Those with sore bums (on the babies, all those still suffering piles - I share your pain but I don't think this will help you) my midwife recommends olive oil. For everything. We use the odd wipe on DS when he has a poosplosion for initial clean up then soft baby tissues with a slosh of olive oil. His bum appears to be in good shape. We also put a splash of oil in his bath to make him extra slippery for his skin and another midwife seconded the olive oil and also recommended milk in his bath.
Also when I give him a quick top and tail in the morning I rub a bit of olive oil on my fingers and then round his bits and bottom.

Anyone else tried a tummy tub (baby bathing bucket thing) we've been loaned one and DS luuurves it. He goes all quiet and has a very serious look on his face while he has a little wriggle. But i have to bath him with DP's help because otherwise I can't figure out how to hold him and wash him Confused

SpottyTeacakes · 30/01/2013 18:31

Oh yes squirt your milk on their nappy rash!

HoneyMumandSon · 30/01/2013 18:41

Nutella we invested ina tummy tub last week and I think it's the best £20 we've spent! Are you on the FB page? (I know I set it up but I can't remember who people really are!) there's a picture of D in his tummy tub up there!

Kafri · 30/01/2013 19:39

FB page? I fear I'm missing out due to my late arrival on here!

HoneyMumandSon · 30/01/2013 19:42

We've got a secret group so we can post pics etc. if you pm me your name ill have to add you as an FB friend then invite you to the group.

HoneyMumandSon · 30/01/2013 19:44

Has anyone tried dream feeds? Someone suggested it today and I can't decide if I'm brave enough to try it as if it goes wrong I can only imagine you get a very confused and disgruntled baby

SpottyTeacakes · 30/01/2013 19:50

Honey I haven't yet as ds is up every 2/3 hours anyway so don't see the point... Maybe if he was sleeping 7-3 it would be worth trying a 10/11pm feed but otherwise I don't think it would make much difference?

I've got seriously bad toothache from my wisdom tooth Sad can I take ibuprofen? I also bought breastfeeding vitamins today...very expensive but hopefully do us some good, not sure how much vitamin c was in my chocolate orange Wink

HoneyMumandSon · 30/01/2013 19:59

spotty as long as you ate the whole chocolate orange that should be you RDA of chocolate vitamin C Wink

Barbeasty · 30/01/2013 20:00

Interweb- a French lady at DD's swimming lessons swore by something you can get over there which I'd mostly olive oil. I can't remember what else it contains, but it might have been something bizarre like lime.

A's tummy button still hasn't healed. The Dr took a swab at our 6 week check today, and I've got some antibiotic cream for it. Otherwise we're both ok. No worries about his continuous and copious vomiting, or the dropping down centiles for weight....

SpottyTeacakes · 30/01/2013 20:00

Well I had to make sure I got maximum vitamin c..... Grin

WLmum · 30/01/2013 20:08

Re nappy rash, we use re-usable wipes and warm water and touch wood haven't suffered much with nappy rash - when dds have had bits in the past I have found that wet wipes made it much worse.

WLmum · 30/01/2013 20:11

spotty yes you can take ibuprofen.

barbeasty that sounds worrying to me. Is he a happy chappy despite it?

halesball · 30/01/2013 20:19

Honey and spotty i've done dream feeds i liked doing it. As you probably already know that like your LO spotty H doesn't sleep very much. So recently when i've spotted her cues for feeding while shes been sleeping, i carefully pick her up put my nipple by her nose and she latches on. She stays asleep for the whole feed, she comes off when shes full and i gently wind her. And either cuddle her or put her back down (mostly cuddle) if i do it right i feel she gets a better longer sleep.

We had a long bath together tonight, which she turned into a jacuzzi haha. I really loved it Grin. She even had a breastfeed while in the bath. And shes currently lay down silently fighting her sleep.

Barbeasty · 30/01/2013 20:37

Yes, he's happy.

