daisy Shock

Elizadoesdolittle · 17/02/2013 22:11

blonder sorry I have very little knowledge about CMPI so have no advice but just wanted to give you a big virtual hug.

Had a lovely afternoon at Greenwich park with the DD's and my sis. Was lovely to see some sun.

Day one without DH done and survived. E is fast asleep on me so going to attempt to get her in the Moses basket for part one of the night. Night all.

YellowWellies · 17/02/2013 22:11

Daisy YANBU IVF or no I'd have slapped her for that comment!!!

Passmethecrisps · 17/02/2013 22:12

Hallo,

This weaning chat leads me to a question I have about my sister's wee boy.

He is 2 days older than P making him 14 weeks old. He was 7Ib at birth. He is being weighed fairly regularly (I have no idea at whose request) and he is 14.9Ibs. She has suggested that the health professionals think he is being over fed and have told her to feed every 4 hours. He is on hungry baby milk. I have no idea where the preoccupation with his weight comes from. She herself is overweight and has battled for years with this. She often recounts feeling as though the only thing people (doctors particularly) are interested in is her weight - because of this I don't know if anyone is actually saying to her that he is too big or if it is her perception.

I am starting to get a bit concerned as she now seems to think that weaning early will be the answer to her problems. It is worth noting that the problem appears to be that he wants fed about every 3 hours.

How can she feed him as often as he wants fed while managing his weight gain?

My feeling is that at this age you feed when hungry - simple as that. Her HV, however, seems to be suggesting a feeding schedule. He does tend to eat until being sick most feeds.

Sorry for the rambles - does it make sense? What are your thoughts?

Passmethecrisps · 17/02/2013 22:19

daisy that comment is likely to e something which will make her wince in years to come. How utterly thoughtless.

We were in Waitrose today. We got £77 of stuff for £20! Lots of delicious Heston Blumenthal meals for £0.99. Awesome. Might we have been rubbing shoulders with you YW?

MissMummy1 · 17/02/2013 22:20

Lovely house yw - dp says check roofspace for mushrooms but it looks straight enough from the pics.

VQ some mums at yoga were raving about the granules after no success with infacol/dentinox. Definitely worth a shot.

Pass very true re commutes becomming second nature if you do them long enough. At the time I thought nothing of a 300 mile round trip every day. Now the idea fills me with dread! (I was a bit mad then and driving a 13 year old car that ran on used cooking oil...)

GP tomorrow to see what they're going to do about her hernia. ..

Evilwater · 17/02/2013 22:20

Pass -HV are mystery to me. The one I saw on Wednesday about the Colic, surgested I feed him 2oz every two hours, for about two weeks (there is no fucking way I'm going back to that, and I don't think DS would like being woken up too).

So I'm feeding him 5 oz stop and then wind him, then feed again till he is satisfied.

I'm sorry I'm not much help pass.
Evil

Passmethecrisps · 17/02/2013 22:26

You know what that sounds like evil? Sounds like Gina Ford. She believes that colic is caused by feeding on demand. She suggests that parents swap out some milk feeds for sugar water. It was at this point in the book that I stopped paying as much attention. My HV now essentially defers to me now bizarrely - certainly to do with reflux or CMPI. I was obviously being all lioness for a while.

YellowWellies · 17/02/2013 22:48

pass I was shrieking with delight at finding three different sandwiches I could eat - a record! We also smuggled a small boy in a yellow star blanket with shitty pants to the baby change! Did you spot us? Grin

Contradictionincarnate · 17/02/2013 22:52

garden three!! wow ...Shock congratulations to the family!!Smile

yw gorgeous house! what a price! something like that here would be 250k tempted often to move further up the valleys for a little more space but I love my village and my house!

Contradictionincarnate · 17/02/2013 22:57

oh meant to say my hall is the same red too! I think its lucky!, Grin

Passmethecrisps · 17/02/2013 23:00

I should buy them up for you YW and post them to you. I did not see any little yellow star with shitty pants. We bought so much stuff we has to take the carry cot off the pram, pile everything in then put it back on. I was standing there with the carry cot and no wheels looking like I had forgotten something important

Jims · 17/02/2013 23:58

pass i have a friend with a son a week older than ds1. He was formula fed huge amounts and she always got faces off the hv, prob as she is overweight. Much less so if her husband took him.
He just grew up tall fast, he's still a good head above mine but has slimmed down a lot in the last year (2-3). He was just hungry, he eats a lot of (v healthy) food now too.

Jims · 18/02/2013 00:00

I get faces off the hvs too as my big babies fall down the centiles. I'd prefer it of they didn't drop but really do think they're born above where tey're supposed to be. Can't win really unless you have a miracle baby that tracks a line nicely and how likely is that considering it's an average of 1000s

StuntNun · 18/02/2013 00:17

Pass your friend's baby was born on the 25th percentile and is now slightly above the 50th percentile. It doesn't exactly scream alarm bells does it? They don't seem to take into account that nutrition in the womb and post-birth can be quite different. For example a diabetic mother may have a big baby but that baby won't necessarily stay that way once he's feeding on his own and doesn't have an excess of glucose to deal with. I'm sure J will have moved up a percentile at his weigh in next month but he was a week overdue and only 6 lb 15 oz where we were expecting him to be 8 lb or so given how late he was. I think he's making up for poor growth in the last few weeks of gestation and getting back to where he should have been all along.

pass my dr in Beijing (aussie paed) told me there is no such thing as a fat baby. DD raced up the percentiles and DS has done the same. Both fed on demand. Both I removed from the breast once the stopped actively feeding (ie started to go suck suck suck, pause, pause, pause, suck, suck, suck, paaauuuuuuuuuuuse, suck, pauuuuuse).

