Hello Everyone,

I've been lurking on all antenatal and post-natal thread, time for me to come out too. Baby Girl was born on 20/11/12, 3 days early. She saved my life, literally, my OH sadly passed away when I was 14 weeks pregnant, nearly a year ago.

She is a true velcro baby who does not like to be put down. She does not roll, giggle or sleep through the night (although she did between week 10 and 13, sleep regression started early!). She is a joy when she is in a good mood, we are a very tight unit already.

I love sweary Wed, unfortunately I only do swearing when cycling. Which hasn't happened for nearly a year.

PetiteRaleuse · 06/03/2013 11:49

All these lurkers coming out of the woodwork, you're very welcome but I'm wondering how many more are there reading our rantings and ravings.

BigPigLittlePig · 06/03/2013 11:52

They're probably terrified of being barked at by detective Grin

PetiteRaleuse · 06/03/2013 11:53

Lily I took ages writing that and actually cross posted. So sad about your DH you must have been devastated Thanks

Congratulations on your LO. She has a rather excellent birthday Wink

PetiteRaleuse · 06/03/2013 11:54

Detective mainly barks at DM journos. I hope there aren't any of them in this group elseI'm screwed

YellowWellies · 06/03/2013 11:55

Oh lily oh my word. I'm so sorry. That must have been the most unimaginably painful thing to deal with at any time, let alone pregnant - you should have posted months ago! Welcome. And get your swearing pants on Grin

Lilliana · 06/03/2013 11:58

Welcome Lily I'm so sorry to hear about your OH Thanks lovely that you have such a close bond with your LO. I hope you have lots of RL support, you must be amazingly strong.

I just hope there is no-one who knows me lurking!

Any other lurkers come out, come out wherever you are!

kirrinIsland · 06/03/2013 12:03

Welcome lily So sorry about your OH, that must be horrendous :(

Sophiathesnowfairy · 06/03/2013 12:06

I am very behind. Sad hugs to those of you having a difficult time detective, sounds like you are coming out the other side.

mm in my limited experience with eczema it is worth really trying to look at the cause of the eczema, and, I am sorry to say, adjust diets etc to suit. Creams are great and help with itching and scratching but the eczema is just a symptom of something else which is the thing that needs attention. M might just grow out of it. My M did largely but still gets the odd bit in the winter when all the central heating is on and she wears tights. And her eczema was vicious and bleeding.

After 4 am chatter and bubble blowing Olly has now unceremoniously been moved into the spare room.

Today is mainly about runny eyes. Runny nose. And dribble.

1 month later I am still bleeding from the fucking wankmirena.

Wish it was sweary Wednesday tomorrow when I go to see the nurse about it. Grin

Sophiathesnowfairy · 06/03/2013 12:07

Ahh lily that is so sad Thanks and makes me feel so blessed to have my DH to do parenthood with.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 06/03/2013 12:08

In fact lily I will never whingy about him again.

kissyfur · 06/03/2013 12:17

X posts lily so so sorry about your OH

kissyfur · 06/03/2013 12:21

Stupid app lost my first post.

Need help, LO having a terrible reflux attack. Screaming and gurgling on acid that is rising up in her throat. It's awful and really scary.what can I do to help her?

Passmethecrisps · 06/03/2013 12:33

Poor sausage kissy. Does she take a dummy? I encourage P to suck her dummy and it really helps. She does take encouragement though as it hurts to swallow.

To get her to stop crying long enough to take it blow in her face. She will take a sharp breath and pause. Then you can pop the dummy in. Lots of cuddles and standing on my legs helps P. keeping her rod straight keeps pressure from her gut off the stomach

Passmethecrisps · 06/03/2013 12:36

Welcome lilly. I am glad you have come out the woodwork - this is one of the most supportive groups you could find not remotely biased obviously

I am busy mentally composing a rant about amounts and 'advice'

Passmethecrisps · 06/03/2013 12:37

Also kissy if LO will take a bottle a wee drop of cool milk can soothe a sore throat. Poor, poor wee thing.

Donnadoon · 06/03/2013 12:39

Welcome Lily311 Thanks

Kyzordz · 06/03/2013 12:43

Thankyou all, I have tried (well, DM did the Sunday before last) and he woke for a feed at 3am so I haven't tried since! He has a lovely little routine, feeds every 3.5-4 hourly, takes 5-8oz, usually closer to 8 and goes to bed at 8, dream feed 10-10:30 then goes till 7, at which point I have to wake him. I don't feel I need to change it and was a bit taken back with how concerned she seemed :( I don't think I force feed him, he took 5oz at his 11am feed and did not want more so I left it at that, which is what I usually do. I expect he will be hungry from about 2:30

Welcome lily so sorry for your loss, I can't imagine going through that :(

ValiumQueen · 06/03/2013 12:46

lily311 welcome, and sorry for your loss. I am so glad your little one arrived safely so you will always have a part of her Daddy living on Thanks and the best of reasons to carry on living life to the full.

ValiumQueen · 06/03/2013 12:48

kirrin why do you think you messed up with DD1? Feel free to ignore, but maybe talking it over would help reduce any stress about weaning LO?

Passmethecrisps · 06/03/2013 12:55

Right.

I am thoroughly cheesed off with the pressure on all of us to have a baby who neatly follows a line on a graph. Is there any evidence kyz that E is being overfed? I would suspect not. What solutions or suggestions were given? I suspect none.

I have had medical people gasp at how little P eats and crossly state that I must feed her more because I leave her to starve obviously and others who have shrugged their shoulders and said "well, she looks great".

My sister was told recently that her baby (16 weeks) was 'overweight' and that she should feed him less. She wasn't told how to do this when he is crying and asking for food. The result of this is that she is desperate to start him on solids but doesn't know how. She is too scared to ask because the same HV told her not to consider it until 6 months and just feed him more milk!

Personally, having seen him I don't think he is remotely ready for weaning but she feels that this will be the answer. I have no issue with weaning per se but her lack of knowledge and support worries me greatly.

He takes between 30-35oz per day. As P should supposedly be on 25 per day I can't think that this is massively over what he should be.

I really believe that some of the contradictory advice given by the 'experts' is potentially damaging.

kyz you know your child. You are not pouring it down his throat in a funnel. Do as you feel right within the confines of common sense. At the most I might consider offering one oz less for a couple of feeds per day. See how that goes. As I said to my sister, more important that amounts now is developing and encouraging a healthy attitude towards food is the most important thing.

BigPigLittlePig · 06/03/2013 13:01

Hear hear pass
Welcome lily

F has only woken to cry and feed today Sad. Just managed to get some calpol into her so hopefully that will kick in before the jabs upset her even more. I don't like today very much.

YellowWellies · 06/03/2013 13:09

VQ you're going to be a great health visitor you have such a way with words.

Any news from Casa Detective? Am hoping the losec is helping O.

glendathefedupwitch · 06/03/2013 13:13

Ohhhhhh this time last year I spent the whole day sobbing, eating Jaffa cakes watching SATC the movie and realised this wasn't normal pms - and got my skinny hardly there "is that a line" positive!!

Oh and kicked matrons ass!!! And got my hours back to one shift a week!!!! Go me!!!!

TooManyDicksOnTheDancefloor · 06/03/2013 13:14

Welcome lily311, what an awful thing to happen, I am so sorry for your loss.

Welcome barefoot and any other lurkers!

I don't see how you can over feed a baby, they eat when they are hungry. Most breastfeed babies feed more regularly than ff babies and who knows how much they take? And breast milk has more calories. How ridiculous telling you your baby will be obese kyz. Ignore, ignore, ignore.
