Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
romilly · 18/06/2006 20:05

hi everyone! i am sorry i havent posted in ages. find it hard to find the time tbh. (we moved house a month and a half ago and still unpacking, lol...)

i have a question - does anyone else's baby totally defy the lunchtime and a/noon naps? my little one sleeps at 10 ish for about 45 mins then pretty much stays awake the rest of the day unless i take her out in the pram (which i always do) - when she will power nap for say half an hour. but that is it Shock she refuses to kip in her cot in the afternoon so gets v. overtired. on the plus side i normally get her to bed by 7pm , but only cause the poor little thing is exhausted. i am worried that this is really bad for her, as most people seem to have babies that nap during the day too.

any suggestions from anyone, PLEASE?!

romilly · 18/06/2006 20:06

p.s. i try longer pram walks but she still wakes up after a bit

UniSarah · 18/06/2006 21:33

Rom- you are not alone. Ed will usually have a nap about an hour after his breakfast! so by 10 when we go out to baby clinic etc hes already had a nap! then MIGHT fall asleep again around 12ish or might not do if hes does its for a couple of hours but I havn;t yet managed to get this to happen in his cot, thenif he hasn;t had a mid day nap he will probadly have a snoze in the afternoon at some point for about an hour, again rarely in the cot, being put into the cot seems to wake him up. Like you we find hes knackered by bath time at 7 followed by bed.
Most of eds naps are taken in his rocker chair - which will lie flat like a hammock or in the pram. naps at home he falls asleep on me or occasionally in his rocker.
I've stopped worrying about it, he seems to be thriving. Will worry about getting him to sleep in cot during the day when he out grows the chair.

Munz · 18/06/2006 21:37

i'm with uni - one step at a time, joey's just in his cot now form the cradle so we'll do day time naps once he's outgrown his rocker. he normally has either 3 45min naps or 2 hour naps and one 2 hour nap, i've noticed thou if he nap's more one day he naps less the next iycwim. he also has a little power snooze for half hour before bed time at about 6.30 - this enables us to do the bath/feed plesantly and bed time's 8.30 at the minute - (down form 9 so we're getting there) will worry bout bringin it forward later on! lol.

gothicmama · 19/06/2006 14:40

HI girls not poste for ages all is fine here, we had a weaning talk from the baby clinic lat week, ds is slepping through the night still although has started dribbling like mad - trhink it is the start of teething altho he is young still. Munz when did Joey start teething

UniSarah · 19/06/2006 15:17

hi gothic- Hv sent us a leaflet about weaning the other week. seems a bit early to me but HV at baby club explained they send them early coz it reminds some people that 12 wks is to early!perssonally i'm going to hold off as long as poss, don;t want to get into the steriling rigmarole. oh goota go- poohy boy.

gothicmama · 19/06/2006 15:23

yes I want to wait as long as poss altho some people at the talk had already started!! Think I will wait and see when ds is ready he is drinking loads atthe moment but seems content. I think dd was 17 weeks but then teh advice was 4 months

Munz · 19/06/2006 15:49

goth - he started the dribbaling at about 10 weeks when I went home at 13.5 weeks his gums were hard then on fri morning I've noticed a white sharp point out the side of his gum (gonna double check it's ok with the nurse tomorrow) he was 16 weeks. I thought it was far too soon, but as alwasy my son decided what he wants when he wwants and to hell with what the books say/anyone thinks cos that's what he wants! lol - stubborn little man! lol.

I want to hold off with weaning as well, althou mum keeps teeling me it's a load of tosh and I should wean him next thurs when he's 17 weeks - after all what do HV's know! [big sigh] an so it goes on! lol.

romilly · 19/06/2006 19:58

agree on weaning. wait til 6 months if you can. less puree-ing hassle to do anyway!

thanks munz and unisarah for nap info. i guess i will just have to persevere and see if she gradually learns that sleeping isnt such a bad idea after all! i think she already doesnt like to miss out on anything, lol....

laundrylover · 19/06/2006 21:30

Rom - my girls never have a proper daytime sleep (ie in a cot) and just sleep wherever and whenever. Bed at 7pm sounds fab so I would just keep up with what you're doing.Grin
Sarah - you know you don't have to sterilise ANYTHING!!! By the time they are weaning they are into everything anyway but this time round I've not even bothered doing pump and bottles. Read the threads on here and was empowered!Smile
Have to say that I really enjoyed our weekend away without the terrible toddler (does that make me a bad mummy?!) and with the amount of Bellinis I put away on Brighton beach I'm sure Kiah must have had a hangoverBlush.
Back to the tantrums and sleepless nights now though...

Frizbe · 19/06/2006 22:05

lol at hungover baby LL Grin

Munz, HV here says 17 weeks is ok if hungry! but to remember to go straight to lumpy food if waiting until 6mths!!!

Rom, naps ansa on beanie thread, although I forgot to say ambersol is also good for teething babies, as is nelsons teetha (powders like the ashtons n parsons)

UniSarah, good to see your back in the saddle Smile

Soooo had good time camping, I was the harrased lady on the beach tho, feeding dd2 when dd1 decided to leg it into the sea.....luckily lots of sympathetic other parents about, who could see it was just me and the two girls, so helped me keep an eye on my paddling toddler (also very good beach, gently sloping sand, with no imminent drops).....and very nice lady who also helped me whilst in the park, as the second I picked dd2 up as she was hot and bothered, dd1 wanted helping off the swing.....
Poor dd2 has had horrible teething rash on neck tho, that got sooo bad, we were doing 3 bibs and hour and it has scabbed over, stopped using pharmacy recommended aqueous cream, as it made it redder.....went with vasogen, until it ran out, then went with metanium and immediately covered it over with clothes/bibs to stop scratching and eating.....got more vasogen on perscription today from HV, luckily its starting to heal, poor mite......anyone else got bad teething drool/rash?

romilly · 20/06/2006 12:38

Announcement: romi is in her COT and ASLEEP at 12:20 Grin she must have read my posts and felt guilty, lol....

