Right.
I am thoroughly cheesed off with the pressure on all of us to have a baby who neatly follows a line on a graph. Is there any evidence kyz that E is being overfed? I would suspect not. What solutions or suggestions were given? I suspect none.
I have had medical people gasp at how little P eats and crossly state that I must feed her more because I leave her to starve obviously and others who have shrugged their shoulders and said "well, she looks great".
My sister was told recently that her baby (16 weeks) was 'overweight' and that she should feed him less. She wasn't told how to do this when he is crying and asking for food. The result of this is that she is desperate to start him on solids but doesn't know how. She is too scared to ask because the same HV told her not to consider it until 6 months and just feed him more milk!
Personally, having seen him I don't think he is remotely ready for weaning but she feels that this will be the answer. I have no issue with weaning per se but her lack of knowledge and support worries me greatly.
He takes between 30-35oz per day. As P should supposedly be on 25 per day I can't think that this is massively over what he should be.
I really believe that some of the contradictory advice given by the 'experts' is potentially damaging.
kyz you know your child. You are not pouring it down his throat in a funnel. Do as you feel right within the confines of common sense. At the most I might consider offering one oz less for a couple of feeds per day. See how that goes. As I said to my sister, more important that amounts now is developing and encouraging a healthy attitude towards food is the most important thing.
