Thank you ladies I was starting to wonder if I was just being precious and doing it all wrong. I shocked myself by saying that but I think that was just the tip of the ice Berg after alot of other things that but starting to build up. I'm quite sad about how things are at the min as we use to get on great but not do much at the minute

chunky funny you should say it would effect my supply because apparently it would increase it!! Apparently when you leave your baby to cry your boobs no and start working harder to produce more milk Hmm

Congratulations debussey sorry you had a difficult time and hope you start to feel better soon, I'm sure the best medicine is lots of newborn cuddles Smile

ValiumQueen · 12/11/2012 07:48

Congratulations graduates!

I am getting aversion to demand feeding from MIL and DM. One bottle fed, one breast fed, but that was what mums were told in 1970.

I do not let J cry, especially at night, otherwise I have three kids and a grumpy DH to contend with. Poor little mite is full of snot and phlegm.

DesperateHousewife21 · 12/11/2012 07:59

Congrats debussy sorry you're feeling tired and sore though :( hope you get some sleep soon.

I actually had quite a good night, she slept from her last feed at 8:30 til 2:30, woke at 4ish for another feed then all up for the day at 7 so feel quite human today, might even go out to the park later!

Mil coming round this morning and that should be it for visitors til this weekend.

rowingdowntheriver · 12/11/2012 08:03

Congratulations debussy, hopefully you can get some sleep today.

StuntNun · 12/11/2012 09:01

I'm in favour of treating babies as you would any other human being. Imagine your four-year-old learning to ride his bike without stabilisers falls off and skins his knee. Do you (a) let him cry it out for a few minutes so he won't get spoiled and expect help or comfort when he injures himself, or (b) run out of the house barefoot to pick him up and tell him how sore his knee looks and put him back on his bike?

Donna nope I didn't end up using the laboraide at all. I was vomiting with strength of contractions so didn't fancy something in my mouth.

We had the best night so far last night. Slept from midnight til 2.40, fed for big feed then put down at 5am til 7.45 am. Quite happy and I also spent night in my bed rather than on the couch like the last few nights.

Going to try get to a feeding group today as its still hurting me quite a bit.

Lovely to see so many babies have arrived.

blonderthanred · 12/11/2012 09:33

Congrats debussy and all the new graduates! It is certainly getting well populated although somehow I doubt the threads will move as fast as the AN ones.

L had his worst night ever I think (well he was ok but ours was pretty bad!) - feeding 12-5am, then 7am till now. Started to worry there's a prob with my milk. He is fretful if he comes off the breast but not giving it his all when he is on. DH at work today so really wanted him to have a good nights sleep. I slept 5-7am. Hoping he will eventually have a good sleep so I can catch up.

ValiumQueen · 12/11/2012 09:51

Blonder. Growth spurt. Perfectly normal.

Elizadoesdolittle · 12/11/2012 09:57

Congrats chunky and shelly and to any others I have missed. I thought I would be able to keep up with this thread a bit more but haven't quite got the hang of one handed feeding yet. Since that's pretty much all I seem to do at the moment! It's going well but expect the usual struggles will come. DD1 (funny writing that) has spent the night at the in laws and is being truly spoiled which is good as I think she's getting a bit frustrated that all I'm doing is sitting on my fat arse feeding DD2. She's being so good though and loves being a big sis. Got to wait in for midwifes today. I hope they come before lunch as would like to go for a walk this afternoon. Not been out since Thursday and I'm getting cabin fever! I am loving having a newborn round again though. I forgot how much I enjoyed it first time round and I've never really been a baby person. I'll probably feel different once a couple of weeks of sleepless nights have taken there toll though Smile

Elizadoesdolittle · 12/11/2012 10:00

debussy congratulations. Sorry I missed you off the list. I had a second degree tear whereas with DD1 I had a third degree test. So not as bad but I feel more sore this time round. Think it's cos after DD1 I was on strong painkillers whereas this time it's just paracetamol or ibuprofen. It's not nice is it.

blonderthanred · 12/11/2012 10:11

VQ I hope you're right, nice weight gain on weds would be lovely. Smile

He's slowed down but I think he is overtired, he's quite screamy if I put him down, not his usual cries and he's rubbing and grabbing at his face a lot. Worried something else is wrong but how do you tell?! (I know there's no answer to this)

Eliza I know what you mean about one-handed feeding, I need my other hand to squidge my breast out of the way so he can breathe! It doesn't look quite like it does in the manual but it seems to work ok as long as I don't want a drink or to contact the outside world

DebussyHead · 12/11/2012 10:19

I have second degree tear too, it is really sore down there, considering putting mat pad in freezer as read that tip on MN somewhere. J would not settle last night as his arms startle and wake him so I put him in one of those summer pod swaddle things for the first time and it totally worked!! He slept for 3hrs straight then. Have just ordered more.