My dr did try to get me to feed DD on a schedule but she had worked in a sleep centre in Aus so was VERY big on baby sleep and feed routines. It sent me potty tbh and I'm quite convinced interfered with bonding with DD as I was going bonkers with when she should be awake or asleep or fed. Once I ignored everything and just let her sleep and feed when she wanted we both were MUCH happier.

DS feeds every 3 hours. I don't give a monkeys stuff if this is "too often" as we're both happy.

Thechick · 18/02/2013 01:19

What normally takes about 15 mins just took over an hour due to morrisons and their leaking nappies. My mum kindly bought us some Morrison branded nappies even though that's not what we normally buy. During the day they've leaked about 50 percent of the time but at night they leak really badly. Dh had to do a full clothing change and the cot was wet too. Looks like the LO is completely asleep yet. Boo!!

ComradeJing · 18/02/2013 01:29

Oh bugger Chick, what a pain. I've been trying different cheap ones on Ds and so far have found he needs an expensive one overnight but cheapies are fine for the day.

Postmans just come and my properly fitting bra has come!! Yay! My boobs are back in correct position again. It's a 32F and they had to take the back in by an inch or so to get it to fit properly. Being small of rib is a very expensive bugger.

ValiumQueen · 18/02/2013 02:09

4 hours 15 sleep so cannot complain. Good to hear something positive about the granules.

Does anyone seem to wake up a few minutes before baby? I do. He is in another room and the monitor we have does not pick up every little snuffle either.

ValiumQueen · 18/02/2013 02:10

Washable nappies rarely let me down. Even DH can put them on now.

Contradictionincarnate · 18/02/2013 02:41

oh my vq this really is the wrong time of day for me! I have been catching up and seeing nappy disasters bought dd next size today ready for when needed thinking she changes sooo much ...and when you said your dh puts washable nappies on I thought you meant ... he wears them! was thinking I know they have a big range but he must be thin!

ps. I am genuinely interested in what nappies you use (sorry if you have said before) being environmentally friendly is very important to me but convenience equally so (bought disposable bottles of ff today to carry around with me for emergency feeds).
I have looked at reusable nappies a lot but can't get my head around what I need also don't want to try a local trial I know I wouldn't be good at that!

Pikz · 18/02/2013 03:08

I completely agree with the fact that some babies are not born the weight they should have been. My LO should have been much heavier I'm sure but due to being a V breech he was very small. He has now shot from 9th to 90th percentile and was completely breast fed til this week. His dad is 6ft7 so he will be a big boy I'm sure.

Bryzoan · 18/02/2013 03:29

Daisy - I'm stunned by your friend's comment. If someone said that to me even now I'd struggle not to lose it, and it's 2.5 yrs since dd was in Nicu! It is about the least restful experience I have ever been through.

Comrade - I get that too. Dm said "good job he is a boy, the rate he is gaining at" the other day. Nothing like starting a bit of gender stereotyping early eh? I am just glad he looks and seems really healthy. Have mostly managed to dodge our hv and have no idea what he weighs now, but he was 12lb at 6 week check - tracking his centile - so even centile tracking isn't enough to keep everyone happy. It took dd 6 months to get to 12lb so I am really enjoying not worrying about it this time.

Both Dcs are in danger of being listed on eBay tonight. G took till nearly midnight to settle, then dd woke with an attack of the lonelies which seemed to last til g woke for a feed shortly after 2. He now seems to think it's the morning and keeps trying to charm his way out of his cot with chat and winning smiles. A month ago they were both sleeping so well! Monkeys. I'm shattered. Dh unfortunately has man flu so has spent today telling me how tired he is despite doing no night wakings and lying in till 10 today. I might put him on eBay too...

ValiumQueen · 18/02/2013 03:36

contra I nearly put 'on baby not DH' so my fault.

Been trying to settle the little sod for a hour and a half. Been doing the banana shape, arching back, screaming, shoving his fist in his gob. Had to wake DH for a break as I was beginning to lose it. 4 hours is great but I am fucking shattered now.

Washable nappies have advantages and disadvantages and need a more awake mummy to explain. I get pissed off with them every now and then, and have a sposie break, I then get pissed off with the leaks and nappy rash and go back to washables. Also clothes can be an issue as they are bulkier. Even with a sposie on he is in 9-12 gros as he is so long in body but the 3-6 tops and trousers seem mostly ok even with a washable. Bit tight depending on cut. I have got the 6-9 clothes out and washed. He is just 4 months. Whatever you do, do not spend a fortune on them. I will message you with some suggestions. I have just ordered some leopard print ones to cheer me up.

DS is thinking about settling. Thank fuck. It is not his fault but I wonder when this sleep depravation nightmare will end.

ValiumQueen · 18/02/2013 03:39

bry sorry to hear about your bad night. Attack of the lonelies made me smile.
