I hope they are as good as the last 6!

Has anyone else's wee one started the separation anxiety nonsense yet? Johnny howls when I leave the room and screams when someone else picks him up. Trouble is that it's unpredictable. He can be sitting playing away quite the thing and then it's the end of the world. He woke 1000 times last night and would snuggle in bed with me but then wailed when I put him in his travel cot. (He's been in with us as my sister was visiting). I suppose it's just a phase and I am dealing with it with extra cuddles and feeds when he is sooo upset that nothing else will do but I am pretty tired. My sister is away home today so at least he will be back in his own room and if need be, I can co-sleep with him without DH panicking that he is going to squish Johnny in the night.

nervousmum · 31/05/2006 18:42

Joey's well and truely got the separation anxiety thing too! He's really hard work, and i can't even leave him for a few minutes to go and have a wee! How long does this phase last? I'm going back to work in just over a week and if he's like this, it's going to be a nightmare.

Elf1981 · 31/05/2006 19:22

Evie can get very clingy when I leave the room. Its very sad on one hand as I hate to hear her cry, the other side is yippee as I know she loves me :)

Does anybody elses baby have selective hearing?

mawbroon · 01/06/2006 11:46

What do you mean about the selective hearing Elf? I know my DH has selective hearing and it filters out baby crying very well.

Johnny had another rubbish night last night. I don't think it's hunger or teething but he had to sleep with me all last night from midnight onwards. I read somewhere that with the separation thing around this age, they get very anxious when no-one is there when they wake in the night, so I feel it would be cruel to just leave him crying. DH thinks I'm too soft, but I just can't do it.

Elf1981 · 01/06/2006 12:17

MB - my DH also thinks I am too soft for going to Evie everytime she cries out. I try to explain thats what a mummy does!

Selective hearing - Evie has started to ignore certain people when they are talking to her. The thing is, I think she knows she is doing it. I was calling her name the other day and she had her head turned away from me and would not look at me, but she was grinning away and found it very funny. But the CM mentioned that she has ignored her on the odd ocassion. I'm not sure if it is a game or whether she is having hearing problems?

mawbroon · 01/06/2006 13:26

I haven't noticed anything like that with Johnny on the hearing front but like you say, it could very well be a game that Evie is playing. Johnny's latest is leaning over sideways when he's eating until he is hanging over the side of the highchair. MIL tells me that DH used to do that too! Trouble is that he can't get up again and he is in a prime choking position so I have to go and sort him out every time he does it. I have started the stern voice and making sure I don't laugh when he does stuff like that, but I think he's way too young yet to understand. I do feel that this is a glimpse of what's to come. Only a glimpse mind, the full horrors will be revealed in a few months I'm sure Shock

Elf1981 · 01/06/2006 16:43

DH took Evie to baby clinic today as she isn't very well. She has a viral infection.
Bless her.
Not sure how much she weighs yet, DH didn't tell me that, I'll update later!

nervousmum · 02/06/2006 10:15

so tired - Joey was awake every 3 hours last night! need sleeeeeeeeep.......Grin

mawbroon · 02/06/2006 16:53

NM - that's what Johnny has been doing for the last god knows how long. I am too soft and he has a lovely night snuggling and feeding with mummy til the morning. NO MORE. We are starting controlled crying tonight. I am out gigging again tonight so won't get in until 2am so DH will have to listen to Johnny crying and he'll be fast asleep by the time I get home. Ha ha doubt it, but I can always dream.
My sister put it a nice way. She said I am giving Johnny the gift of learning how to get a good nights sleep. it will break my heart, but I'm going to have to grin and bear it

Elf1981 · 03/06/2006 13:49

How did the controlled crying go?

mawbroon · 03/06/2006 19:08

Well, I missed the worst of the crying last night as I was out until 1.30am, but apparently he did cry quite a few times but never more than 10 minutes in one go so DH didn't have to go in at all. He cried once when I was home, but I managed to go back to sleep, so I don't think he cried for that long. I'm not looking forward to tonight though. I find it so hard when he is crying. I might just have to get earplugs!!
We were at Johnny's cousin's first birthday party this afternnon. We got fantastic weather for it and Johnny behaved pretty well although he did get a bit hot and bothered. I have been at kids parties before pre-Johnny and I must say they are a bit more fun if you have a baby. I remember I used to be bored to tears with people talking about their kids and now I've become the biggest baby bore around!! Blush

Elf1981 · 03/06/2006 21:58

@%$%@@%@@@%%@^@% Evie bit my lip today and it bloody well hurts!!

Good luck with the controlled crying tonight.

Elf :-)

mawbroon · 04/06/2006 10:35

Oooooh ouch Elf. Johnny bit my nipple yesterday for the first time. I was all prepared. I knew what to do. Yes, I thought, if he bites me, then I should pull his head in until his nose is covered and then he will open his mouth to breath. Did I do that??? No, I screamed and tried to pull him off making it worse in the process!! It was my own fault though. He was messing about popping on and off the boob and I should have just stopped feeding him, so I will hopefully learn from my mistake! He's got two bottom teeth now and they are sharp as razors.Shock

The crying was a bit trying last night. He only cried for longer than 10 mins once during the night, but he cried in short bursts about 15 times throughout the night and I had to just lie in bed listening to him. I am hoping that he is a quick learner!! On the plus side, I am having to pump during the night so I am getting a good supply of EBM for in the freezer.

