I hope they are as good as the last 6!

Well done Johnny on the signing

Thanks for all your input on wedding readings. I'm actually now of a mind not to bother with one (the wedding is going to be very low-key anyway), but i'm sure i'll change my mind again nearer the time!

I think Joey's teething again - he's got a constant river of drool, and is being a little grump monster. Still, DP will have to deal with it tonight, as i'm back to work again! NM x

Jockey · 12/07/2006 13:13

Hi,sorry not posted for ages again. I guess that's what comes of having 4 children.

It is interesting to read your stories. I was working virtually full time with 3 small children and honestly, just felt as though I was on a treadmill. Eventually I became really exhausted and had to rethink the whole situation. Then fell pregnant with no. 4 and had a "get out clause" if you like. I've now taken a 5 year career break, but need to do some temporary work for financial reasons. Luckily, we've worked out we can survive on a lot less.

The things I miss about working are having a lunch hour, the office banter, and the adult company. I have found it hard breaking into the SAHM click at school but it is gradually coming. (I agree about smiling at everyone!)

I am sure over the six weeks of school holidays, when they're driving me mad, I will wish I'd gone back to work immediately. But that's life -pros and cons etc.

Will try and catch up with the rest of the thread now. xx

nervousmum · 13/07/2006 22:09

We're not a chatty lot at the moment Hope everyone's ok?

V exciting news - we've found our new house! It's a new build and won't be finished till November, but it means we can choose all our fixtures and fittings and have everything the way we want. Also, it's perfectly situated, with the sea on one side and a field of sheep on the other, which Joey will love. I just hope it's finished and we're in before the wedding in December!

Joey is being as cute as ever, and he's suddenly got 'very' mobile! Hard work, but fun. Take care all, NM x

Jockey · 14/07/2006 11:54

That sounds lovely nervousmum - what a busy year you're having what with the wedding and everything. After living in London for a while, I'm really getting to appreciate the countryside now, and we can't wait to get to the beach as soon as the holidays start (got a one and a half hour drive though!).

I will have to post on mumsnet more often. The other day, I turned round to see a crawling baby emptying out the video cabinet just in that short time! She had only been doing a commando shuffle up until then. Yes, it is bloomin' hard work now, papers shredded, bags emptied etc. But fun.

It is bliss this morning, she has slept for 2 hours which is most unusual during the day. Guess I'll pay later.

mawbroon · 14/07/2006 21:56

Hearing you lot with your mobile babies really makes me appreciate the time I have left before Johnny gets going! He still sits there quite happy, but he does wiggle his bum and turn round if he wants something. I am prepared though and have childproofed throughout. I spent a whole pound on some stacking cups the other day and he absolutely loves them. He reaches out when they roll away, but isn't that fussed about trying to move to get them. He only complains when they are all out of reach.
We were out at a local country park today and Johnny had a fab time. His wee brain will be whirring away just now while he's asleep thinking about the deer, the birds, the fish etc etc that he saw. He's been waking at 5.30am this week which is a pain. His second top tooth is almost through so hopefully he'll be back to his normal 6.30am waking soon.
Hope everyone is fine.

Elf1981 · 15/07/2006 09:06

Phew, it is quiet!
Evie is constantly on the go - crawling, pulling herself up, standing next to the sofa and trying to pull my dinner plate off my lap...
My mum & dad are home from their hols today, no doubt I wont be able to leave early as they'll be all a fussing over Evie (she's started doing so much in the past three weeks!)
Hope you're all well.
MB your day out sounds lovely! We're on hols next week going to the coast, cant wait for Evie to see the sea!

mawbroon · 15/07/2006 14:33

We went back to the same country park again today Elf, but we were at the other end. It was fantastic. We climbed a 1,000 ft hill and got a brilliant view all round. We had lunch at the top of the hill. I always take a golf brolly and was able to shove it through the leg of the backpack so we had a makeshift sunshade for Johnny. I made lunch that we could all share and then Johnny and I lay under the shade of the brolly feeding. The park gets really really busy on nice days, but hardly anybody bothers to climb the hill - we virtually had the place to ourselves!

mawbroon · 17/07/2006 10:58

I'm just away to take Johnny swimming for the first time. He's had a 2hr nap so should be well rested. I hope he enjoys it It's just too hot to do outdoors stuff, although we went to the swings at 8.30am before it got too hot.

