Oh no Engels!! Wine
I'm working so sil is dealing with S tonight!

Engelsemama · 14/04/2013 19:54

M is now asleep. Think DH's new nickname is 'the baby whisperer'. Although, I'm feeling pretty knackered after all the outside time I've had this weekend (running and gardening) so I actually might go to bed myself soon Blush

My day off tomorrow and am planning on spending it in the garden as well (with maybe a few detours to garden centres). M's face was amazing earlier - let loose outside at last. So great not to have to run after him as he bolts for the street. When he gets up in the morning the first thing he want to do is look out the window and point at everything, 'there! there!'.

I should do some schoolwork but I'm not going to.

ClimbingPenguin · 14/04/2013 21:04

DS has slept through twice this week now :)

Last night I got 6 hours uninterrupted sleep and have felt great today.

OP posts:
MummyDuckAndDuckling · 14/04/2013 22:08

My dad done the same at their house recently. Huge garden but so many exits so he spent a Sunday building gates for them all so now she has free run! Although, there is a fish pond but she hasn't noticed it properly just yet. Should be fun!

Great about the sleeping cp! Hope it continues.

Engelsemama · 15/04/2013 08:29

M was crying at about 1.30 this morning. Think he woke himself up coughing. Then I couldn't get back to sleep and started coughing. Going to be a lazy day today...

PenelopeLane · 15/04/2013 09:49

Just got back from holiday - which was fab! Now going back to catch up on thread ..

LittlePebble · 15/04/2013 21:57

Pen hope you had a good time? How did the return flight go?

CP 6 hrs is great (trying not to Envy you as I know it's been a long time coming!)

Sassy thank you I'm hoping we get a long spell of no sickness and lots if sleep I feel it's definitely due.

E is still not great up every hour after midnight last night and still diarrhoea but he's quite bright in himself so hoping he'll have a better night.

Just watching news about Boston marathon it's awful Sad

PenelopeLane · 16/04/2013 08:37

The return flight went really well - we did 4 flights in total (home to Sydney and back, then a return to Adelaide) and they were a breeze. Which is a surprise as we did a one hour domestic flight in Feb which was a nightmare! I think the things that helped were:

  • good luck
  • flights being timed for sleep times (he slept on every flight)
  • buying some new special toys/books that got pulled out of the bag right when things threatened to turn
  • more good luck
  • Extra good luck as on every flight we got a spare seat beside us
  • Sitting by the window. Seriously. I noticed that having the aisle seat was much harder as A would look all around and want to get down, whereas when we were at the window it didn't seem to occur to him. I realised that quickly and had him at the window every other time.

am interested in other's tips as well - as said a lot above, I am fully aware that there was probably a good amount of luck involved, so don't want to get too smug!

Yes very sad about Boston, am watching it on the news too

Engelsemama · 16/04/2013 11:40

Gaaah! Ill again. taken the day off work, have been wrapped up on sofa but wireless not working so no laptop (Think it's a good tactic - chair in office v.uncomfortable so less tempted to spend the entire day on MN). Determined not to go back until I'm better - have not taken any sick days so far in 2013 despite having flu twice!

Glad to hear you had a good holiday pen

Hope E is feeling better soon.

We finally have a gate with working ctach and everything so M can play outside in the garden

Have been watchign the news about Boston (didn't see it till this morning). So sad.

Now off to carry on lying on the sofa with kindle (have just started Game of Thrones...have watched first season but saw a thread about the books on here).

Hope everyone is well. x

sassy34264 · 16/04/2013 13:35

Oh engels You must be really run down. Good idea to stay off until you are better.

Saw the Boston news properly this morning. So sad and scary. Got a bit choked when one of the runners said the news had passed back to people running, and the ones who had family waiting at the finish line started screaming. It's just your worst nightmare. Sad

On a more positive note. I have just booked 2 thirds of my mum's 60th birthday present. A scalp, back and facial massage at the blu radisson in manchester and then lunch at the hilton. Cost a small fortune but my brother's going halves and i've never had a massage before. It's for 1 and a half hours, so i'm expecting to either fall asleep or be the trebor man when i leave. Grin

Going to finish off with the comedy club at night time.

