hales i think if they have a sore throat they are very fussy when trying to feed - wanting to suck/swallow but pulling away when swalloweing hurts. hth

WLmum · 16/01/2013 10:20

hales if she seems ok just let her be. You could raise one end of her cot/basket. I have never tried a nasal aspirator or saline drops for snotty babies.

SpottyTeacakes · 16/01/2013 11:08

We used the spray for ds. He was just snotty though nothing else. Hope she feels better soon.

Just had 6/8 week check and ds is now 9lb2 so has put on 11oz in just over two weeks Grin dr said he's cute as a button and she even changed his nappy for me!

EggsMichelle · 16/01/2013 11:48

I have my 6wk check tomo, but got to wait for an appointment for F's check (ill take him with me anyway!)

DH has always had terrible sleep, and one bad night can leave his sleep pattern a mess for weeks. Thankfully he has been sleeping with us for the last week, and sleeping through the feeds, but he is still exhausted by the end of the day (I still have my sense of humour to find this funny)

DH also got his nursing registration through yesterday, so will be starting his job in the next few weeks, very excited that he will be working, but anxious that I will be home alone with F and the dog and the house work, will have to get my shit together!

halesball · 16/01/2013 12:07

Thank you for the advice shes still wheezy but no doubt when my DP gets here he'll tell me i'm over reacting. My DP works nights and because he doesn't cope well with a lack of sleep he stays at his dads after work, then comes here afterwards. I don't think men can cope as well with a lack of sleep. It is annoying when he complains hes tired. Wish i could get 8 hours uninterrupted sleep

SpottyTeacakes · 16/01/2013 12:12

Dp says he wakes up every time I feed ds. He doesn't get that stirring and actually getting out if bed and sitting up for half an hour are a bit different Hmm

Bellaboo123 · 16/01/2013 12:26

Had a lovely night but woke up with diarrhoea and sickness ConfusedConfusedConfused luckily Aurelia slept from 10-3.30 but I couldn't use the time to sleep.

DP took her this morning and let me sleep just feeding now. So worried she'll catch it - frantic hand washing and bleaching all round!

SpottyTeacakes · 16/01/2013 12:30

Oh Bella is it noro virus do you think?

Bellaboo123 · 16/01/2013 12:55

I hope it's bloody not - wonder if I picked it up at docs yesterday?

CODwidow · 16/01/2013 13:05

I need some advice, as you all know I have 4 ds's plus dd and am doing my best to keep on top of everything as dh works very long hours. The only thing I'm struggling with is the boys reading so I was thinking of maybe picking a book and reading it together each night apart from ds4 who's 4. But oldest is 10 and ds3 is 6 so big difference. Anyone have any suggestions?? I don't want them to fall behind just because I don't have the time right now. Its getting me down slighty as don't want them to miss out.

CODwidow · 16/01/2013 13:18

Sorry but I know a few of you have more than one dc and others work in a school environment so thought you may have some suggestions Smile

Barbeasty · 16/01/2013 13:59

COD I have mostly nieces, and DD is much younger, but how about Harry Potter or Risks Dahl (assuming they haven't already read them). Or something like a decent book of Greek mythology? Or non-fiction- I don't know if something like "the way things work" or any books about space or other interests they might have could work for both? Have they read some of other classics like the Narnia books, or Athur Ransom? Is the Hobbit too old for the 6 year old?

WLmum · 16/01/2013 14:01

Poor bella'

Sorry cod no suggestions but will have a think.

CODwidow · 16/01/2013 14:05

barbeasty thank you, I think we'll try a Roald Dahl first, they've read most but I'm sure we'll find one we can agree on.

SpottyTeacakes · 16/01/2013 14:18

Or Enid Blyton the fantastic five etc I know they're old but definitely classics everyone should read Smile

FriendofDorothy · 16/01/2013 14:59

Argh. Edward has started being really sicky today :( Any advice on how to get him to keep his milk down?

SpottyTeacakes · 16/01/2013 15:09

FoD other than making sure he's properly winded and not jigging him about after a feed (which I'm sure you're not!) there isn't much you can do, it always looks a lot more when it comes back up Smile

PurplePidjin · 16/01/2013 15:20

COD what about Horrible Histories etc? Harry Potter and Northern Lights might also appeal to both, chapter at a time. The Alex Rider books are meant to be good but I've only seen the film

I'm seriously fed up of doing fucking everything, dp is so tired i have to keep sending him to bed but i just want to wail "when is it my turn" at the world

OP posts:
halesball · 16/01/2013 15:23

FoD is he still opening his bowels and passing urine? If not then possibly take him the hospital he may need to go on a drip to get some fluids into him. Sorry if that sounds dead obvious. Hope hes feeling better soon. Its horrible when babies and children are sick especially when they can't tell you whats wrong.

Hope your feeling better soon Bella and fingers crossed it isn't the noro virus

Secondsop · 16/01/2013 15:33

CODwidow I don't have any book recommendations to add to what the others have said apart from to second all of them (if I can always read Harry potter again I'm sure your children will love revisiting it too) but just wanted to say that for this to be the only thing you're struggling with, with 5 children, must mean you're doing an extraordinary job :)

pmgkt · 16/01/2013 16:21

How much sleep were yours all having st 4 weeks.

Bellaboo123 · 16/01/2013 16:29

Pmgkt at 4 weeks we'd get 3/4 hour intervals at night and 2/3 hours in the day. All over the shop at night now and she's a lot more awake in the day too.

Cookiesandcoffee · 16/01/2013 16:34

Uh oh has this been on the weather spotty? I never look as I never believe it Blushwas blooming cold today
Wrap arrived today .. Trying to get the hang of it. Watched a few videos and have mastered legs out but not in. Also, I've not done it 100% correctly as her head keeps escaping (she's a wiggler!)
COD I don't know how you do it! I'm struggling with 2.
Hope you feel better soon bella was supposed to be meeting a friend today but she's really sick with it too

SpottyTeacakes · 16/01/2013 16:36

I struggle with ds's head in the caboo!

Yep most the country are going to get it but I remember you saying you never get snow!

Bellaboo123 · 16/01/2013 16:41

It seems like its all stopped may have been food poisoning - Sod's law haven't been out on my since LO arrived!
