I hope they are as good as the last 6!

Ponto - if you look at the weaning threads sort of thing seems to be a common problem/topic at the moment. The general advice seems to be, don't stress, just keep offering them different foods and eventually they'll start eating it again. seems to be that they go through phases.

ponto · 21/05/2006 22:20

Thanks for advice, I've had a look at the weaning threads too and am now feeling more relaxed about things. Having said that, today Alice ate a whole weetabix for breakfast, followed by a few spoonfuls of potato and swede for lunch, all without screaming. Think she must have been spying on my MN posting last night and realised how much it was getting to me!

Or maybe today was just the day for trying new things as while I was changing her nappy she said "mama, mama". Obviously she has no idea what it means and will probably not say it again for months but I had a huge smile on my face :)

Elf1981 · 22/05/2006 13:53

Evie now says da-da and ma-ma.
I think it's really cute!
She also has a special wave of the hand that she does - she will move one hand when she is whinging and stops when I come into the room (DH believe's shes 'asking' for me) and she'll move two hands when she wants picking up! It's soo cute, she moves her hands in little circles!
Crawling - we're getting there, she now gets onto her knees and gets a very determind look on her face!

At what age (roughly) do they sit up by themselves? She'll sit still when we put her down on her bum but does not pull herself into a sitting position.

Ponto - great news re the feeding, one less thing to worry about :)

Hope all of you are well.

mawbroon · 23/05/2006 15:03

Hi everyone. Nice to hear how all these lovely babies are coming along. We are doing fine and Johnny has fully recovered from whatever it was that gave him a fever the other week. Weaning is going brilliantly. He is eating three meals a day, napping for a total of three hours a day and sleeping through all night. Blimey the poor mite must have just been starving before, but I stick by my decision to exclusively bf for 26 weeks. He has put on a pound in the last fortnight and is bursting out of all his clothes! I have to put him into 9-12 month trousers, but admittedly only when he has his big cloth nappy bum. Anyone else's baby not rolling yet? I know he can roll from front to back as he first did it weeks ago, but he doesn't do it much. He still doesn't seem to want to roll from back to front. He does seem to be interested in grabbing the sides of the bath and trying to pull himself up. I presume that he finds it easier because he is supported in the water. Perhaps he's not going to roll at all, but I think it might be something that they look for at the 8 month check and the HV can give me something else to worry about! I am still doing the signing with him, but he hasn't done any of them back to me yet. He does recognise the sign for "up" though and he gets all excited when I do it. I can't wait for him to sign back to me!!
Hope everyone is doing well.

MBSmile

nervousmum · 23/05/2006 20:31

Joey doesn't roll much either. He can do it, but there's just too much else to do, especially as he's now bum-shuffling everywhereGrin. Somehow i don't think he'll be a crawler, but then i wasn't either apparantly!

We're having real food issues with him since we got back from Greece. He ate fine out there, but the last few days i've practically had to force feed him just to get anything in. Quite a Shock as he's been having food for the last 4 months (!) now, so it's not as if it's new to him. DP thinks he's teething - anything hard gets shoved into his mouth, he's drooling through several tops a day again, and he keeps giving it the gormless look, tucking his bottom lip in under his top one and chewing furiously. Hopefully this time we'll actually get a tooth. We've been going through this for what seems like months! Hope everyone is ok, NM x

Piggiesmum · 23/05/2006 23:21

NM - we are having the same with ds, chewing bottom lip, off his food etc. I gave up trying to force feed him since most of it went all over his clothes or the floor. Finally today after about a week of refusing anything but apple/pear he is starting to take other stuff again. At the same time his teeth don't seem to be giving his as much grief, so it does look there's a connection

Elf1981 · 24/05/2006 08:48

mawbroon - Evie rolled twice in one week and then didn't do it again for agggggggggggggggggges, now when ever you put her down on her back, she'll roll onto her front. I was worried about her not sitting up by herself, but I think that they tend to concentrate on one thing at a time (early walker vs early talker) and she's busy concentrating on crawling, so she'll get to the sitting up stage later (I hope!)