Yokefleet · 17/07/2006 15:55

MB how did Johnny get on??
We have had a lovely weekend, spent yesterday having a picnic under some trees by the sea followed by a paddle in the water. It was the first time Thomas has had a paddle as he has usaully fallen asleep just as we reached the waters edge!! My dad then took him further into the water and he loved it (he will drink anything that lad!! )
It is too hot here to do anything much, just checked the temp and it is 34 degrees in Thomas's room, feel the need for a snooze

OP posts:
mawbroon · 18/07/2006 09:38

He absolutely loved it YF. I felt like a meanie mummy taking him out of the water after 45 mins but we were running late for his lunch etc. He was absolutely shattered after though and passed out in the car on the way home, even though it's only a couple of miles. Then he slept for 2hrs 20mins in the afternoon!
The forecast here is for 31degrees which is unheard of in this part of the country. I think we'll be seeking shade in the garden and maybe puddling about with water and stacking cups.
I have the lady from the Scottish Childminding Association coming this afternoon to help me get things sorted for my business. I have set a date of September 18th and already have my first client so I need to get things sorted pronto.

Yokefleet · 19/07/2006 09:55

MB I'm glad he enjoyed it! How many children are you planning on looking after? (must admit that I find ds and my 3yr old neice a handfull!!)
Took Thomas onto the beach again yesterday and he was crawling into the sea! he loved it and it really helped cool us all down. He was playing with the wet sand and looking at it really closely but didn't attempt to put any into his mouth which suprised me as usaully he tries to eat everything
We have a family "do" back in Yorkshire this weekend so are going back up for a long weekend tomorrow night, not sure how it will go as this is the first time since we did CC with Thomas, his travel cot is much smaller then his cotbed and he is a real wriggler!(sp?)
Hope you are all well and I will catch up on soon.

xxx

Hello ladies.

Do you mind if I (re-)join you. I used to post months and months ago on the ante-natal threads but I've had to have a name change and am sort of starting from scratch.

I'll go and catch up on all yours news now

Yokefleet · 19/07/2006 18:55

Hello DontlookatmeImshy, your very welcome to re-join, (what was your name before, if you don't mind me asking?)

xx
p.s the board has been very quiet for the last few days, I hope its because we are all enjoying the sun????

OP posts:
mawbroon · 20/07/2006 08:20

Hi DontlookatmeImshy and welcome back. Were you a regular poster before? Gosh the ante natal threads seem so long ago!
YF - I am registered for 6 kids (including Johnny) hahahahaha at the thought of six kids. I am going to stick with two plus Johnny at first and see how I get on.
It seems like it's the end of the heatwave here. It's overcast and honestly quite freezing. We are away to the swings and Johnny will need a jumper on. He's been in nothing but his nappy the past few days and I have had to put him in disposables as the terry ones are too hot for him. We are also going to the dentist today. I hope the dentist isn't daft enough to stick his finger in Johnny's mouth.

DontlookatmeImshy · 20/07/2006 15:18

YF-I'd rather not say what my previous name was. I changed it because someone found out who I was in real-life and I just prefer to be anonymous. I am/was a reasonably regular poster. I just didn't want to pretend I was a newbie.

It's been interesting reading all your comments about being SAHM's or going back to work. I've been really lucky so far in that my PN group are all nice and through them I've also got to know loads more people. Sadly most of them (if not all) seem to be going back to work soon and I'll be the only SAHM. I'm loving the idea, couldn't wait to finish work when I was pregnant and have absolutely no desire to go back (Of course it could all change once ds hits 2yrs lol) but it might feel abit wierd when all the activities stop because they're all back at work

Anyway ds is wonderful (not that I'm biased ). He has 2 teeth at the moment and I suspect some more are trying to get through. He is also doing the commando style crawl - I'm a bit relieved to hear other peoples babies crawl like that too. Has anyone else had problems with them getting sore legs though. Ds's are getting very red, he looks like he is sunburnt. He was so cute this morning. He crawled all the way to the door, turned round and looked at me as if to - I'm bored in here mum, I'm going exploring, byeeee - turned back and crawl off through the door.

He's not sleeping through yet but naps and bedtime are getting easier now I'm following the Baby Whisperer. This morning I woke up to see him sitting up in his cot. The first time he's done it in the cot (afaik), and suddenly realised I need to lower the mattress before he starts climbing out!!!

Well, I better stop waffling on now, I need to get the ironing done before he wakes up

nervousmum · 20/07/2006 21:42

Welcome back, DLAMIS

I also went into Joey's room this morning and found him on his knees trying to pull himself up on the cot bars so we've had to lower the mattress (DP thinks i'm being overly cautious, i just didn't want to hear a thud of him falling over the side)

I wish our heatwave was over! It's been in the mid 30's again today and poor Joey has nasty heat rash. I don't like taking him out in this heat, even plastered in the factor 50, so he's not been napping so well during the day though thankfully it doesn't appear to have affected his night-time sleep patterns. Roll on winter!

