Holy Moley guys. Babies climbing the stairs already!!?? That's scary!

teacakes · 25/07/2006 21:20

hello there from a sweaty me, who thinks i am going mad as i am sure i posted on sunday night but apparently not.

Nervousmum - what are you going back to do? good luck on your first day back.

Mawbroon - you must be a super mum - i cannot imagine how i'd cope with childminding as well as looking after DD. do you need to have extra cots in the house for your client's kids? it must be a logistical nightmare!

YFleet / Elf - wow stairs already. DD has only just managed to get onto her knees. We have these open stairs in the house - I am dreading her getting close to them.

mozarellamamma - btw I live in a village called Buckden. Sometimes it feels very very small. I had a bit of a bad day yesterday and it all felt very blue.

Does anyone else's babies have any heat rash, any good suggestions on how to keep them at bay?

morningpaper · 25/07/2006 21:23

Gosh I have about 500 posts to catch up on here so I really have NO CHANCE!

Mine is just starting to crawl, she can pull herself up to a standing position on just about anything (keep pulling furniture onto her head) and is starting to say WORDS which is just the CUTEST THING - cat, mioau, mummy, daddy, hello, bye-bye, dog - and her sister's name. She is delicious!

morningpaper · 25/07/2006 21:25

teacakes do you live in Buckden, Cambs? I used to spend a lot of time in the Towers - I have several friends who live there.

DontlookatmeImshy · 25/07/2006 21:34

After his exciting weekend ds has also discovered stairs, but can't yet climb them although he really tried very hard bless him.

No sign of any proper words yet though.
MP - you little one is doing really well.

nervousmum · 26/07/2006 09:03

Scary prospect, climbing stairs! Joey's quite content with crawling round the front room for now and pulling himself up on furniture. (and unpacking housemove boxes the second our backs are turned)

So much for me being back to work! As some of you know i have a long-standing back problem. Well, it's now affected my right shoulder to the point that it's virtually immobile and v v painful. Went to the GP yesterday and he was horrified i went back to work at all (i've only been back 8 weeks!) and has signed me off sick for a fortnight 'at the earliest' whilst i wait to see the orthopaedic surgeon next Monday. Quite worrying too as the GP reckons the consultant will want to do a 'look-see' op to see what's actually going on Trouble is, if they do that i can't care for Joey on my own which means DP would have to have carer's leave for the duration. Not what we need when we're trying to sort out the wedding and house move etc! Sorry for the long whinge...i'm just feeling a bit sorry for myself and fed up. I had all this 2 years ago with my back and thought i was over it. I'm only 26 FFS! Feel like a 90 year old! Take care, NM x

Elf1981 · 26/07/2006 18:47

Aw, poor you NM.

I have the flu at the moment. Last night my sister had to pick me up and drive me to my mums house with Evie as DH was on a sales conference and I could not physically do anything. I walked out the house in my pajamas!! I still feel rough but at least a little better. I'm slightly worried as I took some Anidin and I'm still b.feeding - no label to say not to but still worried.

mawbroon · 27/07/2006 09:31

NM - that must be an awful worry for you and it must be difficult for you with Joey when you are in such pain. At least you are being taken seriously though and hopefully they can do something for you.

Elf - nightmare with the flu. someone referred me to this site a while ago Apparently it has been compiled by pharmaceutical statisticians and gives reliable advice as to which drugs can be taken whilst breastfeeding. I am currently taking Zirtek for my allergies which says very clearly not to take whilst breastfeeding, but this site says it's ok whilst saying that Piriton (which is what the doc will give me) is not ok as it make the baby sleepy and potentially sleep through feeds. Not such a problem at Johnny's age, but not good for littlies. I wouldn't take any meds just because Tom Dick and Harry's website said so, but this is an NHS site so I am putting myself in their hands. Just think of all the painkillers that you (presumably) took after your c section. (I know I took every pill that was offered!)

teacakes - pmsl laughing at you thinking I'm some sort of supermum. I'm probably in for a huge shock when I take in other kids. Johnny is just no bother at all to look after since I got him in his routine. He sleeps for 3-4 hours a day at set times so that gives me time to get stuff done, and I get a full nights sleep almost every night. I am also very organised. Sounds great, but it is to the point of being anal about it, so the reams and reams of paperwork that the Care Commission want doesn't phase me at all.

