Panic stations!! DH went to supermarket to get me wine and the car broke down! He's now with mechanic getting it fixed! And I have no Wine !

Also I think I'm getting broody again. I keep thinking how looovely it would be to have a little girl.... someone slap me around the face with a wet fish, please!!

squidkid · 01/03/2013 19:53

Gives zara a slap and a glass of wine... put Tom in a dress and give it a few months years eh!!

:D

First we have the snug. To be honest I'm a bit annoyed with it. The seat space is quite big. My DS Is a big boy at nearly 20lb but is v long and not very chunky, so he doesn't quite fill it! Thus he falls to side. I don't doubt it will be great once he fills it and the table attachment v good. He was too big for the Bumbo. Like his mum, forever between sizes!!

hufflepuffle · 01/03/2013 20:23

Zara if u devise a sure fire way of conceiving a girl, let me know. But I'll not join u in pregnancy just yet if you don't mind.

Angelico · 01/03/2013 20:51

Quick wave and run First don't know anything about that seat but I know Bumbo was rubbish for our bean - luckily tried her in her cousin's first. She has long, strong legs and immediately managed to push herself over backwards so it's a no go. If the other one is any good let us know! :)

Unsettled bean this week, teething woes and a cold so she is napping more than usual and barely feeding :( Still in mostly good form bless her apart from crying jags before naps.

weaning question - if / when you start mix feeding what formula will you be giving? My plan is to aim for 6 months BFing then start some solids and some formula and just BF 2-3 times a day, prob morning and evening. Follow on milk seems a bit of a con unless bean isn't getting iron in diet. But how do you choose which formula to give? How did any of you guys decide? Are any of them meant to be better than others?

CWest30 · 01/03/2013 21:14

Really feel for those of you with sleep/teething/crying woes. All I can say is hang in there, it DOES get better I promise.

My DS (5) has been lovely over the last week. He keeps saying
"Mummy, I love you, you're beautiful" and keeps giving me random cuddles for no reason. :) When I look at Naomi laying on her playmat, it doesn't seem like 5 minuites since it was her brother! I then upset myself by thinking by the time SHE is 5, which will come around in a flash, DS will be 10, and too cool for mummy and daddy anymore its so sad. :(
I'm trying to do as much as I can with him, and treasuring every moment, even when I'm so tired and fed up I could scream because you never know when it will all be taken away. Sorry for being so sentimental, we are coming up to the 8th anniversary of my younger brothers death, he would of been 28 this year, I guess that's why I'm being so emotional.

On a lighter note, Naomi has spent the entire day chattering away, poking out her tongue which is hilarious, and even stayed awake in the buggy for the school run! My baby girl is growing up too.

Good night ladies, go and give your precious gems another kiss goodnight. Tomorrow is a new day :) xxxxxxx

londonlivvy · 01/03/2013 21:22

Oh crap. Baby swimming starts tomorrow. This means I have to wear a swimsuit. In public. My legs are not shaved and the less said about other areas, the better. My arse is wobbly, my stomach is frankly not what it was, argh. She'd better bloody love it !

cherrycherry41 · 01/03/2013 21:28

livvy we're going swimming too tomorrow! Same woes, tried to get a lovely suck everthing in swimsuit but DD had other plans...
DD decided while i was stark naked in t k maxx changing room to wake up and SCREAM the place down as she was hungry. So i tried feeding her an ice cold bottle... And she stuck her nose up to it and carried on screaming.. Staff were asking if i was ok Confused So i got changed, strapped DD in pram and ran to mothercare where the bottle warmers are rubbish and while we were waiting DD got stuck in one of them shitty stokke tripp trapp highchairs, cue more screaming and 2 staff members to help me dislodge her Sad
Left town, no swimsuit.
But DD has a selection of 4 to choose from Wink

londonlivvy · 01/03/2013 21:33

oh and a friend is due with her first baby in June. She's a sporty lass and has booked herself in to do a half marathon in september. Shock

dear god. she has absolutely NO idea what she is getting into. training for a 5km run would be challenging for most folk. squid is a hero in my book for running regularly but you have the bonus of a boyf around to babysit whilst you do so. she plans to run with baby in the buggy. okaaaay.

I don't want to be the harbinger of doom for her, but neither do I think it's helpful to have an unrealistic goal that may well serve to make her feel gloomy, when we all know parenting is hard enough already.

having said that, she'll now get the perfect baby who sleeps through from six weeks and she won't understand what we were muttering about!!

cherrycherry41 · 01/03/2013 21:35

she'd best hope she doesnt have a c section! 12 weeks minimum before any rigorius excercise...

londonlivvy · 01/03/2013 22:22

cherry that sounds like a nightmare shopping trip. I hope your swimming goes well. I managed to find a razor which has massively irritated the skin on my legs. so red raw instead of hairy...not convinced this is improvement. .