And best of all dp has to stay at home to watch the kids!!!!

Pay back for the mil birthday lunch fiasco! Wink

strawberrypenguin · 16/04/2013 15:56

pen glad you had a nice holiday great that the flights went so well Smile

Pebble hope E feels better soon

eng hope you feel better soon too. Let me know what you think of GoT I've watched but not read (btw if you get to watching season 2 the first ep is really nasty DH has strongly suggested I never watch it and I'm not squeemish so I'm taking his advice, seen all the rest though) it's been a series in my 'to read' list for ages I love fantasy books but I've never got to it.

Engelsemama · 17/04/2013 08:01

Still home sick and have decided that I won't go back in this week. Just spoke to my Headteacher and he was lovely. You're right sassy - it's been one illness afetr another in this household over the winter and I've only takena few sick days because I've put myself under pressure to be in school and not get behind. So, this is my body telling me to take it easy. But very annoying as have just got back into the swing of training for my 10k which is less than 6 weeks away.

sassy massage sounds heavenly. I had a pregnancy massage at 7m pg and nearly fell asleep!

Have almost finished the first book strawb and am really enjoying it. It's written in short chapters (good for my attention span post-DS!), rotating perspective from the main characters (Starks, Tyrion Lannister and Daenerys). It's really close to the TV series. Looking forward to reading the second book now which'll be a different experience (sicne I haven't watched it yet).

M is still making a bit of a fuss when he goes to bed (the last week or so). I wonder if it's the change in the clocks that has affected him or his teeth or the cough that I can still hear on his chest.

pen we have our fingers crossed that our flights are not full, though not holding my breath since it will be high season. M has always been quite 'easy' but he's challenging us more ad more - am a bit anxious now about travelling for 24+ hours Shock

ClimbingPenguin · 17/04/2013 09:05

Next winter will be better unless you have dc2 ,I was only ill for the first half this time.

Pebble don't worry it has been a one-off so far. Both children woke twice last night. Dd has been waking three times as her norm.

OP posts:
PenelopeLane · 17/04/2013 09:43

Oh no engels sick again. And am sure M will be fine - 24 hours will hopefully have at least 13 hours of sleep Grin

I was totally addicted to Game of Thrones a few years back. Wish I could read them again for the first time!

Does anyone else have a really really clingy baby? A is so clingy at present. I wondered if it's a phase.

ClimbingPenguin · 17/04/2013 09:54

Ds has been a little more clingy, he certainly cycles round, but ATM after an initial period of being somewhere stuck to me, he will then venture out. He is getting better at me leaving him to sleep at bedtime as well as nap, so maybe he needs me a bit more during awake hours.

Just weighed him (with clothes and nappy) and he is 9.8kg. I think he will shoot up soon as getting a bit chunky. We are at my mum's so he is in disposables and in a full wardrobe of 6-9 month clothing.

OP posts:
MummyDuckAndDuckling · 17/04/2013 10:34

Glad to hear you had a great trip pen!! And glad the flights went well. I need to start getting organised for our trip soon, it's coming sooner than I think! We fly out at 12.30pm so I think after maybe having something to eat she should crack out not long after. Usually naps about 1.30 for over an hour so fingers crossed it might knock her out. Last year when we went she was fine going, it was coming home that messed her sleep up and took over a week to get back to normal.

I've just checked S, she's now 80cm tall and 27lbs4oz. So 25th for height and 91st for weight Grin
She has grown quite a bit in last month. I had to buy her some new leggins and suddenly they were a bit cropped! We are just moving into 18-24 now

strawberrypenguin · 17/04/2013 13:43

W weighed 9.3kg which i think is 20lbish last week and was 79.8cm. He's growing at the moment though just had to buy him new clothes (18-24) and new shoes today.

eng I'll have to get round to reading them then Smile I have so much less time for reading now though I used to read 2-3 books a week now I'm lucky if I fit in 1 a month! Glad your headteacher has been lovely hope you feel better soon.

