chunky I am the same as you, I am really struggling to keep up with everything and everyone.

detective I second what horsey said.

evil how is your DP now? Not sure if I have missed an update?

eliza hope you get to go home soon.

bigpig I think there comes a time when all babies actually love being naked. When they're tiny its such a faff, but then they realise that its quite nice to have a nappy-free kick. DS loves it. We end up with wee everywhere, but its ok. and DD still loves being naked. And at 2 can now remove her own clothes superfast

We have had a bloody brilliant day today. Went to Ikea (no horsemeatballs available), got furniture sorted for DD and resisted many, many things we loved. Came home, went for lovely walk in the sunshine and signed up for the gym! I am now seriously trying to get fit as am signed up to climb Ben Nevis in September, for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. As a massive fatty, this will be an enormous challenge and I am fucking petrified, but one I really need. DH is totally behind me and we are going to start regularly walking as a family and change our unhealthy lifestyle to a better one.

gardenpixie32 · 05/03/2013 20:10

detective what a worry for you. I hope things improve soon. No advice :(

Eliza good news about your LO gaining weight, I hope you get to go home soon.

Contradictionincarnate · 05/03/2013 20:19

Eliza good you can go home soon make sure you finish that chocolate. its fab that she had some bannana and know that 16 weeks seems early for some solids but it used to be the norm and even 12 weeks for a few generations ago. I know some v healthy people weened early and no allergies!
det so sorry you are having such a bad time hope when the meds kick in tommorow o will feel much better!

Passmethecrisps · 05/03/2013 20:28

Oh goodness. What a day.

detective been there and bought the tear-sodden t-shirt.
It is the worst thing when they just won't eat. He will be ok on the wee amounts he is taking and it does prove that he isn't on complete nursing strike. Have you tried feeding him standing up? There are still days with P when the only way to get more than 1oz in her is to stand up and hold her while feeding. Rocking slowly from side to side seems to calm her enough to get at least 1 more oz in her and sometimes chills her enough for me to sit down and she'll take the rest of the feed.

If he does completely clamp his jaws shut then take him to A&E. He will take quite a long time for Oscar to become dehydrated at his age but don't take any risks.

Oh, and let someone else feed him and you leave the room. Your anxiety will be making things worse. P fed well from the nurse who forced me to go and get a cup of tea and who fed her standing up.

Try to put amounts out of your head for a couple of days. He is obviously starting to associate eating with pain and anxiety so letting him lead the way for a day or so while the meds kick in should help him.

TheDetective · 05/03/2013 20:34

Exhausted. Realised I hadn't eaten all day either. Making up for it now, and then going to bed. DP insisting he stays up with O and feeds him at 10.30.

We'll see how that one goes! I've told him to wake me if he doesn't take 3 oz.

Thank you so much YW I'm so frazzled I can't bloody think straight. GP went straight for Gaviscon, I said don't bother. He's already on a thickened feed, that would just be daft to put that in too. He needs something for the pain, not the vomiting now. So gimme Omeperazole. And he did. I think the mine and O's tears helped. He is very good at showing his symptoms off for the GP thank goodness.

GP will review in 2 weeks, or sooner if I am worried. Is your GP managing J's? Or have you been referred to a consultant for him?

Passmethecrisps · 05/03/2013 20:36

Good on you madam! Are you having a just giving page? I would like to donate if you are.

I checked with our chemist re infant gaviscon today and they have it in stock. However, we aren't using it anymore as we are now using carobel so if I can send on the remainder of the pack from kyzordz and any more I get then I would like to do that for anyone who needs. horsey do you need?

TheDetective · 05/03/2013 20:40

Thanks pass I don't think I've tried him standing up. He took the 3oz before in the car seat while the engine was running shit mother alert. He fell asleep after the 3oz and hasn't woken since. He just pursed his lips and wouldn't entertain any more.

Will just try little and often with him.

SMA helpline said that I shouldn't put any heat to the formula at all, and that I should make them up over an hour before he needs them to allow them to come up to room temp. Not sure if I have a cold house, but it takes more than an hour to come to room temp. She said that babies in Europe would drink theirs out the fridge. Helpful. DS1 would. But O won't. So anyway, she said to leave the water out in the bottles, and add the formula when needed. As long as the water is room temp it will be okay. I did it with the last feed, and no clogging. I'm not convinced how safe all that is, but I'll think about that tomorrow when my brain has returned from wherever it has escaped too.

Passmethecrisps · 05/03/2013 20:40

detective it might not make a difference but some calpol might help as O's throat might be sore.

