Oh give me strength! It appears Santa has brought us a dose of chicken pox for Christmas! Any second time mums been through this?

crazypaving · 23/12/2012 19:42

bella noooooo!! Poor you! We've avoided it so far, got that joy to come. I hope you've got a mild strain. I've been told to use Virasooth - apparently expensive but v effective. Good luck!

Honey I've also been told repeatedly by an aunt not to touch evil grapes whilst bfing. I eat them most days and think of her Wink

Jo & huffle sympathies on the boob issues Sad

We're off in the morning - military operation, packing up car and boys and driving for somewhere around an hour and a half or so to see BIL for Christmas. Let's hope we can time the drive precisely between feeds so DS2 doesn't scream TOO much... I'm going to try to enjoy my last night of semi decent sleep until Weds night. Sigh. And I know DH is going to be trying to persuade me to stay until Thurs. 4 in a room? I think not.

I'm applying the stuff the doctor gave me for my hideous haemorrhoid issue and some days it gets better and some days it's just the same Sad Apparently if it doesn't improve they may have to lance it to get rid Confused God it's awful. It's not exactly fun sticking stuff up my arse I can tell you. Sorry, TMI.

Keep hoping DS2 is going to bring his bedtime earlier but it's not happening. Not sure if it's just because we're too chicken to put him upstairs earlier in case he wakes DS1. It's a bit of a tricky one. Doesn't help that DS1 has somehow made Ewan the Sheep disappear - we can't find him ANYWHERE and we REALLY NEED HIM!! Arrgggh. Try to ask a 2 year old what they did 5 mins ago though...Hmm

Happy Christmas everyone! I may check in from my phone when I need a moment of sanity, but in case I can't, ho ho ho!! Xmas Smile Xmas Biscuit where's the festive wine then hey??

Londonmrss · 23/12/2012 20:04

sympathy yomping.

my dad has already pissed me off.

me: "I'm going to pop her down for a nap now"
dad: "can I just hold her for a bit first?"
me: "well no, I'm putting her down for a nap. you can a bit later"
dad puts on grumpy face: "well you don't have to be like that, she doesn't even look tired."
me:"well I'm her mother so I'll do what I want."

Woolybob · 23/12/2012 20:11

Ho ho ho and Merry Christmas all Wine

We are back from the 500 mile round trip, actually not too horrendous - I sat in the back with dd to entertain her when not sleeping and fortunately didn't hit much traffic although both legs the queues on the other side of the motorway were bad so obviously lucky travelling the opposite way to most, hurrah for living oop north...

Now get 24hrs peace before the in-laws descend on us. Have already been told by mil it is "such a shame" that dd is so used to being held (god damn me and my unhealthy habit of cuddling my child) and repeatedly advised to drink Guinness to boost my breastmilk so will see what gems we get over Xmas.

Wishing you all healing boobs and pox free beans for the festive season Grin

bella2012 · 23/12/2012 21:01

Good luck crazy. I totally know the pain of four in a room. You can get through it, you do such a great job. Thanks so much for the chicken pox tip. Will look for it tomorrow.

So sorry you are feeling poorly huffle. You have no luck! Someone (maybe elpis) gave me a brilliant tip about A pregnancy friendly Lemsip substitute which I used while preggo. Boots own, or maybe their value range hot lemon drinks. Brilliant!

hufflepuffle · 23/12/2012 21:49

Oh gosh, so much posting today!! Elpis thank you for info on app the other day and thank you for further help now!! I will take some extra vit c. It's the avoidance of cough medicine which will annoy me! But hopefully I'm being a hypochondriac and will come to nothing major!! You are forever lovely! X

Poor Bella!!!! Aaaargh!!!! Hope kiddywinks get over them quickly and don't drive you totally batty.

Beeble I hav read so many times online to expose these manky nipples to sunshine.
A) I live in Ireland and it is dreary December
And
B) I live in a very built up part of suburbia with lots of nosy neighbours

I am dying to know how you manage to fit in 3 sessions of nude nipple sunbathing!!! I will however heed your advice on night time. I don't really leak but I've been wearing bra to keep pads in and keep creams on. I have literally not been bra less for 9 weeks except for shower. Really can't be helping! Thank you

Off to read the rest of the posts

hufflepuffle · 23/12/2012 21:58

Thanks Bella will try and get that tmrw. X

lisbethsopposite · 23/12/2012 22:03

Happy Christmas all - Xmas Smile

hufflepuffle · 23/12/2012 22:08

Crazy good luck on your trip. Why the hell do we do such impractical daft things over Christmas?? If you stay a fourth night I'll cross the Irish sea and give you a pat on the back myself!!