SusiS · 04/06/2006 15:27

hope the cc is going well for you!! never nice, is it.

caitlin is still a star!
eating is going well. sleeping is good as every (fingers crossed i didn't jinx it now!)
and she just loves fingerfood!!! dp gave her some cheese earlier. she bites - well, she's got only 1 cute tooth - so more breaks chunks off and somehow she demolishes all of it!
and she would eat just about anything - no messing about. she picks it up and puts it straight into her mouth :o

and she started clapping yesterday!!! - sooo cute. first i thought it was just her arms flapping around everywhere (like usual) - but later i clapped again at her and she did it again. - big grin on her face :)

and all she wants to do atm is to walk! well, holding on to someones hand of course. but she does steps all on her own Shock

Elf1981 · 06/06/2006 06:25

Aw bless, Evie sat up the other day and toppled backwards right away, dushing her head on the floor.
She's really taken against taking any medicine, we hardly give her any, still on the first bottle of calpol, but we've tried to give her some Tixilix (sp) for her back cough but she's not having it!

mawbroon · 06/06/2006 08:43

Ach poor Evie. She's in the wars just now isn't she!

Johnny slept right through last night. Or at least if he cried, it wasn't for long enough to wake me so I got a full nights sleep.
I haven't put my lenses in this morning because my eye is a bit sore and swollen. Johnny has tried three times already to swipe my glasses and it's only 0830!
We have got fantastic weather this morning, but I am so paranoid about Johnny in the sun, even with factor 50 cream on!!!

nervousmum · 06/06/2006 16:56

Well, i went back to work today. I was out the door at 7.15am and home at 4.15pm, and Joey didn't appear to have missed me at all! I definitely missed him, though (dare i say it..!)it's nice to be back into general society. Give me a few weeks and i bet i won't be saying that!Grin

Still no teeth, but he is back to sleeping through again (yay), and he's back into his food with a vengeance, especially any finger foods he can feed himself (he's particularly liking rice cakes at the mo). Hmm, maybe time to consider having another baby....!

mawbroon · 07/06/2006 09:24

Don't let it get to you Elf. Sounds like you are both doing a great job to me. I really wish they would bin those charts, or at least use them as a tool rather than holding them as the be all and end all of baby weight. As for the fire guard, well that had me LOL.
My SIL had a baby 4 weeks ago and she has passed all her maternity clothes to me (most of which have been passed round the same group of people several times!!) as she said I was the only person she knew who was likely to be pregnant soon. Shock Still no AF here so unlikely.
It's another lovely day here. I am just waiting on the washing finishing so I can hang it out. How sad that the first thing I think of when the sun is shining is that I will get the washing dried outside!
Hoooray! I have managed to get back into some pre pregnancy trousers Grin Just as well I'm not trendy because I would be well out of fashion by now as it's been so long!

mozarellamamma · 07/06/2006 10:28

MichMoo16 · 07/06/2006 12:02

Hello all

Hope you dont mind if I gatecrash your thread, my DS was born 25.10.05 and has cut his first tooth this week - now having the delights of waking in the night, runny nose and vile nappies - oh the joys!

He sits really well on his own, but wont roll over as he doesnt like being on his tummy - he wants to be on his feet all the time - is this good for him - my Mum keeps saying I shouldnt let him do it as his little hips arent developed enough yet?

Mich x

mawbroon · 07/06/2006 19:59

Gosh, new members are like buses! None for ages then two come along at once!

Hi MM16. Welcome. Your DS sounds like mine as far as the won't roll over goes and the nappies and sleepless nights sound familiar too!

Where about are you?

nervousmum · 07/06/2006 20:11

Hi All, including our newest membersSmile

Question - baby walker or not? (as in the one with wheels on the bottom)

I hadn't planned on getting Joey one originally as i'd read somewhere whilst i was pg that they can slow walking development, however, now he's getting to the age of needing one, and i think he could do with having something else to do! He hates being on his tummy but loves being up on his feet, so his door bouncer has always gone down well but is resticted as to where he can go room-wise. If he had a walker, he could be a bit more 'independent'. Advice appreciated please! Ta, NM x (ps. hope everyone's enjoying this lovely weather! We sat on the beach this morning, then spent the afternoon at a friend's house in her garden for her little boys birthday party)

mawbroon · 07/06/2006 20:39

NM. I don't know if I'm stepping in a minefield here Shock, but I think no to a baby walker.

A quick google reveals several articles reporting similar problems to \link{http://www.bliss.org.uk/pagebuild.php?texttype=whatsnew_babywalkers_paper\this}.
I know this site relates to premmies, but the principle is the same for all babies.
Your choice at the end of the day, but we won't be using one despite being given a second hand one.
