Ooooo exciting news Too - hope M likes her pea puree!! Are you (or anyone else?) planning to try any BLW-style finger foods? I really don't think I can be bothered to puree anything...

Pomme it's so frustrating when you want to get something checked out but you're worried the doc will overreact :( No Brooking that your DH simply doesn't do it again.

Pet glad you enjoyed the olympics! My DH was absolutely gutted not to get any tickets the other day. Sounds like you had fun!

In other news, I forgot to say, little A is rolling over! Yay! I foolishly looked up milestones when she was 8 weeks old, so I feel like I've been waiting for this since then! I was expecting it around 12 weeks but in the end at the grand old Wink age of 15 weeks she's finally rolling on a regular* basis. Yippee!

PetWoman · 12/08/2012 14:37

The HV told us that we could start purees at 19 weeks (or whenever you feel ready, I guess) and do finger food from 6 months. I think I'll do a mixture. Might leave purees to DH to make, but I'm sure I can mash a banana with a fork!

Clever A for rolling, Scream !

DreamingOfPeace · 12/08/2012 16:12

DD could do rice crackers, banana and a couple of other finger food from 5 months.

Mashing s banana is a doddle, hence why the dts got some Hmm . DT1 had the spoon and did it himself!! Got a really cute pic. Will do finger foods from 5 months again like before I think. DD was grabbing toast at a baby group by then!!!

musicalmrs · 12/08/2012 17:00

Scream, I'll be doing BLW mainly! Can't be bothered with pureeing. (insert lazy mother emoticon here). I like the sound of mess and fun! Hurrah for A rolling lots! Iz does front to back lots - but not the other way yet. Managed to catch it on camera by accident a few weeks ago, which was lucky!

Pet, glad your Olympic extravaganza went well!

Too, I struggle to express much in a sitting. What are you using? I found an electric pump better than a manual one, but hand expressing trumps them both. I have 8oz in the freezer already (two x 4oz - each took a couple of sessions to make up a decent volume), just in case they're needed. I have a KIT in early September, so know I'll need to have expressed a reasonable amount by then..

Wants, what have you ordered? :) We have loads of clubcard vouchers at the moment - hadn't thought about nappies, but we do need to increase our stash of them!

Dream, I think you're incredibly brave to be going to a wedding on your own with your three DCs!

Sorry for radio silence. It was my birthday yesterday, so had a nice relaxing day with DH and Iz. Back to the grindstone today though - a couple of pieces due in in the next couple of weeks, so writing during naps! DH away, so looking forward to watching the closing ceremony with copious amounts of ice cream later. Should be working, but I have three friends in it, so it counts as moral support.. ;)

Iz is still suffering, but it definitely looks like we have teeth appearing soon. Found out DH was an early teether (6 before 6 months I think?) which helps explain it. She has moments when she's completely fine, others when she's grumpy, and some when she's inconsolable. Not looking forward to tomorrow - second set of jabs :( That plus teething, and DH away for work... could be interesting!

DreamingOfPeace · 12/08/2012 18:42

I'm not totally on my own. The wedding is really close to my mums house, and her and my sister are going but of doubtful helpfulness as dsis is a bridesmaid so busy and my mum will be going to have her hair done, going to the ceremony etc plus keeps banging on about not wanting baby sick on her dress (guaranteed with my two Hmm ) so she's not that keen to hold babies. I told her It's her grandmotherly duty so we'll see. However the bride, a childhood friend who's much closer to my sister, has sat me on a 'children' table, with no-one I've ever met, some of her cousins with children I think, with two fussy babies and a 1 year old who needs help with feeding, cutting up etc. Cheers...so i already know it'll be a disaster.

Glad you had a nice.birthday musical, does that make you the grand old age of 25?! Impressed you can work and rear a young child, I find I'm so baby-brained... 6 before 6 months is early, teething can be grim. DD still only has 12 and is also teething and both boys are fussier than usual, latching on terribly and biting me so ?? teeth here too. Tooth pain at least.

I can't remember when I last expressed, must get going again... I only ever got lots in the early hours before another feed was due, otherwise I get about 2oz per session.