MP - wow your dd sounds like she's coming on great. I have real difficulty imagining Johnny doing the next things. eg he's trying to crawl but I just can't picture him actually doing it. I did have a dream last night though that Johnny and I were having quite a detailed conversation about cooking! It was odd to see this little 9 month old baby talking like an adult. At least he wasn't talking like Gordon Ramsay

I think we will head to the swimming pool this morning. It's far too hot here again. Johnny has figured out how to undo the velcro on the wrap on his nappy and finds it highly amusing, so there's no more sitting about in just his nappy for him as cruel mummy is putting a vest over it. I don't know if he can undo the cloth nappy underneath the wrap and I'm not waiting to find out either

Yokefleet · 27/07/2006 21:49

ELF & NM Hope you are both feeling better today.
MB Did Johnny enjoy the pool again? I could do with you to come and organise me! I was doing really well until my sister moved down here a couple of months ago but now there never seem to be enough hours in the day. I watch my neice for 4hrs a day whilst sis is at work but also take her to and from work and do her shopping (dh comes home from work and I never seem to have anything in for tea for us!!)
I have been in the sea for a paddle today on my own whilst my parents took ds out for a walk, it was really strange just walking on my own, felt strange not sure why as I have left Thomas with them plenty of times before! [puzzled emoticon]
Re the stair climbing - get ready as these little ones of ours are ready to be off!!!!!!!!!

Hi all, have been away on holiday to cornwall so not posted for a while. Alice has been making good progress, can now crawl all over the house, but has a particular fascination for the coal on our (elactric) fire and for trying to follow her sister out of the back door. She's not yet managed to fall down the step onto her head but I feel sure it is only a matter of time! Dd1 is not at all impressed that the stairgates are all being shut properly again as for the last year we've just been pushing them to, to keep the dog from going upstairs. Now she keeps saying "Mummy I need a wee-wee and the gate's shut." She's also having all her toys pinched by Alice, who can now crawl to reach them, so I keep having to race into the living room to prevent war breaking out. There are odd moments when they do play nicely together though, which seems to make it all worthwhile.

Right, must go to bed to prepare for a long day of chasing small children round tomorrow.

mawbroon · 28/07/2006 14:15

YF - yes Johnny loved the pool. He looks so cute in his little trunks! The pool attendant was oohing and aahing over him. I know what you mean about feeling strange without the baby. I was at my sisters the other day and I put Johnny down on her bed for his nap. He was perfectly safe there as he doesn't roll or crawl yet. It was a lovely day so we went to sit outside. The flat is on the ground floor and we were sitting right by the open window of the room where Johnny was sleeping (which I could have climbed through in an emergency), but it meant going out the front door and locking it behind us before doing the 5 second walk round the back to the window. It just felt so weird leaving the house and locking the door whilst he was in there alone even though I was actually only sitting about 5 metres from him!

I finally got the Calin Bleu wrap slings that I won on the MN competition a few weeks ago. We have been trying to practice with it and it's more difficult than it looks. There is one tie which I have got the hang of but it means there is a knot right above my boobs and I can feel from the pressure on the boobs that it's a recipe for blocked milk ducts, so that one is out. I think you have to be pretty strong to carry a baby Johnny's size (19lbs). I am used to carrying him in the backpack, but still found it quite difficult. I think I hadn't tied the thing tight enough. Perhaps I'll just keep them for the next baby.

nervousmum · 30/07/2006 20:57

Wow we're a quiet bunch at the moment - i hope that means that everyone is out enjoying the lovely weather with their LO's

Well, despite my bad shoulder, i've managed to strip all the old wall paper then re-paint my entire hall and landing, and i've finally finished off my front room (the bit that got left over this time last year when i got too fat and pregnant!). Joey's also come on in leaps and bounds - he walks now with one of us holding his hands, and he had a first go at the swings in the play park this afternoon, which he really enjoyed He's also properly crawling, everywhere, which means i now have to have eyes in the back of my head! Very cute though! It's nice to see him deliberately reach out to pick a toy up and play with it, rather than just playing with whatever he's given.

Off to see my orthopaedic consultant re my shoulder tomorrow morning. Wish me luck...! Take care All, NM x

Yokefleet · 31/07/2006 09:55

NM Hope that your appointment goes well.
Busy weekend here, wet all day Saturday and lovely yesterday. Today is cooler and very cloudy, I am waiting in for some bunk beds to be delivered for the spare room but Thomas is really grumpy could do with a ride out somewhere but will have to see what time the beds arrive.

mawbroon · 31/07/2006 10:04

Wow NM walking! That's amazing. Johnny is getting there slowly indeed. If I lie him on his tummy on the wooden floor then he can sort of slither backwards, but he doesn't like it and cries the whole time he's on his tum. He will sit for ages playing with his toys but won't try to crawl at all under his own steam, even if something is just out of his reach. I'm thinking that he's got his mothers laziness. I often think "oh I would like such and such but I can't be arsed" so I think he's probably the same. He's quite happy just to sit and look at whatever it is that he can't reach.

Yokefleet · 31/07/2006 13:06

MB Just you wait....one minute they sit there quite happily then they are off!!!!!!!!!! and there is no stopping them

OP posts:
Jockey · 31/07/2006 13:42

I'll second that Yokefleet. They're not happy with crawling for long - then it's cruising furniture and trying to stand unaided. She has gone from sitting there smiling sweetly at everyone and not moving an inch, to being a complete menace! My first LO was taking first steps at 10 months (and I've heard of earlier) - that's SCARY! Not that this one will be that early - please no - it's too much work in the summer holidays! The worst thing is her picking up little bits from the floor and eating them, despite hoovering like never before.

