Hi ladies, have created this to start our postnatal thread, so fire away!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Frizbe · 05/07/2006 23:26

Uni, you feed when you want to mate, they usually grow out of the middle of the night one sooner or later
Hot hot n hot here too! agree with Astrophe, Rom, you should make it here in 3 hrs or so
So whose had thunder then? we've had a brief sprinkling of rain today and that was that, pah! sooo want a cooling shower.....
Chelle, keep going with that bottle, I'm one of those firm believers, that if you give into them, they think they've got one over and do it again! but I also know that's easier said than done when your knack'd, have you tried a spot of calpol followed by bottle?
Anyway I'm in for a bad night I think, cause unless dd2 is still full of supper (she scoffed half a jar of banana/mango melba and a boob!) she's going to wake up soon, having just had her sleeptime bottle, and has left 1.5oz which she'd normally drink but then I've never seen her eat that much either, so?

Marne · 07/07/2006 12:40

Hi, dd2 is 4 months now, i know your not ment to wean till 6 months but have any of you started to wean already?

Astrophe · 07/07/2006 14:14

we are still just 'eating' milk here - not planning on food until 6 months-ish unless he gets suddenly ravenous. I think you can start from 17 weeks if you need to though.

I'm very excited as we are going to Birmingham to see the Wiggles tomorrow! DD doesn't know yet (will tell her when we are almost there as she doesn't understand waiting yet) but will be so pleased - she loves them.

Does anyone know Birmingham and how far shops are from NIA? Want to buy some shoes...Derby is sadly lacking.

Frizbe · 07/07/2006 21:30

Astro, we're going to Wiggles too not sure how near shops are to NIA tho?? we're driving there, and I seem to recall it's a trek from Train Stn to NIA and Train Stn is next to main shops.....which is why we chose to drive, only taking dd1 tho, dd2 is staying here with my best mate, who has no proper personal small baby experience at all, but she's a doc, so sure she'll manage for half a day with an 18wk old!

Marne, we've started a bit of weaning here and dd2 seems to be sleeping better for it!

Have a great weekend all

OP posts:
Frizbe · 09/07/2006 15:31

Hi all, no one's posted since I last did!
Astro, did you enjoy the wiggles?? we did, although at the merchandise prices, £6.00 for a balloon...dd1 has spent all day today, telling me she's like to see 'the yellow one' again today, or that she's going to ring him up! lol
Hope your all enjoying your weekends, I'm looking forward to dh finishing working away tonight for a whole week, hurrah! (working from home for the next week, which means I'll probably be sick of the sight of him by the end of tomorrow! lol)

Back from an busy couple of days away. Boy is exhusted and currently having a nice long nap.I've just ordered an ice cream maker as a B/D pressie from my parents. looking forward to that arriving, be something new to do with garden strawberries. As i suspected in laws had compleatly forgoten my B/D. Ho Hum.
We took boy to a wedding on friday- and he coped admirably, it was the noiseist wedding breakfast I've ever been to and boy didn;t like the noise much. he was Ok at the church tho and liked teh singing and music, but didn't like teh clapping and was taken out to the porch for the ceromony and the sermon, readings etc. There were 2 dads on baby duty during the service.

Weaning- I'm far to lazy to play that game yet. Am waiting till we get back from holiday before I think about it. We have started introducing him to water in a spouty cup, hes not overly impressed but has had a few sucks and swallows.

Got a blocked duct at the mo- ouch. So will be getting tits right out for the next few feeds, just as well I'm not planning on going anywhere tomorrow

Astrophe · 09/07/2006 15:46

friz weren't they great!? Although we did think one very important flag was missing the flag song and were rather shocked at the price of the balloons (dd went without). We took both ours. I was feeding ds after the show and an usher came and gave me a dirty look and said i'd have to go somewhere else to "finish doing what you're doing" (as if i was doing something dirty and unmentionable)...then said it was because they needed to clean or something. I've always hoped i'd be very firm and cross if anyone said anything about me feeding, but i actually felt awful and just left AND there was no feeding rooms at the big new shopping centre and the cleaner sugested i should feed in the baby change room sitting on the TOILET!!!

Apart from that wee loved birmingham - i guess i'm really a city girl at heart - today i am very homesick.

Astrophe · 09/07/2006 15:47

ha cross-post friz! re balloons!

Astrophe · 09/07/2006 15:50

and i meant 'we', not 'wee'...obviously am a mum changing lots of nappies!

