As a few of us have popped early I thought I'd start us a post-natal thread.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MarasmeAbsolu · 07/02/2013 19:02

well Pascha, same here. DD fell asleep in her bouncer (albeit with vibration on) as DH had just returned from work and was 'helping' - bloody typical.
I transfered her to her bed semi-successfully too. Shame that it is so early, as she will prob wake up in 2 hours time.
Meanwhile, DD1 is being silly and winghy - typical :(

I am considering getting some help during the day, someone to either help with DD2 or help with the food prep to lighten the load. I am still working approx 2 hr per day, and getting very frustrated. Ideally, I would like DH to do some flexi work, but he won t agree to that. shame!

I had a young girl helping with DD1 when she was tiny, but I don't think I could go through it again - I kept stressing she'd drop DD1 in the river or similar Hmm

Pascha · 07/02/2013 19:07

The chair is supposed to swing but he's a bit Hmm at that so I fixed it for now. I'm off for a bath GrinGrin

Pascha · 07/02/2013 19:09

Well done Marasme Grin Do you think we are in for trouble overnight?

Grace Velcrobaby is the definition of Daniel most days.

Birdies · 07/02/2013 19:28

Me too! Xanthe has slept all afternoon in her swing for the last 3 days! I just take her out for feeds! I feel guilty I'm not carrying her though but I don't know why - hormones?!

Birdies · 07/02/2013 19:29

Ps this is what inspired me to fork out for a swing in case anyone's considering one. Not sure about the jiggling bit though!

Birdies · 07/02/2013 19:32

I'm still here....meant to say I wouldn't have her swinging in it all night though like the link suggests. Seems a bit much...

Pascha · 07/02/2013 19:46

Imagining baby Xanthe flying out of it at 3am now because sleepy Birdies forgot to do the buckle up. And we know she likes it on top speed...

Wink
Birdies · 07/02/2013 20:39

Lol! She'd probably land right back on me again!

I've just discovered the 'remember me until I log out' check box. Hmm might have been handy to have noticed that before!

happy do you clean the dropper after each use if its been in his mouth or just put it back in?

shakemyhead · 07/02/2013 21:38

It has taken more than 2 weeks to catch up on all births. Glad most of you are surviving.
Edd 14/01 baby Orla Elizabeth born 21/1 at local hospital. Planned home birth cancelled due to code red on ambulance imposed because of snow. Was 10 cm dilated when examined 1/2 hour after arriving at hospital. Discharged and home that night. All done on paracetamol and tens machine. Had some gas and air pre local for 2nd degree tear.
Since then wirlwind of feeding and feeding.
I don't know how I would cope with other DC or school run. DP has not even gone back to work. Arghhhhh

tinkletinklestar · 07/02/2013 22:00

Hi everyone

Ive come to moan (again sorry) took dd2 back through a&e again this morning as her xry was going through us all and she was clearly in horrendous amounts od pain!!

In the end saw the same consultant who discharged us with her codiene withdrawal at birth! Got some sense and some more medication for her.. I also did a small food shop & the school run for dd1 plus managedto feed myself too!

Dh is on holliday this week so he is sleeping in the day so I can sleep all night, its lovely to get sleep but I wanted to spend some time together this week!

From Monday im totally alone..so if the night os bad ive just got to struggle on through until he gets home totally shit its half term next week so I will have to attend play groups to entertain dd1!!

I feel awful wishing the new born phase to be over. .

happyhow · 07/02/2013 22:47

Congrats Shake!! Orla was one of our shortlist names if we'd had a girl.

Birdies, I just put the dropper back in. I'm not one for worrying too much about germs etc. He can't build up his immune system if he's not exposed...

I was at a friends for dinner and hubby had to call me home because Bailey wouldn't take the bottle I'd left. Going to have to fix that one...

MarasmeAbsolu · 08/02/2013 00:02

Tinkle - i just swear by online shopping, it saves so much time and enables me to buy loads of shit online
Glad your DD got more meds, hope they ll do the trick.

