Have posted on fb, but just wanted to say the dress is gorgeous and she looks lovely in it.

Just wanted to ask if any of you took DC to Drs with a bunged up nose/cold? DD has had this bunged up nose since last sunday. Daytime on the whole you can barely tell she has a bunged up nose but early hours of morning she is terrible, last night it got so bad she was technically asleep but so unsettled and it sounded like she couldn't really cry out properly.I eventually had her on me as a chest frog and she slept so peacefully. She's still feeding well no other signs of illness and is currently calm in her pram.

PetWoman · 04/11/2012 14:45

Hmm, is everyone except me part of the fb group?

jaggythistle · 04/11/2012 15:05

I'm not on it pet. I've a strict RL only on Facebook rule and i haven't cracked... yet. :)

DreamingOfPeace · 04/11/2012 18:20

cakes, I haven't because what can they do?! She doesn't need antibiotics, you'll get better cold advice here :)

Back from a trip to the dales- it was Baltic, -1 degrees!! Went to a waterfall, so I did a tandem carry with the boys with ny boba and a dreaded baby bjorn, only about a mile but it was so hard, I need a better sling. A twin mum at our new group tandem carries all the time, but she's an expert with a wrap and I'm rubbish. I must learn though, and get a woven... One wrap and a boba maybe?! Or try ninjas hip carries I guess. But then I need 2 new slings not one wrap Confused

DreamingOfPeace · 04/11/2012 18:23

Oh, and I hate to say it cakes, but my boys have had many, many weeks of their lives as you describe, where they can't breathe lying flat. We do pillow under mattress still there as they're used to it now karvol plug in, some use saline, and nasal aspirators. Good luck for tonight, I hope she's better soon!

scarletfingernail · 04/11/2012 18:40

If I were sure it was only a cold cakes I wouldn't bother going. If she seems well and has no other symptoms or fever they wouldn't do anything. It's horrible when they're all bunged up and I know how worrying it can be when you hear them struggling breathing. Dream has the best suggestions. Propping up the head of the cot, carvol plug ins work well. I think the HV advised me to bring DS into the bathroom with me while I showered with the bathroom door closed to let the steam try and clear his nose a bit. The only other thing I can think of it one of those nasal aspirator thingies which your can get from Boots. You suck on it while the other end goes up their nose. It sounds grim but there's a filter in the middle which stops you swallowing the snot. We had one for our PFB DS but not bothered this time!

So I just did my good deed for the year day and went to give blood. They're on the ball as you're not allowed until 6 months after birth and they called me in within a week of DD turning 6 months!

Sorry to hear of the firework disasters. We took DS last weekend to an organised one for the first time and he loved it! He definitely wouldn't have done last year though, so maybe your DS would have been ok this time Biscuits? I really fancy the Chatsworth one but will wait until both DC are old enough. DD stayed home with my mum this time.

Still no poo from DD. However she has taken to eating a bit more food the last couple of days and swallowed banana, carrot and potato. I was going to get her weighed tomorrow but as there's a week old poo in there it might be best to wait until she's done it!

Biscuitsandtea · 04/11/2012 18:57

Well done you for giving blood Scarlet - I must get it sorted out but I'm not sure where to go round here as I haven't actually ever given blood since we moved having spent most of the time pregnant or with a baby!

Ds1 still assures me he doesn't like fireworks Hmm. I think we'll wait until next year or the year after when ds2 can enjoy it (fingers crossed he's not such a scaredy cat!)

OP posts:
scarletfingernail · 04/11/2012 19:15

Give the blood service a call Biscuits or you can find out online. The one I go to is at my local primary school on a Sunday once every 3 months. I have to have an appointment as it's so busy. I've seen them refuse people who have just turned up!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 04/11/2012 21:36

Halloooooooooooo! The naming day is done! Woohoo!

It was a wonderful day and I'm so glad we did it. I'm sooooooo happy to be able to just curl up and try to catch up on the thread for the first time in a week as well!!

I'll be posting pics on FB tomorrow, mostly of my huge cake and gorgeous daughter! Everybody loved the cake! Or at least pretended to when they saw the slightly crazy manic edge to my smile!

What's going on in NoBrookerVille?

pommedechocolat · 04/11/2012 21:58

Well donevscream looking forward to pics!

