As a few of us have popped early I thought I'd start us a post-natal thread.

OP posts:

theboutiquemummy · 07/02/2013 01:16

Ordering a Ewan as we speak little one crying his heart out DH sleeping through it of course !

Meringue33 · 07/02/2013 01:21

One Ewan ordered here. Baby woke up at 11pm just as mum was going to bed. Three feeds and two nappy changes later...

Bunny222 · 07/02/2013 01:31

gom = home. Duh!

Bunny222 · 07/02/2013 01:34

Bloody stupid phone!!

Thanks all for the Ewan tips, have just ordered one! DS hasnt slept properly all day which is really odd. I planned to get a sleep in during the day when he did but he wont settle for longer than half hour at a time :-( only got 2 hours sleep the previous night. Been feeling tearful and a bit hopeless about this lack of sleep. He is only a week old but I am feeling worse now than when we came gom after having him. Desperately need some sleep now :-(

Lostbobbles · 07/02/2013 01:59

I want a Ewan too!! but already got slumber bear Hmm which she seems to like although the thing turns off after five mins so have to keep pressing it. Angry.

Lois has had another really unsettled day, just seems miserable and in pain when awake. I'm sure my let down and oversupply is the culprit as she gulps down so much air HmmHmmHmm

Bunny222 · 07/02/2013 03:44

Still no sleep. This sucks :-(

Lostbobbles · 07/02/2013 04:32

Majorly sucks bunny, it will get better although mine is resisting this line of thought right now. Yawnnnnnn

Lora1982 · 07/02/2013 04:45

Ewans batteries are dead. Would i be unreasonable to use a fishing rod to poke through the shop door and get some AAAs? Cos the insensitive gits are shut. DPs up for work in a bit im just settliing back on the sofa in the hope the last feed was 'sufficient enough' for my little babies empty pitted stomach

2blessed · 07/02/2013 06:02

LO and I are planning to brave oxford street today, need to get/change some bits from john lewis and debenhams. Ewan has been on my wish list for ages, its time for me to get one!
Ds has slept from 11/12 - 7/8 for past 5 nights. Tonight he went down at 12 and woke up at 5.30 - pleased.
Had him weighed this week, he is now a whopping 11lbs 9 up from his birth weight of 8lbs 13 5 weeks ago.

MarasmeAbsolu · 07/02/2013 08:35

Oooohhh 2blessed, a sleeping baby!!!

DD had been fighting the swaddle so tried to put her in grobag with sheet accross the arms.
Worked partially from 9 till 11 before all hell broke loose and no feeds, bounce or cuddles could help...
She ended up feeding in our bed, where she hapilly slept til 5am this morning....

It is so easy, shame it freaks me out so much!
What a waste of a good bednest though!

Bunny222 · 07/02/2013 09:38

A new topic from me today ;-) am after your advice on pets and babies. My little sister is up this weekend to come and meet her nephew :-) Anyway, she has a dog (huskey) which she is bringing with her. She is staying at my mums but the dog will be coming with us out on walks/ out to pub etc. When we're at mums theres plenty of space so baby and dog can be in different rooms. My house is so small thats not going to work, she is obviously a big dog.
Question is: how do I introduce dog to DS??. Am guessing dog will smell him. I have no idea how the dog interacts with children, but she can be very boisterous and recently had sisters neighbours cat round the throat.
Doesnt bear thinking about...

Do I air on the side of caution and keep them apart this time? She is up all weekend. Dog owners/ those in the know, what did u do?

mrsbugsywugsy · 07/02/2013 09:47

bunny we have a cat so probably quite different but dp took an outfit that the baby had worn home from hospital and let the cat smell it to get her used to the baby's smell. this might work with a dog too.

I took dd to a friend's house who had a dog a couple of weeks ago, he is a friendly gentle dog so I just had to restrain him from slobbering on her Grin

mrsbugsywugsy · 07/02/2013 09:49

tbh if the dog had a reputation of being vicious I would not have let him near her though

Birdies · 07/02/2013 10:16

Lol loving all the Ewan purchases! Lets hope he's not shit!

