Yawn! Should really be spending today outside in this lovely sunshine, but am too tired. Tommy still having 2 night feeds, but thankfully he settles immediately afterwards. He went into a cot this week instead of sleeping on top of me and settled in it straight away, he self settles too which is brilliant Grin

Det What a plank! I know men can't even imagine how multitasking is done, but this fella sounds like he's just stepped out of his animal skins. Does he hunt and cook on a campfire still?

VQ Glad you're finally getting some sleep, I remember how hard it was when my 3 were all small.

horseylady · 17/02/2013 14:41

To everyone - what garden says. Exactly how I felt.

Det - ds vom much worse sat up.

In middle of lambing and on own till Tuesday doing it.....so far two twins (one set stuck) and triplets. I have much more sympathy when i have my hand up a sheep trying to find different legs. Then pulling two lambs out. Needless to say I let the sheep stay laying down rather than forcing her to stand.

blonderedhead · 17/02/2013 15:14

Do any of the CMPI people know how soon we should see a difference? DH and I are at our wits' end. I've realised I start to dread L waking up as I know the screaming will start again. Every bfeed is a wrestling match interspersed with yelling. I've just begged DH not to go to work tomorrow but he has to. I know that really. I just can't bear to see L so unhappy.

I'm sorry I know I just post all this self pitying crap but I feel like I can't go on. DH tries to do everything but it just makes me feel worse like I've failed. I love L so much it's making my heart break that we can't enjoy these times. I'm exhausted. Sorry.

blonderedhead · 17/02/2013 15:19

Sorry ignore that.

glendathefedupwitch · 17/02/2013 15:31

garden shame the hospital didn't support you but it sounds like you are doing what is best for you and your family - which is all any if us can do!!!

blonde is LO on meds? Are they not working?? Hugs for all three of you - it must be heartbreaking for you seeing LO in pain x

horsey awwww memories of me being 5 yrs old watching my dad with the ewes then being given the v important job of feeding an orphaned lamb!!

The sun is shining so we piled in the car with the dog, drove 10 miles to take her for a walk n swim and it was thick fog and freezing so we chucked her in for a quick 15 minute swim and then back home as we'd only grabbed fleeces and were frozen!!!

Does anyone else's LO get hysterical in the car??? It can either settle her and get her to sleep or send her hysterical with screaming abdabs - like she's being murdered - we race home get her out thinking she's starving or dirty bum but once out she just laughs at us!!!! Our road trip to Cornwall is gonna be fun!!

blonderedhead · 17/02/2013 15:32

Do any CMPI people know if I need to avoid soy lecithin as well as other soy ingredients? Just realised the nice nakd bars I've been enjoying have soy lecithin as a thickener, as does my porridge among other things. It's not clear from googling whether I should avoid, so wondered what others did? Some websites said it's not the soy protein so don't bother.

Donnadoon · 17/02/2013 16:07

blonder I have no advice on what food contains what but it sounds exhausting in itself trying to find out that sort of info. You are not self pitying or a failure be kind to yourself x

TheTiger · 17/02/2013 16:47

VQ yes he is on gaviscon, he has ranitidine too. It could be that last night was a flare up of reflux, but I hadn't done anything different with his meds so I'm not sure. It's just so hard in the middle of the night isn't it!

pass I think he is showing all signs of teething. Chewing anything and everything, pouring in dribble - he is soaking through so many dribble bibs! He is 4 months now, so I think about the right age to start teething?

MM your day sounds lovely! It's a gorgeous sunny day here too, sunny skies make everything seem a bit better i think!! And I still have DS in his carrycot but I've hung a dangly toy from the hood which he seems to like. He is supposed to stay in there til 6 months, but he's so tall that I don't think he will make that long!

*eliza pm'd you - thank you Thanks

blonder sorry you are having a tough time. I have no experience with CMPI but I hope things get better for you soon.