Now that heating is on my top cold tip is a soaked flannel with olbas oil dripped on it on the radiator.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 05/11/2012 05:34

Bah! Can't sleep! Combo of teething baby and still being a bit wired from the hectic day!

I've only really read back this weekend properly. Hurray for S's improvement Dream! V exciting! Fingers crossed for all trampolining to cease and for B to follow his bro's excellent example! I can easily imagine the trampolining btw, DD likes to hang onto the side of the cot and repeatedly bend her knees in a bouncy kind of motion. I'm fairly sure it won't be long before she's actually jumping. She did a bit of a cruise around her cot for the first time tonight at 2am when I would really have rather been sleeping. She pulled herself to standing using the side of the cot nearest to me, then took several wobbly steps, hanging on tight to the edge of the cot, and managed to work her way round to the opposite corner! It's the first time she's walked without someone holding her hands! Grin

Loving the fireworks chat! I can just picture all the various mini No Brooker reactions! DD loved the bonfire we had at home last night, and she liked the fountains / other low-level and reasonably quiet fireworks. However when the screechy fireworks soared overhead, she didn't understand that she needed to look up, and the loud bangs terrified her. Once we went inside and watched from upstairs behind triple glazing she loved it though Grin

Ninja how did the exchange go?!?! You poor thing on Friday! I hope everything went well in the end!

Pet did you tell us about your hol? I may have missed it? I hope you had a fab time!!

Cakes sorry to hear about the cold Sad I have nothing to add to all the advice already given, but I'm sending hugs and sympathy your way! Fingers crossed it'll pass asap!

Biscuits if you manage to sneak DS2 into the Dream house tonight does that mean there's a 5am slot free at your house?! Happy to arrange a speedy delivery of one teething monster if you're worried about wasting the slot? Grin

Scarlet love the FB pic of DD!

Apologies to everyone I'm sure I've missed out. Slightly loopy from lack of sleep over here...

Biscuitsandtea · 05/11/2012 06:49

Cakes hope dd is better soon. ds2 had a cold for about 3 of the first 6 weeks and we had to do things like raising the end of the crib, using the aspirator, and inevitably letting him sleep chest frog style on us so we took it in turns to sit up with him.

Scream hope you got some sleep in the end and get a lovely lie in to recover from yesterday. Poor A teething Sad hope it doesn't last for long for her. But WOW to her cruising round her cot! That is amazing! I guess you're expecting her to be an early walker but wow all the same! I can't wait to see the pics of yesterday - it all sounds like a fab day Smile

Certainly no signs of ds2 standing up or anything like that. To be honest though I'm rather enjoying him being able to sit without being able to crawl Smile. He gets v frustrated if you lie him down as he'll roll on to his front and then try to crawl, inevitably go backwards and get jolly cross about the whole thing. That's made it quite hard when you need to put him down for something. So it's rather a treat now that he can sit pretty reliably that I can sit him, for example facing the shower in or bedroom, plonk a toy in front if him, make sure he won't clonk his head on anything should he nose dive and he'll sit there for 10 mins or so quite happily while I have a shower Smile. This stage lasted about 1 week with ds1 before he figured out commando crawling so we will see how long it lasts for ds2

We had a really productive day yesterday. Took the boys swimming in the morning and then did a load of tidying and organising in the afternoon. Built a new bookcase for toys / kids books so that I have more space for cookery books and had a jolly good sort out. Got a load of toys down from the lift and sorted out what ds2 can have now / in the future / what could go to the charity shop etc. also sorted out some stuff to eBay and put the baby play mats away. We dismantled the trampoline for the winter and just generally had a Productive Day. So productive that we actually went to bed at about 1am - and that is unheard of in the biscuit household. DS2 managed to sleep until 6ish which was an improvement on the weekend. Although the little monkey looks wide awake now even though I've just finished feeding him..... In wondering if he is teething again as he keeps biting my finger and seems to like it if I press on his gum just to the left if his bottom two teeth. He also seems snotty without having an obviously cold iyswim and his bottom sometimes looks sore as they do with teething Confused Can't see a tooth though.

Right, I think he's done a poo now - better crack on with changing that then......