I can't believe how painful BF is again. It was v sore with DD and I nearly gave up but persevered and it improved after 3 weeks. Had hoped my nipples would have toughened up but the same pain is back again. I know my latch is prob not the best and he just has my nipple in his mouth but its hard to get him to open his mouth wide. Guess we are both learning how to do it.

Planning on having a bath this morning to see of it helps with aches and pains.

It's great being able to read your stories and share and compare our experiences of similar aged babies.

Chunkychicken · 12/11/2012 10:26

Debussy know what you mean about struggling to get them to latch properly. DS is terrible at just opening up a not then sort of sucking hard & dragging my nipple in. Have to keep taking him off and starting again. He also dozes off and loses the latch before stirring & going again on the end of my nip. I use a good nipple cream though so hoping not to get too sore but its v early days!! P.s. did I say congrats?? If not, well done!! Grin

DesperateHousewife21 · 12/11/2012 10:30

Painful BF here too, don't remember it being bad with ds but quite cracked this time.

Think the first night she was born when I didn't sleep at all has caught up with me, after singing her praises earlier for being so good last night and it hasn't made any difference!

blonderthanred · 12/11/2012 10:32

My nips hurt like hell the first few days but I'm applying the lanolin and nelson's burns cream religiously and much better now (just alternate them or use whichever is closest - nelson's v soothing), also being more militant about taking L off if he starts chomping them instead of latching!

horseylady · 12/11/2012 10:40

Awake pretty much went down at midnight up at 2am(had been 3 or 4 for a week) then awake all night!! Very hungry baby!! Growth spurt?! He's just over 2 weeks? He'd only doze on me so neither of us had much sleep. Plus he's full of cold too :(

I let hum cry while doing his bottle but never for long and he's generally held. I think stunt summed it perfectly with the toddler. Same with adults, people whatever age need reassurance in the way they understand.

blonderthanred · 12/11/2012 10:45

Horsey sounds similar to my night, we are 1 day ahead of you so that fits in terms of growth spurts. L is fast asleep on my chest now but not interested in being moved to the cot or basket. Exhausting!

DebussyHead · 12/11/2012 10:46

Thanks ChunkyGrin Congrats to you too, and everyone on here. How amazing are we that we have grown and delivered wee people?!! It blows my mind what nature does. Men have no idea, though granted a small role in it all!!

I am watching some BF latching videos on YouTube some are quite helpful. Also using the purple LAnoish cream (which incidentally is a great lip balm) so hope that helps too.

Do you guys wake baby to feed them if they have slept more than 3 hrs?? Midwife said not to let him go longer than 3 hrs but can't help thinking of the expression not to wake a sleeping baby! Also do any of you have mucousy babies and how long did that last? J is doing that gagging thing where he chokes a bit then spews up the bright yellow stuff, MW said it is mucus and normal but bit scary when they do it!! He is only 48 hrs old so hopefully it will pass and ill

DesperateHousewife21 · 12/11/2012 11:01

I def don't wake her! She went from half 8 til half 2 last night without feeding so...6 hours! But then I'm asleep so how can I wake her? They'll wake if they're hungry :)

horseylady · 12/11/2012 11:09

Debussy until he was back at his birth weight I woke him to feed, every three hours. Now I feed to demand, which overnight is about four hourly, during the day three hourly (ish) he averages 7 feeds a day. All the ff guidelines say he should have 6 a day but he's happy with 7 and seems to need that much so that's what he has. He just has slightly less per feed than they say. The overall daily total is correct! Apart from last night, everything was three hourly if not more!! He was very awake and very hungry!! And snuffly :(

Third degree episiotomy here!! It bled yesterday. Lovely!!

horseylady · 12/11/2012 11:12

Oh and he was Full of mucus after he was born, they said that's why he wasn't hungry :( very little coughing up though :( just lots of crying and refusing the breast, poor chap.

Evilwater · 12/11/2012 14:39

Well what a morning! :(
All was going well till around 12. I took my Brand NEW car (now 7 months) to be looked at as the fan was coming on when it didn't need to be. It turns out there is a stone in the air con compresser, which is located at the FRONT of the car.

It's going to cost £800 to fix. Apparently it's not covered by the warranty. Angry
Evil

NervousAt20 · 12/11/2012 14:49

Shock evil that's ridiculous! How can they say its not under warranty! Could you try other garages to see if you can get a cheaper quote?

I absolutly hate it when one of our cars go to the garage, I alway feel like we've been robbed blind Angry

DebussyHead · 12/11/2012 15:04

Nightmare Evil! That seems extortionate! MW came earlier, says J is jaundiced, need to look up what that means. She also said he needs to be on breast for 20 mins a time at least and 8 times a day. But he only feeds for 5-8 ish mins at a time then isn't interested any more.

ShellyBobbs · 12/11/2012 15:18

Forgot how much I love all this baby lark Grin

Congratulations Chunky :)
