LOL northstar, loved your post!!! Very true too

Uwila · 02/08/2006 07:49

Hi everyone. I haven't had a chance to read the thread. But, I haven't been here in ages so wanted to pop in and say "hello". Is anyone elses baby not walking yet. DS cruises around, but he drops to the floor to crawl if he's in a hurry to get somewhere, like if there is a bottle or a cookie being flagged in front of him.

I hope everyone is well. I'll try to come back and catch up in a while.

logic · 02/08/2006 19:59

Dd isn't walking yet, either, Uwila. She cruises but crawls for distance. She is ill today and it looks like she isn't going to nursery tomorrow.

Maddison · 03/08/2006 08:25

Oh Logic, poor DD, and poor you too I know how hard it is leaving them to go to work and I know it's harder to leave them and go to work when they're ill. DS1 was a little bit older than our babies are when I had to put him into nursery (he was 18 months) and he cried and clung onto me everytime I left him. The only thing i could do was to give him to the nursery staff (well, they had to prise him off me) and walk out. It was very hard to do but they assured me that within miinutes he was fine and was fine for the rest of the day. Please don't think you going back to work is at your DD's expense - she will be learning great social skills and playing all day with babies of her own age. She also has her big brother there too and if she see's him excited and happy there she may well settle in nicely too. It is still early days. Plus i found that because I wasn't with him all day I used to cherish the time we did have together even more iykwim. And also I believe that by me going to work and leaving DS on a morning and collecting him on an afternoon sort of helped him with school, we didn't have the separation issues that a lot of the other kids had. Sorry for the waffling post, but I hope this helps you a bit.

PS Both you and Uwila should enjoy the peace of having non-walkers while it lasts DS2 has got me knackered!!! He now climbs onto the dining chairs and onto the table I have to be 2 steps behing him at ALL times

Uwila · 03/08/2006 10:40

Oh they don't have to walk to climb. We have that one down. A couple of weeks ago I left him in his high chair in the kitchen, forgetting to buckle him in. I came back downstairs to find him sitting up on the kitch table playing with DD's freshly picked dandelions. He looked very proud of himself. Scared the crap out of me. And he crawls very fast.

Oh well, my DH didn't walk until he was 18 months so I suppose it's his genes not mine.

shhhh · 03/08/2006 13:34

at your ds sat on the kitchen until uwila..!!! The things they do that you never think about are scary..!!

Logic, how has work been so far..?

Thanks for the support, girls! I'm sure you're right Maddison, the nursery says that within minutes, both are fine and playing happily. It really breaks my heart to leave them though. I have noticed that I appreciate them a lot more too. I'm happier around them and play more in the evenings. The job is going great and I'm really enjoying the peace, quiet and the cups of tea!!

Dd is climbing too, I frequently catch her hanging off the living room door handle! She took two steps again today. It can't be long now. I want to buy her little pink shoes!

Uwila · 03/08/2006 21:55

Oh great, so my DS is going to be the LAST one to walk in the group....

Lazy sod!

shhhh · 04/08/2006 11:05

uwila both yours and logic's are at the same stage by the sounds of it. DD was the same in that she walked a few steps, saw something she wanted so crawled the rest!! But she now walks virtually everywhere. I wouldn't stress as I'm sure your ds will be walking sooner than you think. DH & I were amazed at how quick dd went from crawling & a few steps to walking loads. She seemed to get it from nowhere.

Anyway wasn't your ds one of the ones born later in May..? Sorry I can't remember... Remember as well, he may have done things quicker than other may babies..Some babies her are saying a few words..dd babbles ALOT but we can't understand a word she says!! Sometimes we hear something so encourage her to say it etc more but mostly it's a foreign language..!!

logic · 04/08/2006 21:55

nope dd will be the last in the group to walk, uwila. Recently been told that ds is behind in physical development but ahead in intellignece. Can't have it all! Sorry am drunk. Dinner out with dh this evening, kids with in-laws wey-hey.

Maddison · 04/08/2006 22:33

I'm going to get drunk tonight too logic. I've had a bad day and I'm and Bearing in mind I don't drink often (I'm almost teetotal) this won't take much

Infact, I think I'll go and top up my vodka now...

northstar · 04/08/2006 23:32

Hey Madison are you still here and did you get drunk?

