mrsh I think i would have told him, that if he feels guilty, then that's cos he knows he's being inadequate. Wink

eng poor you. Hope you feel better soon.

climbing good news on your ds.

Well my dp was in ireland last week, he's in isle of man now til fri, and he's away for 3 days next week! Might as well have stayed in the chuffing navy at this rate............

ClimbingPenguin · 11/03/2013 17:19

we're find with that side of things duck we got a letter from social services (Well two in fact) saying they were taking no action but that the incident was now on their files. They took x-rays again today and say it's looks to be healing fine. We have to go again in two weeks as they want to see him walking and back to normal before discharging. I completely forgot to ask if it is OK to sling him and whether I can use our nappies or not.

Engels I feel shivery, snotty, even my toes ache today :( Did you send it over with the wind? Grin

P has it and was up for 2 hours twice last night, then I couldn't get back to sleep, wanted to die at 6am this morning. Am now in bed, which is AMAZING, i never do that (maybe I should more often).

Climbing how do they tell if a toddler is walking normally, they walk like ET anyway Grin ?

SassyIt probably wouldn't be worth my babysitting you'll be back by 9.30pm anyway Grin Plus I probably couldn't push the bungalow anyway.

Pene couldn't Oliver be his middle name, as it sort of matches Jack iykwim?

ClimbingPenguin · 11/03/2013 19:33

true but he can't walk at all yet. They seem to use you as a baseline i.e. what you say they could do.

climbing night for me after a hard day. You know those days where everyone is a bit grumpy i.e. monday Grin

have a provisional start date for the job, just waiting for the all official stuff to come in the post.

strawberrypenguin · 11/03/2013 19:40

He's fine thanks duck he was off nursery for a week in all had two really bad nights during that time but was pretty good about not scratching. He's still got the marks from the spots at the moment but all the scans have fallen off Smile

Glad the leg is healing well climbing

I wouldn't worry too much about a name being popular pene although I can see why you want a name to 'go with' A's. William is always in the top 10 but I have yet to meet another who will be in his year group! Plus we call him Billy most of the time anyway Grin

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 11/03/2013 22:33

How come every night, just as I'm going to bed, the baby monitor starts to beep and beep and beep and BLOODY BEEP cause its lost the signal? It's driving me mad and I can't get it to stop ConfusedAngry

sassy34264 · 12/03/2013 07:19

Tis tragic true cheshire Wink

I've noticed eng seems to get everything 1st and then it hits the rest of us Grin

We are green noses galore this morning.

PenelopeLane · 12/03/2013 09:20

I was sick last week so here's hoping it doesn't come to this household ... hope you get better engels, you seem to have had a terrible run of luck health wise.

A had a milestone, his first 'I want to watch TV' tantrum. A bit of a surprise as he hasn't actually watched it more than a handful of times, but had a tanty nonetheless

Engelsemama · 12/03/2013 18:49

Blush at all ill people. Hope you're feeling better soon. have just stocked up on strepsils and cough syrup. I am on the mend (was back at work today) but DH has been feeling rotten. MIL and FIL are both ill (MIL looked really bad when I popped round to ask her if she needed anything at the supermarlet earlier and they've had the GP out). M had a temperature this evening and managed to whack his face against the wall/his teeth so has gone to bed with a bloody lip this eve. He is a complete snot bag so fx he's well enough to go to nursery tomorrow because I cannot have any mroe time of work

All of my colleagues who have children have been telling me that it's completely normal the first couple of years, but honestly I have never been ill so much in my life, even during my PGCE year and in my first year of teaching. There is definitely something in the air right now and this eternal winter is not helping. Sunshine please!

AwkwardAnnie · 12/03/2013 21:02

Cheshire Glad I'm not the only one who sees the similarities with ET. I love coving S up with a towel as he totters around. DH has never ever seen ET* so just thinks I'm mad.
*(he wasn't allowed to as a kid, so refuses to now)

I think we're starting with illness here. S seems okay (so far) but DD took herself to bed at 6 after refusing her tea... it was pizza too! He friend had come round over after tea, DD was flaked out on the settee at the time, but she said she'd play, they went upstairs and she flaked out on her bed instead. About 10 minutes later her friend came back down saying she wanted to go home because DD was falling asleep.... then she told me DD had been ill at school all day, going to the toilet lots and saying she'd got butterflies in her tummy. DD is rubbish at telling us about her day at school. I found out more about their day in 2 minutes from her friend than I'd ever find out from DD.

