Thanks chunky I'm currently expressing the left (theres a lovely image for you Smile) and have just fed on the right so will give her another feed on the right before bed and will continue with the pattern you suggest. I know she won't have regained her birth weight by Monday but I'm hoping she will have done enough for them to be satisfied.

YellowWellies · 22/11/2012 21:37

Horsey are you taking iron tablets? I get a cracking headache when I've forgotten to take mine for a couple of days.

GTbaby · 22/11/2012 21:41

Hmmm was a little ranty before. DH was being a prick as well. Although he has made amends.

Now indulging in retail therapy. Trying to decide between mei tai or ring sling.

Chunkychicken · 22/11/2012 21:46

I've bought a close carrier GT which is a ring sling I think.

YellowWellies · 22/11/2012 21:49

GT I've got a mei tai for around the house / short strolls as it's super quick to put on and a huggabub from my sister for longer walks as it's more supportive for my back but a bit more fiddly to put on. Both are fab though. I've not tried a ring sling so would be interested to hear how they are. I do love putting J in a sling though - he is tres chilled when in it.

Passmethecrisps · 22/11/2012 21:55

My goodness GT you were certainly not being ranty. Today seems like it has been a tough day for us all actually. Enjoy sling buying.

We have been treating wee P with Infacol today. She is proper grumpy at times and was clenching her fists so hard they went all white while crying and pulling her knees up. I think it's just trapped wind as opposed to actual colic thankfully but I don't want to wait for it to get any worse.

Watching Mad Men with a kitty on my knee and DH stretched out fighting sleep. P is snoozing in her swing. She hates it being on but likes to sleep in it just stationary. It does swing slightly just with her movements.

blonderthanred · 22/11/2012 22:33

I have the Close Caboo Chunky & GT which I tried for the first time today - DH uses it a lot and it really sends him to sleep. DS not DH! Well actually both.

Passme I have also cracked open the Infacol tonight after this terrible day of screaming. Only thing I am confused about is it says to give a dropper full before every feed, but part of the problem is that he is being so haphazard with the feeding, either cluster feeding for hours or not latching on properly and just bobbing about hysterically shredding my nipples. So I don't know exactly when to give the Infacol as I can't tell in advance if it will be a proper feed or just a comfort suck.

I've also given him a dummy for the first time to try and save my nipples. I didn't want to yet but it does seem to have soothed him. Oh today has not been a good day.

GTbaby · 22/11/2012 22:38

What to expect BABY has a feeding notes feature and its free. I only realised this after paying for another one. Thought I'd let others know.
Most useful at night as I forget when last feed was. N my brain is a fuzz but if I know feed was 3 hours ago he is hungry.
He looks like such an angel laying on my lap asleep. Better put him down n have my dinner

Passmethecrisps · 22/11/2012 22:57

10 o'clock dinner GT - awesome for your digestion!

blonder I wondered the same thing. I tried a breast feed tonight - lasted 3 hours and was punctuated by wee snoozes and shifting from boob to boob. I don't think you can use too much. It is very hard to know.

kirrinIsland · 23/11/2012 01:50

I've got a Mai tei and it is great, I love mine. I used it with DD1 all the time - she didn't go in her pram till she was 4 months. Been using it this time round as well. I also have an ergo for longer walks as there's more support.

first feed of the night. She's been asleep since 10. I know that's good but I know feel like my eyes ere glued shut! It's so hard to stay awake sometimes.

GTbaby · 23/11/2012 02:46

Ordered Mai tai n a ring sling. Will see which i preff.

Ps my previous post was in relation to a iPhone app lol.

10pm dinner is normal for me Blush.

daisychain76 · 23/11/2012 03:15

Blonder l usse infaacol and just try to leave abbout 2.hours between doses, so he is not sloshing with it! I also just do it at night as in the day he brinngs wind up better. Can?t believe l am sat posting abiout wind and listening to a boxing phone in on radio at this time!

