shhhh · 15/09/2006 14:48

Thanks for the feeding tips everyone.! Yes that was my friends 1st..unlike me she wants to do everything by the book, I just plod along but at times do panic a little.
DD is exactly like others, she feeds herself sometimes (with help off me putting it onto her spoon or on her fork) and is gbrill with putting it into her mouth but like you said pj's she gets it quicker if I do it..! LOL she also makes the MMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm sounds.!

Well dd has cows milk on her cereal and a bit in her bottle with cereal and then has more at bedtime. No idea how much, Just whatever she will drink. Varies from 2-5 oz's at night and maybe 6oz's morning as it;'s usually on weetabix. She to has lots of cheese and yoghurts etc.

Well all is well with dc2..Our 20 weeks scan went fine and we have found out we are having ...........a boy.!! Slightly daunting as only having dd and being a woman myself I worry how I deal with a boy lol..! But hey ho it's all in the hands of our maker. Just relieved that all has gone well.

Shhhh, thats exciting that you know what it is. Glad all is going well for you too.
Dd has 6oz milk first thing - in a cup, milk on her breakfast cereal, and 7oz in a bottle before bed. She also has yoghurts and custard but isn't very keen on cheese, she only eats feta cheese so far!
She'll also eat from a spoon with me helping her, but only a few mouthfulls per meal, I do the rest!

logic · 15/09/2006 21:30

Congrats Shhhh! Boys are lovely, busy but so exciting. You'll have to think of some names now!

flannelettepyjamas · 16/09/2006 07:57

Congrats Shhhhh and glad your scan went well.
I've got my nuchal scan next week.
I know what you mean about having a boy though - I think I'll be a bit shell-shocked if it turns out to be a boy. All my favorite names are girls' names. I'll be really chuffed with whatever comes out of course.

logic · 16/09/2006 20:01

I was shocked in the other direction. I thought all children climbed the walls and flooded the kitchen - girls are much more sedate

Maddison · 26/09/2006 14:36

Congrats again on your little boy Shhh, they are fab (I'm sure girls are too, but i only have my boys to go on !)

If you remember a while ago I was a little worried as DS2 was so quiet.......well now he hardly shuts up!! No recognisable words yet though he does try to shout for DS1 but he babbles such a lot, I don't know what I was worrying for really! Part of being a mum I suppose Oh and he does click his tongue to make horses hooves sounds!!

On the feeding front, He does try and feed himself sometimes, only I load his fork up and hand it to him. He insists on feeding himself yogurts though from start to finish, what a mess he ends up in

I also think he's getting more teeth, he's a bit cranky atm

LittleB · 26/09/2006 19:37

They're so much fun at the moment aren't they. My MIL looked after dd while I was working today and she's taught her to shake hands and say 'ow do' (how do you do). She thinks its great!
dd seems to have been teething non-stop for over a month now, combination of her molars and her incisors, and colds which mean she's been restless at night for a while, but she doesn't really let it bother her during the day.
I think being a mum gets better all the time !

shhhh · 29/09/2006 22:27

bless..littleb thats so cute. Yes you are right, having babies gets better each day although that said I was climbing the walls yesterday...I was doing my housework as normal BUT everytime I turned my back dd was in the drawers tipping everything out..grrrr...So basically nothing was getting tidied..! But I still love her .!!

She too babbles ALOT, We have no idea what she says but we talk back. So far she understands us 110% but we wish we understood her.! Her thing at the moment is: We ask what a cow says (sometimes have to prompt her) and she makes a mooing noise. Not perfect like a cow but near enough. So cute!!!

Right..I need advice..what meals are you doing your lo's..? Breakfast is sorted and dinner is sorted but what about lunch..?? DD is being such a nightmare atm that sometimes she barely eats. She refusses bread so I give her crackers which she loves along with cheese but some days she won't even eat this..? I have tried toast, spagetti, beans, toasties, chicken, sausages, small sandwiches etc etc but it all goes on the floor..
I;m stuck. Thing is I know she is being fussy as at times I have offered a cereal bar or a biscuit and her little face lights up and she squeals in delight.! Little madam.!!
Surely she can't live on crackers and cheese.? She is also now getting fussy over yoghurts or rice pudding or custard oh and refusses to eat fruit now. Used to love strawberries, raspberries etc..
Do I just accept she's now a "terrible 2" (but a cute one at that..!) and is being fussy and starting to make demands on me..? Is this it now until after her teenage years..arrgghh..! I'm only 27, I'm too young for all of this..! ha..!!!