Put our house on the market today. I can't believe that in the space of a week, we've decided to move, found a house and put an offer in, and now put ours on the market!

Hope everyone's ok, NM x

teacakes · 20/07/2006 22:04

Hello there all,
DD and I have just come back from a week with my folks and it was soooo nice and relaxing to have baby sitters to hand. I managed to escaped to hit the sales for a bit.

I am writing to report that I have at last found the starters of DD's first tooth!!! I noticed it when she was chewing my finger yesterday. It does not seem to bothering her yet so fingers crossed. (Sorry Yokefleet did not manage to arrange to meet up. But I envy you living near the beach it was so relaxing to walk around there.)

I've had to lower the cot too, she is started to get very mobile. It is strange after all these months of sitting quietly and then all this movement, very sweet though.

Also about to resign so I will shortly be SAHM for real...ahhh

mawbroon · 21/07/2006 09:35

I take my hat off to you nervousmum. The thought of moving in the near future gives me the heebie jeebies thinking about the stress of it all.
Well done on the first tooth teacakes
Johnny still isn't crawling yet, but he did manage to move a few inches backwards yesterday! He doesn't like being on his front, so I think he's more likely to learn to get onto his knees from sitting as he's been trying to do that recently resulting in me finding him sitting there folded in half! He was trying to stand up in the bath last night. He can lift himself as far as his bum getting out of the water, but no further yet. He doesn't move about in bed at all. I usually find him lying exactly where I left him the night before.

Yokefleet · 23/07/2006 22:16

DontlookatmeImshy no probs
Teacakes Glad you had a good time! Thomas started going into the sea last week and loves the beach, we haven't been on the beach since Wednesday as we have been up to Yorkshire for a family "do" and a spot of visiting but dh has also got tomorrow off as a holiday so I am sure that the beach will beckon!!
We too lowered the cot matress several weeks ago now as ds can easily climb to standing in there also the bathtimes are getting really hard work as ds stands with ease and keeps going for the plug (even though we always sit him in the bath facing the opposite way!)
Well I had better go and get the car un-packed and get some washing put on (only been away for a long weekend but there are as many dirty clothes as a normal weeks washing )

DontlookatmeImshy · 23/07/2006 22:29

Good luck with the house move NM - you don't hang about do you

Teacakes -congrat on dd's first tooth

What a weekend! Ds has gone absolutely mental with the "firsts".

  1. He pushed himself up from lying down into a sitting position without the aid of props.
  2. He got onto his knees and did 2 steps in a proper crawl.
  3. He pulled himself up into a standing position (using the settee cushion).

Oh yes - and he's another one who's discovered it's more fun to stand up in the bath and pull the (shiny) plug chain.

No wonder he is having extra long naps. He's worn me out too.

Hope everyone else had a good weekend

nervousmum · 24/07/2006 08:46

I like to keep busy

Just about to increase my workload even further and go back to pretty much full-time employment (34.5 hours), which will be back to 3 x 12.5 hour shifts per week! I'd initially resisted it because of Joey, but he doesn't even notice when i'm gone (he loves his time with his Daddy too much), so it makes sense and will give us a bit of extre cash.

Incidentally, packing for a house move is fun when you have a very inquisitive 10 month old taking things out of the box as fast as you're putting them in!!! (Yes, Joey is 10 months old today - where does the time go?!?)

Must be off - Joey's making waking-up noises. Have a good week everyone. NM x

mawbroon · 25/07/2006 08:13

Not a lot to report from the broon household. Johnny is teething just now and he is biting everything, including my nipples. He's not crawling yet, but he can shuffle himself a couple of inches back the way when he's on his tummy. He seems to alternate between physical days where he launches himself forward onto his tummy trying desperately to crawl, and vocal days where he will quite happily sit on the one spot but will yell and babble all day.
I am almost there setting up my childminding business. I have a few more bits of paperwork to sort and then I get my final visit from the Care Commission in a couple of weeks. I have my first client already. OK it's only for one afternoon a week, but I have to start somewhere.

Yokefleet · 25/07/2006 15:27

OMG - Thomas can climb our stairs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Panic stations here am gonna have to sort out the gates!

Back off my hols and sick as a dog. yesterday had a fever of nearly 40 degrees, was vaguely aware of DH plonking Evie on my boob when she wanted feeding.
Hes on a sales conference today & tomorrow so although I'm feeling a little better, I'm not 100% so struggling.
I'll catch up on thread in a bit.

Elf1981 · 25/07/2006 15:27

YF - just seen your post... Evie has too mastered the stairs today!
