This makes me Angry how the fuck does a hv, who's spent all of 5 minutes with my baby, know when he's hungry? No one dictates to me when and what i eat, why should i impose such a random expectation on a tiny, growing baby?!!

FriendofDorothy · 28/02/2013 19:09

Chloe the Connecta is reversible so you can wear the pretty side and your husband can wear the plain black side. Win win.

IsThatTrue · 28/02/2013 19:14

chloe spotty and pidj that is exactly the reason I decided not to go back to clinic anymore after being told DS should not be going more than 4 hrs (which he's done all of 3 times in his 11 weeks) and yet he feeds 2 hourly (if not more regularly) during the day, I know he's not starving and he's gaining weight well. Tbh my attitude now is fuck the hv. I really don't care.

SpottyTeacakes · 28/02/2013 19:23

My HV is really nice as is the nursery nurse. I can't see ds every going more than two hours in the day! I had to get it up from hourly though because he was screaming by nursery drop off and I still had a 20 minute drive home he's much happier now.

I've really hurt my leg though Sad pulled it from my hip to my ankle!

Oh ds has to have a heart echo and appointment with specialist on Monday (one who looked after him in SCBU)

halesball · 28/02/2013 20:44

Oh no spotty hope your leg gets betterThanks

I think i have a good HV but i remember some advice that someone off this thread once gave me (sorry can't remember who) but they said 'Listen to the good advice ignore the stuff that sounds like rubbish'

MaMaPo · 28/02/2013 20:50

Will let you know what the book says - isthat, I think you were asking.

Well, we made it fine to Amsterdam - small meltdown in pram on the way to airport, but we used the Ergo after checkin and she was fine. Mostly fed on the short flight, no crying or anything. It's lovely to be here, we rented an apartment right on a canal. Husband is off getting brootjes and beer - good man - while I feed C in prep for bedtime.

C feeds around 2 hourly or so in the daytime, and 3 or so at night. Not too bad. We tend to feed less when we are out - I think sometimes I get bored so we have a feed. :)

Mil has already started the 'he will need food soon' line. Dear god alive stop me from killing her!!!!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 28/02/2013 22:17

We went to weigh in today, 11lb 7oz, 10oz gain. The HV put us on a watch listy thing as that wasn't enough for 3 weeks until I pointed out I had had him weighed 2 weeks earlier not 3 Confused. The last time the HV had put him down as 7 weeks not 8 so today's one tore up the GP referral and said she'd slap the other one's legs for me Grin.

Also went to bubble and rhyme, I loved it! I sing to DS all day every day anyway so this gave me a whole new repertoire to work with!

I'm making up my nights worth of bottles at the minute, I asked DP to do them at 7pm, he said he'd do them later. Instead he fell asleep and is now in bed. If I'd known I'd have done them myself earlier as I could have had the steriliser running/kettle boiling while I watched TV. This is why he thinks I'm a control freak, because it's just fucking easier to do it all my fucking self.

WLmum · 28/02/2013 22:46

Goodness, missed loads!

Forward facing moby hold - must def check that out! Dd really only likes being in it to sleep and otherwise does like to be carried facing out. Thought I'd have to wait til she's big enough for hip hold.

hales you must do what's right for you re feeding but I was v glad I'm bfing today after day out lasted much longer than anticipated and then awful traffic home. Cue one v upset dd, so pulled into a side road and she had a massive feed. Would have been a v stressful drive home without enough bottles.

seconds sounds like your situation with a shrinking baby is much like mine was with dd - no matter how hard I tried I just couldn't make ebf work for her and putting her on formula was absolutely the best
decision, just annoyed with myself that I didn't do it sooner.

We feed about every 2 hours in the day, sometimes more but I do think sometimes it's because she's a bit bored and we've played and walked etc so she ends up on the boob as it always makes her happy. Touch wood nights are good (spotty cover your eyes!) and we're usually only up once.

2blessed · 28/02/2013 23:47

isthat im getting the 'he'll need food soon' hints too. I think he's alright on ebf for now.

Ds has been very clingy this week, we're currently tucked up in bed with him attached to my breast which is where he has been most of the evening. Dp cooked a lovely meal, ate, fell asleep and is now softly snoring next to us. I'm exhausted and still got washing up, sterilising to do!