I don't know what to suggest shhh, except perhaps keep trying. Some days dd will refuse something, only to happily eat it the next day. Sometimes I put the TV on and she gets distracted watching this and I can pop food into her mouth - this is probably a bad thing in the long run, encouraging her to watch tv while eating, but it does help me now!
You could just try different things, dd loves marmite on toast, yells 'marmite' loudly, she also really likes those sardines in tomatoe sauce in tins, spread on toast, my HV suggested it, a good way to get her to eat oily fish and she loves it. Or how about pasta with sauce, large enough to eat as a finger food? dd has this with tomatoes, tuna, cheese, etc.
She's difficult with fruit too, but I chop apple, pear etc and mix it with warm custard or rice pudding and she loves that. But her appetite does seem to vary from week to week, I guess its with growth spurts.
Dd also loves biscuits and cake too, she says cake and 'bicbic', but you should see her face light up when she's given chocolate (only at weekends {wink}.
So sweet when they 'moo' etc. dd keeps crawling and roaring like a lion!

aquablue · 01/10/2006 14:03

shhh - yes i would just keep trying everything and see what works! do you give snacks that might fill DS up? i actually give ds same food for lunch as i would for dinner. but have to say i am lucky he is a good eater.

MIL has come over to visit us this week. ds has been exceptionally naughty and really trying us, and it has ended up with about 3 tantrums by noon! can't believe how naughty he is - actually makes us laugh about it afterwards cos he just does it for an audience to laugh with him! we have found time-out for about 20 secs with the door closed in his room has worked - although would've thought he was too young for this??

some news from me, just found out i am pregnant with no.2! due early june! it was planned, and actually no.2 is due a day before ds' due date 2 years ago! only 5 weeks preg, but have not experienced the morning sickness, night peeing etc yet. just can't remember when it all started with ds (which was yucky queasiness until about wk 13). i am so hoping i won't get it, but knowing my luck it will probably hit me with a ton of bricks one day soon!

shhhh · 01/10/2006 18:17

aqua..congratulations..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW will be back later to post as just off for dinner..Just wanted to say congrats..!!! Welcome back to the club ..!!!

OP posts:
shhhh · 01/10/2006 20:10

right I am back. Thanks for the meal suggestions. Maybe like you have said it's just dd being fussy. Thing is she now refuses to eact fruit which worries me as I always made sure she ate a balanced meal and she was always a good eater.
We weren't well last weekend, both had colds so maybe thats put her off for a while iykwim.

Re: Marmite on toast..euugghhh I can't think of anything worse to eat..! Sorry but I am on the "hate marmite side"..!! May try it though as I suppose she will like things I hate..! Actually she has the odd sprout.......bleugghh..defo got that off dh..!!
About snacks. I don't tend to give her anything between meals unless we are out shopping etc. She usually has for lunch and dinner a starter, main and dessert. ATM not all 3 are eaten. Maybe she is just changing with food tastes and how hungry she is. The more I think the better I feel, surely if she was hungry she wouldn't sleep for the time she does at night.?

aquablue · 03/10/2006 02:57

thanks shhh!
the lack of apetite could also be teething...ds gets like that at times - just loses his apetite or hates to chew.

flannelettepyjamas · 03/10/2006 10:29

HUGE congratulations Aqua. How exciting for you.
How are you feeling?
I'm 14+5 now and just back from hols in NZ. We went skiing for 2 afternoons ( I was 13 weeks then) and loved it.
Sorry, no advice on the feeding front - DD has been a bit picky lately herself.
Something I read somewhere said that although they have days when they eat hardly anything and days when they eat nothing but bread or fruit or whatever, that overall if looked at for a couple of weeks they do eat a balanced diet. I try to remember that when we have days when she eats sod all (like today).
What do you do with LOs that keeps them entertained for a while??
I've tried playdough but she's not that into it; painting - nah; playing 'house' with a cardboard box - nah;
The things that really work at the mo are;

  1. a packet of balloons ( not blown up, lots of different colours/ shapes) - loves sorting them
  2. washing up bowl of bubbly water (just discovered this week) - bloody marvellous. Any other ideas for things to do while making dinner??
northstar · 03/10/2006 12:38

Congratulations Aqua
dd (and ds of course) have me going from 6.30am to 8pm then there's the clear-up after. I am quite tired atm and not sure how I would cope with the tiredeness of pregnancy on top of all that so I hope all you pg May mums are taking care and getting plenty of rest.
I have lost the instructions to my camcorder and can't guess how to connect it to the computer and download photos. I have one hour a day to figure this out because I am too brain-frazzled by night-time and just try stuff when dd is having her nap.
DD has learnt Giraffe ( or - "'raff") and she is just SOOOOO cute

aquablue · 04/10/2006 01:55

thanks fp & northstar! still feels surreal that another is coming. i will need these 9 months to figure out how to cope with 2! no morning sickness yet, but thinking last time it might've come around wk8, i just can't remember! yes obviously got pregnancy mush brain (on top of the first lot which still hasn't left!), and feeling tired but otherwise i'm good!

