A nice new thread for us all - I know someone mentioned it a few days ago Grin

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
goldenoldie · 19/04/2006 12:31

BoB - Sorry you got a hard time at the clinic. How much does Oscar weigh now?

Do babies lose weight when weaning? I though they put it on because they top-up with milk as well as eating the gloopy stuff?

Maybe it will put your mind at rest if you compare his weight with that of the other babies on this thread?

It is hard, and some HV are dragons, but they do have a job to do. I've got a mate who is a HV - I will ask her about the weight loss/weaning thing.

BoB - can you get any help at home? Any family/friends that can come round and help you get sorted?

babyonboard · 19/04/2006 12:32

oh no rodeo! hope she's better soon
lol at the ww3 thing..children are just an endless source of entertainment..right now O is sitting in his chair doing big exaggerated sighs..his new trick! heehee..lifes so hard when you're a baby!

diege..thanks!i'll try giving him some hummous..cottage cheese sounds good too..and maybe sweet potato
no idea why he's droped a feed for a bit of pureed apple..

your extensions are so good!i'd have never guessed..mustgetsome ghds..my mum has fhi's (F*ing Hot Innit)and they are fab.

right off to bromley shoe shopping..woohoo..hopefully i'll resist the lovely high heels and buy something a bit more practical..heehee

babyonboard · 19/04/2006 12:41

goldenoldie -sorry xposts

he is now 17 12..which is quite big for his age...he certainly doesn'tlook it though but he's really long

the h.v at the thursday clinic is much nicer..i might pop in and talk to her about it..

unfortunately we don't have anyone nearby to regularly help out but we have been considering gtting a childminder one day a week so I can go out..

chacha..bet you're happy about him sleeping through the night!
when i make purees i do them in ice trays then pop them out and bag them when they are frozen..then take out a few to defrost every night for the next day

goldenoldie · 19/04/2006 13:31

BoB - that sounds a pretty good weight. How much was he before? how much has he lost?

Mine - weighed today (5 months 1 week) are:

Nat - 18.8
Ezra - 18.2

Anyone else?

Childminder sounds a good idea, but it won't help get the house sorted. What about a cleaner?

JenJam · 19/04/2006 13:38

havemt had finn weighed for FOUR weeks (bad mummy)an going on friday.

he was 15lb 9 oz at 19 weeks and had just fallen below 50th centile line

right off to get sone passport photos of finneaus foggius

Rodeo · 19/04/2006 14:55

Bob, Haven't had J weighed for a fair few weeks, but she was 14lb 5oz at 23 weeks, I'd expect her to be around 15 and a half now. Ds was on the 0.4th centile when he was around this age, just checked his red book and he was 13lb 3oz at 23 weeks. O did look little, or slim rather, yesterday, but maybe it was just compared to all our bruisers! How does his height compare with his weight? Maybe he looks slimmer than he is because he's long?

Diege, just finished the girls letters, have scrapped old ones! Will get them in post today! Scarlett has got some rather unsuitable choking hazards in hers, sorry Blush Just be around when she opens it! Tried to send you an e-mail this morning with a pic of B&J for J&S but it kept returning it, I think it say's you've blocked me through spamblok or something!! I'm not that bad am I? Grin

Busyalexsmummy · 19/04/2006 15:15

Hi Ladies, totallyEnvy at you all meeting up-damm not having a car! As soon as Im qualified I'll be up the motorway to join you all!

Just a quick note as Im really busy, to say Ill be offline for a while,Im not sure how long for, might just be for a few weeks or a few months, so I have made two people moderators of the yahoo group just to oversee it etc for a while, check your inbox to see if your one!

