PMSL YF. I think I've seen that before, but it's still pretty funny Smile

We went to see my new nephew yesterday afternoon. (MG - I already have 3 nieces and 2 nephews and have been an Aunty for 12 years!) He's a big lad at 10lbs but still seemed teeny compared to Johnny even though he's only 15lbs! When I walked into the maternity ward carrying Johnny, the nurse said "sorry we don't do refunds" LOL bet it's not the first time that she's used that line! There were twins in the room opposite and I caught a glimpse of them as they were getting carried down the corridor. They were sooo cute, and I actually thought to myself for a moment about how nice it must be to have twins. Tell me that it's too soon and that I definitely don't want to be having twins!!!!! ShockShock

Elf and MG we seem to be taking turns! Johnny has just come through a waking all the time at night phase and into a sleeping well phase. He slept from 7pm, until I woke him at 7.30am. I am wise enough now in baby care to know that this is just a phase, it will soon pass and he will be wakening through the night again, probably sooner rather than later!!

ButtonMoon · 08/05/2006 11:03

Just when I think I am on my own with a baby experience.....how wrong can I be??!!!! DS is having a very bad time at night at the mo. Goes down at about 7 but then tends to wake up 3-4 times a night and awake for the day at 6!! To top it all DD has started to wake in between the times DS wakes!! Oh joy of joys!! Keep telling myself...this too will pass....but am shattered! Plus just found out that my Dad has cancer; so I am going round there every day, so life is manic at the mo. I am also having a nightmare getting him to sleep...won't let me cuddle, rock, sing, walk him and won't go on his own...I end up resorting to the boob Shock which I know is probably not helping things.

Elf1981 · 08/05/2006 13:13

BM - sorry to hear about the rough time you are having at the moment.

RE sleeping, we had a bad night Friday night, up every 30 mins or so. However, I have had two nights of sleeping from around 10:00 ish to 4:30 ish so not too bad. I have found that sleep has increased as I have put her back into her sleeping bag. She's a bad sleeper without it, seems to need to comfort of putting her feet up and finding something. Have ordered a couple of 0.5 and 1 tog sleeping bags for when the weather turns warmer so we can still keep her in the sleeping bag. Now if we can just stretch the sleep from 4:30 - around 6:30 I'd be well happy!

mawbroon · 08/05/2006 15:12

Oh bum. Johnny slept for over two hours this morning which I thought was great compared to his usual one hour, but when I went to pick him up, he was burning.

His temp was 38.8c and he was just lying there. I phoned doc who has only just phoned back, but also NHS 24 for advice. I stripped him and gave him calpol. He was also happy to sit bf and has been doing so for about 3 hrs! His temp is almost back to normal, but he is not himself. The doc wants me to bring him in at 5.20pm. I think we have done well getting to 28 weeks without as much as a sniffle but poor little Johnny looked so pathetic. Last time I took his temp, he was trying to eat the thermometer while it was under his arm, so I think he's probably going to be ok!
I have surprised myself at how calm I was. I always imagined that I would panic and be useless when faced with an ill baby.

bm sorry to hear your news

LOL YF. He's been feeling himself in the bath for quite a number of weeks now!! Wink

Elf1981 · 08/05/2006 19:04

MB - I started a thread about this on Sat, Evie had a temp of 38.7 at the highest. She was miserable, radiating heat. Stripped her off, calpoled her, followed advice on NHS direct etc. She was fine later that evening, but still horrible to see.

Did you take Johnny to the docs?

mawbroon · 08/05/2006 19:11

I took Johnny to the docs at 5.20pm Elf and he was right as rain and his temperature was normal. Doc checked his ears and chest etc and asked me "are you sure he wasn't just hot with too many covers on in bed" AngryAngryand then probably put on the notes that Johnny suffers from an over anxious mother.
We carried out the evening routine as normal and when I was feeding him to put him to bed he was roasting again. Temp is back up to 38.6, have given him more Calpol and some water although he wasn't impressed with the water. He hasn't slept since this morning but is showing no signs of going to sleep just now. I will take his temp in another half hour and then decide what to do then. If I phone NHS 24 again, they will probably tell me to go to the hospital as I think they err on the side of caution.

mawbroon · 08/05/2006 19:18

Oh there's silence from his room now. I am torn between going to check he's ok every 2 mins and leaving the wee lamb to get some sleep. I know that if I go in and even feel his forehead then he will wake, but I feel that I can't NOT check him.

Oh dillema

Elf1981 · 08/05/2006 19:19

MB - NHS Direct recommends taking babies under 1 with a temp of over 38' to hospital. I would call them with it flaring up again, just to be cautious. Hope it all goes well. Angry at the doctor by the way, what a tosser!

Elf1981 · 08/05/2006 19:20

sorry, x posts.

If I leave Evie asleep for a bit, I find I can stick the thermometer under her arm without a major problem. Try leaving him for 20 mins, or til he wakes up, whatever comes first.

