As a few of us have popped early I thought I'd start us a post-natal thread.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

grace go with your instinct. I always make sure baby's awake at least 1.5 hours before bed. Haven't tried not doing it yet but she sleeps for 2 or 3 hours after that.

happyhow · 06/02/2013 14:31

Yes meringue but I don't think I do it properly! Also discovered crossing my legs and putting his body in the gap - that keeps him more upright too and he seems to take in less air. Going to ask HV this afternoon about getting his tongue tie snipped to see if that helps too.

MarasmeAbsolu · 06/02/2013 15:13

nothing to do with babies - but the meter reader man came round to take electricity and gas readings. I was on my own with DD2, he was really rude, kept ranting at me for a box DH left in front of the meter. I told him I could not help him with this (DD2 in my arms, heavy box on a high shelf), and he kept ranting more and telling me off for the meter being blocked.
He also dropped his reading thingy which dented the floorboard. I asked him to be careful, he just kept on ranting how the meter should be cleared.

I just told him it was not my priority right now, but that he could come back when DH is home if he feels that he cannot move the box. But he kept telling me how they have got a contract with electricity company meaning that they have the right to access properties anytime between 8 and 8. Anytime. Anytime.
I just ushered him out, saying nothing and closed the door.

He really freaked me out, and now I am sat here crying like a numpty. I hate feeling intimidated like this. I hate that usually I would take none of this shit, but that I am feeling so vulnerable with DD2 at the mo. :( :(

sorry for the rant :(

Pascha · 06/02/2013 15:29

What an arse! I know what you mean about feeling vulnerable. Last week was spent 50/50 in tears or happy. Its getting slowly better but doesn't really take much to pull me down again, especially when Daniel is screaming.

On that note, what a difference a dummy makes! Just for a few minutes when I have to put him down, I think there must be a mild degree of reflux there and the action of sucking stimulates enough saliva to calm it down. Just like me with the old Aardvark Semen (Gaviscon according to DH) in pregnancy. He's much happier in general.

I have a dilemma ladies. A nice one though. DH won his racing championship last year and his awards dinner is in 2 weeks time. I am most definitely 'between sizes' ie all the maternity wear is ill-fitting or too big now and the pre-pregnancy stuff is too tight at all the wrong places (not least the boobs which are much bigger).

So I have to go shopping for evening wear. But it will most likely only be worn once as I'm shrinking quite quickly. I have no idea what to look for since I spend all day every day in jeans and scummy milky snotty (today, DS1 has a lovely green cold) mis-shapen tops. I have lost all sense of style and have no time to look anyway so this could be fun.

MarasmeAbsolu · 06/02/2013 15:47

Aardvark Semen made me smile Pascha Grin

I am otherwise no reference, but what I do is browse ASOS, pick up loads I think will fit, and return what does not (free returns). What about a wrap dress which would be ok for in-between sizes?

MarasmeAbsolu · 06/02/2013 15:50

on another note - I am thinking of getting an Ewan dream sheep - pricey though! anyone got one with good things to say about it?

Birdies · 06/02/2013 16:23

I don't think I've ever been this tired. Anyone else feel like that? I was all ready to nap with DD2 on me whilst DD1 napped but she's started waking after half an hour rather than her usual 2 hours :(

I also swing from happy to crying. Sometimes I wish the sofa would swallow me up! But I think it's the sleep deprivation doing that rather than anything else.

Ooh I also want a Ewan sheep!

Sorry pascha can't help really though monochrome and lace things are in according to This Morning and Look magazine! Actually m&s had a nice lace one. Or Zara maybe (not for long dresses though). For long I'd head to Debbos. If you lived near me you could borrow one of mine as I have quite a nice collection (all of which im too fat for atm).

Birdies · 06/02/2013 16:26

I've just read the Amazon reviews marasme - am very tempted! Wonder what the volume is like though

www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B0040JSN7Y/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

Birdies · 06/02/2013 16:29

Oops I clicked 'add to basket' and 'order now'.....not too tired to online shop!!

Meringue33 · 06/02/2013 16:37

Happy I need a diagram :)

Birdie with you on the sleep deprivation. Oh yes :(

lollipoppi · 06/02/2013 16:41

Birdies I'm with you on the tiredness!! Since DD was born 2 weeks ago I've not stopped, ds1 is a handful and DP hasn't had time off work as we are self employed, however last night I hit my wall!!! I was like a walking zombie and feel even worse today! I.need.sleep!!!!!