He arches his back a fair bit, which can be a sign of reflux, and doesn't like it when the sick is nearly solid curdled milk- he gags on it's way up and pulls a face as he seems to chew and swallow it.

But he is sick after every feed, and in between too.

I'll take him to be weighed again in a few weeks and see. He doesn't seem overly upset, and is alert with fine nappies etc.

Spotty DD does 2 full days at nursery, 8 until around 5.30 and is fine, if a bit tired & stropy once we get home. She is 2.5, so I think a similar age. Could you try it for a few weeks and see how she goes?

IsThatTrue · 30/01/2013 20:53

hales me and ds2 have lovely baths like that. I really enjoy feeding him while he's floating :) tonight he had a bath with dd though. They both really enjoyed it.

Well Zumba was good but now I'm knackered!

SpottyTeacakes · 30/01/2013 20:56

Barbeasty yes dd is 2.7.... Does your dd have a nap? Dd stopped a whole ago but every now and then has half an hour. The nursery is pretty full so not sure if/when she would be able to do it but I think she would like it. I feel a bit sad that she prefers being there than at home with her horrible shouty mum Sad

SpottyTeacakes · 30/01/2013 21:38

Why does dp have to bugger off to football training? Ds has been feeding all evening I haven't even had a chance to do my insulin injection I'm meant to do at 7/8pm and now dd is up because the dermatitis on her hand was itching. I had to bring her downstairs because ds was crying! He says it's the only time he gets to himself Hmm I don't even get to go for a wee...

IsThatTrue · 30/01/2013 21:44

Oh spotty that sounds poo, have you talked to him about it? I'm pretty lucky that DH sends me off to Zumba happily and rarely goes out alone. Ds2 has been attatched to me since I came back. I remember tryi to do it all with a toddler too. It's hard work. You're doing so well!

WLmum · 30/01/2013 22:04

Bless him barbeasty!

SpottyTeacakes · 30/01/2013 22:12

There is no way he would stop going its his one true love. He used to play for Brighton under 21's back in the day! It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't 30 minutes away, 40 minutes at the moment due to road being flooded. Also ds is really demanding! Ah well I live watching Ben & Holly at ten at night Hmm Grin

utopian99 · 30/01/2013 23:05

honey one of our nct has been doing dream feeds and swears by it. O doesn't sleep long enough for us to try yet..

Those with forceps or other fussing problems; definitely second spotty's recommendation for cranial osteopathy. My mum swears by it for sorting out unnamed upset baby behavior.

We had O's first full proper bath today! I wondered if he would like it and he LOVED it... So many smiles in such a short space of time. Grin

Stacks · 31/01/2013 00:37

We're having a few days of little sleep. Hoping its a growth spurt or development leap. He's 5 weeks, but was 2 weeks overdue.

Went to docs today with possible thrush, was given tablet for be and drops for T. They've got such a strong smell, must taste horrible to T who's only ever tasted milk. I'm surprised his dose is the same as adult - 1ml 4 tines a day. Everyone else prescribed the same for their LO?

Clarella · 31/01/2013 01:18

face rash a million times aggravated by cute wool cardi!

yes I've heard aveeno good for cradle cap too.

we've used olive oil like a cleanser on hugs bottom as used metanium and I now do it before a bath for a good clean.

more success with metanium when a bit of pantheon used.

halesball · 31/01/2013 02:14

Stacks we were prescribed those drops (nystatin). Heidi hated them we had to give her it a very little at a time wait till she swallowed and give her some more. She seemed to spit up more than she swallowed be ready with a muslin because those drops stain. And her thrush got worse before it got better. We didn't give her any milk for at least 20 minutes after because the pharmacist said that fluids wipe it away and stop it from working. Me and my DP can't understand why they don't make baby medicine either taste if milk or taste of nothing.

HoneyMumandSon · 31/01/2013 02:18

We've finished the nystatin but D still has white tongue. Don't know what to do.
