Beans, re singing, as long as you don't get out of breath it should be fine but you'll probably find you need to take a breath more frequently. I gave up playing clarinet at 5 months both times but it was only partly the breathing thing to be honest, I was also too tired to manage rehearsals till 9.30 in the evening. But it is a valid excuse if you want to get out of singing Grin.

Artichook · 28/02/2013 09:11

Wow Veg your holiday sounds fab. I am not at all jealous of the warmth or the dolphins or the chance to eat decent Mexican food (I love proper Mexican, why can't the UK get some decent Mexican restaurants?). I hope you continue to have lots of fun.

Nolda - who is your DD feeling about her new school now? And are you feeling more at home in your new neighbourhood?

Still ill but I think I am slightly better. This is the first day I feel up to some productive activity so I am lying in bed with the lap top booking window cleaners, more quotes for the loft, bidding on eBay for a baby monitor and listing more stuff. All good work to do from a semi-reclined position. Might book a sneaky Easter break too (Devon or Disneyland Paris? DH's cousin lives at the gates of EuroDisney so we have free accomodation BUT she is mad and I am not sure I fancy the queues at 33 weeks preggers).

Gosh I wish I was going where you are going Beans. It looks so relaxing, plus I adore Middle Eastern food.

McKayz · 28/02/2013 10:03

Arti, we have a brilliant Mexican restaurant up here. I have no idea if it is proper Mexican like they have in Mexico but it is gorgeous.

Nolda · 28/02/2013 10:47

Veg, glad to hear you're having a super time in LA.

Arti, good news that you're finally on the mend. I've been laid low with the kiddies' bug for the last 3 days but have still been getting up for school run etc.

Those with older children, what is the going rate for the tooth fairy these days? DD has finally lost her first tooth today!

Arti, thanks for asking after DD. We are no longer having weeping and tantrums but she doesn't like her school. It's still not been that long I guess, but maybe we'll have to rethink if she doesn't settle in. It would be a shame as the junior school where she would go next year has lots to offer, being a larger school, great for sport, music and drama but if she would only be happy in a smaller school...

McKayz · 28/02/2013 11:00

Nolda, I gave DS1 £1.50 last night. I usually give £1 but the tooth was helped out by a whack from DS2.

One of the mums at school gives £5 per tooth.

Artichook · 28/02/2013 11:38

I gave DD1 £2 for her first tooth (which had fallen down the drain before she even got to see it so she was really worried the tooth fairy would give nothing). I wish I had given £1 because when I did give £1 for tooth number two she felt short changed.

Sorry that your DD is still not properly happy Nolda. Is it the size of the school or is it just the lack of a close friend? Have you tried organising some after school play dates to encourage friendships?

sybilfaulty · 28/02/2013 13:36

Hello girls, long time no post, sorry alas my RL shenanigans always seem to get in the way. However, I am on a rare day off (working from home, dontcha know) so I thought I'd read and post.

Kayz, £5 per tooth is insane. That's £100 per mouth. I give £1, if I remember at all. I was caught out with DD2 as she wrote a sweet note to the TF on Valentine's day asking for a wee card and to know her name. I made a card and invented a name (a bit merry alas) and she recognised my handwriting so I confessed to the card but not the £££. I think that one doesn't have much more mileage in it here, alas.

Nolda, huge sympathies on DD. I think sometimes they tell us about an unhappy time in such a way as to make us think they are very unhappy all the time, when it is in reality more isolated. DD1 sometimes says no one will play with her, which means at the time she asked (or the people she asked) rather than no one at all. I think Arti's idea of some playdates is a good one.

Very jealous of all the fab travels. We are planning Norfolk for May half term but nothing more.

sybilfaulty · 28/02/2013 13:41

Had to post before it was eaten.

Glad to hear the preggos are doing well, but sorry to hear of the other illness on the thread. After a while when I though DD had whooping cough, she's now just coughing normally. Poor DS coughed til he threw up, several times, which was very sad and uncomfortable for him.

Are we any closer to a meet up date? Mayve after Easter would suit if there isn't one planned.

I am trying to win a day's worth of handyman services as our house is falling down. Many of you have kindly liked my cat on FB, but if you are on FB could you possibly like her if you have a chance please? She is called Nutmeg and is a small tortie. I am currently second in terms of likes but still 10 hours to go. I can't bear to let the handyman slip through my fingers (ooer) so any likes would be FAB.

Oops, someone at door. Back in a min X

McKayz · 28/02/2013 14:45

Sybs, I can't find a pic of Nutmeg to like. Where am I going wrong?

beans37 · 28/02/2013 15:30

Hello all! And especially Sybs, back again! Hurrah!

I am currently feeling the worst I have all pregnancy with near pukes and cramping lower belly. Have been to soft play with the girls so I could sit and read for a bit. And also had to go to shops. Yuck. Someone from a charity was about to try to sell me something and stopped and asked if I was ok. I look dreadful. On verge of asking DH to come home early from work. Not sure if I can face the evening ahead. Cripes. But of course, I won't ask him, I'm a trooper after all!!

Although I will get him to put the bins out tonight. Don't think I've got the energy.

Poor me poor me. Whinge whinge. Sorry!

Kayz, it's tucked away on the Silver Saints page. They are having a pet off today. She should be there on their page I hope?

Lovely beans, take it easy. Put a film on and let girls wallow. Skip their bath. Easy tea. Once wont hurt. Thinking of you xxxx

McKayz · 28/02/2013 18:47

I found it Sybs. Very cute cat.

sybilfaulty · 28/02/2013 19:06

Aw thank you darling. She's just a mog but we all adore her.