Dh went out for the evening yesterday and got a bit drunk and has suffered so badly today with our three being hard work. I feel sorry for him. S was up 6, yes 6 times in the night and B twice. It's so grim this continuous sleep deprivation... Could they be having 4 month growth spurt/ sleep regression?? Though nothing to regress from for S :(

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 12/08/2012 20:58

Dream, that sounds a bit...um...difficult. Couldn't your mum or someone be on the same table as you to help out? It seems a bit rude to plonk you down all on your own. Or can you take a friend as your plus one instead of DH, so you have some help?

Envy of all this talk of rolling. I think M's forgotten how. Plus she has still never rolled back to front. Have decided to take all her overhead toys from her gym and put them beside her instead, so she has nothing above her to look at. She does kick her legs up at 90 degrees and arch her back, which I think might be precursors to rolling.

Happy Birthday for yesterday, Musical! Hope you had a lovely time. I was expressing using a Tommee Tippee hand pump, which is a bit shit, but really the problem is that I didn't start early enough. M took to the pea puree really well - DH said she sucked the spoon and seemed to get it really quickly. He had to get a bigger spoon to keep up with her in the end! I'm not going to formally wean her yet - holding out for the 6 month mark, but it certainly helped distract M while I was out. DH said she drank most of the 3 oz and then fell asleep, so when she woke up he tried her on the puree. When I came home she was asleep in his arms, so sweet! She woke up and tried to eat my shoulder, though, and then had a huge feed, so think she was starting to get pretty hungry.

Scream, will be doing BLW also - too lazy for purees, although might do some easy ones like mashed banana to teach her to use a spoon later on.

Off to watch the closing ceremony!

DreamingOfPeace · 12/08/2012 21:07

Maybe I won't go at all. I am so desperate for improvements here. I'm sick of crying babies. I'm sick of spending hours every evening getting little people to sleep. S still awake now- but they're not awake and ok, they're awake and fretful. I'm struggling badly with the nights, and then the days through tiredness and feel like I'm always on a knife edge (waiting for one or more to kick off). I am sad I'm missing out on the pleasurable bits because I'm too busy fire fighting with the other two if one baby is being sweet. I'm tired

Sorry for the me me me

Neither of mine can roll too. I taught DD how to roll one way at 8.5 months. She took her first steps at 10.5 months. I wouldn't worry, she has tummy time and opportunities to strengthen her muscles and practice. You've done your bit!

Biscuitsandtea · 12/08/2012 21:55

Too 90 degree legs and back arching is exactly what ds2 did for about a week before he rolled over. So I'm sure she's on her way Smile. Ds2 still hasn't rolled front to back or shown any signs, and as I say no signs of much progress in the sitting stakes. I did manage to prop him with his legs open and hands on the floor and let go for a micro second Hmm. They all get there though.

Too lazy to start weaning here Blush

Dream I am BROOKING for done improvements for you soon Thanks. I think you would be incredibly brave to take all three to the wedding, especially if you'd have so little family help. I would be inclined to either see if you could take a friend instead of your DH just to help, or alternatively I have to say I don't know if I'd go. I guess it depends how close a friend it is? I would think careful about whether it was just too much hassle. and if you were my daughter I'd bust my arse to help you

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 12/08/2012 22:00

Too I think DD finally got it because I stopped turning her onto her back when she fussed during tummy time. Instead I would roll her onto her side and she would kick her legs to get herself the rest of the way over. She eventually figured out that she could do the kicking from her position lying face down and it would still work!

Yay for M loving the puree! How exciting! I'll be teaching little A to use a spoon with foods that are meant to be eaten with a spoon (porridge, risotto, ice cream, etc). I have nooooooo intention of mashing foods like banana which can be so easily eaten without mashing.

Dream that does sound super difficult. You sound so tired poor thing I bought an iCandy travel bag a couple of days ago, from a lady who had ten month old b/g twins. She said that it had been really hard for the first 6 months, but now she's really enjoying them and especially the way they interact with each other. I know you know far more twin mummies than I've met, but I just wanted to pass on a positive story! This too shall pass!

Happy belated birthday to Musical!

Just won a bumbo on ebay Grin Although it went from £2.76 to £11.62 in the last 60 seconds! Angry My max was £12. Zero postage though, it's local, yay! Grin Going to buy a new table for it so I don't have to worry about DD eating off the table.

