eek scream, glad you caught the pushchair ok!

having a nice chilled out afternoon. DS1's poor wee friend was sick today so we're not going round to play with him. DS1 ran about mental at toddlers, so is having a nap. I've sat and had my lunch and read my kindle with DS2 feeding/sleeping/feeding/sleeping for quite a while.

i have so much stuff i should be doing though.

3-6 months at 6 weeks loopy - wow! and yay for getting the house back to yourselves. Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 19/10/2012 15:13

Crikey Scream! Well done you for catching the buggy! How scary!

Yay for the out in laws being gone Loopy - hope you can enjoy your choice of puddings in a warm and fag-free house Smile

Your afternoon sounds idyllic Jaggy. I am avoiding my jobs - essentially they have to be done before tomorrow so the later I leave them the bigger proportion DH will help me with. That's totally fair right? To be fair I've done most of it this week - all that remains is the bathrooms and the downstairs floors to be mopped and swept. Well, not in that order. Probably swept and mopped would work better Grin

Ninja Shock and :( about all that work needing to be done. But well done you for lining up some other houses to look at just in case.

Scream well done for catching the pushchair! Why did it tip? I hope you had that pizza - you deserve it, lady!

Musical I would be worried that DS would bite the balloon - did Iz play nicely with it?

Biscuits sounds like a very busy weekend. Hope the Christening is a lovely occasion.

Fluff having to visit the health visitor is rubbish! Why can't they come to you?

Jaggy yay for the kindle time!

DS perked up so I took him into work after all. It was great to see people and he was good as gold, but I feel a bit odd about going back to work now. It won't be for ages, but it reminded me of all the rubbish side to the job which I hate. Being on mat leave is fab. Grin

DS slept all the way home. I'm now sitting in the car waiting for him to wake up. He needs a good nap but I can't sit here forever...

hawthers · 19/10/2012 16:30

fluff are there any concerns about her weight? It's not compulsory to go to the Hv when they command suggest. You could leave it if you think she is doing ok.

I took the totally extreme option of buying my own baby scales as we had weight issues but couldn't face dragging both ds' to the baby weigh in hell hole. So I've never been to the clinic with f and no one has called me to see where we are.

TooImmatureGhostiesAndGhoulies · 19/10/2012 21:37

Hello all!

Haven't read the last 6 pages or so because have been at PIL and they've just moved house and their broadband only got connected today Shock. We are now staying in a hotel for FIL's 60th, and the baby monitor doesn't stretch to the bar Hmm so I am now sitting in the room with sleeping M. Slight rant: who books a hotel room for their son/DIL/granddaughter, aged 7 months, and doesn't check if the hotel has a babysitting service? Grr. DH has just come back up 'to check on me' (actually to get online on his phone for the first time all week) and we're now arguing about who gets to hide out up here and who has to go and be sociable. (I know that's v inconsistent! I can be cross that it is necessary for one of us to stay up here and want to be the one who stays, all at the same time.)

Right, off to catch up.

pommedechocolat · 19/10/2012 21:44

Crawling here! Crawled butt naked over to the naughty corner where her sister was wailing post bath this pm.

TooImmatureGhostiesAndGhoulies · 19/10/2012 21:49

You lot do extra types of washing to get stains out of baby clothes? Shock Pre-soaking and two types of detergent? In the Too household, if the stain doesn't come out after a normal 40 degree non-bio wash, the item of clothing is retired into a in-the-house-only piece. Banana is the worst because it stains brown.

TooImmatureGhostiesAndGhoulies · 19/10/2012 22:18

Fluffy and Munx, god, the early marathon feeds! It will pass. M slept a lot more once she was about 8 weeks old, if you can hold out that long. Grin And yy to being so bored. I used to start twitching because I just couldn't sit still any longer - thus disturbing M.

Poor little scarred babies! But I'm scarred and my sister is scarred and my cousin is scarred - I sliced open the side of my nostril on a whisky barrel aged 5; my sister tripped over a rug and hit her forehead on the rocking chair aged 4 and had 3 stitches; my cousin fell off a bike with no brakes (ours Blush) aged 5 and cut his chin open, needing quite a few stitches - and we all forgave our parents. Grin I'm just waiting to see what M does to herself.

TooImmatureGhostiesAndGhoulies · 19/10/2012 22:39

Crawling, Pomme! Wow! Yay A! Naked crawling is the easiest. Not that M is crawling, but she always tries hardest naked.

Well, we negotiated a 10 hour journey to Dorset on Tuesday. M was so good. She slept a lot, cooed to herself a fair bit and only cried a little. Then she went into PIL's, had dinner, gave them a shock with the mess of BLW Grin, went to bed at 9 and slept reasonably well, all things considered. We've to do the return journey on Sunday, though, which I am not looking forward to. We have been ignoring the 1.5 hr car seat rule because sticking to it would take hours longer.

Brooking hard for all poorly babies!