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 17/04/2013 13:57

Another one here who used to read a lot but I've not looked at a book in so long now! I keep taking one when I'm doing nightshift but I just can't get started on them trying hard not to fall asleep Wink

ClimbingPenguin · 17/04/2013 16:41

I wonder why your ds is approaching 18-24 and mine is getting toward 9-12 months strawberry

OP posts:
Engelsemama · 17/04/2013 18:59

M is a monster! When he was last weighed and measured (3 months ago) he was 82cm and 11.8kg (which is about 26lbs). He's now wearing size 92 rompers, T-shirts and jumpers, a few 96. (over here children's sizes are by height) Trousers still fit better at 86, otherwise I have to roll them up and they fall down, but he does have some 92. As with the UK sizes vary depending on where you get stuff. We are coming over in May and I am going to get some supermarket bargains - so much cheaper over the channel (or maybe I just don't know where to look here).

You've reminded me that we're due our next HV/consultatiebureau visit. They were supposed to get in touch with us about an appointment as for some reason they wouldn't book it this far ahead. Should give them a call.

I think the clue to why M is so big may lie with DH's genes climbing. DH is 2metres tall and his "little" brother is even taller. At 5"5 I feel like a pygmy sometimes!

Finished Game of Thrones today and have downloaded the next one on my kindle. Really enjoyed it and having some peace and quiet today to actually read it helped Since M was born DH and I have become even lamer with our bed time. We're regularly in bed at 9.30 and almost never head upstairs after 10.30. We both read for at least half an hour before we turn out the lights - DH reads comics and graphic novels on his tablet. he's never been much of a reader so it's good to see him enjoying it. I reckon before he got his tablet he had probably read about 4 books the whole time we'd been together. Since his depression has returned the last few years he's also had problems with concentration, so small chunks works betetr for him too. I can't read the same types of books I used to pre-M though, unless I have a M-free day (whihc doesn't happen very often). have been trying to read a book on translation that my Dsis got me for Christmas and it's too heavy and academic - I keep falling asleep half wasy through a page.

But I've been keeping track of how many books I read this year (inspired by the 50 books in 2013 thread) and am up to nearly 20 already. Some re-reads, some YA fiction (my favourite), random stuff I got in the Kindle sale in January. I have a backlog of about 15 books to read and yet I'm still buying books .

Oops, this is rather a long post!

strawberrypenguin · 17/04/2013 19:35

Odd how different they all are isn't it climbing I've no idea why! W isn't even a particularly big eater although he's always loved his fruit (he must be growing he's eaten an entire tub of raspberries to himself today and did the same yesterday!) He's quite slim though and we have trouble with trouser waists a lot. He seems to grow up not out.

strawberrypenguin · 17/04/2013 19:36

20 books is good going eng I like a good bit of YA sometimes too you can find some really good stuff there.

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 17/04/2013 19:45

I'm still struggling here to get S to eat fruit/veg unless its in something. Only fruit she will eat 'as it is' is banana. She went through a phase of loving blueberries but now they are just spat out. Same with kiwi, plums etc, however she loves those 'organix fruit pots' so I usually give her one of those with her breakfast. I guess her taste buds are changing.
She's not a fan of eating much raw veg, but will happily eat if in food. She had fish pie tonight that I'd added leeks, peas and sweetcorn into. I will just keep offering but when it starts getting thrown across the room, I start seeing red Angry

I'm 5ft 7 and her dad is 6ft so I guess she will be a fair height. It's funny, she just totally looks like a toddler now rather than a baby Sad

strawberrypenguin · 17/04/2013 20:01

I was thinking that about W earlier duck he's not quite there yet but he's a lot more 'toddler' than 'baby'. Didn't even take the pushchair to town with us earlier he walked most of it with a little bit of a carry when his legs got too tired.

ClimbingPenguin · 17/04/2013 20:06

I wam surprised with that weight he is in such large clothing, funny how proportions make a difference. Dd is in 18-24 clothes and she weighs 12.8kg at 3.1 years of age.

My sil is in labour.

duck dd eats fruit but not veggies. Ds eats a little bit of most things, but he didn't fruit until he was one. I only give up to a teaspoon of stuff now, until I have worked out if they are in a eating mood, and if so what bits if dinner they are eating. Ds especially will start throwing it but 5 mins later when I've assumed he is all done will suddenly start eating and scoff loads.