fp, what is 14+5? does that mean you're 19wks? i have completely forgotton everything about pregnancy, i might as well be a first timer! there's a few things that keeps ds busy for at least 15 mins: going through my wallet and taking everything out; eating sultanas from the little box; drinking a smoothie; or u could just bring the highchair in and just make them sit in it with something to play with (at least they can't move around!). hey fp, doesn't the washing up bowl of water just end up on the floor??!

northstar - just connect the usb cable between the computer and camera. open up the photo editing program, and it should automatically import the photos in...i know easier said than done!

flannelettepyjamas · 04/10/2006 04:11

14 weeks, 5 days
I put the washing up bowl outside on the patio and yes it does certainly end up all over the floor and she also climbs into it and gets soaked - but at least it entertains for a while.
It's getting quite warm here - 27 degrees today so I it's quite feasible to let her get wet outside.
She hates hates hates being restrained for anything other than food whne she's hungry so I've been looking for things that entertain while not restrained.

aquablue · 05/10/2006 09:59

ohh okay...well i am 5+4 then!
washing up bowl sounds great - especially ds is such a waterbaby!
can you believe how close christmas is? 3+months!

flannelettepyjamas · 05/10/2006 12:50

Oh, don't start on that!!!

northstar · 05/10/2006 21:15

Aha aqua, I had found the usb cable and attached it to them but didnt know what to do then, now I'll have to switch on and go to edit etc. God I wish I could find the instructions. I live in a really small house with very little storage - they have to be around somewhere.

Here's another one enjoying the discovery of boxes of raisins - gets me a good 5 mins peace per box.

DD is getting a dance mat for Christmas - anyone else got a big(ish) present in mind yet?

shhhh · 06/10/2006 16:55

christmas..!!! Yep only about 12 weeks away but I have started buying already..! So fa I have got dd that fisher price rocking zebra..! Looks really good.! Got some other bits and pieces like books and toys etc. God I love christmas..!!! MC had a plate in the catalogue that came today..it was "santa's mince pie plate" so so very cute..!!!

Glad everyone is well and glad all us mums to be again are well..!!

OP posts:
Maddison · 09/10/2006 21:36

I'm going to get DS2 that rocking zebra thing too, have you tried it yet shhh??? If so how do you rate it?? It's DS1 that I'm stuck for, I have no idea what to get him, he just 'wishes' for everything he sees atm Hmm, methinks Santas sack isn't big enough for all those toys DS1!!!

DS2 had his follow up eye check today, she said that the stygmatism (sp?) is still there and she wants the hospital to look at it more closely, so we should hear from them soon.

Can I also have a 'quiet' proud mummy moment please?? DH & I have been to DS1's parents evening tonight and he is doing brilliantly His teacher wants to give him every Friday off because he works so hard Mon-Thur and is in a lovely little place in a world of his own on a Friday Okay , proud mummy moment over

Maddison · 09/10/2006 21:37

PS, congrats on the pregnancy aquablue

flannelettepyjamas · 10/10/2006 11:09

Aaaah Maddison that's lovely, well done to your DS.
How old is he??
DD has started climbing with a vengeance!
Onto the dining room table , trying to get into the bath ( no success so far), sofas of course, up into her highchair and then sat there and helped herself to a piece of bread from the counter top!
Yikes, it's really starting now.
And why does it still come as a shock even when you know it's bound to happen.
I forgot to tell you that I lost her the other day
We walked out of a lift together in the hotel we were staying in while I was trying to pack the car and when I turned around she'd disappeared. In a matter of seconds ( like about 2) she had dived back into the lift and it had sailed up to the 9th floor .
She was rescued by a cleaner up there.
Scary moment!
Phew, please tell me you all have similar incompetent mother stories!

northstar · 10/10/2006 11:12

AAAAAH for maddisons ds thats fantastic, well done so far!!! Ds first ever parent teacher meeting coming up this month so fingers crossed for him too. If his teacher has anything bad to tell me I think I will cry.
dd got her rocking horse for her birthday and is a total nutcase on it - she does rodeo tricks including standing on its back and lifting one leg up, riding backwards and running at it sideways and launching herself completely over it. Must say it is great but has put me off sending her for real horse-riding lessons LOL.