Engels we've got a fat lip here today too. As well as the poorly tummy DD has come home with 2 bumped head notes, one for her head where she ran into a friend, one for her teeth after a little boy stood up in front of her while she was bent over. She has a fat lip and bloody front teeth.

S had a couple of nights of good sleep, only waking once. Last night he only woke once, but he refused to go back into his cot! So he ended up sleeping on me on the sofa.
CC during the day is going okay, yesterday DH rocked him for a couple of minutes to reassure him, he was shattered so fell asleep from just that. Today he put him straight in the cot he cried for 10 minutes then flaked out.
He was asleep tonight after about 10 minutes so I'm wondering if he's getting ill too. Hmm

TallyBear · 12/03/2013 21:45

Hi all,

Just scanned through quickly. Hope everyone had a lovely mothers day. (Confused at the bag MrsH, did he explain the thinking behind it?!)

Dh was running the Longleat half marathon on Sunday so it was up at 7am and wandering round in the cold for hours waiting for him to finish, not my idea of a great mother's day. They made spectators buy a ticket but nothing opened until 10am (race started at 9am) but all the things that Seb would have enjoyed (the little train and boat) didn't start until 11am, when dh was due to finish. Then Seb came out in awful red blotches. Two visits to doctors, and a day off from childminder yesterday) later we find out it is urticaria (like hives) brought on most likely from the cold! :(. I got a card and an engraved silver spoon. :). We're going out for brunch or dinner this weekend instead.

Cheshire I know some the same age as ours who are already in beds. I think it's too early. Seb moves about all over the place and tends to end up squashed in a corner so I think would just fall out.

Pen have you had your scan yet? Sorry, lost track.

Sorry for all those feeling ill :(

ClimbingPenguin · 12/03/2013 22:03

Moved DS back into the cot today (with the illness/dehydration and the broken leg it has been a while). Also going to cut back to pre-illness breastfeeds now his pain relief has come down so much. At lunch time he went off without me in the room. I didn't leave until he got to a settled state, but very promising this end.

I am going away on May bank holiday with two/three friends to do some mountain walking in Scotland. They were over tonight and we have booked some accommodation which is exciting. I think DH will need the day after I get back off work in order to recover. I would like DS to be night weaned by then, down to morning and evening feed, but I know it doesn't take much for that not to happen. Just hoping we get through a week relatively normally.

Took W on his first visit to the dentist today, he did really well actually let the dentist see in his mouth and didn't bite her Grin I had great fun filling out his medical form though, never before have I had to answer 'yes' to so many of the questions on one of those and then explain why. I suspect they may have to do some googling anyway as they didn't give you much explanation space so I used just the names of some of the stuff he's had/had done rather than explain them in full.

I thought everyone had seen ET annie!

Hope everyone is feeling a bit better today

PenelopeLane · 14/03/2013 08:18

What age are we supposed to take them to the dentist? It never occurred to me tbh Blush

Tally no not yet, it's on Monday, I can't wait. My belly is sticking out and it's becoming a hard secret to keep, although at least I've stopped feeling motion sick all the time and dog tired in the evenings, just normal again. Plus, looking forward to the comfort of knowing things are ok (touch wood).

Climbing that mountain walking sounds fab. Do you do much of it? Is that a silly question due to your user name? DH and I used to love getting into the outdoors, but haven't managed any real walking in Scotland apart from a scurry up some rocks in Skye.

sassy34264 · 14/03/2013 12:05

pene I think it's around 3. HV push you to take them at around 12-18months, but i read somewhere that most dentists won't see them until 3. (i could be wrong)

Scotland? Am i getting the p posters mixed up again? Are you not in NZ? Confused just for me!

strawberrypenguin · 14/03/2013 13:06

Not sure what age your should take them but a dentist near us had NHS spaces (like gold dust round here!) so I signed all three of us up fast! They saw him quite happily.