Take care ladies, Ill speak to you all when Im back!!Smile

Ps alfie was 15lb exactly last thursday, not sure how many weeks he is? a week older than chachas Z about 19weeks?Blush

Diege · 19/04/2006 16:35

Afternoon!!! OOh BAM, very mysterious...can you tell us more? Don't envy your 'catch up' on posts if away a few months Shock. I think we shall need a note before we can permit such a leave of absence Grin.
RODEO: lol at your 'spam'!!!You know me and my technical skills, wouldn't know how to block something in my wildest dreams!!! Must be something already programmed in IYSWIM!!! Looking forward to the letters; won't tell girls just yet in case of over excitement/postal delays Grin.
BOB: you don't sound very disorganised to me, what with your icecube routine Smile. Agree with others that milk is v.important at this stage, though some babies just refuse it. Remember my dd1 went right off it, and would onlt take 6ozs a day from 6 months (and that was out of a cup). In the end HV said just rely on dairy products (petit filou yogs are equivalent to 3ozs of milk). I used to be OBSESSED with getting milk down here Grin, and didn't really start relaxing until she was on cow's milk at 12 months.
Mock driving test tommorrow!!!!!DH is getting my spare contact lenses from opticians this afternoon, not that they will improve my performanace Grin.
Speak later!
Diege Smile.

tessasmum · 19/04/2006 17:18

Got a few more pics to put on but will have to do it later - meltdown yesterday (for all 3 of us!) and I don't know where today's gone!

Londoner · 19/04/2006 18:54

HiSmile,

Rodeo, sorry to hear little Jess is poorly Sad, what a clever baby to save it until after the meetSmile. Lol at Bella's singing, that's v. funny! Oh, and it's so comforting to hear I'm not the only one who's living in state of upheaval most of the time BlushGrin.
ChaCha, glad to hear Z is enjoying new milk and you some well deserved restSmile.
BoB, lol at O's exaggerated sighs, so funny! Elizabeth is 24 weeks and only 1 stone and 4 ounces... what's that in pounds [clueless].... tiny I think.... was pretty amazed at how much smaller she was than all the other babies yesterday in fact.... but she looks well..
Diege, lol at Elizabeth looking like a china doll... thank you. Coincidentally a woman outside school this morning jumped and said " Oh, I thought you were holding a doll..." I think she's okay though, and I was v. tiny as a child but then grew to be the biggest out of my sisters and I Grin. Actually I still remember my elder sister's fury the summer I shot past her in heightGrin. Good luck with your mock test tomorrow, everything's crossed for you here! Diege and Rodeo that letter writing sounds so cuuuuute!
Jen, lol at thought of Finn's passport photo, will you sit him on the stool in a booth!
Busy, have fun whatever it is you're off to do!
Tessa, I'm with you on today disappearing! Hope you're all having a nice caaaalm evening after yesterday.

Right, dh out tonight at some launch party. Ah, you know, I'd much rather be at home (sat on pile of washing) than sat around supping free food and drink......Wink. Have made nice chicken casserole which probably kids will look at and go, "blurgh! Can I have some cereal?"Grin.....

beartime · 19/04/2006 19:28

Golden - no men don't worry like that, at least when they do its only about major things like moving house I think! I do the same tho'

Nova - OK then, thanks for the wraps - I tried one out today and it was cool - velcro is a lot easier than poppers, so now I'm trying to figure out what to go for for my large order.

I agree with Diege get the picture of me off too! In fatc all of them! oh, we're in the same one - that's easy then Grin I look awful! I look so glum!

Diege - was that 'screaming baby' you said?? You're not doing too well at advertising our dear Gina Wink

Caleb had his last jab today and didn't even need calpol Shock and didn't complain when injected either!

Londoner - have you tried ashton's teething powder - ever since I started giving it morning and night to Caleb its really helped him.

browniechick · 19/04/2006 19:42

Hi All, must go and look at pictures on yahoo of meetup (am still v Envy, but maybe will make next one - also don't foget if anyone fancies an educational visit to Historic Stratford-upon-Avon.........)
BAM - ooh very mysterious, hope all is ok. You will be missed.
On the weight thing, Thomas was weighed last week (20wks) and was 16lb 12½oz, he puts on about 3/4lb a fortnight (ish).
HAd first settling in at nursery today - it was really good, think he will settle well there. They like to take them all outside as often as possible, cos they like to get lots of fresh air. They also give out lots of cuddles, which is lovely to know, so he will still have lots of loves. Have seen his little coat peg and everything! Ooh my little boy is growing up so fast! Sad

Anyway, will dash off now and look at yahoo pics.

novadandypowder · 19/04/2006 19:52

Jen - I've not had Nat weighed for 7 weeks, so what does that make me! At 20wks she was 18lb 1oz so guessing she must be way over 20lb by now Shock.