CWest30 · 01/03/2013 22:33

Must be something in the air water haha we are going to try swimming on Sunday!

Oh and Naomi is FINALLY coming out of the Moses basket tomorrow and into her cot bed :)

hufflepuffle · 01/03/2013 22:39

Quickie. Angelico follow on milk totally unnecessary and over calorific. Total con. Best to give bean first milk as is totally adequate. If still bf a bit not totally sure on iron etc. All formula fortified and solids diet should give all. If were still non formula advice is to give supplements. But formula had them.

Google it. Know there are arguments for follow on milk but is mostly bollocks. The manufacturers are not allowed to promote first milk so they gotta advertise something.

Angelico · 01/03/2013 22:56

Thanks huffle that's what I was reading on google too, that it's a bit of a swizz! Have started a thread in BFing to see which milk people recommend.

hufflepuffle · 02/03/2013 03:34

Think nearly all of us use aptamil? Beware of the difficult for bean to poo....... Seems to take a while for tummy to get used to. We on 3rd week and still not regular!! Not true constipation as comes out soft but gone from 2-3 a day to current 3 day wait. Trying to get him to drink water between feeds. GP advised extra water in feeds eg 4 scoops in 5oz water. HV not happy about that. He was v v cross with tummy at start, seems happier now. Not as much grunting. The grunting was getting him nowhere, bless. Apparently this is common. Tho once solids intro, mad poos return anyhow!

Poo chat at 3.30 am......!!!!

Londonmrss · 02/03/2013 05:07

Can't sleep again. Pissed off. Insomnia headache. Can't form sentences.

huffle everyone is probably going to think this is awful but it works. Naomi went through a phase of being constipated and screaming in pain. A lot of people suggested I try giving her brown sugar in boiled water. The first time, she stopped screaming, and did a poo within half hr!! I dont give her much, about half a teaspoon in 4oz of boiled water, maybe once a week if she needs it? Obviously when she is fine I don't give her any. It's up to you :)
Please don't report me to the NSPCC.

hufflepuffle · 02/03/2013 06:35

Cwest not bad mummy at all! As GP said to me when I asked about using calpol for teething, it's hardly kinder and wiser to keep them suffering!! Thank you. I will try that later. He had suggested small amount of pure orange in water to act as laxative. That hadn't worked this time. I shall do that after we are all up. Thanks! X

hufflepuffle · 02/03/2013 06:50

Ach London. Such a bollocks. Could be worse i suppose, dd could be awake too!!!

Hope u got to sleep again. X

londonlivvy · 02/03/2013 07:06

Oh MAN. Sleep regression from hell. We have gone from bedtime at seven, feeds at 1030, 3 or 4 then 7 to an incredible night of 10, 130, 3,4, 430, 5,530, etc. beyond hideous. This lasts for a week or two, right??? Holy moly.

London much sympathy re insomnia. Tis something I often suffer from. So frustrating.

Enjoy the swimming everyone!

Morning. On a train to London for a course at work.

angelico I use sma. For no good reason other than sma is what we were given in hospital and I saw no reason to change when he's had no problems on it. If it helps, I lined up each brand of first milk and read every single ingredient. They are the same. Hipp uses organic milk. The ingredients are in a slightly different order. No need for follow on milk unless your baby does not like cows milk at 12 months. First milk contains all you need. There's a UNICEF article about it.

livvy I'm back running too. But I've only just started properly as I was erm, leaking, as I ran. I did start riding at 3 weeks gently and will be doing a 32km ride next Saturday. Hopefully. But that'll be 19 weeks after the birth. I only had 4 weeks off riding. I was incredibly lucky. Saying that I still ache slightly!!

Right must get work head on!!!

horseylady · 02/03/2013 08:18

Oh swimming is fab!!! Ds loves it so much!!! We went to sensory swimming yesterday and he loved it!! Dark room, lights, toys, water, music!!

I've know people who have used brown sugar too. Worked very well. I've not had to yet. Boiled water between feeds has helped a bit when needed. And yes I would use Calpol if he was really suffering with his teeth!!

hufflepuffle · 02/03/2013 08:29

First have you spoke to gp about these nappies? Been going on for some time. I know when they are smaller and not feeding well on breast can indicate they only getting watery foremilk, not richer hind milk. Intolerances don't always make us sick. But can mess with digestion.