PenelopeLane · 14/03/2013 19:05

sassy yes in NZ now, but was in the UK a few years ago Smile

ClimbingPenguin · 14/03/2013 19:22

basically dentists determine when you start. Like sassy says a lot of them don't accept them until 3. DD has had 6 monthly ones since about 22 months. We double book, she sits on my lap while I have mine done, then her turn. At this age they just count teeth and have a quick visual inspection to get them used to it.

I have done a bit of Scotland and have now decided to make a active effort to get the Munro's done. I have done 38 and have a target of 8 a year while the family are young.

OP posts:
AwkwardAnnie · 14/03/2013 22:38

I took S to the dentist last month (and DD and myself.) They just counted all his teeth and told me his last 2 are on their way through. I've a few friends who are dentists and they'd rather children go as early as possible to get them used to going. They don't do anything beyond count teeth, but the gradual introduction reduces the likelihood of them being scared when they start getting them cleaned when they're older.

DD needed 2 fillings and I was mortified. Apparently one is that bad that it may get infected and need to come out. I haven't been good and taken her because she's petrified of anything medical. She won't even take Calpol. But we are very good at cleaning teeth... I thought! At Christmas I banned sweets from Grandparents. Actually I said they could carry on using the "I'm a Grandparent, it's my job to spoil her and give her sweets" on the condition that they also took her to the dentist to have her fillings done.... the sweets have stopped. Grin
She's due an eye test on Monday, she wears glasses and she'll need eye drops in for this test. They'll sting. She remembers this from last time. DH has to take her. She's already saying she doesn't want eye drops and I'm arming DH with bribing tactics to get her to co-operate.

TallyBear · 15/03/2013 21:13

Dh had to take Seb with him for his last dentist appointment (Seb got a sticker!) and the dentist said they start to see them about 2 years. Seb doesn't mind having his teeth brushed and loves to watch me brush mine in the morning, but he prefers when we do his in front of the mirror and he can see. That novelty may wear off one day!

Pen hope all goes well on Monday.

Hope the illness are starting to recede.

MrsHende · 16/03/2013 07:02

We had a visit from a dental person when L was tiny, like 12 weeks or something. She then said to register her with a dentist as soon as possible and then take her from 6 month, just whenever I was going for a check-up and they would put her in the chair and chat to her too just to get her used to

Anyone got nice plans for the weekend? We're off to our wee singing class this morning then hoping to start house hunting in earnest. We finally sold DH's old flat, which has been on the market for 2 years! So now we have a chance to try and buy some place a bit bigger, hooray!

PenelopeLane · 16/03/2013 07:19

Thanks Tally!

Mrs we don't really have plans except am expecting rain - which is actually a good thing as we've just been declared a drought zone after a summer that felt fabulous until it turned into a drought! Which is very unusual for where I live.

Good luck with house hunting!

Engelsemama · 16/03/2013 07:36

Still lurking with the lurgy. All 3 of us still coughing and sneezing like there's no tomorrow.

M's lip has sorted itself out now but where he bumped his nose is sore and red where he's dripping snot all the time. Ouch.

I was supposed to be doing a 5k race tomorrow at an open air museum but no way I am fit enough (and have no training for nearly 2 weeks). DM and DF arrived yesterday so they will be over later but that's about as exciting as my weekend gets!

Re: dentist, over here they say 2 years, but we took M with us when we had our last appt and let him sit in the chair.

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 16/03/2013 08:05

Yes we had visit from dental nurse when S was young to and she advised taking her with me at 6 month checks. I need to book a checkup for myself sometime next week so I'll bring her with me. S loves brushing her teeth and opens wide to say 'aaaaaaaa' so I can do it Grin

Mrsh- great news about the house! Where are you hoping to move to? The market in Scotland has been awful the past few years. I bought when things were cheap for 1st time buyers but even now if I decided to sell, I'd be set to loose so much so I'm staying put. I'd like to be in a new home by the time S is due to start school as I'm not keen on any around here.. Blush

Not much going on here this weekend. S had a few bad nappies yesterday and is still stuffed with the cold. I'm working for few hours later then friends coming over tonight for dinner.

Pen- good luck for Monday Smile

ClimbingPenguin · 16/03/2013 09:31

DS had no nights feeds last night and took himself to sleep for nap and evening. (still woke loads but I reckon that will change). The going off to sleep by himself was what we were about to try before the whole illness/leg few weeks.