I've realised that DD2 is really uncomfy with wind in the early hours which is why neither of us gets much sleep. I struggle to wind her as she's so drowsy - is there any medicine I can use do you think? She makes straining noises and things so I'm pretty sure it's wind. And I hear her swallowing lots of air.

Lora1982 · 07/02/2013 10:31

On the dog front ive got a yorkie whos bit me twice if ive made him scared. When i fetched baby home the plan was to let him sniff the blanket but he didnt care he was too excited to see me again bless. Hes not at all fussed around tge baby if anything he tries to lick him which isnt allowed obviously. Im not stupid though if i leave the baby in a room the dog has to come with me or he gets locked in his dog pen. Babies are ddifferent to us though so dogs dont sense any fear or badness off them so have nothing to react badly to. Just let the dog have a good old sniff but dont ever leave them alone. My cat didnt give two hoots she avoided him for about five days and stayed upstairs now she comes and sniffs his face or whatever (probably cos shes so desperate for me to feed her too) Dexter loves wtching her cos shes black and white so he is tranfixed with her contrastyness.

happyhow · 07/02/2013 11:13

Birdies, get some Infacol. I've been using it with Bailey and it makes a huge difference with his wind. I'd run out yesterday and he was absolutely miserable and kept waking up from his sleeps with pains. He was like a different baby in the evening once I'd gotten more.

Meringue, I hold Bailey at my side and his bum is pretty much in line with mine. Instead of being "tummy to mummy" he's parallel to me with my arm up his back and I cradle his neck then latch him on. It allows him to be more upright which seems to produce less sick! I then try to wind him over my shoulder and keep him up there for at least 10 mins while he's settling before I put him in bed.

Birdies · 07/02/2013 13:37

Thanks happy I've just bought some. Do you just give him some before bed? And after feeds or before? Thanks!

Birdies · 07/02/2013 13:41

Question for everyone - I don't know if good old Ewan is going to cast enough light in the room. At the mo I leave a lamp on all night so I can feed baby without having to switch a light on and off. But I'd like something a bit darker. What does everyone else do?

MarasmeAbsolu · 07/02/2013 13:52

Hi Birdie - I have a phillips Lumie-style lamp which I use on the lowest setting, and the Angel Care monitor, which has a blue LED very dim light.
It works fine - on all night!

Re Infacol - I think you are meant to give it before a feed - but DD is always ravenous, so in the precipitation, I usually forget :(

Pascha · 07/02/2013 13:54

I'm holding back on Ewan til everyone else gets theres and says its amazing. I just use the light from the iPhone at night, Dan seems to find his way most times now.

I'm sitting here typing this with him in the sling right now and I just noticed the dollop of banana cake mix squashed between his shoulder and the sling. Its gone all cold and sticky. Yuk. I knew it wouldn't take very long for DS2 to take after DS1 in the disgusting child stakes.

happyhow · 07/02/2013 14:15

You give infacol before EVERY feed. You have to be quite religious with it for it to work effectively.

I downloaded a torch app for my iPhone ages ago which I use during the night. Means hubby doesn't wake up.

ChutesTooNarrow · 07/02/2013 16:50

Spoka nightlight from ikea is perfect for night feeds, just enough light to locate nipple and baby's mouth but quite dim, I leave it on all night.

Pascha · 07/02/2013 18:56

My son is asleep Shock in his chair (fixed) Shock for more than 15 minutes ShockShockShock

He's snoring!

This boy hasn't allowed us to put him down for anything more than the duration of a wee, (and thats with fast flow), since he was born nearly 5 weeks ago Hmm. Last night he cluster fed and fed and fed, today he's nicely asked for milk approx every 1.5 hours and generally not screamed very much at all.

Whats the chances of being able to eat dinner in an hour?

GraceSpeaker · 07/02/2013 19:02

Cor, well done Pascha! Ours is turning into a velcrobaby during the day. At least we've got to the point where she can be persuaded that she's not actually hungry and is ready for a nap instead!