OP posts:
DreamingOfPeace · 05/11/2012 08:25

Wow biscuits, I'm impressed. That is really, really Productive. But what do you do with the ds's? I may be being thick, but mine will only lie there briefly, maybe 10 min, 15 max. Plus DD needs near constant supervision with them, as she loves 'baby rolling' and trying to get them on their tummies like mummy unsuccessfully does . They're not so keen on dds baby rolling... Or she gives them seriously inappropriate things, like coins from her till...

Oh, last night was rubbish, but once I got dh to return a baby to his cot. I gave him B. He said he thought he had S, so went to S's cot, thought the rolled up blanket was right in the way, gave it a shove over....and realised he'd just shoved S and was in fact holding B Grin . Peril of always having rolled blankets knocking around to wedge babies with!!!

Biscuitsandtea · 05/11/2012 08:59

Ah well we did a lot of it in the evening (hence the 1:30am bedtime) and luckily ds2 decided to have a great big nap from about 2pm when we started tidying until we woke him up for tea at about 5:30 and we had already decided that if he napped then we could plonk ds1 in front of a DVD for an afternoon, which we duly did. And then ds1 helped DH to build the shelves. And also my parents turned up so that kept ds1 out of trouble a bit. Don't forget though ds1 is twice as old as your dd so I can leave him (as long as he's in ear shot) with ds2 - he hasn't tried anything too daft as yet Grin. In fact, arguably he's a safer bet for ds2 as he hasn't managed to let him roll off a change unit yet..... Hmm

OP posts:
Biscuitsandtea · 05/11/2012 09:00

And bless your DH with the s/b confusion! I imagine that is all too easily done!

OP posts:
DreamingOfPeace · 05/11/2012 09:56

Ah ha, that makes more sense biscuits . I'm struggling to even cook a meal, let alone sort anything out Confused

As mine are so rubbish and only s can roll off his tummy (but not back onto it) they can't fall off change tables yet, but pulling them out of their highchairs I've knocked their heads together twice in the last week, and once just picking them up from my bed and carrying them downstairs . They still lie on their backs like puddings.

Your A is amazing scream, she's so early with her motor skills (as is scarlets DD) . I've forgotten how old she is exactly, but 6 months I'm guessing?!

NinjaChipmunk · 05/11/2012 09:58

right, lets see if i can remember what i was going to say
For those of you whose littlies got scared of the fireworks we found kiddie ear defenders work really well for ds. The one we go to has awesomely loud fireworks and also they put banger type things into the mahoosive bonfire. He was just sat on dp's shoulders last year going 'its soooo beautifulllllll' He really hated the baging when he tried to take the defenders off and much preferred to wear them, I think they kept his ears warm too Grin
cakes I can only second the karvol and propping up when they've got a cold. Is she old enough for calpol yet? You could give a little before bedtime to help clear the nose/ stop any slight temp?
scream glad to hear the naming day went well, will have to check out fb for your pics. And Shock at A cruising already, how old is she now? You did say you thought she might be an early walker....no rest for you once she's on the move.
dream I'm afraid your comment about not knowing which twin you were cuddling in the dark did make me snigger. With regards to food, I'm sure its massively frustrating but maybe stick with what you know they eat and introduce one new/ previously unliked food a week? don't they say it takes something like 15 times of trying something before they like it/ get used to it? I could be talking out of my arse here (and I also have a vegetable selective ds, he's not so good at big bits with dinner unless its carrots or cucumber but if its chopped up in a sauce he'll wolf all sorts down, he also another spinach lover but it has to be with pesto and pasta)
biscuits your lunch sounded lovely and that sounds like a seriously productive day.
pet welcome back, i actually really like co sleeping but I find dp gets in the way Grin I do think there is a difference with holiday sleeping and home sleeping. There's all sorts of different noises etc for them to get used to...
scarlet well done on giving blood, they do sound very on the ball where you are though, especially if they are so busy they have to turn people away!

