Vq tonic try it it might help you.

ValiumQueen · 04/02/2013 09:31

PR it is!

ValiumQueen · 04/02/2013 09:38

Thank you horsey although the link initially went to erectile dysfunction Grin

Catbag · 04/02/2013 09:39

vq Grin

Passmethecrisps · 04/02/2013 09:44

I like your thinking PR!

Coughs and cold can go and take a running jump.

Snotty licking toddlers seem to have spread their germs successfully to me but left P untouched - for the moment! I am going to go out later when I can be arsed getting dressed and get some things to help should P come down with anything. What do you all advise? We have saline spray and do that before every feed - what else?

VQ I remember when my granny was poorly she asked for some Sanatogen Tonic Wine. She had an inch of it in the bottom of a glass diluted with water. Made her cheeks all rosy!

TheDetective · 04/02/2013 09:47

Comrade Sounds like a bloody fun day.... not. I hope there is some Wine or at least a Brew at the end of it for you. You are brave having both children jabbed at the same time!

Another one going back FT after 6 months too, feel less alone! Our reality if I did not go back, would be losing the house. Every day I drop would lose us £400. And I'd still have to pay the same amount in childcare as can't get set shifts.

I dream of dropping 1 day, or being able to do 12.5 hour shifts. :( I just want more time with my boys.

I don't see how we could swallow a £400 drop though. And if we tried it, there is no guarantee that if we couldn't manage, that I could get those hours back!

Tax credits always say no to me, no matter how little I earn. Dunno why. Assholes.

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 04/02/2013 09:49

Agree PR, am sick of wiping up snotty noses. Not had it so bad as some, like you and VQ Thanks for both of you, but DD is very susceptible to croup, DH cant work if there is sickness in the house (and doesnt get paid if he doesnt work) and I constantly feel like another single germ will tip the threatened sore throat into actual illness.

I am one of those people who was never ill. Never had a day of sick through school or work. Until DD came along. Am sure the tiredness kills the immune system.

So winter, and your germs, do one.

TheDetective · 04/02/2013 09:49

It went to weight management for me Hmm. Horsey what is your link trying to suggest. Grin

TheDetective · 04/02/2013 09:51

Snotty nose here :( Me that is. Keeping it to myself!

ValiumQueen · 04/02/2013 09:51

pass
decent thermometer - more accurate under arm at this age apparently
Two bottles calpol
Two bottles Brufen ( always vest to have spares)
Saline drops
There are various desnuffle lotions and potions including very fancy humidifiers. I think the carvol ones are good and think they have been mentioned here.
Chocolate and kindle for mummy
Online shop

Passmethecrisps · 04/02/2013 09:52

I saw that! Made me lol! I was wondering what kind of tonic horsey was suggesting

ValiumQueen · 04/02/2013 09:55

And NHS24 on speed dial.

Does everyone know about minor ailments service? Get your little ones registered as it will save you a fortune.

PurplePidjin · 04/02/2013 10:01

Anyone want a Nanny?

TheDetective · 04/02/2013 10:02

I vote for Karvol!

And extra bottles of calpol. Because some knobend me always drops it! Grin

We have something called care at the chemist. Same thing I think as VQ. Free OTC medicines for kids that GP's would otherwise prescribe, calpol, oilatum, ibuprofen, etc etc.

Passmethecrisps · 04/02/2013 10:02

Thanks missus. What minor ailments service?

Did I ever mention the fancy smancy thermometer I bought after jabs? Was a Brother Max forehead and ear thermometer - all posh looking. Got it home and tested it with ambient room temp. It was consistently 5 degrees out! I then went online and checked reviews. Massive problem with it which people only discovered when their children became really poorly. All style and no substance whatsoever. Just dangerous actually

TheDetective · 04/02/2013 10:02

I'd love a nanny!

Can't afford a nanny :(

TheDetective · 04/02/2013 10:04

Passme, a cheap under the arm job does the trick. We use them in work on the babies. It is what I have. Think it was £3.99.

blonderthanred · 04/02/2013 10:12

VQ I didn't know that about the under arm ones. We use a t tip ear one and it seems to read the temp so fast I am never sure I believe it. I do have a digital under arm one tho.

I was told always to take a couple of sachets of calpol and a thermometer out in case of a sudden fever so I've got those, plus more at home. Is Karvol any good?

VQ if its any consolation we are having shit sleep too. After being very reliable at nights, L stopped when his top ups started. He suddenly got v snuffly mucousy and woke himself up all night. Last week it was every hr. DH and I went to bed at 7.30 last night, we were done in and having massive fights and L managed 2x 3 hr stints so feel slightly better today. However L is now also sneezing and coughing so I think maybe he is actually poorly rather than having an allergic reaction. Which for some reason I can compute better in my brain, maybe because it doesn't seem endless. As long as its just a cold! Then he can get better, and start sleeping again... Right? Please?

Passmethecrisps · 04/02/2013 10:24

Ok.

Cheap Underarm thermometer - check
Forehead strip type thermometer - check
Calpol - check
Nurofen - check
Saline spray - check
Karvol or similar - nope. Will get later
Kindle - check
Chocolate - check!

Looks like we are almost completely set.

I took my temperature with the underarm thing - 35oC.

BigPigLittlePig · 04/02/2013 10:57

I won't steal the last post this timr pass Grin

Return to sleep was an epic fail, complicated by further vom episodes (and another close vom-in-mouth encounter).

Det I love my job, and am on a training scheme so I can't quit or change jobs - it is all I've ever wanted to do. I just wish I could have the best of both worlds. I could do part time and just about scrape together enough to live of, but we would never be able to afford more children or to buy a house. C'est la vie. Next time around I will make sure to have some money put asude so I can have the full year off.

ValiumQueen · 04/02/2013 10:57

At least at this rate I will not notice the 4 month sleep regression. Sorry you are suffering too blonder

pass you cold fish!

PP I would love a nanny, but I think you are a bit too far away for me.

Minor ailments is as mentioned above - a service where you can get basics free of charge from the pharmacist, without a prescription. Sainsburys by you does it pass most chemists do. Just go in and give details of name, address, DOB etc. I have no qualms claiming this service.

BigPigLittlePig · 04/02/2013 11:03

I'm having a gross day today. I feel all wibbly and pasty and gross. The fact that I smell of baby sick is definitely not helping.

This evening dh is on baby duty. I need a bath. And might crack open some fake tan.

Elizadoesdolittle · 04/02/2013 11:06

Gosh I'd love a nanny! But DH would send me back to work then and I'm not ready for that! Plus there's the minor issue of not being able to afford one. Congrats purple.

I'm almost too scared to post in case I accidentally get the last post!