BoB - O is still quite young for weaning isn't he? He should still be getting most of his calories from formula/ milk products. I know from 6 months+ they need at least 600mls (22ozs) a day, although I've never had difficulty in getting Nat to take any food (just like her dad - lol). I'm sure the HV and GP are looking after both your interests so try not to take it personally. I got the book that Londoner was talking about and it was very useful, along with a leaflet from my HV about weaning. Also, see if you're in a Surestart area as they run weaning 'parties'.

Chacha - no microwaves necessary, just steam (or boil) some veg/fruit, blend it (or push it through a sieve if you don't have a blender), add a little cooking water if you need to make it runnier, freeze in an ice cube tray, pop them out into a labelled bag, take a few out the night before you need them, re-heat in a pan or put container over some hot water and heat as you would a bottle.

Another good day with Nat today, she slept for one and a half hours in her buggy while I was meeting a friend Grin. She has never slept that long in her buggy Grin Grin. Think my couple of weeks of staying in and getting to know her have paid off.

OP posts:
ChaCha · 19/04/2006 20:02

Busy - I hope everything's okay and keep in touch with us pls. The November ladies wouldn't be the same without you!

Diege - Interesting to learn about the milk content of petit filou pots! Did your DD drink from a cup because she refused bottles? When are we supposed to introduce a cup? Have nooo idea.

DS keeps waking up screaming and 'biting' on his finger. Teething is really getting to him (and me). Have tried the Nelsons Powders, they seem to be giving some sort of relief but not for long. What else can I do? How long does this last? I suppose like everything else it differs from child to child.

Who is my partner in crime then? You better all be nice to me now! Wink he hee!

ChaCha · 19/04/2006 20:05

Just seen your post Nova, shows you how long it takes me to press 'post message'. Thanks for another idiot proof guide Grin

Diege · 19/04/2006 20:30

Hi everyone!! Well, have an explanation for screaming baby of today - there's a tooth on the way Grin (phew, even Gina would let me off Grin). Tried calgel (left over from dd2, or 1??!!), and it really soothed her. Horrible, horrible pain cries, and her little knuckles are red raw Sad. Like RODEO's Jess, we were clever to delay it a day Grin.
CHACHA, about the milk from a cup, this was because my dd1 (who was BF) just wouldn;t take to the bottle, or indeed the taste of formula. When I went back to work, my dept. weren't keen to give me time to express in the day (illegal now), so I changed to formula, but the staff at nursery had no luck, and she didn't take an ounce. In the end, they gave it out of a cup, but actually had to use a teaspoon Shock. IN the end, the HV suggested dairy products instead, cottage cheese, cheesy veggies, rice pudding, yogurts etc, so scraped about 12 ounces a day. She's still not a milk person, but now nearly 5 so a whole new ball game!!
LOL BEAR at our picture fiasco!!!THought you looked nice on yours actually Smile. My DH said 'let's have a look at those photos then!' when he came in, and proceeded to laugh his head off at the ones of me, saying, 'look at the state of you..they're not your most flattering...look at that double chin Shock Angry. And went back for second look at the one of RODEO, hmmmmEnvy Grin.
Well, feeling pretty happy tonight as think I have arranged a child minder for dd1 rather than 'link club' which she has been attending before/after school. It's a woman who used to look after Jasmine when she was at nursery, and is WONDERFUL with children. J has been getting so tired at the club, and a little overwhelmed at the older children, so fingers crossed, this will suit her much better, as it would just be her and the lady's 3 year old dd Smile.
BROWNIE: ahhh, a little peg; doesn't your heart melt when you think of them all grown up Smile. Glad it went well for you; we have second visit this FRiday. Feeling very anxious about going back to work, but then I guess it would be odd if I didn't!! What day are you back? Will be good to compare notes Smile.
NOVA: (DH's comment, is that the one with the pole Grin Envy)sounds like another good day for you, hopefully the start of a new 'stage' Smile. Makes things so much better when you can get out of the house with at least a degree of confidence that they will 'behave'!!
LONDONER: lol at your kids and their cereal Grin; I'd eat your chicken casserole Smile. My dds loved the picture of Elizabeth, but strangely thought that she, (and Natalie) were Libby Grin.
Well, time to get my cuppo ready and settle back for Apprentice at 9 Smile. Forgot to do the bottles last night when I got in, so major shock this morning Grin. Right, going to pour them now.
Diege Smile