Hope everyone that's been poorly is feeling better soon.

Oh no, fluff in mouth alert! Must go.

Elf1981 · 31/07/2006 19:04

lol at fluff in the mouth - Evie picks up the teeniest bit of dirt from the floor even if I have just hoovered, swept and washed the floor!

For those with babies not on the move count your blessings. Evie was climbing stairs the other day, she crawls everywhere and is constantly standing up and scaring the beJesus out of me.

Yokefleet · 31/07/2006 20:20

Jockey I walked at 10 months which I find very scary as Thomas will be 10 months old this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
elf Are you fully recovered now?

Hello everyone

Just back from hols. Great to get away and Stells is such a country babe she's never been happier than noodling about in the green or when she waded hands and knees into the sea all on her own. Lovely to see her have more space to play around in and to be all three together again. Having had no teeth before the hols she now has FOUR (two top and two bottom) and has another one on the way. Have had a quick squizz of the posts and it's really interesting to see who's been up to what - NM hope you're enjoying your new home (are you actually in yet?) and Mawbroon climbing that mountain sounds incredibly impressive and you've spurred me on to get a carrier too - well we do have the woods near us at least!! Have been wathing house of tiny tearaways and am hooked. Slightly sad the hols are over and being back in the not so friendly london zone but chin up hey. Glad it's cooled down a bit - I found myself wishing for winter of all things when it got to 40 - too much for me. Hope you're all doing well. MMx

mawbroon · 02/08/2006 08:13

Glad to hear that you had a lovely holiday MM. LOL at you describing my walk the other week as a mountain - it was just a wee hill really!

Johnny seems to be making discoveries about himself this week. He is spending a lot of time with his finger stuck in his ear and also up his nose. Lovely eh? I can't believe how much he is eating just now. I have just fed him a slice of melon and a load of porridge with a whole banana chopped into it. This was after a good old glug of breastmilk too. I think he's taking more milk as well because my previously well adjusted boobs are now starting to feel full and leak a bit which suggests an increase in supply. I really shouldn't be surprised by this. He is a growing boy

mozarellamamma · 02/08/2006 10:12

mawbroon - well it sounded like a mountain to me i mean us southerners only know the flats after all.

stells has an upset tum poor luv and in tru doc style one told us not to fee her solids at all and the other said oh just feed as normal. heck. i'm on the middle road and feeding her soft foods like banana. hopefully it'll clear by friday (they said it could last seven days). too much sangria on hols obviously....

what does everyone do each day and week with their babes in the way of activity. At the mo we have one playgroup and one nct meet a week and then we noodle about at home or go to the swings and walks - I wonder if I should be doing more with the gal and knew you guys would provide some inspiration. MM x

Yokefleet · 02/08/2006 13:38

MM Welcome back and I hope yout lo is feeling better.
My day didn't get off to a good start, got a puncture whilst taking my sister to work I got as far as trying to figure out how my jack worked (new car, never been looked at) and a young man who was at the bus stop 100 yards away came to offer his assistance there are still some gentlemen about!!! Must admit though I was too busy concentrating on getting to car sorted to get much info out of this handsome stranger (my sis is newly single and on the look out for a good man!) she complained all the way to work at me for not getting more out of him!!!!!!!!!
p.s have changed wheels on my previous cars no problem so I am sure that I would have figured it out....................eventually

OP posts:
mawbroon · 02/08/2006 14:48

Bad luck with the puncture YF. My Dad insisted on me showing him years ago that I was able to change a wheel. So, yes I can do it, but if someone else was willing to come and do it for me, then I would just let them. The bloke probably went away feeling all heroic after rescuing a damsel in distress Erm, why didn't your sister chat him up if she was with you??

I have a couple of weddings coming up (different crowds so I can wear same outfit ) and was dreading going shopping for something to wear. I found a top today and Johnny was very good sitting in his backpack in the changing room whilst I tried stuff on. The top covers my belly and makes the most of my breastfeeding E cup boobs . All I need now are some accessories. I am so ungirly that this is a tremendous source of stress for me as I have no clue about style, hair or make up. DH is best man and has been measured up for the suits that all the wedding party are wearing. All right for some, eh?!

mawbroon · 02/08/2006 14:49

LOL

"All I need are some accessories" erm, I am not so clueless about style that I just go to the wedding wearing a top and accessories. I will of course be wearing trousers and shoes as well.

Yokefleet · 02/08/2006 16:38

lol mb
She said she was too busy looking after the kids and that as I was chatting to him I should have found out more! ah well next time I know