SeymoreInOz · 01/03/2013 00:53

seconds I think S26 is the most popular out here, it's weird that the Aptamil formulation is different. Why do they do that?! I'm glad Z is doing well with the jet lag! I'm not sure when we'll go home for a visit but I worry about what will happen to DS's sleep, so it's reassuring that you've found it ok. I can't believe that woman on the flight! It is definitely fine to have the reading light on, the plane is pitch black on the night flight. Last time the guy next to me fell asleep with his screen pointing towards me. I was bathed in its light for the duration. I just thought "oh well".

mama Have a lovely break, I'm very jealous. I really miss Europe!

I've got no idea how often DS feeds during the day, that's bad. I'm going to time it today, but it's probably too often!

One of the good things about being here is the lacks of HVs! Grin You can see a nurse in the childhood centre if you like, but they don't come round and generally leave you to it. The midwife came round a lot during the pregnancy and after.

SpottyTeacakes · 01/03/2013 00:59

Two hourly tonight then......Hmm

IsThatTrue · 01/03/2013 04:06

2blessed it's bloody ridiculous! He isn't even 3 months old yet. That was against the advice from. 8 years ago when I had dd! And we've had a conversation about it when u said the WHO and government recommend 6 months. although I knew this was coming as that was met with 'my god you (DH) and your brother would have starved by 6 months Hmm

I'm going to spend the next 3 months wanting to kill my MIL aren't I?!

Bad night to go with our bad day yest, I'm knackered. Roll on the weekend!

WLmum · 01/03/2013 04:30

Oh dear, going back down seems not to be high on the agenda tonight :-(

Chloe55 · 01/03/2013 04:40

Same here spotty I feel so sleep deprived, more so than when she was a newborn Sad wlmum EnvyEnvyEnvyEnvy

Chloe55 · 01/03/2013 04:41

That was obviously to your waking once comment, not the not going back down one! Smile

2blessed · 01/03/2013 04:44

Ds clamped to boob, again!

Chloe55 · 01/03/2013 04:46

Dd does look very cute though, it's a good job really Wink

I'm also Envy at the Amsterdam trip, hope you have a lovely time.

willyou don't you just hate people butting in with their very much unwanted opinions? Tell your mil to politely fuckoffkeep her nose out.

Chloe55 · 01/03/2013 04:48

Last comment was to isthat, not willyou god it's too early....

utopian99 · 01/03/2013 05:13

I'm very much of the listen to the good stuff, ignore the rubbish, camp. V lucky that MIL either has no strong views or is tactful enough to have decided you let the mother decide, not tell someone how to raise their own baby. They were really good at not butting in while we were wedding planning too though - interested but not imposing opinions.

Have been killing time on this last feed looking up Oscha wrap slings. Beautiful and yet SO gallopingly expensive. Sad Might save up/have an ebay flogging spree as we have 4 weddings coming up..

And on feeding I'd say O is still 1.5-2hrs in the day?

MaMaPo · 01/03/2013 05:23

Oh lord. C took a while to get down but probably asleep by 11, and woke at 6. I am baffled. I am going to overwhelm her with airports more often. She woke a few times but I didn't rush and she fell asleep again. This is astonishing.

All you with bad nights have permission to throw eggs at me. I'll be back in your ranks soon enough.

utopian99 · 01/03/2013 05:26

Oh and first night where we put him down in his hammock before our bedtime! Had a bit of a snuggle in front of the tv like pre-baby, really nice but felt odd not being in the same room and knowing no one was in with him. V pfb of me - but he was fast asleep, monitor on, and stayed that way from10ish to 1.30, which we totally failed to capitalise on as didn't go to bed till 12. Silly parents...

utopian99 · 01/03/2013 05:27

Hurrah for sleep mama!

MaMaPo · 01/03/2013 05:33

Utopian, I was equally pfb first time we put c to bed before us. I kept saying to my husband 'but she's never been alone before!' Of course she was fine.

OP posts:
SpottyTeacakes · 01/03/2013 05:57

I go to bed at the same time as ds Blush

Dd's been up with a temp but was well enough to ask dp to read her a story Hmm he's ended up sleeping in her room.

Wow mama she must have been tired!