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 20/10/2012 02:38

Thanks hawthers - her weight is back above her birth weight (day 10) so we're not worried. I'll leave it a fortnight then (phew) :)

I'm scarred too! Fell out of bed aged 5ish and cracked my chin on a bedside table!

Blimey, ten hours too Shock that's a very long drive.

And well done minipomme :o

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 20/10/2012 11:46

Woohoo for Pomme's A!! Crawling!! Good work. Loving the idea of naked crawling as well Grin Sounds like Too's M and Biscuits' E will be next!

My little A has just pulled herself up to standing for the first time today! She did it twice in a row as well, which meant I could catch the second time on my iphone for DH. She's been able to keep herself standing whilst holding onto stuff since before our hol, but this is the first time she's independently pulled herself from sitting to standing. Very excited for her! She's 6 months next week.

No interest whatsoever in trying to crawl yet (Pomme can we borrow your A to be her teacher? Grin) but she loves it when we hold her hands and let her walk across the floor. Maybe now she can pull herself up she'll try cruising on furniture rather than destroying our backs. Need to get a push along toy that's heavy enough for her to pull herself up on. Any recommendations? The Vtech thingies look like they would just topple if she tried to pull herself up?

The scars talk is very funny! Probably funnier for us than our parents! I don't have any scars as such, but there's a fantastic pic of me around 3yo where I apparently fell and hit my head on the corner of an open drawer. It looks as though I have a bird's egg growing out of my forehead! It was a HUGE lump, as big as my little fist at the time! I bet Mum had fun explaining that to people... Grin

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 20/10/2012 11:47

Oh and yay for Fluffy's S's great weight gain! Nicely done!

Biscuitsandtea · 20/10/2012 18:51

Blimey Scream! A is pulling herself up to standing already! That is AMAZING! DS2 still can't even quite sit independently, or not every day at least! Some days he can but not every day.

And yay for A crawling pomme awesome effort!

OP posts:
PetWoman · 20/10/2012 20:36

I second Biscuits' wow for little A - seriously impressive strength and balance there! And great work to Pomme's A - what did she do when she got to her big sis? DS sits well but no signs of crawling yet thank goodness .

PetWoman · 20/10/2012 20:42

Too sounds like a heck of a journey - you seem to be coping v well with small baby and ILs!

I've stopped using non-bio as it didn't get rid of dirty marks. Now I just use ordinary detergent. Am I a bad mother? DS's skin seems fine...

Quick question about solids: how many meals a day should I be giving a 6.5 month old? I was doing 3 but it takes so long, and he wasn't that hungry (though that might be because he was coming down with this cold) so I've just done lunch and supper for the last 2 days. Is that ok? When should I move him to 3 meals a day?

pommedechocolat · 20/10/2012 21:00

pet - A's on 4 meals a day! That's because she's always hungry and I don't want to bf in the day time though. If he doesnt seem very hungry for more solids and is happy with milk I wouldn't worry too much I dont think?

A tried to pull dd1's hair which is what she always does to her! She really loves hair.

I also agree that too is practically a saint doing a 10 hour journey with a baby to see PILS.

scream - that's AMAZING. That's really early. Well done her!

I have a scar on my cheek that came from falling onto a sippy cup, my mum always gets a bit twitchy when dd1 is running around with hers!

DreamingOfPeace · 20/10/2012 21:31

I'm cheered by all of you who are scarred and seemingly hold no grudges against your parents!! I think DD looks Harry Potter-esque now Smile

pet, the dts are on 3 meals a day, just gone up to 3, total PITA but I know DD was on 3 meals a day by now and they seem keen, kind of. Well, B is, S not so much.

biscuits, I'll buy your book too! dts ate their lentil mush today which I forgot about and totally overcooked- any nutrients left?! And dh has given B half a sainsbury's own ff. Gulp. He was hideous at bedtime, but possibly pure coincidence, I'm just really nervous about it, so nay upset is attributed to the yoghurt. Hmm Fingers crossed everyone!! Dietician advice is half a petit filous size yoghurt every 3 days for 2 weeks, then a full one for 2 weeks, then grated cheese on food then lastly milk if they're still seeming ok. Sigh. Sounds like a lot of remembering to me. Is that what you tried pomme? You certainly know far more about it than the hv- dietician agreed with you that normal growth does not rule out cmpi by any means.

scream, that's SO early! wow. Do you think she'll be as early a walker as your relatives then?! I'm trying not to stress out about the dts. DD, as I've said, doesn't have great motor skills despite walking at 10 months. I'm worried the dts will be similar, and not crawl and be clumsy at best, dyspraxic/DCD at worst. dt2 can sit, for a pretty long time- maybe 10-15 minutes. dt1 can sit for about 10 seconds!!! he can roll front to back though, but dt2 can't roll- he's so like DD so far... I couldn't care less if they're not the first to do things, or even late, so long as they do catch up and get it in the end and aren't as bad as the kids i see!! And I don't mean I want them to be super sporty or anything, just not lose confidence in themselves by about age 7-8 which is often when kids notice they're not as good as their peers.