Last night after an hour if DD crying I burst into tears and asked DP to take over and I went to sleep ........ Woke up to find DP asleep in bed and DD asleep in her Moses on her STOMACH!!!!!! Angry
Apparently this was the only way she would settle and MIL told him to do it .. FFS she is 2 weeks old!!!!

I'm pretty sure I'm not over-reacting, right!?

Birdies · 06/02/2013 16:52

My mum wants me to put DD2 on her tummy too. I actually want to but I'd feel dreadful if anything happened so I'm not going to. But I can totally see why it's more comfy for them and also gets wind up more easily. Such a shame they're safer on their backs. I was tempted to do it in the day when I'd keep an eye on her but was worried she'd get used to it.

So I can understand why your DP did it if he doesn't know about the risks (maybe mil doesn't either?!)

Birdies · 06/02/2013 17:02

Ps I don't think you're overreacting though, although I'm not the best judge as I get annoyed even when a nappy isn't put on exactly as I would do it!

Pascha · 06/02/2013 17:03

Think we're opposite ends of the country Birdies otherwise I might well take you up on that offer!

Aren't we all doing well? Lollipoppi I stormed off downstairs a couple of weeks ago at 4am refusing to deal with Daniel at all because he was crying and crying and crying for ages. Poor DH got the brunt of it. He had been fed and winded and everything and just would. not. shut. up. That was the worst, he's been much better since and, touch wood, starting to sleep a good 2-3 hours between night feeds.

Cejay8 · 06/02/2013 17:12

I'm listening to Ewan the sheep right now! As DS1 likes to turn it on and leave it in Sophie's moses basket. We've been using it quite a bit at night as it casts a little glow and think the white noise helps settle her. I think Ewan is really cute too. We have already had to replace the batteries though and it turns off after 20 minutes which isn't always long enough!

lollipoppi · 06/02/2013 17:34

The thing is we do actually let her sleep on her belly sometimes during the day as it does help with her wind, and we have discussed not doing it at night, maybe when she is a bit older but not at 2 weeks
I was defo overtired and it was a shock to wake up and find her on her belly!
Poor DP Sad hopefully he will just blame the hormones!! Grin and accept the lasagna cooking as forgiveness !

MarasmeAbsolu · 06/02/2013 17:38

oh lolli - I would be angry too.
Force your DH to read the SIDS leaflets and remind him that his mum does not know best.....

I bought Ewan too :) :) :)

Birdies · 06/02/2013 18:14

Lets all buy Ewan! We deserve him!!

Lora1982 · 06/02/2013 19:07

Ive got a Ewan only works sometimes though :-( got him as my prezzi from work we decided to introduce him asap so he'd learn to love him

GraceSpeaker · 06/02/2013 19:20

Evening everyone,

Has anyone had mastitis? Over the course of this afternoon, my left breast has become really painful in a way it hasn't been before. Quite a lot of the breast is sore, not just the nipple. Tried feeding Lizzie from it to see if it would reduce the pressure and ended up in tears, it was so painful. I'm really hoping it's not mastitis, as antibiotics would be awful after finally getting off them last week!

Lora1982 · 06/02/2013 20:03

Grace i dont know if its mastitis as noones ecer said but im on antibiotics for my right boob its got rock hard parts in it and areas of red its so hard to express from it i can only do it in the bath a pump does nothing. At first i had a blister on the nipple now thats healed he refuses to feed off it and i cant do anything until my boob decides to explode. Try putting warm flannels on it and massaging this helps me get trickles out it also helps when i do that and smother lansinoh on it

GraceSpeaker · 06/02/2013 20:11

The thing is, I can't find any hard or red bits. It just feels very heavy (even now I've expressed some milk) and sore. Tried the warm flannels - not much improvement. Feel so sorry for my poor DH - he came in from work to deal with my latest pain problem!

Hormonalhell · 06/02/2013 20:55

I've ordered my Ewan Grin

tinkletinklestar · 06/02/2013 22:09

Hi all

Ended up back in a &e today, dd really not improved and shes still velcro baby in pain after each pain.

The drs were useless basically said she has a cold and we have to just wait and see what happens with a follow up appointment in 4-6 weeks

MarasmeAbsolu · 06/02/2013 22:16

hormonal & birdies - I am sure Amazon appreciates our custom :)

Tinkle - that's crap. have you got an upright sling thingy for your DD?
When DD1 had silent reflux, she spent most of her days / some of my nights in the upright sling. I also fed her upright.

It is truly shit though, I hope she will get better overnight.