Why is it so hard to resist junk food when you are knackered?? I've got a gorgeous dress to wear in 3 weeks and I would like to be a few pounds lighter. I need will power and self control. I've been avoiding the wibbly tummies thread but I'm gong to get back in there!

Kyzordz · 17/02/2013 16:57

Just a quickie but couldn't read and run, blonder we all vent/spill on here I think and that's what we're here for, so if you need to let it all out at us, do so. You dont always moan and so what if you did? I for one don't mind, I only wish I could offer something useful for you. It sounds very tough for you and L :( sending hugs, and off to p

Kyzordz · 17/02/2013 16:58

Sorry, meant to finish! Stupid phone!

Off to see what I can find out about soya lectystuff for you, if anything!

StuntNun · 17/02/2013 17:09

Thanks for that perspective *Garden+ it sounds like you had a real battle I'm hospital. It's terrible that feeding causes such intense emotions when all it is is food. My first two were mostly fed from jars and packets of baby food when they were weaned (because they're both food avoiders) but I'm glad there wasn't anyone saying I should have been preparing all their meals from scratch from organic ingredients. The whole Breast is Best campaign seems to have caused more trouble than it has helped mums and babies.

MissLaugh I have the Tiny Love Sooth'n'Groove mobile. It is quite noisy but that doesn't bother James and the characters spin round so it keeps his attention. It also plays about 40 minutes of music without repeating so it doesn't drive you mad with the crappy beepy electronic music like his wretched swing does.

((( H U G S ))) Blonder, that sounds terrible. Can you just have a quiet day tomorrow and ride it out?

I'm no expert on faith, Contra but I think the faith has to come first as a core and then you can mull over your thoughts around that centre. Over time they will change as well. I remember as a child being terrified of the idea that I would die one say but over time I came to understand that humans can't go on and on and on forever and that would actually be worse. We all have to come to terms with religion and mortality and ethics in our own way, guided of course by the church and the Bible if you're a Christian. Sorry about the deep thoughts, just my perspective on things.

ValiumQueen · 17/02/2013 17:16

blonder so sorry you are suffering Thanks would it be an idea to give more formula and express to keep up supply for a little while to give you a break? Also nobody would blame you if you chose FF from herein considering what you are going through, and have been through. He is nearly 4 months and you have done remarkably well x remember this is a safe place where we can say how we really feel and get help hopefully. Is there anyone who can come around tomorrow to help and/or hold your hand? Would seeing the GP or HV help?

ValiumQueen · 17/02/2013 17:34

I think I win the award for worst mummy today.

We went for a walk to see GPs. DD1 falls over and cuts her knee on the way there, DD2 falls over in the house, right on her nose. Ok, none of this was my fault. I know this.

GM always has nappies. I always take nappies just in case. I go to change Js nappy and find out I have picked up the wrong size nappies. GM has no nappies. I use DD2s nappy as I think it fits fairly well. Unfortunately I had not bargained for poonami. He usually poos in the evening, but today decides to do it at 4pm. Unfortunately the size 6 princess pull-up did not contain it. I should have known this!

I thought I had got away with it by taking him to the changing mat immediately, some 3 ft away, but no. Poo drips all over the carpet. It had gone down his trousers and down my top, and down my leg onto the floor.

Children see poo and start screaming. DD1 runs away from it, DD2 walks in it. I get J changed and sponge myself down, whilst apologising profusely to GM as the cream carpet will probably never be the same again.

Walking home, DD2 goes flying and ends up with her nose touching the back wheel of the PnT. Thankfully I did not run her over.

Bit nervous about going out again.

blonderedhead · 17/02/2013 17:45

Thanks again lovely people.

Hopefully my lovely Mum is coming round tomorrow morning. I'm sure if we get a better night's sleep tonight it won't seem too bad. I was just hoping to see some improvement after the change in formula and my diet.

