After waking hourly until midnight for food, wind, etc, J woke again at 2am. He was crying, but it was a very half-hearted effort, so I listened and he self settled. I thought it would buy me an hour at most, but he next woke at 5.30, so he clearly can do it. He is still growth spurting, but I have hope that he is heading towards sleeping a decent amount.

clarella I am still EBF at 13 weeks. This amazes me as I have found it arduous this time, and got so near to giving formula. I feel it is much easier this last week, although is still hard work in the evenings when he is tired and the flow is slower. I think you still have a way to go, and it will most likely be very hard at times, but stick it out if you can. It will be worth it in the long run. I know that in just a few weeks it will be so convenient, and I am beginning to really enjoy it again. The moments when he unlatches to have a chat and give you a beaming smile are just magical, if a bit messy.

BP J is a bugger for wind, and being bf I have not found anything medicine wise that he has been willing to take. I burp him mid-feed, and give him a jolly good burp at the end. We have a little song 'were going on a burp hunt' and I sit him on my lap facing me and I get him to do the hula as suggested by horsey I think it was, many weeks ago. Sometimes the only way to shift it is to lay him down, and he can wake crying with wind and produce a burp well over an hour later. They get better with age, and he is possessing less now thankfully.

I leave DS in the car to get petrol, and to take DD into nursery, but I park right outside the nursery window. I can no longer manage to carry the little lump in his seat any further than a few feet. Also at the supermarket, I park up and leave him in the car to get the trolley. I park as near as I can, and keep an eye out. Yes, there is a minuscule chance someone may pinch the car with him in it, but if you are sensible and are as quick as possible and lock the car then I think it is the sensible thing to do. Whenever possible I leave him at home with daddy, but as he will not take a sodding bottle yet, I need to be sure I am quick. Now he is bigger though, he can physically cope for longer between feeds, but would still express his annoyance at lack of boobage.

Envy Envy Envy etc. etc. (for PR ) Have you managed to avoid major injury overnight?

Sophiathesnowfairy · 24/01/2013 10:44

Well, a very eventful/busy 18 hours.

Had expected to drive to my date last night but no DH had ordered a taxi Grin

DH a lovely relaxing meal, bottle of wine, gossip and home.

Unfortunately due to the fact I had my Mirena Coil fitted last night prior to the date then no fun afterwards. It didn't really hurt although I feel a bit bruised this morning. We will see how it goes. Please let me know if my posts go crazy!

Oliver obliged by going down easily for the babysitter, I gave him his dream feed at 10:20, he barely woke up and then slept till 6:45. Then I had to get everyone up and out, DS1 to nursery and to the office for 08:00!!!!!! I even fitted in most of my being fly! Though I didn't reboot my laundry till I got back at 10:00.

Was lovely to see everyone and have a glance at real life.

zcos · 24/01/2013 10:45

notso hope so do but loving reading everything on here feel like I'm chatting with you guys which is a relief not left house since last Saturday due to snow and no visitors ... usually grandparents visit started doing it every week 2 grannies and grandcha on different days ... missed my mum and baby group two been only once since my d was born... went twice when she was a bump!!

zcos · 24/01/2013 10:50

oh and petite do you have cat net? how do you generally deal with a baby and cat? I have 2 ... my parents seem to be panicky bout them. the one is a real softy and think she will be v good...this is terrible but I have been treading on her lots lately as she hides upstairs on landing and I can't see her she hasn't once lashed out. the other seems to get peed off sometimes even if your just going to stroke her. they are both very scared of d at the mo.

PetiteRaleuse · 24/01/2013 10:51

Grin yes thanks VQ managed to not harm myself, my DH or either of my children in the last 24 hours. Am rather proud of myself :)

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 24/01/2013 10:55

nervous you don't have to sterilise anything if using only Breast milk. I just wash the funnel etc after every use in hot water. No need to faff with sterilisation stuff is part of the appeal!

PetiteRaleuse · 24/01/2013 10:56

Nothing to deal with really. When LO is sleepiing in the bedroom I keep the cats out of there usually and when she's not in her cot I put an old blanket right over the cot so if they do work their way in they d on't touch her bedding. Other than that baby and cats ignore each other.

It's harder when they get older. DD1 has learned the hard way that cats have claws so has pretty luch stopped trying to pull their tails.

blonderthanred · 24/01/2013 10:59

Hmm. We have had a reliable sleep pattern since about 6 wks of 4 hrs, feed, 2 hrs. Recently the 4 hrs has been lengthening to 4.5 or even 5 hrs. Great news.

On Monday night he did 4 hrs, feed, then 5 hrs. I woke up before him and nearly had a heart attack and poked him till he woke up.

Brilliant thinks I, he is now 12 wks and is obviously going to sleep like this every night.

Guess what? He hasn't. Back to 4+2 on Tues, then last night 4+0. Silly Mummy.

zcos · 24/01/2013 11:00

wow izzy a revelation for me I had been sterilizing and I have the same electric pump I think spectra 3 already changed my life! I used boiled water at one point and the bottle changed shape then remembered that its bad some chemicals could have gone into bottle... am I poisening my baby? Shock

BigPigLittlePig · 24/01/2013 11:01

When we got our cat, dsd was 3. She had so much love to share with the cat. So much love, that she squeezed him just a tad too hard and a tiny bit of poo came out. He is now terrified of children.

Although he does sometimes look like he might lick LOs head Hmm

I need this lol

zcos · 24/01/2013 11:05

petite thanks ... the closing door thing makes me not want to put baby in own room cos then the door is shut between us. and I could end up shutting cat in. got angel monitor with sensor pad wonder if it will alert if there is more weight in addition to less!?
think when she is much older the odd bite may help baby to learn not to pull tail etc for the one cat she tends to do warning light bites first but worry about scrams ...loosing eyes etc - my parents voice etc!

