When the cluster feeding stops?! Confused With dd I started at six weeks but she was bottle fed… it's a lot easier

HoneyMumandSon · 15/12/2012 19:25

Crap. We're 7 weeks and the cluster feeding has just started...

EggNogMichelle · 15/12/2012 19:34

Problem is I thought he was feeding well before he was weighed, and that was the only way we knew he wasn't feeding properly, and his behaviour has completely changed since changing his feeding and gaining weight, it's much more content and alert/ virtually no screaming! So although I hate them, I can see the benefits of weighing him for now (plus the wrath of my MW mother would not be worth not weighing him!)

We plan one bath per week, with a sponge down every other day.

How long can he stay in his bouncy chair for? Bought one today and he went straight to sleep in it!

CODwidow · 15/12/2012 19:36

Our cord has just fallen off at a week old, can't believe a week has passed already Sad
We've had two baths but I just tend to pass her to one of the boys while their in the bath splash a little water on her then out she comes. Smile

SpottyTeacakes · 15/12/2012 19:37

Dd used to spend ages in her bouncy chair I don't think it's like car seats where they shouldn't stay in them for long. Must get it out! I'm so tired right now how long does it take to get used to the lack of sleep?!

MaMaPo · 15/12/2012 20:54

So frustrated - had two opportunities for a nap this afternoon (30 mins and 90 mins) and just couldn't sleep. That makes me feel a bit desperate. This is the time when I can usually catch up on an hour or two of sleep. :(

HoneyMumandSon · 15/12/2012 20:57

Dash has finally started to like his swing :) He's still not convinced by his bouncy chair but we will persevere

EggNogMichelle · 15/12/2012 21:03

I have now been peed and pooed on!

Secondsop · 15/12/2012 21:26

brooke thank you so much for the link to the breastfed baby timeline - I'm going to be reading it a lot over the coming weeks.

yuletopian99 · 15/12/2012 21:42

Hi mummies! Sorry to interrupt the thread, and probably sound idiotic but what do contractions feel like? Just higher and lower waves of pain/discomfort, or are there times inbetween when it stops feeling of anything? And does the baby go mental? Have no idea what I'm.looking out for..

Secondsop · 15/12/2012 21:51

yuletopian mine felt pretty much like menstrual cramps. At the start they were EXACTLY like menstrual cramps in type, strength, area, but thry got more intense until they were like very painful menstrual cramps that ebbed and flowed in intensity. Just before my waters broke the pains radiated a bit higher and lower than the pelvic area. The whole time, the contractions came and went in waves, with clear periods of no pain between them, although there were the odd occasions where they would run into each other without clear daylight between them. Each one built up to a peak of pain that subsided.

brooke89 · 15/12/2012 21:56

Baby was very active throughout mine - I had permanent back ache and then period pains that would
come and go but they were harder to recognise! Towards the end the contraction would start in my back and move round to my lower bump.

You're welcome seconds I found it really helpful Smile

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 15/12/2012 22:44

Ethan is exactly a week old ( well a few minutes ago) it goes way too quickly! :(

Just catching up on today's news and shall be back with something more substantial to say in a bit.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 15/12/2012 22:58

We're with everyone on the cluster feeds. Thankfully we've fed early this evening (from 5-8) and has slept well. I can't remember who said about rousing in the middle of a feed. We do feed, wind, feed, wind, bum change, feed, wind. It takes 30 mins - 1hr each time but he tends to sleep for 2-4 hours after so gotta be worth it.

Bellaboo123 · 15/12/2012 23:46

Nearly non stop feeding since 7.30 feels like permanently glued to my boobs...screams when I put her down...it's going to be a long night! Hoping its just a growth spurt and we're back to normal tomorrow!

Anyone expressing - how much can you express in how long? Also how quickly does LO drink it? I managed to express 1oz with my medela swing and she guzzled it down in about a minute! Also do you warm the milk up? I just sat the bottle in a cup of hot water to warm through...is that right?

Sorry for mammoth post!

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 16/12/2012 00:56

Stacey, our clusters are like yours but last 5 hours and only involve 10 minutes of sleep!

2 hours kip, now feeding again. Fingers crossed for 2 more hours...

EggNogMichelle · 16/12/2012 01:07

Bella I have a manual pump and will get 1oz after about 20mins of pumping, which Felix downs in a matter of minutes. The MW told me to warm it in hot water, so that's what I'm doing.

First night with having Felix in the bedroom and DH and I both sleeping at the same time. Not going to jinx it by passing comment yet, so fx for a good night!

Bellaboo123 · 16/12/2012 02:39

Good luck eggs fx crossed.

FriendofDorothy · 16/12/2012 03:22

I have done what I said I would never do and slept with Edward in our bed. He is so mucousy after his fast delivery that he isn't coping with sleeping on his back. He sounds like he is choking. But he does sleep on my chest.

I am hoping it will pass. Do you think its ok?

SpottyTeacakes · 16/12/2012 03:36

I think it's fine FoD Smile as long as you're all safe etc

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 16/12/2012 03:58

FoD Ethan slept on me for the first few nights, I did not sleep at all, I am not designed to co sleep. A whole week down the line and he sleeps in his crib fine. You'll be fine, do what you need to, it's very early days!

Well we were up at 12, then 3.30, still feeding but hopefully will do another 3 hrs after :)

SpottyTeacakes · 16/12/2012 04:20

We're having another shitty night Sad

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 16/12/2012 04:33

Oh spotty hugs, I hope things get better. I know it's hard when you're sleep deprived but try to focus on the positives.

Bellaboo123 · 16/12/2012 04:57

Sorry to hear spotty - is it worth calling the MW for some tips/reassurance?

Stay strong it can only get better

HoneyMumandSon · 16/12/2012 05:22

Sorry to hear that spotty. Unmumsnetty hugs and hope things pick up soon