UniSarah · 20/06/2006 14:51

LOL rom - they do that don't they. I think Ed took the hint as well as he fell asleep in the cot this morning at 10ish. I only popped him in there to be safe while I hung the washing out! I had to phone and postpone an appt as I didnn't want to wake him up straight away.

gothicmama · 21/06/2006 20:50

Thanx miunz - think it must be the start of teething.
Friz i di wonder about weaning at 6 months and whether it should be puree or lumpy.
With day time naps ds naps downstairs on a soft play mat and sleeps at night in his cot got to go adn speak to dh (he's had no adult conversation today)

UniSarah · 21/06/2006 21:43

I know how gothicdad feels. By bathtime tonight I was about to go loopy, how often can one sing the wheels on the bus... although by the end of bathtime I had also sung a round of "we're all drying eddies body" singing seems to do a great job at calming the boy down and getting dried after his bath is about his least favourite bit of the day- loves the bath itself tho!
DH is out on a bike week bike ride tonight and wil be playing cricket tomorrow. I ended up walking to the supermarket just to give me something physical to do this afternoon. Tomoorow thank goodness its baby massage in the morning and the toy libary is open in the afternoon.

UniSarah · 21/06/2006 21:46

Laundry lover- one for you.
spotted on the label of one of DS's bibs " wash inside out" WTF- its a bib!
one for who ever- after DH decided the dust was toooo thick on monday ( his aunt and uncle were due to pop in ) we were treated to his version of housework -
slack dads dusting minute.

Frizbe · 21/06/2006 22:30

Lol at the dusting minute! my dh has decided today he's fed up of working all the time, so I've offered to do that bit, but he's said no seems you can't please some people, seems to think we should both be able to stay at home, like that's going to pay the bills......he's in cloud cuko land......
Hope all are ok today, had pants sleep here last night, hoping for better today....tba!

OP posts:
UniSarah · 22/06/2006 17:52

apparently i got it wrong- it was slack dads half arsed dusting minute!
i have ed on my lap playing with a chimeabout i have from the toy libary. v noisey but i think hes enjoying it A LOT, keeps trying to eat it tho time 4 afternoon scran 4 boy i think. byeeeee

Frizbe · 22/06/2006 21:12

lol at eating everything! mines been suffering today, added a tad of nurofen this afternoon, has two rather pointy teeth just under the surfaces, one at top right side, other bottom right side....guess they're working there way up and around, sigh....

OP posts:
Munz · 23/06/2006 13:24

friz - 2 toothy pegs! well done neve. Joey still only has the one pointing out - apparently he's going to be a cross cutter - ouch form what I can gather! lol. still least we know boy's def cut his first tooth!

UniSarah · 23/06/2006 15:38

WHY does he wait til hes in clean dry nappy and THEN fill it with pooh in the 1st 20 mins!

romilly · 23/06/2006 20:45

unisarah - SNAP! romi's big meltdown is straight after the bath when im drying her. loves the bath - then the bottom lip goes as soon as i snuggle her up in her towel and she's inconsolable! i have learnt a few diversionary tactics - like tickling her tum with my hair, works sometimes - other times not must add, it is not cause the bathroom is too cold as i go to great lengths to ensure full spa pampering treatment with fluffy towels and warm temperature, lol...

anyhow we had 1 and a 1/2 hours lunchtime kip in the cot again today. mind you it was following injections so possibly not my great mothering skills finally coming into their own

UniSarah · 23/06/2006 22:13

Rom- jabs smabs- it WAS quality parenting showing with those nap time sucesses today. They do go sooo pathetic after a bath when that lower lip quivers don;t they. Tonight DH managed to get him as far as his sleeping bag before the melt down- thanks love- so i got to deal with it before he'd feed.
However, been nice to pass boy over to daddy at 6pm and not get him back again till bedtime feed at 7.15.
We went to Bicton today with friday group (mums and tots). Loverly gardens and fab play grounds and soft play barn for the toddlers. a photo was taken of all the kids, the only way to get them all in the pic , no wondering off or hiding behind each other, was to line up all the pushchairs with babies straped in! Will be long thin picture when its printed. It's the 1st friday group pic Eds been in, hes the youngest by 9 months at the mo.

Frizbe · 23/06/2006 22:46

Aww bless Uni! glad you got some time to yourself tonight!
Munz, tegs not cut, they're lurking under the surface but very sharp!
DD1 has cleared the trots, but appears to have developed and given dd2 conjunctivitis......argh! drops for dd1, saline for dd2, poor mite, couldn't even open her eye for green gunk after her morning nap, much to the shock of my friend who went to get her out of her buggy

OP posts:
UniSarah · 24/06/2006 22:17

Bleergh- grumpy boy again today. I'm of the opinion its all related to my periods :-( this is the 2nd time hes been grump boots at same time. Thank goodness both times so far its been friday into weekend so dh is around to share the trauma of trying to keep screaming boy calm.
We try rocking, patting, bouncing, bongoing, on his front, back, playing , not playing, boobs don't help as hes not interested a lot of the time. But nothing works for more than about 5 mins and then boy is yellling again. Singing or a trip to the supermarket are the things that seems to work best.
However bed time worked just fine and hes asleep now. Silence- bliss.