ShellyBobbs · 24/01/2013 11:07

Can't believe I've missed a whole thread, I missed the quiche!

Have a poorly little daughter and a sniffly little baby at the moment. I hate winter boo.....

Couldn't believe it the other night, I looked at the clock and rubbed my eyes comedy style. Tommy had actually gone 4.5 hours between feeds! He had never gone over 3 hours ever. Since then he is spacing his feeds out nicely, even during the day. He even goes in his chair without crying sometimes too!

Was sorting out his 0-3 month clothes and feeling sad that he's a chunk in 3-6 months and has been from 8 weeks. Oh well, I suppose they've got to grow :)

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 24/01/2013 11:08

zcos I love my spectra. Mines is over 3 years old as my mum bought me it when I had my daughter. It's such an efficient pump and a great price! The company, anawiz, who make them were great and sent me the little plastic rubber bit that goes over the second air outlet when I misplaced it. They did it free of charge too.

We have had a second night of sleeping through....midnight til 8 am. J is breastfed so I didn't expect this. Hopeful that its the start of a pattern and definite sleep throughs!

Kyzordz · 24/01/2013 11:12

Morning all :) welcome zcos

garden my Niece is about 6 months old and has never taken more than 17oz in a 24 hour period. However she is very chubby, bright and active so I wouldn't worry :) I actually worry more that ds is a gutsy sod and will be size of small house But he seems very healthy and just fine :)

Gave LO a feed at 10:30, though he was asleep, he had 6oz and was flat out, and then slept until 8am! Was expecting him up at 6:30 but hey ho! The extra few hours means he is forgiven waking at 3 and 4:30 just to squiggle a bit and have his dummy back.

I do worry sometimes that when he wakes and has his dummy back he is hungry but is ok with dummy. However, mum reckons I'd know to it if he were that hungry as dummy wouldn't be enough. This seems to work in the day, if he's due a feed then he lets you know, usually going from 0 to hungry in a matter of seconds!

Today I was supposed to be making him have proper type nap time, like yesterday, except as he woke late his feeds will be all over the shop and he is asleep again! He has a cycle of happy, tired, not sleeping, whinging, dozing for ten mins, waking and repeat, with a bit of peckish throw in when it gets close to feed time. I was attempting to get him to stay awake and then have a couple of hours decent sleep in the middle of the day. He's asleep now. Didn't work Hmm

What's everyone up to today?

KatieLily12 · 24/01/2013 11:13

Slightly overwhelmed by size of thread.... Want somewhere to chat to mums around the same stage

Hi there

DD born at start of November, 8 days early. Having a great time for the most part. She sleeps well once she's down but waits till I come to bed (we co sleep), the little minx! She was napping in the side crib but that's all out the window this week as she's been threatening nursing strike (I EBF). Dr suspects reflux as she's also dropping down centiles.

Currently nailed to sofa letting her doze and (thank god) feed. It's been a horrible few days.

ValiumQueen · 24/01/2013 11:26

kyz a hungry baby would not be pacified by a pacifier. Do not worry.

zcos the angel monitor will only tell you if there is no movement for a period of time. It is important to make sure that, for example, the washer is not activating the sensor with the vibration. I need to check Ewan does not do that. On occasions I have taken boy out of cot and changed his bum on cot top changer and the monitor has not alarmed.

Fat bum has grown out of the small nappies (washable). He has very fat thighs and had big red marks from elastic so time to sell them on. A sad day indeed.

ValiumQueen · 24/01/2013 11:30

katie you have come to the right place. We also have a FB page if you look back through this thread. We have lots of babies who have had reflux, so hopefully their mummies will be able to answer any questions should they arise.

Politics today?

I think the fact that we had a chat about religion yesterday without it resulting in a bun fight says such a lot about our little community.

ValiumQueen · 24/01/2013 11:30
KatieLily12 · 24/01/2013 11:39

Thanks valium

Am now walking little bean up and down as she woke and had 5 minutes chuntering about why she wasn't tired. 2 mins ago she started grizzling,.....

Sigh

gardenpixies32 · 24/01/2013 11:41

VQ has J outgrown the Little Lambs nappies in size 1? My girls are not very big and I am finding the LL getting snug on them. They are meant to last to roughly 9 months (depending on baby) but I doubt very much my 2 are going to fit into them until then.

I bought two gorgeous pink flowered Tots Bots nappies. In love!

TheDetective · 24/01/2013 11:56

Anyone else's DP read this thread?! No? Just my knobber?! Bog off and find your own thread not so DP Grin Grin Grin.

Passmethecrisps · 24/01/2013 11:59

Hello katie. Hello as well to our other newcomer - I am sorry I can't remember the name.

We have a few reflux babies on this thread both the silent (was there ever a greater misnomer?) and typical. My own LO is now 10 weeks and developed symptoms of silent reflux back at 4 weeks old. Her key symptom was food refusal. We also discovered a cows milk protein intolerance after she was hospitalised for a few days as a result of the feeding. I completely recognise your relief at her wanting to eat. It is an awful feeling knowing they must be starving but they just won't eat. Good luck with your LO - hopefully we can all be of some assistance.

I had my '6 week' check yesterday. All seems well. Doc suspects I may have a minor prolapse but to give it a couple more weeks before doing an internal. I need to have a good think about contraception as well. I respond very badly to progesterone and can't have oestrogen due to visual migraines. She suggested the coil and reckons that the mirena coil would have a low enough dose of progesterone in a localised area for it not to bother me. Does anyone have any experience?

KatieLily12 · 24/01/2013 12:04

garden I would love to use reusable but someone won't tolerate any wetness. I have to change her before every feed or can't concentrate. I was gutted as we'd bought a load