Passmethecrisps · 05/03/2013 20:42

Worry about one thing at once detective. I know it sounds tiny but my lower limit for P is 2oz. I don't know why but if she can take that I leave it be.

PetiteRaleuse · 05/03/2013 20:42

Eliza my LO had her first solids today too - also banana. Follow medical advice, they will be tailoring it to your baby. Guidelines go out the window in special cases, and banana is full of good stuff, easy to digest and nonallergenic, so won't harm her. Hope you're home soon x

TheDetective · 05/03/2013 20:43

Funny you should say that. I've just said to DP to give him some when he wakes. I was thinking of giving it to him 2 or 3 times a day for the next 48 hours til he is calmer. I don't want to give him the full dose in 24 hours, or for a long period, but just for the interim, I think it might help him.

He just keeps crying out in his sleep again. :(

horseylady · 05/03/2013 20:44

madame Ben Nevis is alright. Just a slog. Take it steady. We did it then did scarfell pike and snowdon within 24 hous. I'd like to go back to Ben Nevis just to spend more time rather than racing up and down it. Will find photos. It's a nice mountain.

pass I've managed to get some but if no one else wants it ill take it!!

det eat and sleep. I think dp will be ok. Huge hugs.

PetiteRaleuse · 05/03/2013 20:45

Detective LO will only take her milk lying down at the moment since she is achey from the flu. Could be good to try different feeding positions.

Evilwater · 05/03/2013 20:51

Madam- he's studying for a test, for the past five months classes. He has a small problem, he hasn't been going to the classes as N since N was born.

Detective- I've noticed that N will feed when I'm eating too. Just a thought. Your poor O. Huge hugs.

N is 5 months today! Grin

Evil

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 05/03/2013 20:56

Bugger. Just tried to post and lost it.

pass thanks. I will do at some stage.

horsey I am told a reasonably fit adult should be able to manage it. I am a very long way from that but aiming to be there by September. Would love to see a pic if you can FB?

Doing the climb with a friend, whose best friend had CF and sadly died a couple of years ago. My friend gets married this year, and is missing her best friend who would have been a bridesmaid, so a couple of us are supporting our friend. But I am also using it as a very great challenge to motivate me to a fitter lifestyle. The combination of doing it for a great charity, and for my friend, means I simply cannot do what I always do and pretend it wont happen and then have to deal with it with no preparation. I am extremely bloody minded determined, but determination alone will not get my fat arse up a mountain.

glendathefedupwitch · 05/03/2013 21:08

Detective - yay well done Oscar - now make sure you eat enough to stop mummy having a breakdown xxx

fairimum · 05/03/2013 21:09

detective from experience they will have given you the very min dose of omeprazole and takes a good few days to take full effect, my DS had to have his increased 4 times before it worked for him, good luck xx

fairimum · 05/03/2013 21:13

not sure if you have found it but the forums at www.littlerefluxers.co.uk/ are really good when you are at your wits end xx

TheDetective · 05/03/2013 21:15

Thanks Fairmum the GP gave me a middling dose, he went for in the end. 2.5mls I think it was. He said there was no point starting at the bottom. Phew. Sensible GP!!

Oscar just took 6 fucking ounces. GET IN!!

Yes, I should be in bed. I am going. Good fucking night! I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO looking forward to sweary wednesday. You have been warned!

fruitpastilles · 05/03/2013 21:17

Hugs detective at least O had 3oz earlier that's something, hope he feeds for your dp later.

Well either S did end up taking some of the calpol and I didn't notice, or she didn't need it after all because she perked up loads this evening (hoping it's the latter)

TheDetective · 05/03/2013 21:17

I've just eaten tacos followed by a bacon butty. Goodbye diet!!

fairimum · 05/03/2013 21:21

glad your gp is on the ball xx

blonderedhead · 05/03/2013 21:23

Just catching up, a lot of sad babies and Mummies today. Maybe there's something in the air as L had a major meltdown at the breast earlier the likes of which we haven't seen since he started the new formula.

Det hope this medication works for you and O and he settles down again.

Eliza well done on the banana and hope all continues to improve so you and E can go home.

Donnadoon · 05/03/2013 21:25

Well done Oscar! Wishing everyone peaceful sleeps.

ValiumQueen · 05/03/2013 21:33

detective that is progress. Sweet dreams now, and you can have my sleepy dust (not that it works for me anyway)

J went down at 9.15. If I get three hours I will be happy.

Did I mention DD2 has learned a new word? She can now pronounce 'sodding' beautifully. DH says with my language recently I got of lightly. Row ensued over reasons for bad language. Oops.
