There's a book called the happiest baby on the block that talks a lot about the missing forth trimester.... I've found it brilliant!

Secondsop · 30/01/2013 01:07

Why is my baby so wide awake and alert at bedtime? Have put him on the boob but that isn't getting him to sleep.

SeymoreInOz · 30/01/2013 01:30

I am hungry all the time too, I can't stop eating carbs but I never feel full.

kafri your LO sounds a lot like my first DC, I really feel for you. I shut down and stopped seeing people altogether. It wasn't their fault that they had much easier babies, but I really didn't want to hear about it... and I didn't want them to see DD crying all the time either. Don't feel bad about cutting out socialising for a bit, the people who matter will understand and be there when you're ready to do more. It is so draining though. Do you have much help?

EggsMichelle · 30/01/2013 02:51

Very annoying, I had that Fourth Trimester website up as a tab for ages, must have just closed it without book marking it! My F screams a lot, but sounds like one of your easier days since starting the gaviscon, before it was the going ridged/head thrown back/red face scream that only boob could calm (now we know he was in pain :( ) now he needs constant input, which is exhausting but nothing like the screaming phase.

(9-2... Fingers crossed we sleep through to 7!)

WLmum · 30/01/2013 03:02

Cranial osteopathy? It worked for a while for dd1.

Poor you guys.

WLmum · 30/01/2013 03:17

Since we swapped the Moses basket for the cot wondering if she'd prefer it, dd has spent less time than ever out if our bed. Just put her down on her tummy and she settled immediately but is now squeaking - we'll see!

SpottyTeacakes · 30/01/2013 04:06

Four hours everyone!! And dp gave the last feed (actually found time to express yesterday!) so I only woke for a little bit then Grin

2blessed · 30/01/2013 04:15

Ds went to bed at about midnight and is now on the boob. For the first time I went to bed at the same time and I feel better for it. Massively engorged right boob though, better express that out!

IsThatTrue · 30/01/2013 04:23

Yay spotty everything's a little easier after a few hrs sleep.

Well ds2 slept 10-12 and 1.30-4. Just winding and then hopefully he'll go down quicker than earlier. I'm sure he gets better quality sleep in his crib. If not I'll just have to snuggle with him for a few hours. Such a hardship Grin

kafri you have my sympathies. Ds1 was the amazing non sleeping baby and he had colic and reflux. It is soul destroying but in my experience it does get better. Ds1 is now 6, he was a lovely toddler who only tantrummed a handful of times. He is great at making fiends and loves school. It almost makes those baby months forgivable --not sure you ever really feel that all that screaming was worth it, but you don't resent it so much.

zcos · 30/01/2013 04:45

re subject of being hungry and bf ing I always get thirsty and ravenous as my dd eats have got a much better appetite I too noticed when younger (following a nutrition course) that I get hungry when thirsty so trying to drink but going against every healthy rule ... eating carbs late eating high fat and high sugar, I get a graze box on Mondays which I recommend but can't afford one every day other than that I'm reaching for biscuits etc for quick energy fix ... I am still a jean size bigger ...(.this only happened during pregnancy ) and am still wearing mat jeans worried I won't slim back down and that I have lots of clothes wasted!

HoneyMumandSon · 30/01/2013 05:03

D's poo always tends to be quite runny but his past couple have been very liquidy. Do I need to worry or is that ok?

SeymoreInOz · 30/01/2013 05:09

Yay for big sleeps! DS did 8-12:30 last night but I went to bed at 11. After that he woke every 2 hours. Hmm

zcos I'm sure you will slim down to pre-preg size, one size bigger is pretty good considering you had a baby last month!!

SpottyTeacakes · 30/01/2013 05:44

We get that sometimes honey I would just keep an eye on it for now.

Hmm less than two hours this time Hmm and almost time to get up!

WLmum · 30/01/2013 05:57

So glad to hear some of you got 4 hours and more ladies. Dd here slept soundly on her tum in her cot for 2.5 hours and just woke about usual time for a feed. Hoping she'll go back down so I can get big 2 up and ready for the school run. New 'sleep in your cot' plan will be to try putting her straight on her tum. Tried dummy again last night but she wasn't really interested - so fickle!