Next on the list is a travel cot (baby bjorn - painfully expensive) and a tripp trapp with all the trimmings (even more expensive - argh!). Just going to suck it up, the truth is in a couple of months I won't even remember what the tripp trapp cost. Besides I actually got a bonus from work at the end of last month, which was very unexpected, so I can imagine the high chair is coming out of that!

Biscuitsandtea · 12/08/2012 22:08

A Baby Bjorn travel cot? Is it super clever? I didn't know they did one? What does it do that a regular one doesn't? I kind of want one even though I don't know the answer to this question.....

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 12/08/2012 22:30

Grin at Biscuits wanting the BB travel cot without knowing what it is! I get like that about so many baby things you ladies mention on here!

The BB travel cot light looks super nifty. There's a great demo video by BB showing how it takes about 20 seconds to set it up! Have a look . It's also waaaaaay lighter than most travel cots. Two qualities which are essential for a hopelessly weak klutz like me! It's painfully expensive though compared to the many cheapie cot options.

Of course now I have my heart set on ttc in April next year everything I buy seems half the price... Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 12/08/2012 22:36

Easy to set up and light would be fab in a travel cot. Ours seriously weighs 5,000 tonnes. Fact.

And I carried it across Birmingham when I bought it and nearly gave myself a hernia. Fact.

I don't know the answer to this but I assumed they were heavy to stop them tipping over (eg when you've got a standy uppy baby in it)? The heavy bit in ours is the base / 'mattress' (Hmm) bit. Does the BB one deal with that?

I'm off to look at the link.....

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 12/08/2012 22:41

According to the info I've read the BB mattress is supposed to be weighty enough to stabilise the cot. Also, the way the cot is narrower at the top than the bottom makes it much sturdier than a traditional straight-sides cuboid travel cot.

Haven't seen one in the flesh yet though. Planning to pop to John Lewis at some point this week.

Biscuitsandtea · 12/08/2012 22:46

Yes I see what you mean about the design - looks much sturdier with its pokey out legs. ££££££ though Shock and I've already checked but none second hand in eBay

Wants3 · 12/08/2012 22:50

musical we did the club card exchange and bought a pack of totsbots bamboozles for night time.they do a good selection on Tesco Direct.
Not overly impressed by the closing ceremony so far! Hmm
d has been really chomping on his fists recently and crying as if it hurts if he bites too hard:( could it be teeth at 12 weeks?) he is also a dribble monster as well as a happy chucker so my washing pile never goes down!

NinjaChipmunk · 13/08/2012 00:03

On the subject of travel cots we have the little life arc which is mega light and easy to put up. Ds loved it as its like a tent and he lives dens and stuff.
Happy birthday musical!
Hugs going out to dream. You are awesome. Don't forget that.
Nighty night all

musicalmrs · 13/08/2012 10:23

Thanks for the happy birthdays :)

Wants, it could be! Iz is only a week ahead of D isn't she? She's been chewing on fists, muslins, my fingers and anything she could reach for the last few weeks. Everyone kept telling me it was teething, but I was in denial until a week or so ago. Since then, I've heard lots of stories about early teething- and the one from my MIL of course, which explained it! May have a look at those nappies, thanks :)

Dream, yes, 25! You say you're impressed I'm 'working' - it's not really work, although it is. I've loved writing music since I was little, so I'm lucky it's something I'm passionate about as well as my career. I spend the day playing with Iz, and often writing bits in my head or out loud while playing and singing with her, or playing at the piano with her. I then sit down and write them out properly and do the harder bits when she's asleep!

I'd agree with Biscuits, if it's too stressful I wouldn't do it :( How annoying that they've put you on a table with kids rather than on one with family who could help you out?

Iz wailed during her jabs, but slept on the way home and has been back to her smiley self since :) Though the teething signs are beginning to ramp up so we might have more wailing yet :( I think she rolled over early because of my constant insistence on tummy time (several times a day- got a bit obsessed there!).

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 13/08/2012 10:34

Morning all! I flaked out and had to go to bed by 10.30, thus missing the Spice Girls. I was so tired and achy after an afternoon shopping. My hips, back and bum ached. Hmm I can go for long walks in my hiking boots on rough ground with no ill-effects, but apparently walking in flat unsupportive shoes on pavement makes me ache. I wonder if I need some re-aligning in some mysterious way after the SPD. Also, the closing ceremony got really really boring! 303 boxes to represent 303 events, ffs. Symbolism, like, yeah?