Wooly well done on 500 mile round trip!!!! I would be afraid DS would sleep entire time as car just knocks him out regardless of time of day!!

We had lovely day in town at Chridtmas market and walking around listening to carol singers and a remarkably eclectic mix of buskers and performers! Predictably DS slept whole time but mummy and daddy enjoyed atmosphere for him! Visited some friends and came home to wrap more presents! Finally feel properly Christmassy!!

Thank you for kind wishes on approaching cold and dodgy nipples, you are all patient and lovely!!

Merry Christmas to all those leaving their broadband connection!!! Good patience and good tidings to you and your kin!!

Xmas Grin Xmas Grin

nenehooo · 23/12/2012 22:58

Just popping on to say Merry Christmas! Went to see a friend with a 1 year old and she laughed and jokingly told me off for picking up mini when she started getting grumpy in her carseat... Now I'm paranoid I'm picking her up too much. DH has hunted at this too. i do have to leave her to cry sometimes, eg toilet breaks/ making breakfast for me/getting ready to go out, but it breaks my heart and doesn't make sense to me to leave her screaming for the sake of it. Someone tell me I'm right for not letting her cry and stress herself out if it's not necessary? Squid?!
Bells comp is a great idea - my dmil is away but also hasn't ever had children of her own so she's pretty good at not giving advice... And my family's perfect, so doubt I'll be in the running Wink
Good luck to you all making mammoth journeys, and hope your wishes all come true for Christmas, namely good amounts of sleep, non-sore nips, calm & quiet & smiley beans, pain free, non scary sex and pre-pregnancy bodies... Lots of love to all x

Midgetm · 23/12/2012 23:06

bella bollocks to the pox. Is it both DC's or just one? Have you had it yourself? If you have hopefully DC2 won't get it. My DD had it as a toddler and it wasn't that bad at all. Avenco bath stuff was great for stopping it it itch.

smileyhappymummy · 23/12/2012 23:28

bella dd1 came out with chickenpox on chridtmas eve when she was 2, actually was lucky and had it mildly, fingers crossed will be the same for you, just make sure you are fully stocked with calpol! I had it age 21 2 weeks before finals at was quite poorly so was glad in a way dd1 got it as a child.
nenehoo I didn't leave dd1 to cry unless I had to and don't plan to with dd2 either. Think there is some research suggesting thwt responding to them more actually leads to more secure attachment and is better for children but can't remember details in sleep fuddled brain! Anyway I think you're right!
Sympathy to all those struggling with boob problems / lurgys/ relatives!

bella2012 · 24/12/2012 00:31

Thanks smiley. Midget- it is just ds1 at mo. Not convinced it is definitely chicken pox but not sure what else it might be. He only has about 7 or 8 spots they are all over his trunk. He has a bad cold so we thought the high temp was due to that. What other symptoms did your dc's have? Sorry to everyone else that again I am blathering about dc1 and not the baby! Seriously, if I just have the baby to look after, I see that as a rest!! Ds1 is good fun but is much more taxing on my worn out, frazzled brain!

Squid your Christmas sounds blissful! Enjoy your feast!! Sounds fab!

Huffle I meant to say, your new house sounds fab. Difficult circumstances getting it refurbished and actually doing the moving, but sounds like it will be so worth all the effort in the end.

Glad the party wasn't too bad cherry. You are such a good daughter in law! Are you missing an English Christmas at all? I know you saw your folks recently but it must still be weird not coming home if that is what you normally do. i am really intrigued about how you ended up living in japan- did you meet your fella over there? Feel free to tell me to stop being so nosy!! I just find all of that stuff fascinating! Me and my lovely friend braved a drink at the pub in our village the other day and in an effort not to just talk about our babies all night shared the stories of how we met our husbands and it was so interesting (perhaps more so having not been out for 7 weeks!)

Ah man I am tired. Ds currently doing his shark attack style feeding when he writhes around and beats my chest. It is not fun. Does anyone else have this?

crazy- sympathy on the piles thing. I have similar but not quite as bad ishoos and I bloody hate it. Do you think it is a second baby problem? I never had them the first time. Hope your stress levels aren't too high. I have to travel from Northumberland to Kent with two of them early in the new year. Please can you pass on some top tips after your travels?!