Elf1981 · 08/05/2006 19:21

On another subject, Evie is crawling! Okay, it's backwards and in circles, but she is still going it!!

mawbroon · 08/05/2006 19:22

That's my line of thought too Elf. I'll check him once we've had our tea and take his temp. He's got no clothes on and is just under a sheet so it should be minimum disruption to get in there with the thermometer. If it's still high then I'll phone NHS 24 again.

mawbroon · 08/05/2006 19:23

Oh well done Evie!! I hope she finds the forwards gears soon!! Johnny isn't bothering his backside about crawling yet in fact he still hasn't rolled from back to front Shock but I'll let him off seeing he's ill Wink

mawbroon · 08/05/2006 19:26

You on MSN Elf? i've still got your email address and will add you to my list if that's ok?

mummygow · 08/05/2006 22:29

yeh - I'm back on line Grin

BM - so sorry to hear about your dad and how shattered you must be feeling with the 2 kids wakeing, at least Jessica sleeps through her brothers wakening.

MB - How is Johnny? Hope he is feeling better soon. It's so Sad when they are ill.

Elf - waytogo Evie GrinHopefully all that moving around will tire her out and let you have a rest!!

Jockey - hope you had a better night last night Smile

YF - Glad your sister is o.k. I don't think it's his teeth, he had started moving around the cot and bumping his head and I could just go and move him and he would go back to sleep but now he wants to stay awake for 2 hours, but to be fair he has got a stinking cold again so taking him back to doctors tomorrow at 10am, the cough is choking him!!

mummygow · 08/05/2006 22:32

Oh forgot to say Cmaeron is sitting by himself now - he looks so much bigger!!

Piggiesmum · 08/05/2006 23:05

Hi all

MG - sorry to hear about you and dp.

Elf - that sucks about your payrise. Have you contested it on grounds of discrimination. And justignore friends thoughtless husband. I'd have been tempted to say "Actually she's very healthy, just not fat!" but I am suffering from hormones atM

YF - hope you sister is ok. It sounds like abit might be a blessing in disguise for her.

Hi tjacksonpfc - welcome to the October thread.

MB - hows the signing going. Are you doing it all yourself of going to classes. I've been thinking about doing it with ds. Wow at Johnny taking chicken and stuff. Ds is still on pureed veg. I think I am in danger of being an overprotective mum. Congrats on becoming an auntie too.

Elf - know what you mean about the hair pulling. Ds is also grabbing chunks of neck and face. Shock ouch and I started saying "No, don't grab mummys face" in Supernanny type way lol

NM - hope you have enjoyed your holiday. Ooo i just fancy a week in Greece, sounds lovely.

Ds is teething and getting constipated poor little fella. It breaks my heart seeing him in pain. You should see his face when the calpol comes out. His eyes almost pop out of his head with glee as he reaches up, grabs the spoon and licks it clean like it's the last bit of calpol in the world. He waking up alot too so you're not alone ladies.

He is getting happier on his tummy and has found that rolling over in his cot is great fun especially as it brings mummy running when he whinges cos he has got one of his arms stuck through the bars.

He only lays on his side, sticks his feet in between the bars and pushes himself round in circles lol

Piggiesmum · 08/05/2006 23:18

just had to share this.

After a few glasses of wine each, dh says "You've made a lovely baby there"
Me:- well I had a bit of help
DH - not much, you did most of the work
Me(to ds) - well daddy provided half the ingredients.I was just the oven.
Dh - yes but a very good oven, (pause) you're a drinks fountain as well":o

Yokefleet · 09/05/2006 07:03

MB how is Johnny this morning?
will go and catch up on the thread now!

OP posts:
Elf1981 · 09/05/2006 07:58

Oooh, got up late this morning. Supposed to get up at six, but got up at seven. If my mum hadn't been hammering at the door at seven, I think I might still be in bed. I blame it on my demon sleeper, she decided that she was going to be awake until one!! Annoying thing is that she was all fast asleep from eight til ten, she only woke up when I moved her to her room, which is getting to be a bit of a habit. Then she decided not to feed this morning so I'm trying to express both boobs to a)give her enough milk and b) stop me exploding at work, plus go to the loo, brush my hair, put on my makeup, get ready and another zillion things all at the same time. Made it to work by 7:45 though, so DH should make it by 8:00 so neither of us were late.

MB - hope Johnny is better now.
PM - Evie clamps her mouth shut whenever the calpol is out. It isn't used often, just when I have thought she's running a temp or having trouble with her teeth, so we're still on the first bottle from the doctor that I got at her 8 week jabs, but she really does not seem to like it. Which was annoying the other day when she had a temp over 38' and it was a struggle to chuck the calpol down her throat!

mawbroon · 09/05/2006 13:23

Hi all. Johnny isn't great again today. I've started a thread in the health bit and been given some good advice and I am going to see the HV at 2pm at the baby clinic. I'm not going to rush to see the patronising doc again as I think it's just one of these things that we just have to sit out.
He's being pretty clingy and wants to bf all the time which is probably the best medicine for him. Turns out that PILs have both got nasty sore throats so he probably caught it from them, but is lucky to only have a temp.

Yokefleet · 09/05/2006 15:13

mb what did the hv say? hope Johnny is feeling better now.