So Driday finished and still no exchange on the house. Bloody mortgage company won't allow the allowance to do the works so we need to work out another way. Another week of negotiations I fear. It better be sorted by the end of this week. Anyway at least ds is back at school so only me and dd in the house which makes it much easier to do stuff.
Had a lovely day yesterday. Went down to Brighton to see a lifelong friend who has recently split up with her bf, plus we also met us with a family friend who has been friends with my folks since the 60's who hadn't met dd yet, plus a couple of other people. Our family friend is so lovely, she writes kids books and goes round schools and libraries doing dressing up stuff for the kids based on her characters. DS loves one set of her books especially and was dressing up and running round like a mad thing. It was so nice to catch up with everyone over a lovely roast in the the pub. Right, i'd better have a shower and then call the solicitor. Again. Have a lovely day all, will try to pop on during the day when I'm trying to avoid the housework.....

cakes82 · 05/11/2012 22:10

We took DD to docs mainly cause last 2 nights have been terrible and she sounded so bad. Dr was lovely gave her clean bill of health apart from the cold. Ok'd use of olbas oil as long as not on her skin and prescribed saline drops to be used before feeds. Since we started using drops aside from how do you get drops to actually go in the nose with a fidgety baby she has turned into super velcro baby as if she hasn't been fed for ages. Guessing this is 4wk ish growth spurt. Hopefully she will sleep a nice deep, peaceful, health restoring sleep from now on.

Hope you got things sorted Ninja

Look forward to seeing the naming ceremony pics scream

jaggythistle · 05/11/2012 22:31

hi all.

I've just read about 15 posts but I'm not sure how much sunk in. Hmm

scream glad the naming day went well. :)

biscuits, v impressed with the productiveness!

i had a satisfying tidy of my bookshelves today. they are jam packed and have books stacked horizontally on top of my nice alphabetical ones. the cook book area is especially full, wish i had somewhere to display even the nicest ones.

we seem to be moving a bit easier in the DS2 Poo department, think we might stick to two meals a day for a wee while. he still only seems to like toast, rice cakes and rubbish baby biscuits, pasta, yoghurt and sucking apples when i eat them. totally Hmm about spoons unless they have yoghurt on. will eat a bit of DH's lentil curry when DS1 has it. porridge and baby cereal are apparently the devil's work.

I'm not sure how i feel about work tbh. nervous about getting up and out of the house on time and getting organised with expressing at work again.

also worried my brain will fail at thinking...

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 05/11/2012 23:40

Finally put some pics up on FB! I'm still pretty obsessive about the cake (even though there's almost none left!) so I might put a pic on MN as well! [can't let it go emoticon]

Biscuits that is an impressively productive day! I'm not sure I could have managed all that pre-DD let alone now!

Dream what exactly is "baby-rolling"?! Sounds entertaining Grin Also, I missed the deleted post on FB! What happened with your DSis?

Cakes I hope your DD sleeps better tonight, poor little thing.

Ninja boo to the lack of exchange :( Sounds like you had a lovely weekend though. I hope the mortgage company pull their finger out first thing tomorrow, so the exchange can go through asap!

I spent far too long a little while this morning trying to capture DD's cruising on camera, but she mostly just pulls herself up to standing and bounces around grinning at me until I put the camera down! I've caught a couple of steps but really want to get a proper full-length cruise recorded! We're out all day tomorrow but I'll be trying again on Wed!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 05/11/2012 23:51

Uploaded a couple of pics to MN Blush [obsessive emoticon]

jaggythistle · 06/11/2012 04:40

oh come on.

i was wondering why DS2 had suddenly woken up and started wriggling like mad on my knee where we'd fallen asleep feeding as usual We appear to have a 4.35am poo, which took so much effort that he's passed out on my shoulder.

this is going to be fun...

jaggythistle · 06/11/2012 05:10

luckily taking him out of his sleeping bag woke him up. i woke DH to hold him while i got ready, this was also lucky as he was there to clean the carpet when DS2 did a huge wee when i opened his nappy

nooooooo!

he's done it again! as soon as he was dressed and back in the grobag he wriggled like mad again.

jaggythistle · 06/11/2012 05:25

and it leaked right through to the sleeping bag.

please go to sleep now baby...no more poo.

jaggythistle · 06/11/2012 06:00

me again!

I'm going to have to start going to bed so early.

DS2 is now back in his cot, but if this was a work day I'd be up and getting ready by now. he still takes a while to settle in the evening. maybe if i co sleep at bedtime, then put him in his cot after his first wake up... hmm.