I have tried a bath on my own tonight - not a success - just cries cries cries. Given that she does not like the chNging mat, not a surprise either. I can t remember DD1 being like this, but she was a summer baby in a wRmer house...

Bunny222 · 08/02/2013 01:52

Thanks for the dog feedback. Will let you know how we get on.
Ewan arrives tomorrow, cant wait!!

Meringue33 · 08/02/2013 02:20

Orla is a lovely name! :)

Lostbobbles · 08/02/2013 08:31

Congrats Shake, fab name.

Hope some of you lovely ladies got some sleep. Anyone got a bf baby sleeping more than 3 hours yet? Please give me hope.

Pascha · 08/02/2013 08:50

Tinkle much as the thought of playgroup makes us all shudder, I found that actually its 2 hours of great fun for DS1 and a chance to sit down and drink tea and chat with other adults for me. DS2 sleeps mostly in the sling or the carrycot so its a nice break.

Lost and others, I can report this morning that Dan slept from approx 5.30pm til 9.30pm last night, woke him for a bottle and a nappy change, had 3oz ebm, woke 12.30 and 4.30 for boob and fell back to sleep within a few minutes each time. Woke at 6am for the day when the alarm went off.

This has never happened before. Long may it continue!

MarasmeAbsolu · 08/02/2013 08:52

Lost, DD occasionally manages, esp if she is between us in our bed.
I feel like i should persevere with the swaddling and bednest, but having her in bed with me is soooo much easier!
She would otherwise feed at 5, 6, 7, 9,11, 2, 5 and 8..... Seems like a lot, sure dd1 did not feed that often

Question of the day - how can i make bathtime (and change time) more acceptable to DD? She really hates being naked...

Pascha · 08/02/2013 09:03

They grow out of it. At least DS1 did, at about 4 months, til then we all despised bathtime. It got better after we started going swimming. DS2 hates being nappyless but he isnt bothered by having no clothes on. He quite likes a swish in the bath with us but only if he is almost completely submerged. As soon as the cold air hits he screams.

Lostbobbles · 08/02/2013 09:24

Marasme, I put a big thick towel down and cover as much as poss, when changing clothes, massaging etc. luckily she loves the bath but like Pascha, i make it deep so she is fully submerged and keep pouring water on her little podgy belly that sticks out. Grin

Lostbobbles · 08/02/2013 09:30

Thanks for the words of hope, Lois will sleep if on DH chest, but only managing 2hours max in basket. Her bowel situ doesn't help as constantly poo's or follows through, so have to change nappy which wakes he.

Birdies · 08/02/2013 09:47

I shouldnt have been so pleased about getting Xanthe to sleep somewhere other than on me on the day,..had the worst night yet. Just will not settle. Cries or strains every few minutes, literally just as I'm dropping off I'm awake again. I can't wind her as she stays asleep. If I wake her it takes ages to get her back to sleep.

I'd happily go back to the only every 2 hours breastfeeding now! Someone give me some answers!

SpringFlowers · 08/02/2013 09:52

I think I have been really lucky - DS is my fourth baby and he is so chilled out. He feeds every three to four hours and sleeps most of the time in between. He doesn't really cry at all. I put him in the sling during the day but he will sleep in the car seat and carrycot, and as we co-sleep, in our bed.

I am really sorry for those who are struggling, I think you are all doing really well and having had a difficult baby previously, I can safely say it does pass and they will eventually sleep. My dh has been back at work this week and it's been ok. I can manage but the early evening are fierce.

lollipoppi · 08/02/2013 09:54

Dd was awake from 9pm until 1am slept 30mins then awake again 1.30-2am then slept until 6am!! Had 4oz and slept until 9.30am (shame DS woke at 7am!)
Just need to figure out how to get her to be awake earlier in the evening so she isn't awake until 1am!!

Berniebennett · 08/02/2013 11:07

It's the small things bit I have just had my first successful shower (including a hair wash) with the little man being as good as gold in his bouncy chair, this is the first time since hubby has been back at work!

Birdies · 08/02/2013 11:18

Well done bernie!

I have a special announcement.....Ewan has arrived!