Maddison · 05/08/2006 08:29

Hi Northstar! I didn't exactly get drunk, had just enough to get tipsy, was all nice and happy after my crap day I'm not even delicate this morning, which I thought I might be!!

Uwila · 05/08/2006 11:28

Oh, don't worry logic. I'm more interested in intelligence than physical development. I think that is is so much more important in life.... But, then David Beckham isn't exactly unsuccessful.

aquablue · 07/08/2006 12:54

hello all, just checking this thread out...i've got a ds born may 05 too, so it's been intresting looking at your comments! he's still not walking - just one step here and there - just doesn;t want to although i know he is physically capable of it! thinking of trying for #2 before the year is out - glad to see some of you are already pregnant! seems a popular age gap to start now, all my friends who were pregnant around the same time as me (esp before me) are pregnant again.

ps: hello flannelette!

Uwila · 07/08/2006 14:29

Yippee... another non walker. Nice to meet you. Yeah, DS got hold of DD's pram (toy pram) yesterday and wlked until it fell over -- and he did too. I though you little cheek you can too walk. Just needs to balance his fat arse I guess.

Pregnant? What did I miss? Who is pregnant??? (thankfully not me!)

aquablue · 07/08/2006 15:04

Hi Uwila - So nice to meet another mum of a non-walker - we sure are getting more rare these days! Maybe it's a boy thing? Heard it can be hereditary - my dh and me were both late walkers at 18mths! The other day DS was playing happily in a playgroup, and suddenly realised I wasn't around, so had his arms straight in the air to pick him up. Went up to him about a metre away and he walked 2-3 steps to me without thinking! 8 out of 10 times when i hold his hands to walk, he'll do the full on bending of the back and release his knees!!!

Uwila · 07/08/2006 15:09

My boy is a lazy git. The key word is "lazy" not "boy".

aquablue · 07/08/2006 15:21

lazy, cautious etc...well they don't know what they're missing! ;)
mine is quite tall so it looks even funnier that he's not walking! anyway i'm not too worried about it, i mean how many adults have you seen that still crawl around?! ;)

Hi aquablue,
My dd isn't walking yet either although she did take 3 steps on Sunday. Her brother didn't walk until he was 18 months. I blame his father. I walked at 10 months [smug icon] Welcome to the group!

flannelettepyjamas · 07/08/2006 22:28

Hi aquablue [waving]
I would honestly try to enjoy the lack of walking - they move bldy quickly once they get going and you spend your whole time chasing them. So it's all over for coffee shops, nice lazy conversations in the park with friends, visiting people's houses who don't have a toddler (or a toddler-friendly house).
I'm hoping for a 'later' walker next time

Maddison · 08/08/2006 00:29

Hi aquablue and welcome to the thread

I totally agree with you FPJ's! My brother got married last Saturday and DH had to take DS2 out of church before the service had even begun!!! (He did fall asleep soon after though) DS1 was an early walker - totally independant at 9 months - BUT I cannot remember him being like DS2 is ie. I could leave him playing with something and go and do something without worrying what he was getting into!

Uwila - Booge, Shhh and FPJ's are all pregnant, iirc it won't be long until Booge is due. Think Shhh is due early next year and FPJ's has only recently found out (feel free to correct me any of you )

Logic, DS2 started off walking with 4 steps away from the tv . It wasn't long after that that he started to walk a lot!! Hows the job going btw? Hope dd is feeling better now.

Hope the housemove wasn't too stressful Myermay and that your boys weren't disturbed too much by it

aquablue · 08/08/2006 03:54

ok, i will make the most of his non-walking antics for now...

just noticed the very tip of his no. 9 and no. 10 teeth have come up. they are the teeth at the bottom - a gap away from his other 4 teeth! well finally they have come! it's been a long teething process! (and i know all those symptoms - crankiness, dribbling, lack of appetite etc - aren't supposed to be caused by teething. but what else can you blame it on? )

Tiggerish · 08/08/2006 08:40

Hi Aquablue - welcome to the thread. Where are you posting from in the early hours?

at 10 teeth! My dd has only got 3 and those have been a total nightmare.

She has had the one top tooth for a only couple of weeks and has chipped it already. Then this morning she fell over and cut something in her mouth - wouldn't let me look though. Has a thick lip now . This walking lark is no fun sometimes!

We're going to buy her first pair of shoes today