Thanks yo everyone who has liked her. Fingers crossed the hot handyman will be mine.

Honsandrevels · 28/02/2013 22:04

Hello everyone,

Beans How are you feeling now? Hope you took it easy with bedtime. I wouldn't lend out clothes if you want them returned. Accidents happen and some people are not as careful as you might be with things.

Arti Glad you are on the mend. So exciting to have another baby on the thread.

LadyT I'd love to read about your trips too. We're taking the girls across to Italy on the train in May, including a sleeper from Munich to Verona. Did your girls need much to keep them occupied on the Eurostar when you went to Paris? DD2 is still a bit little to amuse herself like DD1 can. I'm fretting they will be fed up before we get to London!

Sybs I would like but I'm not on facebook. I hope you get the handyman.

News from here. It was DD2's birthday. Can't believe she is 2! We had a couple of her little friends round for a party and it was very sweet. Toddlers interacting together are very cute. My contract has been renewed at work for another year but on reduced hours. I'm going from 2.5 to 2 days but the drop is pay is more than I'd thought. A bit of a pain but at least I have a job. My iron levels have been so dire that I have to have weekly iron infusions for 6 weeks. No difference after the first one but perhaps after a couple more I'll be turning cartwheels down the corridor afterwards. I am really tired at the moment but I don't know how much is due to anaemia and how much is because DD2 still isn't sleeping properly! New strategy is that DH goes into her as she settles better for him. Suits me fine, although I'm the one that wakes first and has to prod DH awake.

Right better go to bed. I've been rubbish at keeping up so have enjoyed settling down to catch up and having lots of posts to read.

Vagolajahooli · 01/03/2013 00:33

It was tucked away Sybs but I managed to find it & have liked.

Vagolajahooli · 01/03/2013 04:21

Oh & Beans in response to your expressing what you would do if the baby did show problems on the nuchal scan. I have always had the utmost respect for the amazing parents of the special neefs kids I looked after. But it is not something I could do. I love DH & we are good together but I don't think our marriage would last the stress of raising a child with complex needs. Don't feel you need to apologise for feeling that way.

Also Arti in response to your horror at your joking statements about your DS, I don't see what the problem is, our boys can do what they want in the future as long as they can support me & marry a person of my approval Wink

Vagolajahooli · 01/03/2013 04:22

Because of course they will marry.

McKayz · 01/03/2013 07:28

DS2 wants to be a fire-fighting Olympic gymnast that occassionally does dancing. Grin

Artichook · 01/03/2013 12:56

Of couse they will marry Veg, your DS2 and my DD2 are destined to be together in a stubborn shouty marriage!

How do you feel today Beans? Was it pregnsncy trials or a bug? I hope you survived until the girls were in bed.

Did you win the handy man Sybs?

DD2 suddenly obsessed with wanting to learn to read. Its her competitive instinct kicking in as DD1 loves to read. Anyone know any good websites with simple reading games? She knows her sounds and can read most Cvc words but not sure what to do next.

Indith · 01/03/2013 12:56

£5 for a tooth!

Flipping heck. Ds1 has yet to lose any despite his best efforts at smashing his face in last year at school. I was thinking of 50p Grin.

Dd wants to catch the easter bunny and keep him. She asks every day if it is easter yet.

Ds2 still poorly, he ran a lovely temp last night and was getting wheezy again. Less wheezy today but not great. Seems like this sort of thing is happening whenever he has a cold. It lasts for weeks and weeks, he coughs loads and gets wheezy. I don't think he has ever had a cold that has lasted less than a month, usually longer. And people question why the child doesn't sleep well!

I am enrolled at university! And I have my DBS certificate (CRB). Pretty much nothing left to do but get the dcs settled with the CM and then at 11am on Monday 25th March we start our inductuon week!

Thinking of buying a little car. We'll see how the commute goes but we may turn into a 2 car family.

Beans hope you are resting!

McKayz · 01/03/2013 15:32

DS1 has bloody head butted someone. He with XH this weekend which is probably good as I'm fuming.

sybilfaulty · 01/03/2013 16:40

Sorry about your ds Kayz. Do you know why he did it?

No reading here. M knows the name of some letters and a few sounds but can't read. He does a great re telling of mog and bunny though which is hilarious. He also does a good biff and chip impression by burbling about the pics then saying " suddenly the magic key began to glow". Plenty of time yet though

Sadly I didn't win the handyman. Bugger. Thanks for all the likes though.

Right, kids' tea beckons. Back later.

McKayz · 01/03/2013 16:45

He saw the boy hit one of his friends so took matters into his own hands.

Nolda · 02/03/2013 09:27

Thanks for the tooth fairy info. I can't believe some people pay £5! We went for £2 as a first tooth. The fairy also left a note explaining her rates, so hopefully DD won't be disappointed when she gets £1 next time.

Kayz, at least DS1 is a loyal friend!

Indith · 02/03/2013 16:42

Oh dear Kayz! Still at least you know he stands up for his friends.

I am a bit in love with ds1's school as they have decided that for book day the kids have to go in pjs with their fave bedtime story and teddy. No costume to make! Woohoo!

I think dd can read, she knows most letters and understands blending and sounding out. She just chooses not to as making up her own stories is far more fun. Good luck to her reception teacher I say! I can't wait for her to start writing as I think she will write fabulous tales. Her language is always so flowery and descriptive, I love listening to her play "the shiny waterfall flowed quickly and speedily and the silver water splashed around and the unicorn played happily with her friends and she shouted excitedly".

We went to play at a friend's house today. Ds1 wet himself and left a wet patch on the sofa and ds2 gagged on some apple and threw up everywhere. Why me?