Dream, you are doing a really hard job - so much harder than anyone else. You have the smallest age gap between your DC, and then you have two babies instead of one. The rest of us can only imagine how hard it must be! If I were you I wouldn't go to the wedding unless you either take a friend along to help or your mum steps up properly. It's not practical to imagine you can cope otherwise. At my wedding my littlest sister was only 12 days old, and as Dad was on the top table, I put my stepmother on the same table as her parents so they could help with the kids - and the other two were 5 and 3, so didn't need so much help as a 23 mo. It's good hostessing to plan around little kids and ensure the parents have help!

Jaggy, are we bothering to meet up? If your DH isn't keen then it would be a bit weird. PM me if you want to - I won't be offended if you don't!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 13/08/2012 10:38

Observing M this morning lying on a blanket, she only did the legs 90 degrees and back arching thing because she wanted to see the TV last night! Telly addict baby...will put her next to the TV and see what she does.

pommedechocolat · 13/08/2012 11:39

A rolled today! At the grand old age of 24 weeks. After learning to sit pretty well. Odd child :)

jaggythistle · 13/08/2012 11:48

we're on our way too! DH looked at me like Hmm when i suggested it so i guess he thinks it's odd. if it was up to me I'd say yay, but he's not especially impressed with my Mumsnet obsession...:(

nipping to shops on way, will pm you if he suddenly seems keen! i forgot to mention it over the weekend, so it may have seemed a bit random when i said "oh too from my thread stays right beside butterfly world" Grin

R is super hungry and wakey uppy atm, must be 4 month growth spurt i guess. need to get 6-9 month vests and sleepsuits down, he's a bit huge.

will try to catch up later properly...

jaggythistle · 13/08/2012 11:52

i think R might be getting too fat to move. he loves you holding his hands so he can sit then stand up, but is more into arm and leg flapping than rolling still. i think DS1 learned by twisting round to see things, but DS2 is a bit neglected in comparison and doesn't get much practice time!

Wants3 · 13/08/2012 12:03

I took D to the clinic this morning. He threw up while I was undressing him and then weed everywhere (including my sandalled feet!) but he has put on a bit more weight:)
I did mention to hv that I was feeling abit lonely and she recommended a few groups that run through the holidays. We are going to try sing and sign and baby movers in the next few weeks and hopefully I will get to know a few mums.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 13/08/2012 12:03

Little A has immediately gone from front-to-back rolling to now back-to-front rolling in her cot! Shock She doesn't seem to actually want to sleep on her front, she's really just rolling over so she can lie next to me [melts into a mushy besotted heap] Unfortunately this means that I can now go to sleep with her safe and sound on her back in her own cot (fully approved baby mattress and bedding) and wake up half an hour later to find my baby co-sleeping right next to me on her tummy on a memory foam mattress with super hot duvet! Shock I might need to rig up some kind of cloth barrier between her cot and my bed to prevent this, although that does mean missing out on some of the benefits of the cot, like easy transfers and us both sleeping face-to-face which reassures her (without me having to do anything) if she is disturbed by a loud noise. She's such a cutie pie to be trying to snuggle up with me though

Too [wow] at having your 12 day old half sis at your wedding! How fun! I think of my sis as really young (she's 15 - she was 12 at my wedding) but your half sis is teeny! So cute!

I also have a telly addict baby. If I'm holding her whilst watching tv (hoping she's going to drop off to sleep) and I'm in a position where she can't see the screen, she fidgets and fusses until I turn sideways to the tv - so that she can conveniently watch it with her head resting on my chest Hmm She does then settle down and go to sleep, so I haven't been self-disciplined enough to stop watching tv in the evenings when I'm trying to get her to sleep Blush

Wants3 · 13/08/2012 14:39

D is suddenly into grabbing, he was a bit meh before but today he is actually holding the toys on his gym and pulling them towards him. He is also twisting round to try and reach the toys I have put next to him:)

My mum bought us the Tomy travel cot for ds1. I used it for ds2 aswell and then for my mindees x2. SIL then had it for her 3dcs. I have now got it back for D and it is still going strong!

I have ceilings going up in the extension today so it is beginning to look like rooms now instead of a building site! I can start to picture Ds cot in there:) It is currently in pieces behind our bed.