browniechick · 19/04/2006 20:56

Thanks Diege, I know they grow so fast! (and this is my first, and still I'm saying it and sounding like an old hand!!!) We too have our second visit on Friday, at this one I drop him off and leave him for about an hour and a half. Think he'll be fine.
I go back to work next Tuesday (25th) your back on the 28th aren't you? That's next Friday isn't it? We will definitely have to compare notes!
Well, have looked at photos on yahoo - you all look so glam and calm!!! Not sure I would be, and I wouldn't have had as far to travel as you more northernly people!
ChaCha - what do you mean partner in crime? Have I missed something?! We are slow teething. And when I say slow, I mean REALLY slow - it has been nearly 2 months now, and although I can see them under the gum, they are not poking through yet, think we are now trying to get some of the other ones to the same point, the teething toys (and anything else he can get his hadns on) are being shoved right in there, and towards the back as well, he is really chowing down on everything and anything!

Off to watch Murder City now, haven't been watching the apprentice.

GarfieldsGirl · 19/04/2006 21:02

Hi everyone Smile. Sounds like you all had a good time at the meet-up, and enjoyed seeing all the mummies and babies. Sorry you didn't have such a good day BoB. You always sound so happy when you post on here.

Diege - good luck with re your work meet next week, lol at radiators covered in drying knickers! Grin Good luck too foryour mock test tomorrow.

Tex - Power Rangers...It hasto be Power Rangers SPD here!!!

Brownie - good to hear you liked the nursery Thomas is going to, sounds like you made a good chice.

Nova - you sound soooooo organised. I try but it never quite works.

A bit manic here at the mo. Got the plumber here getting our heating put in. Its now i realise just how tiny this house is, as there's nowhere to move everything to, and we've had to dismantle Owens bed as it only just fits in his room anyway.

Seans reaching out for everything now, and is having a very good go at crawling. He's been doing lots of rolling around today too. He usually just does one and leaves it at that, but he's definately got the hang of it today. He's also found his tongue in the past few days, you'll often see him sat there with tongue poking out!
I'm feeking quite pleased with myself too. I've been making Sean proper food. he's had papaya (which got sprayed out onto the side of my blender and I had to scrape it out without cutting my hand to shred Blush) which he wasn't too sure about to start with but he definately liked that. I've also found he likes mash (thanks Rodeo/Nova), banana, apple (didn't realise it had to be cooked until I read my AK book Blush), carrot and loooves rusk. Very messy, but will help his teeth. Going to try Sweet potato tomorrow, do you have to peel it? Sorry, completely clueless Blush Blush. Bad mummy. I've been to Tesco tho and got myself one of their hand blenders for only a fiver (and lots of reduced easter eggs!)

GarfieldsGirl · 19/04/2006 21:06

Oh PS, can I have a look at the yahoo group piccies please? Is there a link or something?

ChaCha · 19/04/2006 21:28

Thanks Diege, Hi GG,!

Have just phoned NHS as LO's temp was 38.7, thankfully now under the 38mark. He is sporting bright red cheeks and is trying really hard to be happy but he's in obvious pain. Will see what NHS say when they eventually call back.
Have some paracetemol suspension to hand, wondering if that's ok to use along with the powders.

Right, DH has not tied babygro arms round his waist in an attempt to cool DS off. He now looks like builder in summer .... talk tomorrow x

JenJam · 19/04/2006 22:05

oh the poor teething babies. Cha Cha I have to say i'm not looking forward to having to deal with this bit myself. and i've got toothache myself right now.