Frizbe · 09/07/2006 16:03

at the NIA staff there, that's not good re BF policy..... thought they'd be better than that.....I've not been to Bullring recently with dd2 (assuming you meant Bullring shops) but last time was there with dd1, when I was BF, I just parked up in Selfridges cafe section, brought some food (along with the other mums who were with me) and got my boobs out and fed her! so I'm guessing its ok to feed in there, as no one mentioned anything to any of us (although we were a four strong force that day!) does seem odd they'd build somewhere and not put in places to feed, but thinking back, your right! think Meadowhall is lots better on this front.

Uni, mmmmm ice cream maker, sorry the inlaws/outlaws have forgotten your bday
and ouch re the block ducts...hope they clear soon.

OP posts:
Astrophe · 09/07/2006 16:12

I did just end up feeding in a cafe, which I'm normally fine with but it was very crowded and we were sitting bang in the middle! But it was fine, nobody said a thing, just smiles from the lady at the next able who ds was flirting with.

It was the bullring -Must go to meadow hall some time, everyone says its good.

UniSarah · 09/07/2006 18:37

Shame about NIA staff- not good form. I gave Boy a feed at Hopwood services on friday, looked for a table by the wall, but they were all in the smoking section. SO, settled down right in teh middle. Boy got through one side before he got totally distracted by the other children on tables near by.
Baby change room was OK for changing, but not any good for a feed, only the loo to sit on again. Was big enough for all three of us to get changed in to smart wedding togs tho, nicer than a cubicle in the ladies. I did get evils from a pair of bids as I was checking out the baby change room with out boy ( I like to know what its like and if its got room for all 3 of us) They stared at me and said "the ladies is UPSTAIRS you know". Little did they know it was daddies turn to change boy, so i cared not one jot about where the ladies was.

laundrylover · 09/07/2006 20:22

Hello everyone - where has the summer gone???
Sympathetic ouchs Sarah on the boob front - am pig sick of thrush now and Kiah seems to think that pulling away whilst still attached to my poor nids is a right bloody laugh.
DP has been away on a stag do which has joined neatly into going to the pub to watch the cup final! Luckily my sis stayed with me and the girls as her boyf on the stag too - Friz how on earth do you cope when your fella works away? hats off to you girl!
Yesterday my nan fell over in her flat and was taken into hospital, waiting 'til my mum and dad were on a rare overnighter!! So....we had to find her (checked in under her maiden name and was married during the war) and then take her home in a gown and dress and feed her. Poor love she was the stereotypical grumpy old bid complaining about the tea and toast to the nurses. I told her that tea and toast was the best thing I'd ever tasted after two long labours!! Anyway she's fine now and can't remember it at all so guess senility does have it's positives.

Frizbe · 09/07/2006 21:05

Oh poor nan LL, and your poor boobs too, hope the thrush clears soon, if its any help dd2 does the pulling away thing too, I thought it might be due to lack of stuff coming out?, hence the more you pull it about, the more it might work??? I've tended to move her to the other boob if she does it too much.....
Dh doesn't work away all the time, so its not so bad, sometimes its just weekends, sometimes he's at work elsewhere in the co, but makes it back late in the day and goes out early again, and sometimes like this week, he's working from home and actually has a weekend off coming up! hurrah! and he does all this so I don't have to go to work, lol eh!

OP posts:
Frizbe · 09/07/2006 21:06

should add to that, despite the fact that I'm self emloyeed and work from home too at the mo, but what I mean is he does it all so that I don't have to go back to my old style of work, which was very well paid, but long hours and all over the place too!

OP posts:
laundrylover · 09/07/2006 22:43

You're prob right about the pulling away as she doesn't do it at night when I have oodles of milk.
DP just got home with the smelliest feet EVER - sent straight to shower....

Astrophe · 10/07/2006 09:06

Mornin all. Our little lad is rolling all over the place this morning, having discovered back to front rolling on Saturday. Hes also figured out how to put his feet in his mouth - they are always very sweaty...yuck!

Its 9am and my dd is still asleep! She's been a bit unwell the last few days, so hopefully catching up and getting better.

My task for the day is to figure out which of our weenee nappy liners are no longer waterproof and then figure out HOW on earth this came to be. I'm not v impressed, but suspect DD may have made some adjustment to the washing machine and that they have gone through a hot wash, which they're not supposed to.

LL is the thrush still not better!? Poor you and poor Nan, hope she is ok now.

UniS, how is the blockage. Have had a couple over the past weeks, luckily hot shower, massage etc shifted them before it got to nasty. Hope you're ok. Is your spewy sickness all completely gone now?