Ooh, lots of babies due soon that I know of! I know somebody due in Aug, Sep, Oct & Nov. Also got two weddings to go to soon, my BIL's at the end of July, my sisters in August!

And I have finally booked my Mummy and Baby Photo shoot that my DH got me as a christmas pressie, I'm v excited, it's at the end of July (got two weeks off work, spending one down the coast, the other just chilling, so booked the shoot in the second week). I get two relaxation treatments, a makeover and then a photoshoot for me and Evie! They take over 100 pics, you get a free 10x8 shot, and can buy more. I am going to limit myself! Also going to take Evie for her second lot of Bounty pics around the same time, so will have new professional pics of her and plus one of me and her together, which I am hoping will look half decent!

Piggiesmum · 25/05/2006 15:37

Elf- ds isn't sitting up yet either, but he's getting there. The photo shoot sounds really good. I bet you end up with lots more photos than you initially intend :D

Well ds has definately got a male sense of humour. He is now laughing at his own farts :D

Yokefleet · 26/05/2006 17:15

Hello all, dh is off this week before starting a new job nearer to home next week Grin so I haven't had much chance to catch up on the thread So I hope that you are all ok and little ones progressing nicely.
Thomas is now waking about 3 times a night which is exhausting but hopefully things will improve when his teeth stop bothering him (3rd one just through and don't think 4th will be far behind)

Elf1981 · 26/05/2006 21:54

I am preparing myself for a bad night - Evie has an awfully blocked nose, unable to feed as cant breath and feed at the same time so she gave in and went to sleep. I think she is teething :(

Jockey · 27/05/2006 09:39

Elf I hope your night wasn't too bad. I'm going through something similar - she gets really cross when she can't feed. Most of the time I get her back to sleep but it is exhausting - and still no teeth to show for it. We are both getting really crabby!

Elf1981 · 27/05/2006 15:27

Well, I had three hours sleep last night.
She's full of snot, running a temp, got a toxic bum... but we have just had an hour and half sleep on the sofa together, lovely!

Piggiesmum · 28/05/2006 10:08

Aww how is Evie this morning.

Elf1981 · 29/05/2006 19:13

It's still a bit naff, she's still got a blocked up nose and been a bit grizzly but she has been sleeping a bit better (fingers crossed)!

Hope everybody enjoyed their bank holiday weekend!

SusiS · 29/05/2006 19:32

good to hear evie has 'improved'!! not nice seeing them suffer :( - hope she'll get better really soon!

dd is sitting so well now. i still do put a pillow behind her but i really don't need it anymore!!
eating has improved alot too. well, what am i saying - she's eating like a horse now Shock
dropped all daytime bottles. so she has only morning and night bottle, 3 meals and 2 snacks - and she's loving it :o
(someone asked what cup i use?!?! just the basic tomeetipee one, with the flip up spout and 2 handles) - misplaced that one so i had to give her water from a 'normal' cup. she loved that even more!!! kept turning towards it and trying to get hold of it. and protested once we put it away Shock

besides the sitting nothing else to report! no sign what so ever of moving!!!! she used to roll over (back to front) but after a few times she obviously got bored with it and hasn't done it since. but she does like to stand on her feet. every day we 'train' a bit. she'll hold on to my fingers and does a few steps (very wobly and not always in one direction - but still steps :o) -

got a big bundle of really cute clothes off ebay - that'll get us through the summer :o - well, if there ever will be one that is :(

nervousmum · 29/05/2006 20:48

Glad Evie is doing better. I'm having problmes with Joey at the mo...i totally gave up breastfeeding while we were on holiday (more practical in the heat with bottles, so i could keep an accurate check on his fluid intake), so he's now on Farleys Second, but he's stopped eating! How much formula do you ladies feed your babies? Joey seems to be having a lot (about 24 oz in 24 hours), and i think he's given up with the solid stuff as he's getting too many calories from his milk, as i certainly never had this problem when i breastfed him! Other than that, he's happy and healthy, he's now 8 months old, and is still putting on weight (last weigh-in 22Ibs 2oz), and he's trying to do everything at the moment! He's sitting well, rolling well, trying to talk, still scooching nicely across the floor, trying to pull himself up on furnature..it's a joy to watchSmile. Only fly in the ointment - i go back to work on the 10th June, to 2 night shifts and 1 early a weekSad I'm going to miss being a full-time mummy! Take care, NM x