MickeyTheShortOne · 24/12/2012 00:39

hi, running in to ask a question im afraid, will catch up properly when.i have time... DDs skin is peeling, mostly off her feet and hands but some off her torso too, she hasnt got a temperature (as far as i can tell, stupid i know, but would i know instinctively if she was too hot?), is this normal? my mum said its common for overdue babies but is also a symptom of kawasakis, which my brother had when he was little..slightly worried!

Zara1984 · 24/12/2012 01:04

Merry Christmas all!

Had my first post-baby shag this afternoon. Wasn't that bad I guess, not helped by DH's jetlag. The best position for DH's enjoyment (from behind) is the most ouchy one on my scar tissue, annoyingly. Sore but not unbearable.

Phrase that comes to mind is from Borat: "vagine like sleeve of wizard" Confused

Woolybob · 24/12/2012 03:07

mickey dd shed her skin like a snake a few weeks after birth so I think it is normal. Midwife suggested olive oil but we just left it and it's fine now.

Don't think I could tell the difference between dd running a temperature and just being hot so I'd always use a thermometer but I am a paranoid chronic worrier Don't know if you were on this thread at the time smiley's lo was poorly but apparently the ear ones are rubbish in little babies so you're better with an underarm one. I think she'd probably have more symptoms if it was kawasaki's thou - redness maybe?

Smorgs · 24/12/2012 03:15

mickey I think that's normal. Smorglets skin all peeled off when he was about 2-3 weeks, it looked horrendous like he was a snake shedding skin. He was overdue by a week (3 weeks by uk dates).

huffle gutted for you re thrush what a nightmare you're having. I've been wearing a bra non stop too but after you mentioned that I'm going brakes tonight as seems logical that would encourage sthg like thrush? Luckily I'm only really leaking when I feed from boon not in use so I just make sure there is a muslin across my tum to catch his spit up and my leaks!

bella poor you re chicken pox just before Christmas Sad

zara glad your dh is home with you and congrats on the shag - I'm still too scared and tired and grumpy and fat

Smorgs · 24/12/2012 03:16

Brakes? I meant braless

Beccus · 24/12/2012 06:02

bella, must be something about babies born on 28th oct - mine does shark attack feeding as well as dog with a bone
:-) poor baby beccus has her 1st cold. not fair at xmas Sad

londonlivvy · 24/12/2012 07:15

Yep, Bella and beccus, shark attack feeding here. Argh.

I am so so tired. Why is she still not going for a longer stretch in the night? 8weeks today, had 5.5oz at 10pm but woke at 230 and then 615. How can I persuade her to sleep longer. I'm so tired and never felt less excited about Christmas in my life. No booze, no dairy and no sleep. Awesome. As for sex, It's a distant dream that I might consider when I've actually had some sleep.

Sorry to be such a doom monger but I honestly thought she would be getting better by now, gradually extending spells during the night, but no. I've had three am wake up for over a month now.

bella2012 · 24/12/2012 07:15

Beccus, my LO has his first cold too! I swear our two have parallel lives!!

bella2012 · 24/12/2012 07:40

Ah Livvy sorry to hear you are down. You are not alone by any stretch. My ds wakes even more frequently than that and is completely unpredictable. If you know there are feeds at ten and 2 could you not delegate them to your df or mil for a couple of nights? If df is off over Christmas, he wouldn't mind being roped in would he? As you say, no booze and no dairy sucks! You deserve some bloody sleep!

Zara1984 · 24/12/2012 07:40

bella beccus my DS was born on 28 Oct and he occasionally thrashes around on the bottle! Shark babies indeed....

nenehooo · 24/12/2012 08:02

Thanks smiley... It's also absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I'm obsessed with my baby and love the cuddles either Wink
Zara congrats on the sex, I keep saying to DH that we must try, he says that's a real turn on in his most sarcastic manner. But he does understand. and he saw the gallons of blood. Enough said! Wizards sleeve syndrome is also a worry - hence why I'm lying here exercising my pelvic floor like a demon Grin
Livvy so sorry you're not getting sleep. Mini suddenly started going through one night, with no warning or clue that she was going to - this was around 8 weeks, So it still could happen. Really hope it does for you, and all the others getting less than enough sleep.

Londonmrss · 24/12/2012 09:54

ugh routine totally ruined by being away from home at my parents' place. we've gone from 5-6 hour sleeps at night to her waking every 1-2 hours. happy Christmas to us.