jaggythistle · 20/10/2012 21:36

oh i have a scar too, split my head open between my eyebrows when i was about one and a half.

eventually got round to giving neglected second born some food this morning. he had some apple, some carrot and some sweet potato. he looked a bit puzzled and i don't think much stayed in. Grin was v impressed with spoons though.

he appeared more impressed with a taste of the sauce from DS1's curry at tea time. i was expecting a Shock face when he tasted it but he was flapping about looking a bit excited for some more!

wow, that is early scream. R was 6 months this week and loves standing, although he can't get up himself. he does a sort of wobbly attempt at cruising round DS1's bed every night while we do a bedtime story and likes doing wobbly 'walking' holding hands too. he's pretty good at sitting now, although is still at the stage of needing you sitting with him as he could dive/fall in any direction at any time.

have tried putting him to bed twice so far but he's being a monkey tonight.

jaggythistle · 20/10/2012 21:49

oh, DS2 can technically roll over both ways, but he either can't be bothered or hasn't realised he can yet. he certainly looks a bit surprised if he ends up on his tummy. :)

if you lie beside him when he's on his back he goes straight to his side to see you, which i quite like.

I've started trying to teach him not to poke me in the eye or stick his finger in my nose while feeding. i remember DS1 doing it and i think one of the first words he tried to say was 'gentle' because that's what i said when trying to stop him pulling my lips/hair/ear off Grin Blush

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 20/10/2012 23:48

Grin at Jaggy's DS1's almost first word. Based on your experience then I'm now expecting DD's first word to be "careful". She's obsessed with hair, like Pomme's DD2, and can be a tad over-enthusiastic with unsuspecting toddlers/adults. Your DS2 sounds so cute with the rolling onto his side to see you!

Poor LO, she has a terrible snotty nose and is really struggling today. She hasn't slept in her cot since naptime yesterday, she coughs and splutters whenever she's put on her back. So it's going to be another night of co-sleeping here, or more accurately co-wriggling. She's had zero interest in food today, but I've tried her on Aptamil's "hungry milk" for the first time this eve, to see if this results in a longer stretch of sleep for us both. The hourly wake ups are killing me!

Yay for all the rolling, sitting, backwards shuffling and now crawling(!) DC!!! Our mini No Brookers are a determined lot! Dream try not to worry too much about your gorgeous brood says the person with zero experience to the medical professional It sounds as though the physio in you thinks your DC's development is in the normal range of kids' individuality. It's only the Mum in you which is worried about a problem that hasn't happened yet. It's soooooooo hard to just "forget" about stuff that's bugging you, even if your rational mind thinks it's a premature concern. I'm still much more stressed than I have even the slightest right to be about little A not showing any signs of crawling. My illogical brain can't see how she'll ever walk between 7 and 9 months if she doesn't get crawling soon! However maybe she'll skip crawling, or maybe she'll just walk at a time more in keeping with DH's family than mine. Either way, there's nothing to stress over yet, for either of us. Let's enjoy having DC who stay in one place while we still can! Grin

I'm soooooooo missing Purple! I wonder if she's lurking? I hope everything's going well for her.

Pet I've got DD on two meals a day, but she's often uninterested in the meals and I'm tempted to backtrack to just one a day. I'm more focused on getting her used to her beaker at the mo, since she's more interested in that.

Biscuitsandtea · 21/10/2012 04:36

Gah! Am sat here having my finger mauled by ds2 who is still kind of asleep but only by virtue of my having offered my finger up for this ritual sacrifice iyswim.

I wouldn't mind so much but I need to get up early to make myself look presentable for this christening, sort everything out and get everyone out of the house by 9:30.

Oh well, as long as ds2 never complains that I look like a haggard old woman in the photos Confused

Ah, he seems to have reverted to just cuddling my hand again now. Maybe I'll get back to bed before alarm o clock....

Nope, no more bed for me Sad

Now feeding e after he fully woke up but by the time he's done I will have to get up.

Oh no Biscuits I hope you've got plenty of help on hand today and you manage to enjoy it despite the tiredness. Hope it all goes well for you.

I've read the thread, some amazing achievements from our mini brookers. I'll try and post properly later but 1. I'm struggling with no laptop and 2. I'm having a bit of a hard time with anxiety at the moment which has sort of taken over the last few days. I'm trying hard to snap myself out if it, but there's a family problem which needs resolving. DH's, not mine.

DreamingOfPeace · 21/10/2012 10:46

Hope today goes well despite your tiredness biscuits

Oh no scarlet, its so hard if you're feeling anxious... Hope Dh's family issue is sorted ASAP so you can relax a bit

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 21/10/2012 13:44

Good luck Biscuits! I hope you're having a lovely day.

Sending lots of hugs to Scarlet. So sorry to hear you're going through a stressful time, I hope the issue in your DH's family is resolved quickly and with a good outcome.