I have a moby wrap but the draw back is it is so long it gets all over the floor when l have to put it on outside.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 23/11/2012 03:17

What was everyone saying about colds? The little O has a cold Sad at the mo is not affecting his feeding but he is really mucusy. Last time this happened to one of my newborns we ended up with a chest infection.

Did someone say they used olbas ? Also someone mentioned a saline solution technique which I hadn't heard of, was is squirting up one nostril, and lying on the side? Please could you remind me?

No sling here but could do with one I will be keeping my eye on your discussions.
Xx

NervousAt20 · 23/11/2012 03:20

Up again Sad after an hour. She doesn't seem that interested in feeding just wants to be awake and held I'm shattered so hoping she goes longer then an hour when I finally manage to out her down

I had such a randum dream about asda car park Hmm how exciting lol

NervousAt20 · 23/11/2012 03:21

Sorry sophia not sure what's been said in colds, hopefully someone will be along soon or there should be info within the last few pages of this thread. Hope your LO gets better soon x

rowingdowntheriver · 23/11/2012 03:34

It feels like ages since I've posted! I usually have the energy to read the thread during night feeds but not quite enough to actually type a message.

sophie, you can buy saline drops/spray from the chemist for a couple of pounds which helps to temporarily clear a blocked nose. Good to use shortly before a feed to help baby breathe.

Putting their basket on an angle by propping books under the head end also helps mucous drain from their nose while the sleep as it is often when lying flat on their backs that the mucous builds up.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 23/11/2012 03:38

Thanks both. How widerful to have friends at 3am!

We have his basket tilted and I will be off to the chemist in the morning to get so e saline drops. Poor old thing sounds so rattly.

Xx

Chunkychicken · 23/11/2012 05:01

Think I have a little snot monster here too. He normally snuffles as a feeding cue (so cute when DD describes what he's doing!) but this is a bit more full on.:(

Chunkychicken · 23/11/2012 05:29

He's currently sleeping on his side (his preferred position) on my chest as I daren't move him yet after a big feed - he keeps burping, coughing & spluttering and I'm worried he'll choke in his basket :( He sounds so bunged up.

rowingdowntheriver · 23/11/2012 06:36

This thread definitely makes the helps the nights go faster sophia, so useful to have company online!

My LO is really snotty / bunged up too. He seems worse at night for some reason which doesn't help with the night feeds at all.

DH and I had our first night out tonight whilst MIL babysat. We went to see Skyfall which was really good, I'd definitely recommend it. DS2 slept the whole time we were out so she didn't even need to give him a bottle when we were out. Is good to know it worked out well as makes me more confident of doing it again.

rowingdowntheriver · 23/11/2012 06:39

Oh, and congratulations and welcome Amyr (and anyone else I've missed recently)

GTbaby · 23/11/2012 06:53

I was up at 3 as well. Read what I wrote bit couldn't form any words I was such a zombie. But I think the jist of it was... The first person to admit their LO slept thro the night Is gona get flamed Angry. Lol -but kinda serious-

After discussion other day. At 5weeks n 2 days. We tried to dtd. Note the tried. Felt very uncomfortable so had to stop. DH was super duper lovely about it. But I felt like poop. Sad. Will have to put it off for a few days.

Turning into a zombie again so night night lol

Sophiathesnowfairy · 23/11/2012 06:59

It took me ages to get back to sleep after his feed, I was worried listening to his breathing. It seems worse after a feed.

Now it is operation try to keep him awake for an noir after breakfast! This s my biggest challenge at the mo!

StuntNun · 23/11/2012 07:04

I mentioned before that Karvol, Vicks, etc. do vaporiser plug ins that release menthol into the room at night and are great for keeping your nose clear. The saline nasal drops/spray are great for adults too, especially when you're blocked up with dry snot (I think we're way past TMI alerts now!)

Morning. Bed at 11. Fed at 2 and up for the day at 6. Two good nights as I have him back in our bed. Not ideal, but neither is a night with no sleep.