Elf1981 · 30/05/2006 12:00

Evie has now got an awful cough. She sounds like she is on 40 a day at the moment.

Susi - Evie likes to pull cups to her mouth to 'drink' out of them, we have not tried her with water out of a cup, she tries to pull our cups to her mouth when we've got a drink. We're thinking of trying her with a cup soon, she doesn't like the training cups.

nervousmum - sorry, cant help. Still b.feeding Evie, though she has had a period of not wanting to eat food but her milk hasn't been upped or anything. I think it's because she is not feeling too well, but not sure. She drinks about 15oz milk when at the CM, and has three feeds off me a day, so not sure how much she gets in total. Usually she'll eat a breakfast and a lunch with a youghurt, plus some tea. Though last time I had her weighed (about three weeks ago) she was 16lbs 14oz so the food she is eating doesn't seem to be showing on her skinny bum!

mawbroon · 30/05/2006 12:09

I'm afraid I can't help with your query nervousmum but I'm sure someone will be able to help you.
Elf - sorry to hear that Evie is still not right. It's such a wee shame for them when they are under the weather.
I have just been to the newly re-started breastfeeding support group in the village. I was invited along to help encourage some of the new mums, but I was the only one who turned up. Apparently two of the mums have given up already and the others couldn't make it. I did have a chat with the HV and she said that Johnny was sitting up and reaching out like she would expect a 9 month old baby to do. Hey, he can't roll, but he's a good sitter Grin. I got him weighed and he is now 17lbs exactly and 67 cms long.

Time for his lunch now. He's getting tatties, turnip, carrots and cold meat (which I boiled and pressed myself so I know there aren't silly amounts of salt in it) I haven't spoon fed him anything and he is doing really well with the BLW.

Elf1981 · 30/05/2006 13:06

Ooooh, ooooh, forgot to say - despite my post worrying that Evie wasn't sitting up, she sat up on Saturday!! She doesn't pull herself into a sitting position from her tummy, she lies on her tummy, goes onto her side and pushes herself up. She's done it a couple of times, a bit wobbly at the mo, but I was ringing everybody on Saturday to tell them!

Elf1981 · 30/05/2006 13:08

mb - shame about you being the only one turning up.
I think there is such a low rate of people who b.feed past six weeks, let alone six months. Everytime I go to the HV they pratically get out the gold star as in my area I dont think many do. In fact, I dont know any other mum who has b.fed longer than a month or so.

Though the business of expressing at work is getting to me a bit, but I'm determind to reach my one yr goal of b.feeding, even if it is cutting into my gossiping hour when I have to express Grin

mummylovesus · 30/05/2006 13:23

nm - Cameron was cutting back on his solids and his milk a couple of weeks ago and wakening between 3 and 5 every morning, so this is what I was advised to do - it took about a week and then we were fixed.

1.Go back onto first milk (as the heavier milk was bagging him up so he wasn't taking enough solids for his age and then going to bed he was stuffed so wouldn't take a full bottle (it was a circle).

2.Started giving a 10pm feed again (this lasted fro about 3 nights)

  1. Started giving him 6 tablespoons at lunch and dinner

So to start 7am he would always take 4oz milk and 3/4oz in his cereal and toast

lunch he doesn't have a bottle at this time just 6 Tablespoons solids (carb, protein and veg)

3pm he will only take 2/3oz milk

5pm 6 tablespoons (veg and carb)

6.30 He now takes 7oz at this time but before he would only take a small amount hence the reason for the 10pm bottle - it took me about 3 nights to get him up to 6oz and then I changed his bedtime bottle back to heavier milk so he now takes 7oz at this time and sleeps until 7/7.15am

Sorry if this is just a big rabble but now his daily intake of milk is about 18oz per day with 3 meals and a snack after his 3pm bottle of either fruit/cheese or a yoghurt!