Felt really tired yesterday, expect today will be the same but planning a long walk to take T to my work. Possibly may get a nap in the pm as pils having dd2 but won't hold my breath.

EggsMichelle · 30/01/2013 06:03

Not quiet the 7am I dreamed of, but can't complain at 9-2.15 and 3-5.45! And we have another busy day ahead of us, so hopefully he will exhaust himself by being a mardy arse and sleep well tonight!

utopian99 · 30/01/2013 06:53

Well O ended up fidgeting and feeding pretty much straight from 9-12, and had major feed before that too. Gaviscon seems to have done nothing but then by the time I'd got it all into him he just sicked it all up again, so how is it supposed to have a chance to work?
Did sleep from 12.30-4.20 though, thank god, i was SO tired. Then short feed and 4.45-6.15, and still awake snuffling and feeding. He doesn't seem to be a big fan of feeding while I lie down, more's the pity.

When i woke at 6.15 i almost immediately started a major nosebleed - has anyone else suffered from these post-pg? Never did before...

MaMaPo · 30/01/2013 07:56

Oh Kafri, that sounds unimaginably tough. I would echo what someone else said about not cutting yourself off socially - one of my friends had a baby who was really inconsolable (ended up being something medical) but I was still happy to go to her house to see her and the baby.

This backwards step in night sleeping is going on longer than I'd hoped. Haven't slept since 4...

ISpyPlumPie · 30/01/2013 08:20

Slept midnight till five, woke up for quick boob then slept till 7.30. Best night yet Grin.

FriendofDorothy · 30/01/2013 08:57

We had a really good night. Slept from 11ish until 3.45, fed for 10 minutes and then only took 10 minutes to settle. Slept then until 5.45 and woke for a feed and a nappy change. My right breast was so engorged it was painful. Then had another sleep until 8.30.

So, why when we had a good night do I feel more tired than ever?

WLmum · 30/01/2013 09:33

Ah yes utopian - although pack says give after a feed in reality thus doesn't work at all, so I give before a feed (my dr said it would rise up over the milk to cap it) and it seems to work just fine. Much mire chance that she'll take it, and doesn't immediately puke it out. Good luck!

EggsMichelle · 30/01/2013 10:13

I give it after his 'half way burp' then carry on feeding.

I'm bf in Starbucks on my own, feeling very brave and liberated and very much enjoying my praline mocha and sausage sandwich!

2blessed · 30/01/2013 11:38

Good for you eggs! I've yet to bf in public, even a bit more reserved about bf in front of visitors than I thought I would be.

Clarella · 30/01/2013 11:52

sorry quick post - utopian I've had bloody nose, not a full bleed though, on and off for a while. when bf we still have relaxin so wondered if a link?

I'm sooooooooo happy. we have orange poo! block feeding finally paid off!! it wasn't so explosive this morning but still a bit green but just now luminous orange!! haven't had that fir ages! hoping tonight will be a better night. I've read and been told that some women have to block feed after a growth spurt so will be prepared next time. any success seymore?

I'd only do it in consultation with an advisor though. all info on la leche league website and Kelly mom.

will catch up soon. terrible nights here.

hi kafri and hugs. that is so tough.

we'll done spotty!! hoping we get the same soon.

hi is that too!

Clarella · 30/01/2013 11:57

kafri. - I wonder about silent reflex too? not sure what else to advise but you have all our sympathies and support.

EggsMichelle · 30/01/2013 14:30

Have there really been no posts in over 2hrs or is my phone playing up? Feeding in a pub now. I'm not just driving around feeding in random places, DH has several job interviews today and easier for us all to go together. Had a poosplotion 5mins before leaving, never cleaned him up and changed him so quickly!

What's causing the nose bleeds? Are they massive ones?

Considering writing a blog of breast feeding places around Nottingham, anyone know how to start a blog?
