours last night!!! Perhaps 23 1/2 weeks is the turning point?!

Sorrry not to namecheck but hope all LOs settle well tonight.

kissyfur · 06/03/2013 20:36

Whoops posted way too early there!

LO better this afternoon, no more horrible reflux attacks thank goodness, I am going on a seriously bland food diet from now on. Stupid fucking onions indeed VQ!

I wish I could do as much with LO as some of you girls do, she mostly ends up watching DD1 and I. She does like to go in her baby gym tho and has started batting things with her hands and she had a chew of a toy today. I'm borrowing a jumperoo from a friend this weekend too so hopefully she'll like that.

I'm very scared of my children choking too. Weaning was quite a stressful time for me with DD1. I worry when I see children eating whole grapes, I always cut DDs up still and probably will til she's quite a bit older. It's not worth the risk not to IMO

PetiteRaleuse · 06/03/2013 20:38

Has there been an update from Eliza? she had an appointment this afternoon? Any idea when she's allowed home? Have scrolled through but can't see an update.

Pikz · 06/03/2013 20:38

Good night cockmunchers. Am praying for 4 hours at least.

ValiumQueen · 06/03/2013 20:47

I will always cut up grapes for my kids, even when they have kids of their own!

Evilwater · 06/03/2013 20:52

Well this morning was going so well, until the cat craped in the bath! So just on time for baby social class. Then late to meet a friend, in town. That's pretty much been my day.

Off to have my coil fitted tomorrow, YAY no more fucking pills!!!!! Grin

Big and MadameG we should meet again.

So... What are you lot up to Mother's Day? Me, a family meal with my family Wine and P familySad. can I fake illness?? Any other ideas to miss it? Plague?