If you want to me to explain this or ask me anything my e-mail is sharon dot gow1 at btinternet dot com.

now I will go back and see how everyone else is getting on!!

mummylovesus · 30/05/2006 13:45

mb that was ashame that no one turned up you would have been great at supporting them especially after all your hard work with Johnny.

Cameron can't be bothered rolling either infact he still hates me putting him on his tummy and he looks like he is trying to swim when I do Grin

He sits wonderfully for ages playing with his toys and can stop himself toppling sometimes.

He loves running around in his baby walker.

When something rolls away from him on the floor when he is sitting he sooooooooo wants to go and get it and stretches as far as he can without actually moving, it's as though he can move all his body but his wee bottom is glued firmly to the spot he is sitting on!!

He is chewing lots of lumpy food now and I think it really makes a difference to all the sounds he is trying so hard to make now - sometimes I feel if I go away and let him play on his own he enjoys shouting and making noises rather than me constantly trying to talk to him and waiting for him to talk back as if he is on the spot.

He loves old Mcdonald had a farm - just as well as I sing it a bout a hundred times a day tring to get him to make some noises Grin

So lady's how am I going to get my wee monster to sart moving, I have tried everything, putting toys in front of him out of reach, crawling around like a mad woman, he has one of those barrels that rolls, an eyore that walks, a catippilar that you push down and it rolls away - he just gets frustrated that he can't get to them, I just feel if he could move he would have so much more fun.

Elf, Evie sounds like Jess I didn't have to try she just wanted to do it, she was up on her knees rocking back and forward at 5 months, crawling at 6 months, pulling herself up at 7 month and walking by 10 months but this boy looks as if he just wants to be up on his feet runnin around but doesn't want to put the work in to get there.

Cameron can't be bothered with traing cups either so I am going to order him a doidy cup to see if he will prefer that.

mawbroon · 30/05/2006 14:57

MLU - I would suggest leaving Cameron to it and he'll move in his own time! That's the approach that I'm taking with Johnny. I am just using a plastic cup with him but was considering a doidy cup. Let me know how you get on.
Elf - I think you are doing a great job with the expressing at work. My next goal is a year too, but I don't know if I would be as dedicated as you if I had to express. I feel sad already at the thought of stopping bf as I enjoy it so much so we will review after he's a year. Johnny has two bottom teeth now and you were right, it doesn't hurt in the slightest, except for if he falls off and tries to grab on by biting. Eeek.

nervousmum · 30/05/2006 20:28

Thanks for the advice MLU, i'll give it a try. He's been much better today, and i deliberately cut his milk down a bit so he was more hungry for solids.

We've got a doidy cup! All Joey does is grab it and tip it upside down (hence the reason no fluids have ever been in it yet!Grin)

ponto · 30/05/2006 21:34

Mummylovesus - Cameron sounds just like Alice - desparate to move forwards but can't quite manage it! She can sit up quite confidently but the last few days keeps trying to lunge forwards and ends up flat on her face! No sign of being able to get up on her knees to crawl.

Mawbroon - Alice doesn't roll over either, I was wondering if it's something to do with wearing big cloth nappies as when I let her have a kick about without one on before her bath she rolls onto her side, which she doesn't really do when dressed. I used to really worry that I was hindering dd1's development by making her wear different nappies form all my friends' babies but she eventually crawled and walked at about the same time that they did. Just being paranoid mummuy as usual I guess! Wink

Am finally making some progress with the solids, I think I had been pureeing things too finely as today Alice ate beef casserole with lumps of potato and carrot, whereas if I give her just pureed carrot she won't have it. So think I will have to throw out my ice cubes of pureed veg and start again!