Friz, my DH works very close to us and is always home pretty early. Sometimes he walks in the door and immediately gets grouchy with the kids, upsets the happy equilibrium of the home, and I wish he'd go back to work

Have a good day girls.
x Astro

PS Anyone know of anyone trying to sell a bumbo? Think we need one...

UniSarah · 10/07/2006 10:10

Don't know of anyone selling a bumbo, I'm on the look for one as well! Had a lead, but then havn't made it to mums and tots for a couple of weeks. At this rate boy won't need it by the time I find one 2nd hand. his sitting gets better every day.

Blocked duct seems sorted now, lots of massage and a bit of expressing in teh shower seem to have shifted it. Had a crumby night wwith wakefull boy at 2.30 -3.30 :-( Ho Hum, bedtime and 11pm worked just fine tho, so its not the end of the world.
I'm puttig off a huge jobs list.. jam making, washing up, bathroom cleanig... boys still in cot from his morning nap, hes burbled a bit but might have nodded off again. Got to stop in this morning as Dhs new bike is being delivered.
NO Not nodded off, better go and get him befor he howls the place down.

laundrylover · 10/07/2006 14:47

Yes still have thrush but sis is posting Fluconazole from Asia and then bringing me some back when she returns from a year away in 5 weeks, so will survive on Ibruprofen 'til then.
Sis hasn't seen Kiah obviously or Tilly since she was 18 months - she's in for a shock!
Astro, do you mean nappy wraps? I always make sure I have ones that wash at 60 as the others crack after a while. I do try to handwash them most of the time but when that yellow poo gets 'em they go in the bucket.
Hope the bike arrives soon, Sarah....

Astrophe · 10/07/2006 15:22

LL, they are waterproof liners that go inside weenees pants - its different to most nappies but essentially the same as a wrap. They are only meant to be washed at 40, and you can't soak them, so I'm not really sure how I'm supposed to get them clean. I think 3 of our 4 are ruined but I have some more on order. You can buy the waterproof bit by itself for £3.50, so not quite as bad as ruining a wrap.

My fam are coming in 3 weeks, Dad hasn't seen ds yet, and hasn't seen dd for 7 months. It will be fun to see they're surprise I think, DD has learned to speak really well these past 7 months...not a baby anymore!

laundrylover · 10/07/2006 15:36

never heard of weenees but they sound all back to front to me!!
It will be lovely for your dad to see the kids eh? I'm sure our DDs will be having some comedy conversations when we meet at Chatsworth, Tilly is very vocal too. Sneaking a bit of MNIng as one asleep upstairs and one filling up the living room with toys quite happily.

UniSarah · 10/07/2006 16:32

no bike yet:-( may be tpos as i have boy oin my lap , playing with "his" computer ( a v tec sequencer) my mum gave him. rasther noisey as he does DJ eddy stuff
f f f f ooot, h h h and beepy beepy etc
thank goodness it has an off button. its not a toy i'd have chosen for him, but he does seem to like it.
this bike will be dh's 3rd!i make do with 1. ho hum, it was his bonus so i can't whimge to much about his spending half of it, the rest will go towards redoing the bathroom.
Strange introducing a new baby to family after some months isn;t it. We saw my bro for teh 1st time since boys birth on friday. Hes missed seeing him as a tiny. will be even werider with SiL as shes in teh states with umpteen kids so we won;t see them till we can afford to go and vist, when ever that is. She sent over a load of clothes with little SiL tho, Dh and his sis had fun going through them and working out which nephew should get what (they are 3 months apart in age)
Jamis now made and cooling, bathroom sparely cleaned, just got to tidy Living room and fill up teh bird feeders to have donme all my jobs list for today- hurrah.

Astrophe · 10/07/2006 16:36

Mine are both sleeping now! Don't know quite what to do with myself. I guess I should do some dishes, DH due home soon...

How old is Tilly? I'm sure I should know but have forgotten. My DD turned 2 in June.

here is a link to Weenees pouch pants, if you're interested. They are all back to front! We are very happy with ours so far...aside from us ruining them, but can't blame it on the product

Enjoy the peace LL...

gothicmama · 10/07/2006 16:38

Hi all,
really sorry but me and ds can't make the meet up I have reluctantly decided 4 hours travlling there and back is a bit to much for the boy.

We have started weaning and sleep is very much improved , he is now once again a very contented baby
ll hope you get better soon

laundrylover · 10/07/2006 17:30

Gothic, that's a shame but next time we'll try to be nearer.
Astro, Tilly was two in Feb so they should get on well (?!). They look good the weenees - what do you stuff them with? Guess microfibre cloths would work well with them? Knowing how Tilly's nursery struggled with her nappies, God knows how they'd have coped with ones that fasten at the back!