I'm not keen to add more formula at the moment VQ. I do enjoy bf when it's not a fight and normally the night feeds are very calm so I don't know what happened last night. Will try to take one day at a time.

I was given the M&P Whirligig mobile which plays the Brahms Lullaby. It is good for distracting him in the morning while I get dressed but doesn't work as a sleep aid! The tune plays quite fast and loudly and it is wind-up which needs doing frequently as it only lasts a couple of minutes. It's cute and has its uses but I'm not sure I'd recommend it.

YellowWellies · 17/02/2013 17:47

blonder I've been avoiding soy lecithin as the one time I tried it recently DS seemed to have a mild reaction but.... the levels of soy protein in soy lecithin, if any, are minute and v unlikely to cause a reaction so I'm going to try again to see if the crankiness / unsettled behaviour was just coincidence. Its so hard to tell. Confused

Was it you asking about when you should expect to see an improvement in CMPI symptoms? If you're on a good medicine that works for your LO (and my dietician reckoned only omeperazole works for babies that are sensitive enough to detect it in BM) I would say you should notice an improvement in 24 hours that gets better and better - with full efficacy after a fortnight. If you're not seeing that - change meds or look at diet. Diet wise it takes 3-6 weeks of total dietary avoidance of dairy and soy for it to clear both you and LOs systems - cutting down won't help if it is CMPI it has to be total avoidance. It is worth doing as exposure to cows milk in intolerant babies is the 3rd most common cause of anyphlactic (sic?) shock Shock !!!!

Had a lovely sunny day at Stirling castle - sadly the only place we could find soy and dairy free food was Waitrose - not quite the family dinner out but a picnic on the ramparts was lovely!

pass the house we like is on lina St just next to Dunnikier primary - is that near your school?

YellowWellies · 17/02/2013 17:50

Posted twice cos I'm a Muppet! Confused

blonderedhead · 17/02/2013 17:59

Thanks YW. We haven't been prescribed any medication, just Nutramigen AA for his formula feeds and I am cutting out dairy and soy completely. I just wasn't sure about the lecithin as it was in several products I had thought were ok.

When I was ebf I didn't think he had any probs apart from being a bit windy, it was when he started the formula top-ups that the problems began. But he is putting on weight so I can't really stop them, just need to find a way for him to get fatter but also be happy!

Think we will battle on for a few more days and go back to doc if no improvement.

Passmethecrisps · 17/02/2013 18:17

yw dunnikier primary is one of our feeders - same side of town. Lovely area.

blonder that sounds awful. When p got the meds and the milk we saw a a great improvement within a couple of days. There was immediate improvement from the meds then further improvement with the change in milk. I really hope you get some relief for your LO. My heart goes out to you.

I am used to the commute now Mm. Done it for 13 years. There are benefits to living so far from work!

Passmethecrisps · 17/02/2013 18:20

blonder I think CMPI can be a trigger for GERD so once it has started it won't necessarily stop with a change of milk. P gets both meds and milk. Could it be a soy intolerance also? In which case you will need a different formula again

gardenpixie32 · 17/02/2013 18:22

EEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My cousin had her triplets a few hours ago by EMCS at 32+1! Don't know weights yet but it is very exciting!

They are teeny tiny but so cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pikz · 17/02/2013 18:46

LO already asleep in bed. He's had a manic day and is exhausted.

Fingers crossed he's not up for the day at 5.30am!

Garden, thank you for your post. As many of you know I've battled backwards and forwards with ff. now I'm getting comfortable with it. It's the best thing for him and me.

Big hugs to all.

Pikz · 17/02/2013 18:52

Wow garden!!! Amazingness!

gardenpixie32 · 17/02/2013 18:56

Oh and she had 2 boys and a girl!

ChunkyChicken · 17/02/2013 19:29

Congrats garden's cousin :)

blonder ((hugs)) and don't worry about ranting/venting/sharing etc. We've all done it.

VQ you are only human. That is all. Wink