How long does the teething go on for, does anyone know the average? I have a sneaky suspicion it might go on until 18 months. sorry to be the voice of doom and gloom over here. chacha re treatment I have a mum mate locally who has an 8 month old ...she gives both paracetemol suspension + nurofen. i thougth the teething powders are 'herbal' therefore okay to mix with paracetoml? all hearsay i'm afraid...

diege i recognised myself in knickers on radiator scenario. except add to it the fact that some of mine are size 16s.. from an M&S 'budget' multipack. I was only going to wear them after the birth instead of paper knickers but they are sooo comfy. This IS the start of the end, isn't it??

don't think i'd ever live down my slingshot nursing bras either - these really shocked me the first time someone offered one to me to try on, and breast pads.

Hope babies are happier soon, rodeo, diege, chacha

exciting DEVELOPMENT at least for me...I know i'm dragging behind I gave F some baby rice tongiht which he spat out ...can't blame him really it has the texture of wallpaper glue (I know you warned me, but I had to try it for myself). he liked holding the spoon and trying to put it in his ear and playing with the bottle lid 'bowl'

Garfields - think busy has to invite you to see the photos - but she might be too busy (hahehe) who has been made website monitor???? please stand up please stand up!!

diege and bear - do you really want me to remove the photo of you....or are you just joking?. i think you look both look lovely - if you really dislike you are very welcome to go on and delete it! vanity eh

novadandypowder · 19/04/2006 22:12

GG - sweet potato: peel and dice, steam/boil, push through sieve. Do not blend sweet pot/ regular pot as it turns to wallpaper paste due to something in it which I'm sure someone can remind of.

Melon is also a good one for first purees, esp. if you have troubles getting enough water into them, and it freezes well.

BAM usually has to send and invite to the yahoo group, but I guess Chacha may be able to if she's a moderator?

OP posts:
Karmamother · 19/04/2006 22:38

Evening all.

Very Envy of the fab time you all had at the meet. Just been chatting to Beksmum & she filled me in on all the goss!

BoB, sorry you had a rough time. I can imagine schlepping all that way to find everyone going home must have been awful. I'm sure Oscar's weight is ok but I would echo that at this stage a meal shouldn't be replacing a milk feed. Sorry if you've already heard that half a dozen times. I've just started weaning too & I think sweet potato is generally well appreciated as it is fairly bland. The hummous sounds like a good idea.

Beartime, I would give you my copy if I had it to hand. Unfortunately it's hidden in the loft. From what I can remember, it wasn't terribly useful, though. Also, about being bulied at school... I was too & it does affect you for many years. You sound like a wonderful person who has much to offer, unlike the kids that bullied you. I used to find it hard in new social gatherings & used to stare in awe at people who could chat with ease & confidence. I think working as a nurse helped me with this & also as you get older you gain more life experience which naturally makes you a more interesting person, IYSWIM.

Chacha, do you think Z is teething? Hope he settles down soon. I've also been wondering what happened to Kristina. We were the three musketeers of the thread!

Jenjam, had pangs of longing to eat a bit of cake today so made DS & I the most sickliest choc pudding ever. It was one of those that ends up with a sauce under the sponge. Prob not as nice as yours, though! BTW what does RNBA mean? I'm sure its bleeding obvious but can't work it out? Blush

Right, DP in hospital, had his nose op today & comes home tomorrow. Will enjoy my lovely sleep without the snorer. Thanks to all of you who enquired about things here. Had a shitty week so fa. It can only get better.

Off to look at your pics on yahoo. Bye for now.

beartime · 19/04/2006 22:43

Jen - would LOVE you to take my photos off, esp. because there are some other photos of me on my album that are far more flattering Grin - but of course I am not the only one on there and we do need some pics of Diege... I just realised why I looked so awful - its because baby was in the pram behind so I was subconsciously worrying about him. If he'd been in my lap I'd have been happy!

Karmamother · 19/04/2006 22:55

Oh God, just polished the last of the chocolate pud off. Don't know how it happened. I remember walking to the fridge & the next thing I know I've forced the last spoonful in.

Feel sick.Sad
